Immortality

By. DemonGirl-Setsuna

DemonGirl-Setsuna: Hi there! Setsuna here!

*The chibifide wolf-demon; Ritalin-writer, sleeps curled up on a tree-branch, while un-noticed by anyone in the yard, Vincent snuck through the shadows towards his target. His realistic-looking squirt-gun aimed at the ground in true professionalism of knowledge in handling guns; not like seen in movies and on T.V.*

Vincent (Chibi): *Whispering* Time for some pay back… *Taking aim at the trouble-maker and pulls the trigger, sending a spray of water flying and it strikes the wolf-demon on the butt*

Ritalin (Chibi): Whaaa…! Cold…! *Falls out of the tree onto her back*

Vincent: *Doubled-over in laughter*

Setsuna: *Coming out of the house with one eye closed, having been in the process of putting her contacts in* What is going on?

Ritalin: *Tears building in her eyes, as a lump formed on the back of her head* V…Vin…Vincent shot me with a squirt-gun loaded with ice-cold water while I was sleeping… *Sniffles* And, I fell from the tree I had been sleeping in…

Setsuna: *Looks at Vincent in surprise, seeing him doubled-over still laughing with his arms crossed over his abdomen, tears of mirth in his eyes, and the dripping squirt-gun in his hand* Vincent!

Vincent: *Stops laughing to stare up innocently at Setsuna*

Setsuna: *Unfazed* Nice try, but I'm immune to the cuteness… *Points to the house* Inside now, and no desert for you tonight mister… *Snatches the squirt-gun from his hand as he passed* I'd expect this type of behavior from Ritalin, not you! *Squirts Vincent in the butt causing him the scream out from the coldness* Do you like it?

Vincent: N…no…

Setsuna: Then don't do it to others… Now get inside and into your room… *Turns to the sobbing wolf-girl* Ritalin, why don't you head inside to change your clothes and you can have the biggest slice of the double-chocolate brownies.

Ritalin: Yeah! *Vanishes inside the house*

Setsuna: Now I need to finish putting my contacts in and set up the trap to catch `Ed'… And I've actually figured out what `Ed' is… `Ed' is a black-winged angel. *Sighs* I still haven't figured out the gender of the Muse of Mischief yet…

Chapter 19

Requiem of Memories and Nightmares: Part 1

-------------------------------------

25 Years Later…

Vincent's blood-red eyes snap open at the sound of things being thrown around in the library down the hall from the crypt, staring into the blackness surrounding him as the foot-steps of whoever was throwing the books approached the room. He suddenly bolts up-right, forgetting the lid to the coffin was on, hitting his head so hard that he saw a flash of multi-colors and stars, “Oww…God damn it…”, he curses, bringing his right hand to his forehead and feels a lump starting to form. He pushes the lid of the coffin off with his gauntleted left hand, allowing light to filter into the darkness inside the coffin and the lid lands onto the ground with a slight thud. As he sat up, a curtain of shoulder length hair falls in front of his face, completely covering the left side of his face.

“How long have I slept for…?”, he mutters, pulling his bangs back out of his face as he looks around the crypt. The dust and cob-webs on everything in the room had nearly tripled.

Suddenly, a clump of his bangs escapes from his hand and falls into his face again, sighing in frustration, he grabs the bottom-edge of his crimson cloak and tears a strip of cloth off, then wraps it around his forehead to keep his hair from his face.

“Now what the fuck woke me up…?”, he spat, walking over to the locked door and presses his ear to the heavy-wooden door, listening carefully.

“I'm coming to get you… Mother…”, he heard the voice of a male say as the footsteps got closer, “They don't deserve the planet… After what they've done to you…”

(A/N: You can probably guess who this is!)

“What…?”, Vincent silently gasps, pressing his ear harder against the door.

“They won't be able to stop the son of the Cetra; Jenova…”, the man continued to ramble on as he walked past.

“Jenova…”, he whispers, having not heard that name in years, not since before he died.

“The humans don't deserve the planet… and as I'm it's rightful heir…”, was the last thing he heard before the footsteps vanished at the stairs leading into the mansion.

“I'm alone again…”, he mutters, actually sounding disappointed at the thought, before suddenly wavering and holding his hand to his forehead as he was bombarded with bouts of dizziness, “Uh… not again…”, he groans, collapsing to his knees.

He manages to drag himself back to the coffin and pulls himself inside, his eye-lids began to droop as he tugs the lid back onto the coffin. The lightheadedness and the sudden exhaustion quickly consumes him as he slipped back into the realm of sleep and his nightmares.

-------------------------

Vincent walks into Lucrecia's laboratory in Shinra Manor, “Lucrecia? Hello? Anybody here?”, he calls out as he looks around, he spots a computer terminal displaying the profile of Grimoire Valentine; Vincent's father, bio on the Shinra data-base, “Father?”, he mutters.

“Who's...!?”, Lucrecia's voice questions as she walks into the room, only to pause in mid-sentence when she saw who it was.

”Lucrecia. This file...”, he says, stepping towards her, confusion in his voice.

“It's none of your business”, she sternly replies, turning away from him.

“But it is. Why didn't you tell me you worked with my father?”, he asks, walking up behind her, reaching for her arm, only to have her smack it away as she turned to face him again.

“Stop it! Just stop it!”, she shouts.

Vincent could only slightly nod in understanding, his face displaying the hurt-look he was feeling, “Lucrecia...”, he whispers, sounding hurt as well.

Nibelheim Town-Square…

Vincent holds Lucercia's hands in his own in a comforting-matter, as she is on the verge of sobbing.

“I... It was all my fault”, she sobs, as Vincent to continues to hold her hands, looking a little sad from the details he had heard about his father's death from Lucrecia, yet still a look of that he forgave her for not telling him sooner.
“I…I didn't mean for… your father to die”, she apologizes, as Vincent opens his mouth to say some words of reassurance to her, but she interrupts him, “I couldn't...”, she suddenly pulls her hands from his gently grip, “I'm so sorry…!”, she cries, as she ran away and Vincent took a step to follow after her with on hand reaching out for her, but stopped realizing that she needed some time alone to calm down.

But I never blamed her. All I wanted was to see her smiling face. But after that day, the light left her heart, was the thoughts Vincent had on what had happened as he saw Lucrecia standing at the Nibelheim town-gate facing Hojo a few days later.

“So you've come to your senses and chosen me”, Hojo says, holding his arms open to her.

“Yes, doctor”, she nods, before rushing into his arms and embraces the crazed doctor.

“However, if she is happy, then I don't mind…”, Vincent whispers to himself, with his head hung low, looking completely hurt by the sight and like he was on the verge of tears.
`That memory again…', Vincent's voice echoes through the inky-darkness of his realm of sleep, `I need something…'

Clank…Clank…

“….to wake me from the nightmare”, Vincent mutters out-loud, before he shoves the lid to the coffin off, causing it to land onto the stone-floor with a loud-bang, as he sat up, “Who is it!?”, he demands, fighting to resist blinking in confusion at the crowd of 6 people, an animal with red-fur with what appeared to be flame on the tip of it's tail, and a humanoid-shaped black and white cat wearing a red-cape and gold-crown on it's head riding on a giant stuffed-moogle, “ …Never seen you before. You must leave”.

“You were having a nightmare”, a young man with spiky-blonde hair and blue eyes with tell-tale hints of mako-exposure asks.

“Aren't you glad you woke up?”, the humanoid-cat questions in a Scottish-accent .

“Hmph…a nightmare? My long sleep has given me time to atone”, Vincent mutters, mostly to himself than the group in front of him.

“What are you saying?”, the blonde pesters.

“I have nothing to say to strangers. Get out. This mansion is the beginning of your nightmare”, Vincent snaps.

“…You can say that again”, the young man says.

“Hmph… what do you know?”

“Like you said, this mansion is the beginning of a nightmare. No, it's not a dream, its for real. Sephiroth has lost his mind. He found the secrets hidden in this mansion…”

“Sephiroth!?”, he gasps.

“You know Sephiroth?”, both Vincent and the young man exclaims.

Vincent back-flips out of the coffin and lands on top of the lid, his boots so much as not making a sound, “You start first”.

The blonde young man starts explaining what the crazed son of Hojo had done five years ago and what caused it, “…..that's how it was”.

“So Sephiroth found out five years ago that he was created? And about the Jenova Project?”, Vincent comments.

“He was missing but has just recently reappeared. He has taken many lives and is seeking the Promised Land”, the man states, “Now it's your turn”.

“Sorry….I cannot speak”, he bitterly replies.

“Hey! You lyin' white-faced!”, the tall burly black man with a gun-arm yells.

“Hey, that's not right…”, the cat protested.

“Good! I'm not in the mood to hear long stories. Let's get the hell outta here!”, a middle-aged man with buzz-cut blonde hair, blue eyes with goggles on his head and a cigarette in his mouth spat.

“What... you're serious?”, the red animal with the flame-tipped tail gasps.

“Hmm… I'm disappointed”, a young woman with butt-length black hair tied at the end with a hair-tie, brown eyes, and a large bust-line scoffs.

“Oh, that's okay. It was probably depressing anyway”, a teenage girl with chin-length black hair and brown eyes, wearing what appeared to be a giant oven-mitt on her left arm sighs in relief.

“Hearing your stories has added upon me yet another sin. More nightmares shall come to me now, more than I previously had. Now please leave”, Vincent demands, climbing back into the coffin and secures the lid back into place.

Clank…Clank…

Vincent pushes the lid off again in annoyance, “You're still here”, he says.

“At least tell us you name”, the blonde-haired young man requests.

“I was with the Shinra Manufacturing Department in Administrative Research, otherwise known as the Turks….Vincent”.

“The Turks!?”, the man shouts.

“Formerly of the Turks. I have no affiliation with Shinra now….And you?”

“Cloud, formerly of Soldier”.

“You were also with Shinra…? Then do you know of Lucrecia?”

“Who?”

“….Lucrecia. The woman who gave birth to Sephiroth”.

“…gave birth…? Wasn't Jenova Sephiroth's mother?”

“That isn't completely wrong, but just in theory. He was born from a beautiful lady. That lady was Lucrecia. She was an assistant to Professor Gast of the Jenova Project. Beautiful…Lucrecia…”

“…A human experiment.”

“There was no way to cancel the experiment. I couldn't stop her. That was my sin. I let the one I loved, the one I respected most, face the worst”, the dark-haired tormented man states, regret filling his voice.

“So your punishment was to sleep?”, a young woman with long light brown hair tied up in a high-ponytail and green eyes asks, “That's…kinda weird”.

“That why you started sleepin' in a box? Gimme a break!”, the dark-skinned man yells.

“You think that's punishing yourself? You're just sleeping”, the cat exclaims.

“You shouldn't sleep just because of that. Sleep?”, the middle-aged man states.

“So you slept as punishment? Isn't that strange? That thinking...”, the flamed-tailed animal comments.

“So the punishment was sleep? That's weird”, the big-busted woman adds.

“Ok. Boring story no.1”, the teenaged girl groans.

“Let me sleep”, Vincent simply says, wanting to be left alone to repent for his sins as he closes the lid again and could hear the group who had disturbed him leave. Closing his eyes to fall back to sleep, his eyes snap open when something dawns on him, he hastily pushes the coffin-lid off and leaps out of the coffin and bolts through the door, “Wait! If I go with you will I meet Hojo?”

“Dunno. But we're after him and Sephiroth. So, I guess sooner or later…”, Cloud replies.

“Lucrecia…”, he whispers, “All right. I've decided to go with you”, he states to the group.

“Sure is a quick change of heart. Huh?”, the green-eyed woman says.

“W…what?”, the gun-armed man stutters.

“What?!”, the doll-riding cat gasps.

“Hey, hold on sleepy. You're pretty damn pushy!”, the middle-aged man shouts.

“What? You're coming with us?”, the brown-eyed woman exclaims.

“Huh? Oh great, just what I needed…”, the teen moans and groans.

“Being a former Turk, I may be of help to you…”, Vincent reasons.

“All right, then”, Cloud agrees, nodding and offers his hand to the former Turk, “Welcome to the group”

Vincent shakes Cloud's hand without a word or expression on his face.

One Month Later…
In a Cave South-East of Nibelheim…

Vincent follows Cloud and the others into a cave full of mako-crystals and a huge crystal sat in the center of a spring of water that reflected the crystal perfectly like a mirror.

“Who's there…?”, a female voice softly questions, the words echoing off the cave-walls.

“That voice? It can't be…”, Vincent gasps, looking around in surprise, “Lucrecia...?

“Vincent...?”, the female scientist utters, looking up from the spot she was kneeling at by the giant-crystal.

Her brown hair was still as glossy and beautiful as he remembered it, but her once vibrant brown-eyes held a dull-look to them, like she had lost all hope, “Lucrecia!!”, he says, starting to walk towards her in disbelief.

“Stay back!!”, she demands, stopping Vincent's advance towards her.

“Lucrecia... You're alive...”, he smiles, his voice remaining calm, but his eyes looked like he was about to burst into tears.

“I wanted to disappear... I couldn't be with anyone... I wanted to die... But the Jenova inside me wouldn't let me die...”, Lucrecia sadly explains, “Lately, I dream a lot of Sephiroth... My dear, dear child. Ever since he was born I never got to hold him, even once... Not even once. You can't call me his mother... That... is my sin...”

Vincent starts to walk towards her again, “Back!! Stay back!!”, she shouts with tears in her eyes, stopping his approach again, “Vincent... Won't you please tell me?”

“...What?”, he gently asks, relieved that she was still alive.

“Is Sephiroth still alive? I heard he died five years ago”, she says, “But I see him in my dreams so often... And, I know that physically, like myself, he can't die so easily”, she continues, tears streaming from her brown-eyes, “Please, Vincent tell me...”, she tearfully asks.

Cloud starts to step forward to tell her the truth that Sephiroth was still alive and that they were going after him, but Vincent puts his arm out, stopping Cloud and shakes his head as to say, `don't tell her and that he'll handle it'.

“Lucrecia...”, Vincent began, hiding his eyes from view behind his bangs, “Sephiroth is dead...”, he replies, lying for the first time to the very woman he loved, `She deserves to have her mind rest at ease, and not know the horrors her son has committed', he thinks, as he follows Cloud's group from the cave, looking over his shoulder at the broken woman.

As he steps into the sun-light outside the cave, `She's been all alone for so long…', that thought entered his mind, then he quickly turns around and runs back into the cavern to comfort his love, “Lucrecia!”, he calls out, walking through the water over to where she had been kneeling, but there was no trace of her. Instead he finds a gun in the spot he had seen her in, crouching down to pick it up, it was a beautifully elaborate black-gun with the words `Death Penalty' written on the side in cursive, “Lucrecia…”, he whispers, hugging the weapon to his chest.
