Epilogue: Life Goes On
Four weeks later, Erin moaned on her bed, tossing under the sheets. She was the last one to actually wake up. Everyone else had the day after the event.
There she was, lying in bed, bandaged all over, but mainly where she had been hit by that spell directly. Right in the stomach.
Dr. Kadowaki looked up from her work, seeing as it was a slow day. Everyone was trying to enjoy the last of their nice weather, as it would start getting colder in a week or two. Seifer had been visiting everyday to check up on her, but it was always the same.
"Miss Siri?" Dr. Kadowaki asked, getting up and walking over to Erin's side. "Erin?"
"Umm," Erin managed to mumble, blinking her eyes a few times.
Everything was a blur for a minute or two, but it all came clear eventually. She tried to sit up, but failed miserably.
"Erin, don't bother trying. You are going to be bedridden probably for the rest of your pregnancy."
The last words she wanted to hear. Even though she didn't know how long she'd been out, she knew that the rest of this time in bed would be dreadful.
"I hope you know, according to Seifer, you took a direct blow..."
"Seifer?" Erin whispered, her mouth dry.
"Yes. He has been in here everyday to see you, and he's due here any moment now."
Erin smiled to herself as she closed her eyes, trying to relax. Placing her hand on her stomach, she could tell she was gaining weight rapidly. It also extremely hurt to the touch, so she removed her hand. "How long have I been out?"
"Four weeks now."
Erin moaned. That meant she was two months along. Which meant seven months of staying in the same bed. Seven months of inactivity.
"Dr. Kadowaki? May I come in?"
"Yes, you may. I will leave then." Dr. Kadowaki smiled, and then left.
The voice belonged to the one person she was so happy to see: Seifer Almasy.
"Erin," he whispered.
