Chapter 4:

"Go on, inside." Seifer persuaded, as Squall lingered in the doorway. Hesitantly the brunette boy stepped in, Seifer following
him. Squall stopped and let his eyes travel around the huge hall. Right in front of him were big stairs, covered with a beige
carpet, leading all the way up to the third floor. On the left was the way into a modern-looking kitchen, and on the right lay the
entrance of a huge living room. The walls were all covered with expensive-looking paintings, and there hung a huge chandelier
up from the ceiling.

'This is like from a...a damn movie or something...I mean who really lives in a palace like this...' Squall asked himself, but his
thoughts were interrupted by a loud bark. The brunette blinked his eyes as he saw a black, angrily barking doberman, running
towards them from upstairs. Squall's eyes went wide as the animal began to growl at him and revealed its sharp teeth, looking as
menacing as it possibly could. The boy gasped and took a few steps back, and bumped into Seifer who was standing behind
him, removing his shoes.

"Hey...watch it Squall..."

"I--I..." Squall mumbled and leaned against the tall blonde, gripping Seifer's sleeve with both hands. The dog was nearing them
and Squall kept leaning closer, panic written all over his face. Seifer quickly realised the younger boy was really afraid of the
animal.

"Hey, its bark is worse than bite..." he reassured and came forth from behind Squall's back.

"Get lost you stupid dog. Go on, scram!" Seifer commanded, narrowing his eyes at the growling dog. The doberman showed its
obedience and fear towards the tall blonde by letting out a small whine, and then scuttled away. Seifer turned around to face
Squall. The boy looked somewhat upset.

"You're afraid of dogs?"

".... Y-yeah.." Squall admitted, the look on his face telling he was ashamed of the way he just behaved. 'I can't believe I grabbed
his sleeve...!'

"Well sorry...I should have told you about Jaws. When it comes to security, my dad thinks the dog is more reliable than all the
alarm systems in the world...But there's no reason to be afraid of Jaws; it obeys me and won't harm you unless I order it to do
so..."

Squall lift his face and used his hand to reveal a long scar, now partly covered by his long hair. The mark began from his
forehead and ran across the bridge of his nose. Seifer leaned closer and eyed the scar. He looked down and met the brunette's
grey eyes.

"How did you get that?"

"A big dog attacked me when I was little...I've been terrified of them ever since...I-I just can't help it." Squall explained. [1]

"So that's why you almost jumped into my arms when Jaws came downstairs." Seifer chuckled, but went serious as he noticed
the frown on Squall's face. "Hey I was only joking!"

Squall lift his gaze and noticed there was almost an identical scar on Seifer's forehead. The blonde realised Squall was watching
him and touched the long mark on his face.

"Oh yeah...I have one too. Funny...they're almost identical..." he spoke and traced the scar with his fingers. "I can't even
remember how I got mine...But it makes me look damn hot, doesn't it Squall? Seifer smirked and met the younger boy's staring
eyes.

"W-what?" The brunette's face grew hot and he knew he was blushing.

Seifer noted this and blinked his eyes, realising what he'd just said. 'Where the hell did that come from!?' he cursed in his mind.
The atmosphere in the room was suddenly tense again. Both were quiet. Seifer glanced around the room, blinking his eyes
nervously. 'Ok, don't just stand there! .....Think of something to say! This time something wise....................Great, this has got to
be the longest awkward silence ever.'

"I-I'm gonna eat something." Seifer finally spoke the first thing that came to his mind. Squall looked up with a frown on his
face. He watched as the blonde made his way into the near by kitchen.

'The hell? Does he think I have all night!?...I don't wanna spend any more time here than what's necessary...' Squall followed
Seifer into the kitchen. The blonde was rummaging through the fridge, and by the looks of it, he wasn't even searching for
anything particular.

"We were supposed to study..." Squall noted. Seifer just snorted and pulled out a can of juice.

"Oh come on, relax! We have all night...or do *you* have some other plans? A date maybe?" The blonde asked with a mocking
voice and poured himself a glass of juice.

Squall narrowed his eyes in anger. 'I knew it! He's insulting me already now!' He took a step forward, balling his fists. Seifer
brought the glass up to his lips and emptied it with one pull.

"Don't take me for granted Seifer! I don't have to waste my Friday night here with you, listening to your insults!" Squall
suddenly yelled, his behaviour surprising not only Seifer, but Squall himself too. The brunette blinked his eyes and lowered his
gaze. Seifer just put the glass down on the table and stared at the boy, arching his brows in surprise. They were both silent for
some time. Squall kept his eyes down on the floor, unable to make himself look up.

"You're right...sorry. My room is upstairs." Seifer finally said and led them out of the kitchen. Squall followed him up the stairs
and kept glancing around, as if waiting for the dog to re-appear. Seifer noticed this and gave the boy an amused smirk.

"Don't worry, he's probably downstairs, chewing on some of Laura's expensive shoes." The blonde reassured, and Squall
reasoned the woman he mentioned was his stepmother.

Seifer's room was located all the way up in the third floor. "Up here it's peaceful. I don't have to listen to my dad's business calls
or Laura's nagging.." the blonde explained and pushed the door open. The lighting in the room was dim, the only source of light
being a big terrarium in the back of the room. Squall stepped in and let his eyes travel around the spacious room. Seifer turned
on the small spotlights up on the ceiling and the room was filled with yellowish light.

"Feel free to look around Squall. I have to find all the books first." Seifer urged and walked over to his desk. The brunette just
gave him a nod and stuck his hands into the pockets of the loose jeans he wore. He walked slowly around the room.

One side was all made of windows. Squall walked over to inspect the view. He could see the whole 'Hilltop Valley' and some of
the suburbs where Squall himself lived. The lights coming from the settlement, gave the night sky a yellowish glow, preventing
Squall from seeing any stars. He turned away from the big windows and looked around.

On one side of the room stood a big, well lighted glass cabinet, filled with trophies, medals and diplomas. Squall stood before
the cabinet, counting Seifer's achievements.

'I guess this is why he needs my help with the studies...he's a bit too devoted to his sports...'

The blonde watched him from the other side of the room, a cocky smirk spreading onto his lips. The smirk however, was
quickly wiped away when Squall suddenly noticed the big glass terrarium, and hurried over to see what kind of a creature reside
there. Seifer watched the boy kneel down on the floor, his nose almost stuck on the glass. The blonde threw the pile of books
onto his large bed, and joined Squall, kneeling beside him.

"That's George. He's a -"

"A Gecko, I know! ... A Skunk gecko to be exact." Squall interrupted, sounding enthusiastic. He knocked on the glass with his
fingernail and tried to get the lizard's attention.

"You know, it could breed if you'd just give him a partner; they don't mind the captivity." Squall lectured with a slight smile on
his face, something Seifer had probably never seen before. The older boy was amused by Squall's sudden behaviour.

"Well I think George is well past his viril years.." Seifer chuckled and glanced in Squall's direction. The brunette boy let out
something resembling a laughter, but quickly became serious. He blinked his eyes, the sound of his laughter strange, even to
himself. He noticed Seifer was watching him with a surprised look on his face, this causing the brunette to turn red. Squall
stood up and took a few steps back, blinking his eyes nervously. Seifer was slightly dumbfounded, not understanding the
sudden change in the younger boy's behaviour. Once again the awkward tension began to fill the room.

Squall eyed Seifer from under his brows, his arms twined around his torso. "D-don't look at me like that!" he suddenly spoke
with a shaky voice. Seifer stood up and gave the boy a confused look.

"Like what Squall?" he asked, not understanding what had went into the brunette. Squall looked uneasy as he kept shifting his
weight from one leg to another.

"Like that! ....You guys are always looking at me like that...and I hate it!..."

Seifer neared Squall, but stopped as he noticed the boy was withdrawing. 'What the hell is he talking about?? ...Does he mean
Mike and the others? ...And I didn't even look at him in any particular way...'

"Don't look at me!" Squall shouted, sounding agitated, something that was uncharacteristic for him. Seifer just arched his brows
and lay his gaze down on the floor.

"Ok, ok! I won't look at you Squall..." he said in an effort to make the brunette calm down. Squall just kept glancing at him
from under the long strands of hair that hung in front of his eyes.

'Man...what the hell is this guy's problem!? ... Does this have something to do with us always tormenting him for his looks?'
Seifer was confused. He walked over to his bed and sat down. To his surprise Squall joined him soon after. Hesitantly Seifer
raised his face and met the brunette's eyes.

"Sorry Seifer...I-I don't know what went into me." Squall mumbled and sat down on the other side of the wide bed.

"I guess you've heard a couple of too many insults about your looks....sorry Squall." Seifer turned around on the bed. "But like I
told you....I don't think there's nothing wrong with the way you look." He added. Squall turned to face the blonde, his suspicion
showing from his narrowed eyes.

"I really mean it Squall. I ...I actually like the way you look." Seifer's green eyes widened as he realised what he'd just said.
Now it was his turn to try and hide the blushing cheeks. "I--I mean ....umm....well...Maybe we should just study already?" he
stammered and bit his lower lip as he noticed the slightly amused look on Squall's face. The brunette just gave him a nod and
grabbed the pile of books.

**AN: I wish I didn't have to work. That way I could give you a new chapter every day ^^ But unfortunately my holiday doesn't
start just yet. This chapter was written in a hurry, and I hardly had time to think of the plot. But still, I hope you liked the
chapter and will let me know what you thought of it.

[1] So, Squall got his scar from a doggie's paw or something ^^ It was the only thing I could come up with when I wrote the
chapter!
