Chapter III Near Capture

Tseng had come to Nibelheim to assess the situation himself and to make sure the general did not kill the young Turk himself. Not only did Tseng come to Nibelheim to check the situation, he also brought a leather briefcase that contained every bit of information including a taped interview Tseng had with Hojo before he left the Shinra building. Spotting the general was not hard but getting to him was something of a mission for almost every town’s person had gathered around the silver haired swordsman in a medium circle while giving enough space for the person in front of the general. Tseng saw the woman and was astonished at the beauty of the woman as she stood rooted to the spot. Her impossibly blonde hair that reached mid back, lithe figure, and stern position for some reason called to Tseng. The Turk ignored the urge to call out to the woman to talk to her but instead made his way to the general in which he handed the briefcase to.

“Is that more disaster you bring upon these people general or is it something actually useful to us?” Sephiroth growled at the woman as she led the way back inside the meeting house where Bertha had died but was now buried with honor in the town’s cemetery.

“Tseng, did you get everything?” The Turk nodded while setting his phone on silent.

“Yes, I also interviewed Hojo because he found out what I was doing. He had some information that was not recorded in our database so I taped the session. Also, it seems that there is some bad blood between this Vincent Valentine and Genesis.”

“The Deepground General?”

“Yup, one reason is in the report but the rest Hojo told me on the tape so it should prove useful whenever we need it.” Sephiroth smirked as he laid the briefcase on a table they had pulled out of a dust filled closet not too long ago. Sephiroth took out one manila folder and began to flip through it as Tseng began to brief him. “It so happens that this Vincent Valentine was head of the Turk division some twenty odd years ago during Shinra’s occupation at the mansion. Now during that time, Vincent had shown interest in a woman named Lucrecia Crescent who was Doctor Hojo and Gast’s assistant. Vincent started his occupation in the mansion three weeks after an incident with Genesis in the Shinra compound concerning territory issues.” Sephiroth perked up at this.

“Territory issues?”

“Yes, it seems that Genesis was treading on what was Vincent’s but Shinra did not understand the situation at the time until they sent Vincent to Nibelheim and that is when they realized two things. One being that Genesis was not the only vampire Shinra had and two being that they had no control over Vincent what so ever. Apparently your father was the only one within Shinra that really ever calmed and controlled Vincent in reason why they sent him here. Vincent did not meet Lucrecia until she got back from visiting her home town some four days later and that’s when the trouble started. Shinra had sent Genesis to check on Vincent’s progress but instead Genesis fell for Lucrecia as well.”

“That lead to Vincent and Genesis becoming more than enemies after that and the dispute over territory and claim continued.” Tseng nodded his head as he shifter through some of the paperwork and handed Sephiroth a photo of Lucrecia.

“Upon further research I discovered that not only was Lucrecia unknowingly stuck in the middle of a battle for her love, but she was pregnant and neither Vincent nor Genesis was the fathers.” Sephiroth stared at the picture and felt like he was looking into a mirror sort of. The woman oddly resembled him except for her long brunette hair that was tied up. “Do you understand what I mean Sephiroth?”

“Yes…continue…”

“Right…well since Genesis figured that it was probably Hojo’s child he did not feel so broken up about it but Vincent did. He had loved Lucrecia with whatever heart he had left from his years of living as an immortal. Instead of leaving the situation alone like Genesis had done, Vincent confronted your father about Lucrecia’s pregnancy and got himself shot because of it. Hojo had prepared a gun with silver bullets that had been blessed by the town’s pastor and since Vincent was not that strong at the time, the hit was strong enough to put him into a type of coma.”

“Tseng, that does not explain why he’s awake now nor does it explain why he took Cloud and Reno.”

“Yes it does. Let me give you a slight hint Seph, have you noticed any similarities between you and Lucrecia? You two look almost exactly alike! I would not be surprised if Vincent came after you and besides if the worst comes to worst we always have Genesis for backup. He has already agreed to come out here when I give the call.”

“Tseng, if Vincent wanted me he could have had me last night. I do not understand why reno and Cloud are involved and you have yet to answer my question on how his is conscious at this point.”

“Because vampires can heal themselves. I’m guessing that it took Vincent about eight years to heal and he probably stayed in a deep sleep as his way of being depressed about Lucrecia. As for Reno and Cloud, Hojo has told me that even though you look like Lucrecia herself you do not have her personality nor her aura. Seph you have part of her aura and personality, at least the fighting half that she kept secret. Reno is the fun loving, wild, uncontrollable, and happy-go lucky type of person like Lucrecia was and he has that part of her aura. Now this is where some of you come in,” Tseng finally addressed the town’s people who had been listening intently to the conversation between the general and the Turk. “Who is Cloud and what is he like?”

“Cloud is my only son sir,” The blonde haired woman arose from sitting on the floor and looked Tseng in the eyes which made him uneasy. “I am Jasmyn Strife, as for my son Cloud, he is basically innocent and untouched by any persons hands. He is peaceful but also curious about the world around him and will do anything to figure it out. He is incredibly intelligent but also has a large heart where there is nothing that he does not cherish. Does that answer your question?” Tseng nodded thoughtfully as he smiled when the last piece fit just as perfectly as Genesis had told him it would.

“Cloud is the innocence and loving side of Lucrecia therefore he has her white aura which probably had awoken Vincent from his slumber. Since Reno was the same way Vincent took him as well which that leaves you and then…oh shit…” Sephiroth looked at Tseng waiting for him to continue but the Turk did not say another word. Sephiroth looked to Jasmyn who shrugged her shoulders as she watched the Turk closely.

“Tseng, what’s the matter? Tseng?”

“Once he has you and turns you Seph, he gains the full power that has been sleeping inside him for over twenty years…I think we’ll be needing Genesis’ help after all, huh?” Sephiroth nodded slowly still looking over the folder. He put it down next to the briefcase before picking up another folder that was labeled ‘Medical’.

“His medical reports should have tipped Shinra off that he was not human. There is no pulse record, heart rate record, nothing that indicates that he was ever alive when he served under Shinra. His health record is just as empty as everything else other than his blood count. How strange, he barely even has white blood cells in his system. There’s information here on when they took a sample of his blood to examine for any diseases and found that his blood clots but then again it does no damage at all.” Tseng sighed heavily before taking the folder away from Sephiroth so he could talk to the general with his full attention.

“Sephiroth, do you realize that your own life is at risk here? At any moment that monster could come and get you but you don’t seem to care.”

“Young man, I do not think you understand the difference between someone that does not care about their life and someone that is only using the current distractions to keep themselves calm and to keep up a strong front.” Kurt limped over to Sephiroth, looking him straight in the eye before giving a huff and limped away to sit by a window.

“I’ll contact Genesis later but right now we need to find a safe place to store you just in case…”

“Tseng, I believe I can take care of myself thank you and as far as safety goes I think I can handle it. Another thing, stop worrying because it doesn’t suit you.” Tseng stood silent and slightly shocked at the usually silent general’s small outburst. Before he could do anything to stop Sephiroth, the swordsman had walked out of the meeting house and into the streets of Nibelheim.

Sephiroth wondered the streets until the sun began to set behind the mountains, casting an eerie darkness over the town. The air had gotten so much colder than it should and Seph could feel his pulse quicken. As he began to shiver, Sephiroth picked up his walking pace and started to the meeting house where Tseng was probably waiting. There was a loud creak that alerted the general and nearly scared him out of his wits. It was not necessarily a good thing to have a love obsessed vampire after you because you remind him of his lost lover. Sephiroth calmed himself down and continued to walk to his destination when he felt a hand run down his back to rest just above his butt. Jumping, Sephiroth moved to grab Masamune but realized that the long sword was no longer attached to his side.

“Come now Sephiroth, so you really think that I would allow you to continue caring this sword while you are under my control? I think not, but it is a beautiful sword though. It is a shame that its master is now a slave to a vampire.” Sephiroth stared at the vampire before him. Long black hair hose bangs were held out of glowing red eyes by a piece of red cloth. Black leather shirt and pants with black boots and a black glove over one hand since the other was covered with a golden claw. A long red cloak covered half of the creatures face but fell into rags towards the bottom edges of the cloak. Sephiroth began to back away from the vampire as he took slow step toward Sephiroth.

“What makes you think I’ll submit to you? Do you really believe that I will go with you so easily or are you still stuck on my mother that you are willing enough to destroy me just for a memory?” At this point Sephiroth was backed up against a wall with Vincent nearly pressed up against him.

“Do not think for a second that that is the reason for why I am after you. Someone so beautiful and strong could not experience love to its fullest extent. Why don’t you just let me…” As Vincent leaned down to kiss Sephiroth, he felt a burning pain penetrate the middle of his back and miss his heart by a thread. The vampire stepped away from the general to see who had the guts to try and kill him and what he saw did not set right with him. “What the hell are you doing here?”

“Well, I figured that since Tseng told me about what’s going on…I jus thought that I would stop by and see how things are going. It seems that I came at a right time for we would have lost our best fighter.” Genesis licked his sword that had pierced Vincent’s back but missed his heart. “I really do need to work on my aim and targeting more, I missed your heart.”

“Fuck off, this is not your territory now get out!”

“Last time I checked, that was not your mate now let him go.” Genesis’ voice got dangerously low as he readied his sword to kill Vincent, but the other vampire just laughed.

“Then I guess I should mark him, should I not?” Vincent grabbed Sephiroth before the Genesis could react and bit into the mid-section of Sephiroth’s neck and instead of sucking the blood, Vincent let the wound bleed, allowing Sephiroth to fall to the floor to bleed to death. “You know what happens now don’t you? Well, I guess I’ll be seeing you soon Genesis.” Vincent disappeared into the shadow of a building and only his laughter, which echoed and slowly faded away, was heard in the silence of the street as Genesis desperately tried to save the dying swordsman.
