Link helped Malon settle into Epona's saddle as he clutched onto the reins. “I'll lead the way.”

The three of them exited Romani Ranch and ended up in a huge grassy terrain, a bit like Hyrule Field.

“This,” Link said, “is Termina Field. There are lots of sights to behold, but we don't have much time, so-”

“That's perfectly alright. I have other things to worry about,” Malon assured him.

They all remained silent for the rest of the trip. They came across a building in the center of the field and Link urged Epona inside. They ended up in South Clock Town. Link had never let Epona go through Clock Town before, but now was as good a time as any.

Leading Epona through town, they ended up in front of a door, which led to some sort of basement. The horse began to spook, but Malon patted her neck to calm her down. She was carefully led down a set of small stairs and more ramps until they ended up at a vault-like door.

“This is it. Goodbye, Epona.” Link threw his arms around his horse's neck. “Goodbye, Malon. Good luck at Lon Lon Ranch,” He said.

“We'll be best friends forever. I promise that one day, somehow, somewhere, we will meet again.” Zelda smiled at Malon before letting tears visibly slide down her cheeks. “I'm…I'm sorry. I tend to be emotional at times like these…”

“Don't worry about it. I'm probably more emotional than you right now. I have to find a way to get Ivo out of my ranch. But I'm sure I can do it.”

“I know you can do it!” Link cheered, opening the vault door. “Now go out there and save your ranch!”

“Thank you, both of you…for everything.” And before Malon could show her tear-streaked face to either of them, she commanded Epona to gallop her fastest through the dark, dreary Lost Woods. She had never seen this part of it before.

Sun just barely streaked through the tall treetops, and the only noise was the sound of Epona's thundering hooves and the occasional chirping of birds. But little did Malon know that it would take days to traverse through the Lost Woods to end up at Hyrule again.

Malon let Epona come to a halt. She climbed down from her back and tied the reins to a nearby branch.

“We'll stay here for tonight, okay?” she propped herself up against a tree and fell asleep almost instantly. That night, she had a dream. A nightmare, in fact…

It started out with Malon finally arriving back in Hyrule. She immediately headed for Lon Lon Ranch, but got stopped by some guards; a whole army of guards, in fact. They took her to prison, where she once again, found Sheik.

She was ecstatic about finding him once more, but when he slept atop her chest, his face morphed into Ivo's, and she screamed for the guards to come.

Two guards appeared and they were normal at first…but soon enough, they transformed into the twins, Nego and Suno.

Now completely frightened, Malon tossed and turned in her sleep, sweating and whimpering.

Next, Ivo began stripping her of her clothes once more, as the twins joined in. She found herself waking up, hollering for help.

“AHHHHHHHHH!” Malon cried. “Oh…it was just a nightmare. Sorry if I scared you, Epona.” She went back to sleep and didn't wake up until around noon the next morning.

“Oh, shit! It must be the afternoon already! Come on! Let's get cracking!” she mounted her horse and started off by letting her walk to warm up.

After a few minutes, she sped her up to a trot. As it grew darker, Malon had her canter for a few minutes before deciding that Epona needed food and water to continue any further.

She dismounted and led her by the reins to a nearby stream while plucking a few odd fruits off of trees. Epona thirstily slurped up the water as Malon picked apart the foreign fruit.

“Need help, lady?” a voice echoed.

“Who goes there?!”

“No need to be so tense.” A small child that looked a bit like a scarecrow landed gracefully on the ground from a tree above.

“Who are you?!”

“I'm Skull Kid. Want any help?”

“No thank you…Skull Kid. But do you know if I'm close to Hyrule?”

The Skull Kid doubled over in laughter.

“Yeah, thanks for the help.” Malon grumbled sarcastically.

“Hey, what's so funny, boss?” a dark purple fairy fluttered from out of nowhere, followed by a yellow fairy.

“Tael, look! There's a Hylian in here! And Link's horse!” the yellow fairy exclaimed

“Wow, you're right, Tatl!” the dark purple fairy replied. “Think she stole it from him?”

“Wait…it's Romani! I thought she died from a bandit assault!”

“She must be a ghost!” Tael said, frightened.

“My name is Malon, and I'm from Hyrule. Epona was originally my horse, but Link kept her for a while. I didn't steal her, okay? Just please tell me how much longer to Hyrule.”

“Oh, lady, you have a long way to go.” Tatl giggled.

“It takes about three days to go straight from Termina to Hyrule.” Tael said.

“Thanks.” Malon turned her attention back to Epona and fed her the fruit after she drank. After she and her horse were fed and had water, Malon was on her way again.

“Wait!” Tatl flew after her. “You've been going straight this whole time, right?”

Malon nodded.

“Just keep going straight. You'll end up in Hyrule in another two days, since by the looks of it you've only been traveling for one day. I know a tired traveler when I see one. By day three, you'll be so worn out you'll nearly drop dead.”

Later on, she found out just how right Tatl was. By the third day, Malon and Epona nearly collapsed from exhaustion. Luckily, they had finally arrived at their destination.
