Transcending Time

Many people dream of traveling through time.

Going into the future...

or visiting the past.

But that is one thing we shouldn't do.

Because... will our doing so...

Change time for better... or worse?

...~*~...

The night sky seemed to go on forever, the stars shone with such beauty and brilliance, the night could not be more perfect. Rial Fenox lay gazing up at the night sky, with admiration. The cool air blew across the field, with nothing in the way to obstruct it.

Rial lay on a tall hill just on the outskirts of the town where he lived, he had fiery read hair and dazzling green eyes, and he was quite tall. Rial loved to come to this hillside and look at the stars at night; it was the only place in town where the light from the town didn't disturb the view.

Someone coming up behind him soon interrupted Rial's stargazing.

"Hey Rial what are you doing?" ask the person behind him.

"What dose it look like I'm doing?" Rial answered. "It should be obvious to you Evan."

Evan just gave a small chuckle and sat down next to Rial, and gazed at the stars. He had dark hair, and midnight eyes, and he had a fair completion.

"Hey Rial, you ever get tired of looking at the stars all the time?" Evan asked.

"No not really." Rial replied. "Looking at the stars helps me unwind."

"Well it's not like they move allot." Even commented. "Then again, nothing in this town does."

"So true my friend, so true." Rial chuckled.

Evan sat up and turned himself slightly so he was facing Rial. As he did so he caught sight of something out of the corner of his eye.

"Hey Rial, did you just see that?" Evan asked.

"See what?" Rial asked.

"I just saw something running across the field." Evan said pointing out into the field.

"Your must be imagining it, I don't see...."

Rial stopped mid sentence when he saw a dark figure dashing across the field. He couldn't see a face, only the back, but from what he could see, it was a human.

Rial jumped to his feet and chased after the mysterious person running across the field.

"Hey Rial wait!" Evan shouted after him. "You don't know if he's dangerous or not!"

Rial didn't listen; he just jumped up and ran after the dark stranger. He didn't exactly know why he was chasing after this guy, he just felt he had to catch him, find out why he was running toward the old ruins.

Even sighed, this was against his better judgement, but he had to keep Rial from getting himself into trouble. Evan noticed the person in the cloak was heading toward the old ruins at the edge of town. They were across the field, but no one ever went there, because law forbade it. Rumor had it, that the ruins where once used for dark purposes, and the people made it impossible for anyone to get near them again in fear of having the past repeat it's self.

Rial finally caught up with the stranger; he had to admit this person was fast.

"Who are you, and why are you coming to these ruins?" Rial demanded. "Don't you know you can be arrested from even looking at them?"

Evan came up behind Rial, huffing and wheezing from chasing Rial across the field.

"What do you want with these ruins?" Evan asked.

"What makes you think I want these ruins?" the stranger asked.

The voice that asked the question was deep and masculine. The hooded man turned to Rial and Evan, and lowered his hood. The Man had long white hair that went just a bit past his shoulders, which he had tied in a half ponytail. He had semi-tanned skin, and gold eyes. From what Rial could tell, he looked about 6 feet tall maybe a bit shorter.

"I'm going to ask you this again, what do you want?" Rial growled.

"My purpose for being here is my own." He replied. "But you will learn it soon enough, as soon as I've casted the proper spell."

Evan's eyes went wide at this statement.

"You're a magic user!" he exclaimed.

"Very perceptive." The man responded.

The man started walking toward the ruins, but Rial and Evan moved to get in front of him.

"Your not getting anywhere near those ruins, it's forbidden." Rial stated.

"Do you think I care what your law says?" The man asked.

"You should if you don't want to be arrested." Evan piped in.

The man just gave a small smirk, and turned to the ruins. He raised his well-toned arms out towards the ruins and began chanting some spell Rial and Evan couldn't understand. The two quickly tried to stop the man, but were stopped by a barrier he had put up.

As the man spoke, a sudden gust of wind cam from nowhere, and surrounded the three men in an eire green light. Clouds soon formed above the ruins, and swirled around above them and casted lighting strikes every so often. Rial and Evan looked on in amazement and shock, never had they seen such thing ever happen before their very eyes. They had both heard stories about magic users, but magic in this time and era was scarce, it was rare to see magic users to openly use their powers.

"What the heck, what kind of spell is this?" Evan shouted.

"A time spell." The man answered.

"AWHAT!?" Rial exclaimed.

The man began walking toward the vortex he had created, but just as he was about the step in, Rial forced himself through the barrier that the man had up, and ran toward him at top speed. Rial jumped and collided with the man and they both fell into the vortex.

"You idiot!" The man shouted before they both fell in.

"Rial!" Evan shouted, as he watched his best friend vanish in front of him.

Evan tried to fallow soot, but the vortex closed before he could.

"A magic user here?" Evan said in a state of shock. "There hasn't been a magic user seen here in 50 years, not since...."

...~*~...

Rial didn't know what was going on, he was falling through a tunnel or wormhole of some kind, to who knows where.

Just as he was getting used to being tossed around, Rial was tossed out of the wormhole and flat on his rear.

"Ugh!" Rial said as he was tossed out.

He stood up and dusted himself off, then heaved a sigh and turned around to talk to the stranger, but when he did so, he found no one behind him. Rial looked around, but didn't see the stranger, but he couldn't help but notice his surroundings. He stood in a square in the middle of a huge city.

"Uh.... Toto...I don't think we're in Kansas anymore."

Rial looked around, taking in all of his surroundings. He could defiantly tell he was nowhere near his hometown, or even his planet for that matter. From what he could tell, he was in a much more advanced culture. The buildings looked like they went through the clouds, and he saw quite a few objects zipping past over head.

"Hey, are you lost?" Some said from behind him.

Rial turned around to face a girl that at almost eye level to him. She had midnight black hair, and purple eyes.

"Uh, yeah actually I am." Rial said sheepishly. "I was wondering if you could tell me where I am?"

The girl smiled at him, and extended her hand to him.

"My name is Tsuyami, and you are?" she asked.

"I'm Rial." he said shaking her hand. "Well know that we know each other, could you tell me where I am?"

"Yes I can." Tsuyami replied. "You're in the square of Stilwaita"

When he heard this, he was quite puzzled. "Stilwaita? I've never heard of a city by that before."

"Something wrong?" Tsuyami asked?

"Uh... kinda, I've never heard of a city by that name before." Rial replied. "Tell me, have you herd of a town called Olaf?"

"Olaf?" Tsuyami asked confused. "There was a town called that once, but that was 300 years ago."

Rial couldn't believe what he'd just heard. 300 years........He was 300 years in the future? This couldn't be happening!

"Tsuyami, can you tell me where I can find a man with white hair, wearing a black cloak?" Rial asked.

Tsuyami was just about to answer, when another portal opened up behind Rial, and pulled him in.

...~*~...

The sun shown high above in the sky, Ridding along a country road, a raven-haired girl drove a wagon to town. Suddenly a hole opened in the sky, and young man with red hair fell from the sky.

"Ahhhhhhhh!" he screamed.

Rial landed with a thud in the wagon. "Argh...why can't those landings be softer?" He groaned.

The girl jumped down from her seat, and ran to the back of the wagon.

"Hey, you ok?" she asked.

Rial shook his head, and looked at the girl. She wasn't very tall, in fact she bearly stood chest high to the wagon. She has medium length black hair, that was all pulled into a pigtail. She had blue eyes, and was dressed mostly in white and purple.

"I just fell from the sky, what do you think?" he said sarcastically.

The girl sighed and shook her head. "Where are you from?" she asked.

"Uh...Well, I'm from a town called Olaf." He replied. "You have heard about it would you?"

The girl's expression quickly changed from confusion to suprise. "Yo you're from Olaf?" she stuttered.

Rial looked at her like she was nuts. "Yes, is there something wrong?

"YES THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG!" She exclaimed! "That settlement is on the edge of some old ruins!"

"Yeah so?"

"So, the ruins posses great magic, doesn't that concern you people?" The girl heaved a heavy sigh. "I give up."

Rial scratched his head. "How come the last girl didn't make this much fuss?" he said.

"Probably because she isn't a magic user." The girl replied.

"Hey, I just noticed this, but why are you wearing such funny cloths?" he asked.

"These are traditional white mage cloths thank you." She said. "I'm the one who should be asking you that question."

Rial looked at her suprised. "You're a white Mage?" he asked.

"Yes I am, the only one in town actually." She answered.

"Where am I?" he asked.

Rial knew this question was going to wear out it's welcome very quickly on him. But since he had just gone through another portal and the fact that this girl was wearing cloths he thought looked a bit out dated. It was safe to say he was not home, or even in Stilwaita.

"Your in Caral." She replied. "Well just outside of it anyway, I was just on my way there."

Rial extended his hand to the girl. "My name is Rial Fenox." He stated.

The girl smiled and extended her own hand. "My name is Catirin Royal, pleased to meet you Rial."

The two then started walking down the road, Rial filling Catirin in on all that had lead up to their meeting.
