Final Fantasy - All Series Fan Fiction ❯ Project: Dark Seed ❯ Prologue ( Prologue )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Disclaimer: *looks around and sees the "Hammer of Squaresoft" Oh nooo. o_O" Better I say it before it hits me (again...). Final Fantasy isn't mine!!! (They're so mean, they hit poor authors, like me with the hammer if I wouldn't say that it doesn't belong to me.) -__-"

Author's note: Well, why I wrote this? It's an explanation for the OCC in almost every FF 8 fanfic. I´m going to write. A Prequel for *almost* every story. Yup, I mean Rico and Modo and their friendship with Zell. I thought it unlikely that Zell only had the orphanage gang as friends, most of whom where spread out across continents if Zell had only the orphanage gang as friends. I'm sure he had more and hence I created his best friends. ^_^ I hope you like them as much as I do. I'll explain small details also, like How Zell got his tattoo, why Rico wears his glasses nonstop, and many other things. This only makes sense to people who actually read my stories.

Warning: Ok, ok damn force of habit, but a little bit yaoi. I can't help it. I'm a real yaoi girl. =^^=

Prologue

//Ten years after the first Sorceress War//

A short, bald man, in military uniform, was walking towards the Sorceress Memorial. The place where the, now ruling, President of Esthar had defeated the great sorceress Adel. He was already been expected there. A young woman, with the same uniform, stood in front of the entrance.

"Capt'n Jack Willis?" She asked politely.

The man only nodded.

"The tribunal is waiting for you. Please, follow me."

He did as he was told and followed her inside. There were two doors, one in front of them and one to the left. She led him to the left door, opened it and let him in. He saw three men, sitting around a round table like King Arthur and his knights, and he only recognized one of them. Who wouldn't notice the legendary Doctor Odine? But who were the others? All three of them were dressed in long robes. Typical Esthar style. Doctor Odine sat in the middle, with one man to his left and the other to the right.

Captain Jack Willis stepped in front of the table and saluted in the military way. The man on the right side stood up. He was dressed all in white, like Doctor Odine and had short brown hair. Probably his assistant.

"Ah, Capt'n Jack. Punctual as always. Please have a seat."

The Captain obeyed and the man opened a file, while Captain Jack made himself comfortable.

"From the information we could gather), you're a very reliable person and a first class soldier. We were looking for someone like you, for a special task. Doctor Odine will tell you the details."

The man gave a nod to the Doctor.

"As you know, the president, Laguna Loire, defeated the sorceress Adel. But we can't rely on him. We need new fighters. New heroes." The Doc told him with his thick estharien accent.

Captain Jack was suspicious. What did he have to do with the whole thing? anymore, they couldn't mean him, could they?

"Then I don't understand, why I'm here."

The other man, to the doctor's left side, dressed all in blue, began to speak.

"Did you ever hear of a place called: *Garden*?"

"I only know of one *Garden*, which is in front of my house, why?" The captain replied with a smirk.

"Very funny, Capt'n Jack. I was speaking of a place called *Balamb Garden*."

He gave the captain pictures of Garden and a file about it.

"This place is some kind of academy. The headmaster, who build all of this, is a man named Cid Kramer. When the children graduate school, they become mercenaries. *The Members of Seed.*" The man finished.

Jack Willis looked through the file, seeing the pictures and memorizing them. But he still didn't see the connection between him and this *academy.* Should he go and be instructor in this school? He wasn't cutout for the low status job that was *school teacher.* He was a soldier for Hyne's sake!

Seeing, how the capt'n rose a brow his eyes, the man in blue continued.

"Well, before you jump to any conclusions, let me explain this. We want a new generation of heroes. Heroes who can fight another sorceress if there comes another one down the line. And we'll get them out of this school"

He pointed to the picture which showed the building.

" ...Balamb Garden. We heard many good things about the Garden and also that there are many children with great potential. The reason why you're here is that we want you, Capt'n Jack Willis, to pick out three children with great talent and train them as good as you can for the next five years."

The Captain thought that he misunderstood them and gave them a confused look. Jack Willis, one of the best soldiers ever, a babysitter? Taking care of three brats, and for five long years? They couldn't be serious.

Unfortunately, they were. The Doctor's brown haired assistant added.

"This is a secret project called: *Dark Seed*. The children shall become better and more powerful than the original members of Seed. Because, if the normal Seeds fail, then we can rely on the Dark Seeds. But you must keep quiet about the whole project. Not even the president knows of it."

"And the children? Don't they have a right to know the truth? That they might die, if they fight against a sorceress?" The captain asked.

"Not a single word about it until we give our permission. They're useless if they are afraid of a sorceress or the consequences. You duty is: to train, teach and prepare the three chosen. With your experience and our science, we will be able to create the Dark Seeds. We'll support you in any possible way. This isn't a request capt'n, it's an order."

The captain nodded.

"I understand."

The tribunal stood up from their seats and so did the captain.

Doctor Odine went out of the room without a word, followed by his assistant in white. Captain Jack and the other were left behind. At least this man was polite. He came to the captain and shook his hand.

"Thank you Capt'n Jack. We really appreciate your help. As tough as the president is, I don't think he will be able to fight in ten years, or so."

The captain gave him a cold look.

"I don't do this out of helpfulness. I do it because it was an order."

Captain Jack released his hand and went out of the Sorceress Memorial.

//Balamb Garden a few days later//

Cid Kramer, headmaster of Balamb Garden, came into his office. He was told he had a visitor. When he entered it he saw a very short, bald man in uniform seated in the chair in front of his desk. He closed the door and approached his visitor.

"Hello. My name is ... " He didn't get much further, because the strange man interrupted him.

"... Cid Kramer, Headmaster of Balamb Garden?"

"Yes. From where do you....?"

"I thought so."

Cid noticed that this man wasn't one for nice small talk. What did he expect from a soldier? He was one himself, he should know. From what he saw, the man didn't any medals but the stripes on the shoulders told the headmaster the rank of this soldier.

"And you are Capt'n...?" He let the sentence open.

"Jack. Capt'n Jack Willis."

"And to what do I owe the honor of your visit?"

"I have orders to train three of your students."

This man came right to the point, no doubt.

"Excuse me? Who gave you this order?"

"Order from Esthar. I'm sure you are familiar with the name of Doctor Odine, aren't you?"

The headmaster was speechless. This stranger wanted three of his students?! They were like children to him, could he really afford doing this? And the children, who had parents?

The captain gave him a file, including the orders from Esthar and the permission from Doctor Odine. Cid went around and sat down, reading through the file for a few minutes. Then he looked up from the papers.

"Five years?!" He asked.

"These are my orders."

"But what's with the children who have parents? What will the parents say, if you take their children away from them."

"Then I have to convince them, if this isn't possible I look for another kid."

Cid sighed in dismay. The order was from Esthar and he had to follow it. Esthar was a powerful state. Who was he to disobey them? Well,... the children came back in five years right? So he shouldn't worry, ...but he did. Slowly he stood up from his chair. He gave the capt'n a sign to follow him and they went out of the headmaster's office.
