Fan Fiction ❯ Worth the Risk ❯ NOT just another day ( Chapter 2 )
The sun shone down on lake Hylia, glittering with the ripples running along the surface. It was just about midday now and the weather was absolutely perfect for swimming.
Small fish could be seen darting around beneath the surface while the larger and slower fish could sometimes be made out swimming around the bottom
The lights were on in the laboratory beside the lake and the occasional strange sound could be heard from inside the oddly shaped house as the slightly senile old man puttered about inside.
The princess Zelda had been right. A nice swim was exactly what they had all needed.
Link floated lazily along the surface of the large lake. Eyes closed and thoroughly tired with the races and water fights that always ensued when they all went swimming together.
"Aaaah-oof!" link said as his head bumped against a large rock in the middle of the lake. "Oh Link! If you keep falling asleep while you're swimming I wont be held responsible for your safety." Zelda smiled down at Link from atop of the rock
She had changed out of her normal royal garb and opted for a pair of light leggings and a sleeveless shirt. Her long golden hair was tied back with a leather thong and after getting wet and then laying on land for a while, she had acquired a lovely layer of grass and dirt on her backside.
"I wasn't sleeping, I was resting my eyes. And there's a stick in your hair, your highness" Link smirked as Zelda picked the offending object out of her hair and chucked it at Link, who ducked under the water and out of the line of fire.
"Scoot over!" He laughed, heaving himself up on the rock beside Zelda. Link was wearing his trademark green leggings only. He'd discarded his tunic somewhere on the side of the lake, along with his boots, hat, and sword.
Sheik too had discarded all his clothing on the side of the lake and wore just his blue leggings. He was sitting farther up on the rock with his eyes shut, feigning relaxation while in truth he was tight as a drawn bowstring. Controlling his urges while seeing Link wet and shirtless was getting harder and harder.
All the accidental brushes and touches were bad enough, but when Link had tripped and fallen on him he had very nearly had a heart attack. *And as soon as this is over I'm going to kill her royal highness for tripping him in the first place* Sheik sighed. He doubted that anyone besides him and Link knew that the princess was so mischievous.
Sheik looked down at Link, watching the water drip off of his flaxen hair and run down his attractively muscled chest. His eyes traveled farther down Links body. His leggings were clinging sinfully to his legs like a second skin showing off everything. Sheik felt his blood rushing southward and inwardly groaned. *Damn those horrible sexy clingy pants! *
He turned quickly and slid into the water on the side of the rock opposite from Link and Zelda.
Zelda's senses picked up what was happening and grinned evilly. "Link. Why don't you go and join Sheik in swimming again? We're going to have to head back soon."
Link nodded, "Good idea" and jumped into the water swimming after Sheiks retreating form.
Zelda looked up at the sky. *Actually, we should probably be heading back now. We still need to dry off and get ready for the banquet tonight* "Hey! Wait for me Link! We should probably be heading ba…."
She froze and stared off in the direction of the castle. *Oh goddesses. What is that? * Hundreds of voices filled her head and she clutched it, gasping in pain. *Argh! What's going on!? All that fear! * She dove off the rock and began swimming as fast as she could toward the castle. *Oh please let nothing be wrong, please, please, please*
"LINK!! SHEIK!! Get dressed quickly! We have to go back! Hurry! Something's so wrong I can feel it please! Hurry!" The two had already reached where their belongings lay and with out a second thought now threw on their clothes as fast as they could. Zelda had a very strong Gift and they didn't doubt her for a second. If she said something was wrong in that tone of voice then something was terribly wrong.
As soon as she got close enough to the shore, they both reached out and pulled her onto the land. She stumbled slightly but didn't stop and set off at breakneck speed towards the castle with Link and Sheik in close pursuit.
"Zelda! What's wrong? What's happening?" Link gasped, running alongside her. Sheik pulled alongside her too and was watching her face closely.
"Link! Oh goddesses, Link! Its..Its…"
Links face set into a look of sadness and anger.
"Its Ganondorf." They looked toward the castle and saw dark clouds forming overhead at an alarming rate. "Damn!"
"Come on! Hurry! We have to protect the Hylians!" Zelda ran even faster. They still weren't even close to the castle yet, but every step that they took towards it seemed to make them colder and colder.
*Please goddesses, give wings to my feet, help me get there before its too late, protect my people*
"What's that!?!" Link shouted over the rising winds. Through the dirt that was being blown up by the winds, they could make out large shapes heading straight towards them.
They all stopped running and Link pulled out the master sword.
"ZELDA!!!"
"ZELDA IS THAT YOU!?! ANSWER ME!!!"
Zelda frowned in concentration and gasped as she recognized the owner of the voice.
"TALON!?!?"
The large shapes were close enough to be recognized for what they really were now. Five horses, two of which had riders on them already. Zelda rushed over to her brother.
"Oh goddesses Talon! Where is everyone? Is it really Ganondorf? Is everyone okay? What a-"
"There's no time for that now, sister, we have to get going. Now." He softened his voice a little, "I'm sorry." He then looked at Sheik and Link who had stood and listened quietly with concern etched clearly on their faces. Talon sighed.
"You two. Mount up, now." he ordered, pulling forward the reigns to two of the horses he had brought.
The other rider who had remained silent up until now came forward. She pulled back the hood of her riding cloak to reveal white hair pulled back in a short, tight ponytail and a strong face. Her eyes were a strange shade of red, not dissimilar from Sheiks. She had full lips and a thin scar running along the length of her neck.
"Now is not a time for explanations. We will speak later if we can, but the most urgent matter at hand is to get out of here. I will take Zelda with me to somewhere safe. You two will go with Talon. He knows what to do. Now hurry, before someone realizes that we are missing." She reached out and put a hand on both of their shoulders.
"Good luck, she'kras, the guardian be with you both" She gave their shoulders a small squeeze and then headed back over to her mount. Zelda had silently mounted up and was waiting for her, different emotions warring on her face.
Impa wheeled her mount around, waiting for Zelda to follow suit. She glanced at her friends and gave them a sad smile before spurring her mare and fading away from sight, no longer visible through the dirt-laden winds.
