"Hmmm. that was delicious," Rinoa stated content with the current setting. Her and Squall had decided to forgo the concession stand in favor of an all out dinner so they had made their way to the Balamb Hotel. Having arrived at their destination, after managing to squeeze through the excited crowd, they had managed to find a seat in the hotel restraunt, it seemed as if everyone was too excited to eat. They had barely sat down when their waiter appeared. With his long brown hair Rinoa had almost mistaken him for Irvine but closer inspection showed that his eyes where blue, not the violet shade that Rinoa had seen only on the original.
"May I take your order?" the waiter asked the customary question. His voice came out low and friendly not elegant and smooth but that was o.k. with Rinoa. She was happy with that, she had always perferred it when people were open instead of formal.
"Yeah, I want a hamburger with curly fries," Squall answered placing his order.
He looked over when he heared Rinoa's laugh. "What?"
Only Squall would order such a simple meal at a place like this but then again Squall's taste always had been simple Rinoa thought but she wasn't turned off by that trait. Quite the opposite in fact, she loved how he could cope with just the barest necessities. Now if only he'd stopped demanding perfection of himself.
"I guess I'll take the same but make my french fries instead of curly."
"O.k. and what would you like to drink?" the waiter asked, taking the time to write down their orders.
"Coke," the both answered in unison.
Nodding his head, the waiter left leaving the two of them alone. At first they had made small talk, mostly about how their day had been but halfway through the interesting
conversation Squall had fallen quite. Even though that had been more than normal for the old Squall, he hadn't done that it since he had finally stopped keeping everything inside.
"Squall, is something wrong?" Rinoa asked. This wasn't the same silence which he had fallen into a couple of hours before. That had been a reflective silence but this one felt different, wrong.
He had promised himself that he would never lie to her, relationships had to have trust but he didn't want to ruin her mood, they hadn't got to spend much time together lately and he wasn't going to spoil it over a stupid little feeling. Admittly he had felt this feeling, this very bad feeling, ever since they had sat down to dinner.
"Yeah, everything's fine." And with that it was forgotten.
Now they sat together, the small talk finally dying down as Squall prepared to pay the bill. After counting out the exact amout (he hated change) he glanced up at Rinoa amd once again had to stop for a moment. He had always found her attractive, her long brown hair and expressive brown eyes matching perfectly, but lately it seemed as if she was becoming moreso. Now the little twinkle in her eyes nearly drew him in and the way her smile transformed her whole face was captivating to watch.
Feeling Squall's eyes on her, Rinoa glanced up and was greeted by a smile. He had began to smile a lot more these days but still not enough. She knew that he had years worth of feelings he wanted to express and admired that he had been working hard to let others in.
"Ready?" Squall asked laying down the amount of the bill as well as a tip.
Nodding her head and giving him another smile, Rinoa stood up followed shortly by Squall. In no mood to hurry, the two slowly made their way out the door. Stepping outside was like stepping into a carnival, the loud music and bright colors instantly returning but they were lost in their own little world, or at least they were until Rinoa convinced Squall to ride one of the rides which had been set up near the beach. They were standing in line when Rinoa suddenly groaned.
"What? Something wrong?"
"Yeah, I left my purse at the hotel."
"Well let's go get it," Squall suggested.
"No, we'll loosed out place. I know you stay here and I'll go get it. Be back in a few," Rinoa suggested, already in the process of leaving.
So Squall waited. And waited. Finally worry got the best of him and he decided to get check on her. Since the crowd had thickened it took nearly twice as long for Squall to reach the hotel as it had the first time.
When he arrived he went straight to the front desk to inquire about Rinoa's whereabouts.
"Uh, yeah she was here a couple of minutes ago but sorry you missed your chance, she already left with some other dudes," the clerk replied at Squall's prompting.
"What," Squall asked all the while keeping his voice calm.
"I'm sorry but you're holding up customers."
Without another word Squall turned around and walked away. He knew he had to search for Rinoa but he had no idea where she could be or who had taken her but he did know that he would not rest till he could once again hold Rinoa, safe, in his arms.
