Chapter 5: To Find You

Garnet slowly rowed her boat out of the tunnel. She looked up at the velvet blue sky, with shining stars spreading through it. The cool air softly blew on her face. She took a deep breath of fresh air in and sighed. She kept rowing down the quiet river. After a while, she noticed a bridge in the distance. She vaguely remembered this bridge from a few years before.

If my estimations are correct, there should be that ChocoboForesteast of this bridge. Garnet thought in her head. She was pretty sure Zidane wasn't on this continent, so she decided she would find Qu's Marsh and go through the passage there to the Lost Continent. The Iifa Tree is located there, even if Zidane's not there still, maybe someone in Conde Petie or the BlackMageVillagehas heard of him, or seen him… She never gave up hope. I will find you Zidane, you're my only hope.

She got out and pulled the boat to shore. Her feet made soft splashes in the water. Once the boat was tied around a post on the bridge, she scanned the dark fields. Soon, she could see a dark area in the distance. She assumed it was the Chocobo Forest, so she headed towards it.

Once Garnet arrived at her destination, she realized she was correct. There was a small dirt path that led into the dark forest. The trees on both sides were high enough to touch the sky. The path looked a bit spooky, but she knew what awaited the other side. She slowly entered the forest. She could hear birds chirping on the trees. The sound eased her. Soon she appeared in a huge opening. She recognised the familiar area. There were torches lit up connected to the trees surrounding the area. She saw a chocobo sleeping soundly, and a few babies sleeping around it. There was another chocobo sleeping a few yards away.

"Hey lady! You're in the way…" A small voice behind her said. Garnet turned around and stared at the little boy standing behind her. He had an eager look on his face. "Can ya please move???" Garnet nodded her head and got out of the way. The boy ran past her and sat on a chair. There was a stump in front of the chair that seemed like a table. The boy had some food and was eating away frantically.

"Uh….can I please-"

"Nope. This is my food." The boy interrupted. Garnet looked at him with wide eyes. It was the same boy from two years ago, but he didn't change….at all. He looked exactly the same, she didn't even think he aged.

"That's not what I was going to ask!" She said. "I was wondering if I could rent a chocobo…" The little boy suddenly looked at her straight in the eyes. His freckled face looking stubborn. Garnet pulled back her hood, in hope that the boy might remember her. His eyes widened slightly when he saw her beautiful face.

"I've seen you before…" The boy stated. "You were with a monkey tail guy…what was it, a month ago?"

"A month ago?!" Garnet repeated surprised. "Not quite, try two years ago…"

"Oh, it's been that long?" The boy asked. Garnet nodded her head. "Well, time goes by fast for me… So you wanna rent a chocobo, eh?" Garnet nodded her head tiredly. "Well they need their sleep! And by the looks of it, you could use some sleep too." Garnet shook her head.

"Nah, I'm fine, trust me…" Garnet replied, trying to sound assuring.

"No. You can sleep here tonight. I don't mind some company." The boy said, smiling.

"Ok, thank you very much." Garnet said, a bit relieved. She was kind of tired and wouldn't mind a bit of sleep. She lay on a bed made out of hay and soon fell fast asleep.

The next morning, Garnet awoke to the quirking of chocobos. For a second, she forgot where she was, but soon remembered. She got up and rubbed her eyes. The boy greeted her with a big smile.

"Good morning." She greeted.

"So you still wanna rent a chocobo?" The boy asked. Garnet nodded her head. "10 gil please." Garnet searched her cloak pockets and soon found half a handful of coins and gave it to the boy. He looked at her gratefully and brought over a chocobo. "This one's not as tame as it could be, but it will get you places." Garnet looked at him and mounted the chocobo.

"Thank you greatly." Garnet replied. "..For everything." She then rode off into the forest and back to the fields.

It was a sunny day out, and a lot easier to see then the night time. She headed towards the bridge and soon saw the boat that was tied to the bridge. The chocobo galloped across the bridge and off to the other side of it. Garnet searched around for Qu's Marsh.
