Balamb - 6:30pm (same day as previous chapter):

"Do you think its a mistake?" Zell asked Selphie.

"Huh? What?" Selphie mumbled, looking up from the comic book she was reading.

Zell lay on his bed, arms pillowed under his head, looking up at the ceiling. Selphie sat on the floor in Zell's room, a couple different comic books laid out around her.

"What I'm doin'," Zell explained his question. "Do ya think its a mistake?" He turned his head to look at his brunette friend.

"You mean with Squall?" Selphie asked, closing the comic book, giving Zell her attention.

"Yeah..." Zell said with a sigh. "Goin' ta Esthar just ta see him?"

"Where did this come from?" Selphie asked, setting the comic book down and shifting to crawl across Zell's bedroom floor to his bed.

"Honestly, Selp, what am I doing?" Zell asked. "Because I haven't the slightest clue."

Selphie pushed off the floor and sat on the bed next to Zell. "What's the matter with liking Squall?"

"Squall's Griever. He's a Super Star," Zell explained. "He can have anything he wants. ... Besides, ya know what he's supposed to be like."

Selphie raised her eyebrows as she spoke. "Is that how he is really is... because it didn't seem like it..." she reached down and removed the Griever necklace from under Zell's shirt. "Have you even taken this off at all?"

Zell looked down at the pendent in Selphie's hand. "No... Squall's complicated. And I can't help wanting him, but I'm afraid of what will happen."

Selphie released the pendent. "What do you think will happen?"

"He won't like me back!" Zell said, frowning. "Why would he?"

"Why wouldn't he?" Selphie stated, crossing her arms.

"Because he's a Super Star and I'm me. Just plain Zell," Zell said softly. "...Why would he be interested in me?"

"Zell, I think you're missing the point," Selphie said.

Zell frowned at her.

"He already likes you. He's already interested in you," Selphie said with a small smile.

"Y-you... think so?" Zell asked, his eyes widening.

Selphie smacked herself on the forehead with both hands. "Men!" Glaring down at Zell she continued. "Listen bishounen..."

Zell blushed.

"...He spent his birthday with you. He called you the next day. He's going to call you tonight! Squall gave you his pendent. ... He was staring at you when he stopped by before the concert. Hell, he gave you his guitar after only knowing you for one day! ... He protected you that night at the party," Selphie sighed. "He speaks to you. Actually talks! And you said he smiles... even if those can hardly be called smiles. You should ask him how often he normally smiles! ... Zell, I donno how to make it more apparent! Should I wave a green flag?!"

Zell half smiled, as his eyes glazed over. "He said he missed me."

"Urgh!" Selphie grumbled, putting her hand on Zell's neck, pretending to choke him. "Zell!!"

Zell laughed, taking her hands in his, moving them away. He sighed. "You're right..."

"'Course I'm right!" Selphie said, bouncing off the bed.

"I just needed to hear it from someone," Zell said softly, looking into her green eyes. "Ma said I needed to be careful. That everything could go bad really fast with Squall..."

Selphie frowned. "Who are you going to listen to?! Your mother?! Or your best friend?!" Selphie smiled sweetly.

Zell closed his eyes, smiling. "Peer pressure..."

Selphie laughed, sitting back down. "Besides, she is letting you go see him."

Zell opened his eyes, meeting Selphie's green spheres. "She is..."

"See!" Selphie exclaimed. "She understands. Sometimes in life you've just gotta go for stuff!"

Zell looked up to his white ceiling.

"And, Zell," Selphie said slowly. "You'll regret not going for Squall. Don't let him pass you by."

"I'm just afraid of being hurt," Zell said.

"Then let yourself be hurt!" Selphie insisted.

Zell frowned at her.

"Seriously! If he hurts you, it happens. But don't let a little fear stop you from trying to get the guy of your dreams! Don't let your own stupidity mess this up for you! ... You're afraid of being hurt?! You should be more afraid of losing the chance to be," Selphie said.

Zell looked away from Selphie, still frowning.

"Don't you want the chance with Squall?"

"'O course!" Zell replied.

"Are you willing to give that up because he might hurt you? - Because things might just work out between the two of you," Selphie continued her point. "The glass isn't always half-empty you know. Sometimes its half-full. And other times! You've drank all the milk because you had cookies!"

Zell laughed, putting his hands on his face. "Selphie..."

"Feel better?" Selphie asked.

Zell put his hands on his stomach. "Yeah. Thanks. I needed the pep-talk."

Selphie nodded, jumping up, heading back to the comic books.

Zell sat up, stretching. He glanced over at the clock: 7:13pm. "You planning on spending the night?" Zell asked, moving so his feet hung off the side of the bed.

Selphie looked to the clock. "Crap! I don't wanna go home!" she grumbled, standing up.

"Stay then," Zell said.

Selphie shook her head. "I wanna! But Ma might get pissed. Since I'm going to be spending near a week in Esthar! ... Don't think she'll like me asking to stay over at someone else's house right now."

Zell nodded, standing up. "I'll walk ya home."

Selphie shook her head. "No! You might miss Squall's phone call. I'm perfectly fine walking by myself."

Zell frowned. "You sure? I feel bad letting you go alone."

Selphie smiled. "Perfectly fine! Seriously."

Zell nodded. "'Kay," he said softly, walking to the door of his bedroom. Selphie followed him downstairs and to the front door. Zell sat down on the porch, watching Selphie walk away.

"Bye Zell!" Selphie called, waving her hand.

Zell waved back. "Later."

Esthar 7:30pm:

Seifer and Squall walked into Squall's hotel room. Closing the door behind him, Squall clicked the lock into place.

Further in the room, Seifer removed his coat, tossing it to one of the chairs, then he pulled off his shirt with a groan.

Turning to watch Seifer, Squall let his jacket drop from his shoulders, tossing it away. He pulled off his gloves as Seifer walked to the bed and flopped down on his stomach, another loud groan came from the blonde.

Squall tossed his gloves with his coat then walked to Seifer, his grey-blue eyes sparkling in laughter. Except everywhere else on Squall's face was his normal stoic, indifferent ice-mask.

Seifer opened his eyes to see Squall looking down at him. "Its not funny." Seifer said, closing his eyes again.

"Whatever..." Squall said softly. He sighed, getting onto the bed next to Seifer. Sitting on Seifer's thighs, Squall put his hands on the bare skin of Seifer's back.

"Its not," Seifer insisted, then groaned again as Squall's hands started to massage his back.

"Nothing broken?" Squall asked, leaning forward, pushing more of his weight onto his hands, and onto Seifer's back.

"Urm!" Seifer moaned. "No. Nothing's broken."

Squall sat back on Seifer's thighs, continuing the motions with his hands.

"Can't believe I fell..." Seifer mumbled.

"The stage moved," Squall joked, but his voice sounded completely serious.

"Ha ha," Seifer grumbled. "Falling off the stage... shit that hurt."

Squall stayed silent.

"Your fault," Seifer continued to grumble.

Squall dug his nails into Seifer's back.

"Ouch! Fuck! Stop..." Seifer snapped. "Shit..."

Squall went back to massaging Seifer's bare skin.

"You did scare me," Seifer muttered.

Squall leaned forward again, putting his hands on the mattress on either side of Seifer's head. "Didn't mean to."

"You snuck up on me!" Seifer said.

Squall pushed back up, caressing his hands lightly down Seifer's back. "I'm just quiet. ... You were drunk."

"Buzzed!" Seifer corrected.

"Whatever..." Squall said, pushing his hands down harder again.

Seifer sighed, his eyes closed again.

"Tomorrow..." Squall said softly.

"The concert," Seifer said with a sigh. "Keep massaging, Cub. I'll be fine for tomorrow."

"Tonight?" Squall asked, moving his hands to Seifer's shoulders and neck.

"You okay with me staying again?" Seifer asked.

"Whatever," Squall answered.

Seifer smirked. "... So what was with that model earlier today? Don't tell me you like women now too!"

Squall dug his nails into Seifer's back again.

"Fuck!" Seifer snapped, shifting his body.

Squall pulled his nails out of Seifer's flesh, glaring down at him.

"Fuck..." Seifer grumbled then he laughed softly. "It looked like you wanted to rip her head off..."

"Annoying..." Squall muttered, thinking back to Rinoa Heartilly.

"Guess she didn't take the hint, ne?" Seifer asked.

Squall started to massage Seifer's back again. The brunette just grumbled.

Seifer sighed, relaxing again.

The phone rang, startling both men.

Squall frowned at the phone, waiting for it to ring again before slowly moving off of Seifer and walking to the phone.

Seifer groaned, turning over onto his back, laying an arm over his face.

Squall picked up the phone. "Hai?"

"Squall!" the too familiar male voice on the other end of the phone said.

Squall closed his eyes, putting his free hand to trace over his scar. "Father..."

"Ah! Boy!" Laguna replied.

Squall turned to look at Seifer, who had his eyes closed, a small smile on his face.

"I-is there a reason ... you ... called?" Squall asked.

"You're in my city!" Laguna said. "I thought we could get together for lunch, boy! How's that sound?"

Squall cringed. He loved his father, but Laguna was on the other end of the personality scale. "W-when?"

Laguna sighed heavily. "Weeelllll..."

Squall closing his eyes, waiting in silence.

"How about... Thursday?" Laguna suggested. "Tomorrow you've got your concert and Wednesday I've got a few meetings to go to. Thursday is the best we can do... How's that sound, boy?"

"Time?" Squall asked. He knew he had work, but it was his father. He'd cancel something. Squall hadn't seen his father in over a year.

Laguna sighed again, giving himself a few extra seconds to think. "...Wha- Kiros-" Laguna turned away from the phone.

Squall bit back a growl. He looked at Seifer, who now watching him with a smile.

"Daddy wanna see his baby?" Seifer asked, smirking

Squall bit back another growl, glaring at Seifer.

Laguna came back. "How's 2 in the afternoon?"

"Whatever," Squall answered, hoping this conversation would be over. "Bye."

"Wait!" Laguna insisted.

Squall's shoulder's slumped. "Um?"

"How's your boyfriend?" Laguna asked brightly. Honestly keen on talking about his son's life.

"... boyfriend?" Squall asked. Was Zell his boyfriend? If he was, how the hell did Laguna know about the tattooed blonde?

"Seifer Almasy ... Flare. He's still your boyfriend, right?" Laguna asked.

Squall closed his eyes, frowning. "Broke up two years ago."

"Ohh... I though I just read a new article about how you two coped with being in a relationship and in a band together," Laguna inquired.

"That's for the news, Dad," Squall said softly. "You're the President of Esthar... I'd think .. well... you'd ... " his speaking ability was leaving him. "know... about stuff... like... ... that."

"Ah! Yes. Okay, then!" Laguna said. "So you still friends with Seifer?"

Squall ran his hand thought his hair, his eyes sparkling in exasperation. "...Yes." Of course! They were in a band together! How could they not be friends? If they weren't, Squall sure as hell wouldn't have been pretending to still be in a relationship with Seifer. Laguna should know his son better then that.

"I'm trying for conversation here, Squallie-boy," Laguna continued, his smile apparent, even through the phone.

"No... Squall.. ie.... Dad," Squall said.

Laguna laughed lightly. "Sorry. What about a new boyfriend... or girlfriend? You interested in women?"

Squall cringed again. "No girls."

"A boy then?" Laguna asked.

Squall thought for a moment. Is Zell my boyfriend? ... I'm definitely interested in him. ... Really, I want him to be my boyfriend. ... Am I actually going to tell my father that? "...yes."

"Oh?!" Laguna said. "Are you doing to tell me anymore about this boy?"

"... he's ...a boy," Squall said. What the hell was he supposed to tell his father about Zell?

"What's his name?" Laguna asked.

"...Zell," Squall said softly.

"Is he your boyfriend then? ... Where'd you meet him?"

I'm having a conversation with my father about my homosexual relationship. This is great. "I... don't know... if... he's my ... boyfriend. Met him at a party."

"Uncomfortable, Squall?" Laguna asked humorously.

Squall brushed a few stray strands of hair out of his face. "...no."

"I think I've milked this for all its worth," Laguna said. "I'll talk to you Thursday, then?"

"At 2," Squall replied, relieved the conversation was ending.

"Bye, Squallie-boy," Laguna said, near laughing.

Squall held in a growl. "Sayonara, Dad." Squall hung up the phone, turning around in his room. He breathed for a few moments, then walked back to Seifer.

Seifer watched Squall sit on the bed next to him, the grey-blue eyes glazed over.

"Cub? Daddy miss his little boy?" Seifer smirked at Squall.

Squall narrowed his eyes at Seifer. "My Fire..."

Seifer chuckled.

Squall reached over, about to flip the lamp off when his eyes widened. He looked at Seifer.

Seifer frowned at him. "What?"

"I'm supposed to call Zell," Squall said in a soft, slow voice, sitting up straight.

Seifer looked Squall over then forced himself into a sitting position. "... Want me to go for a walk?"

Squall sighed. "I didn't mean to suggest that. I just... should call him." Squall stood up slowly, walking back to the phone.

Seifer rolled his shoulders, his back popping loudly. He then rolled over and pushed himself out of bed.

Squall picked up the phone, turning to look at Seifer. "You... don't have to... go."

Seifer half-heartedly smirked. "Its alright. I'll give you an hour, ne?"

Squall smiled meekly. "Thank you, Seifer."

Seifer nodded, picking up his shirt and coat from a chair, pulling them off.

Squall looked down to the phone, pushing the number to Zell's house. He'd already memorized the phone number.

Seifer caught Squall's chin, turning Squall's face to look at him. Smiling Seifer leaned forward and kissed the side of Squall's mouth. "Good luck, Cub." Seifer smirked, letting go of Squall's chin and walking towards the door.

Watching Seifer leave, Squall listened to the phone ring. Moving his hand to his lips, Squall touched lightly were Seifer had kissed him.

Seifer shut the door behind himself, closing his eyes. Damn it. Fuck fuck!

Clenching his fists together, Seifer forced himself to breath. He opened his sky-blue eyes and continued down the hallway, planning on heading downstairs to the bar.

Balamb - At that moment:

Zell nearly fell flat on his face as he jumped from his bed to answer the phone.

"H-hello?" Zell said, picking up the phone, cursing his legs.

"Zell..." the familiar soft voice of Squall spoke.

Zell immediately smiled happily. "Squall!"

Zell heard Squall's silent breathing. "Y-you..." Squall started, but the words weren't working.

"Baby? What's up?" Zell asked, moving back to his bed to sit down.

More silent breathing. "... B-baby?"

Zell blushed. "Eh, sorry-"

"I like that," Squall replied softly.

Zell smiled brightly again.

"I thought about you today. I've been," Squall swallowed, "trying to think of a way to see you again."

"Oh! Baby, you won't believe it!" Zell said quickly. "I've got concert tickets to your Saturday show! I can come see you!"

Silent breathing filled the phone line.

"...Is that cool?" Zell asked.

"You... are going to be here Saturday?" Squall's soft voice almost sounded hopeful.

Zell smiled brightly yet again. "Yeah! Well, actually me an' my friends are gonna be leavin' Wednesday!"

"You'll come see me then?" Squall asked.

Zell nodded, even though Squall couldn't see him. "'O course! You're the whole reason I'm going!"

"Two days," Squall said softly, more to himself then to Zell.

"Yep!" Zell said happily.

"I was wondering today," Squall started. "Are you my boyfriend? D-do you want to be my boyfriend?"

"Yeah!" Zell replied. "'Course, baby!"

Silent breathing.

"So, what did you do today?" Zell asked.

"Model shoot," Squall said, almost sounding disgusted with that. "This female model seemed to be under the impression I was straight."

Zell laughed softly.

"She tried to get me to go out to dinner with her," Squall continued. His mouth and tongue were finally working right. "She was very annoying. Vain, too. Kept commenting on my looks and how I was such a big star. ... I find that a turn-off, really."

Zell chewed on his lower lip. "But you are very cute," Zell said.

"But is that all I am?" Squall asked.

"No," Zell said thoughtfully. "You're nice. And funny. And really talented! And your voice is sexy too. Not just singing, but the way you talk. Soft and slow. I like that!" Zell wrinkled his nose, smirking. "An' when we first meet, you were really caring with me. I didn't expect that. You gave me your guitar, signing it to me! You call me bishounen. An' when you came to see me at my house! Giving my your pendent. Then o' course spending your birthday with you... That was amazing. Then when you called me yesterday, and we had phone sex..." Zell cleared his throat quietly. "Sorta forgot the point I was making..."

A single, airy laugh that didn't last longer then a half a second came from Squall.

"Did you just laugh?" Zell asked.

Silence. "...I... think so," Squall answered. "I can't remember the last time I laughed. Or if I ever have..."

Zell smiled. "So, baby!"

"Bishounen," Squall answered. Zell swore he could hear Squall's meek smile on the words. "What did you do today?"

"Um!" Zell breathed in heavily, thinking. "Woke up late! Ate a lot of cookies... more then I should `of, I think." Zell wrinkled his nose. "Watched MTV most of the day, until Selphie came over with the Concert tickets. Then hung out all afternoon wit my friends." Zell nodded, sure that was the sum of his day.

"Sounds relaxing," Squall said.

"It was okay," Zell replied. "... I'm happy you called." Zell smiled.

"Didn't want to miss hearing your voice," Squall replied.

Zell giggled quietly.

A short silence came before Zell spoke. "Do you have time to spend with me? When I get there?"

Silence. Squall took a deep breath. "I'll make time. ... You can stay with me here at the hotel."

Zell smiled brightly. "You don't mind?!"

"Actually I mind if you don't," Squall replied.

Zell laughed. "'Kay! 'Cept, my friends..."

"I'll get them a room here," Squall replied softly.

"That okay?!" Zell asked.

"Of course, bishounen," Squall answered. "To have you with me..."

"I can't believe you're my boyfriend," Zell said, his eye glazed over, looking at the carpeted floor of his room.

"Zell," Squall spoke slowly. "You're ... never mind."

"I'm what?" Zell asked.

"Its not important," Squall mumbled.

"'Kay," Zell replied, slightly disappointed.

Squall sighed quietly. "You're just so... I don't know what it is about you. That makes me feel this way. ... I'm not out to hurt you. I wouldn't hurt you. ... I promise I'll never hurt you, bishounen."

Zell smiled a soft happy grin. "Thanks. I really needed to hear that."

"I asked Seifer if you were afraid of me," Squall continued. "I don't want you to ever be. I'll never lie to you. And I'll never hurt you."

Zell felt his stomach and chest tingle. He swallowed, smiling still.

"I'm-" Squall stopped suddenly.

"Baby?" Zell asked.

"I have to go, Zell," Squall said. "My manager is yelling about something... again. Always..."

"Tomorrow?!" Zell asked, trying to not sound as desperate as he felt.

"Earlier in the day, maybe. Depends on if I can... get time away," Squall said. "I've got a concert tomorrow night."

Zell heard loud mumbles in the back ground.

"Alright," Zell said, trying to hide his disappointment.

"I'll try, Bishounen," Squall said. "I miss you."

"See you Wednesday!" Zell said. "Bye, baby."

"Good-bye, Zell," Squall answered.

Zell clicked the phone off, tossing it carefully onto the floor. He looked up at the ceiling, sighing.

"Squall... Damn it! I'm depressing myself!" Zell mumbled. He glanced at the clock: 8:20pm. "Early... but maybe I'll just go to sleep..."

He sat up, eyes glazing over as he thought over the conversation he had with Squall. He smiled slightly. He said he won't hurt me. Promised. ... Thank you, Squall.

Esthar, that moment:

Squall looked at Jep.

"She spoke to more then one reporter!" Jep snapped at Squall.

"Who?" Squall asked.

Jep glared at him. "That model! Haven't you been listening?"

Squall walked away from the phone receiver. "I was on the phone."

Jep shook his head. "That model, Rinoa Heartilly, talked to a group of reports on how you and her were going to start dating."

Squall stopped head, turning to look at Jep. You're kidding.

"Some how the girl's under the impression you and her are going out this Friday night," Jep said, crossing his arms.

Squall looked blankly.

"Well?" Jep said.

Squall turned away, walking again to his bed. "Whatever..."

"You're going out with her?" Jep asked.

"No," Squall said, sitting down.

"Then how are you going to fix this?! The reports are having a field day with you not being gay. Then you cheating on Flare with a woman. Then they're still going on about that other blonde kid from Balamb," Jep growled. "Your image isn't looking good right now, Griever."

Squall rubbed his forehead. "Whatever..."

Jep sighed. "This is important. Your image. But... whatever." Jep shook his head. "You going to tell the girl you aren't going on a date with her?"

Squall closed his eyes. "Go away."

Jep frowned. "Fine. Let your image die." Jep shook his head again, turning 180 degrees, then walking back out of the hotel room.

10 minutes later Seifer slowly opened the door.

"Cub?" Seifer said, pushing the door shut.

Squall opened his eyes, sitting up. "My Fire?"

Seifer smirked, taking off his coat and shoes. "Heard Jep was up here yelling at you."

Squall sighed, flopping back on the bed again.

"Forget Jep," Squall said softly. "Turn off the lights. I'm tired."

Seifer turned the lights off then walked to the bed slowly, careful to not knock anything over. He sat down on the bed, pulling off his shirt. He felt Squall's bare hand press to his back.

"Sore?" Squall asked.

"Feeling better," Seifer replied, tossing his shirt away. "Booze numbed out the stiffness."

The hand moved from Seifer's back.

Taking a quick glance at Squall, Seifer pushed himself further onto the bed, laying on his stomach with his arms for pillows.

Squall moved to press against Seifer, wrapping his arm around Seifer's waist.

"How was blue eyes?" Seifer asked, smiling slightly.

"He's coming to Esthar," Squall said softly.

"Really?" Seifer asked, his eyes opening, the need for sleep vanishing.

"Wednesday," Squall confirmed. "With this friends... if you were curious."

Seifer frowned. "I didn't mean for that to happen."

Squall caressed Seifer's lower back lightly. "Whatever..."

Seifer smirked, closing his eyes again. "Asshole."

"A learned trait," Squall muttered back.

"Did you just call me an asshole?" Seifer asked, turning to look at Squall.

Squall opened his eyes in the dark. "That could be implied."

Seifer saw the laughter glittering in Squall's eyes, his face the normal ice-mask.

Seifer smirked at him. "Asshole."

"Whatever... sleep," Squall answered, closing his eyes.

"It would work better if we actually slept under the covers," Seifer muttered.

Squall ignored him, letting himself fall to sleep.

~*~

Seifer woke to find the bed empty, the lights in the 'living room' area of the hotel on in a soft glow, Squall sitting on a couch.

"Cub?" Seifer asked, sitting up, blinking his eyes at the light.

Squall looked up, smiling meekly. "One moment... let me finish." Squall looked back down to the paper in his hands.

"What are you doing?" Seifer asked.

"Writing," Squall said absently.

Seifer frowned, but shrugged it off. He moved to slip under the covers, pulling the blankets around himself.

Not a minute later the lights went off and Seifer felt Squall move into bed next to him, cuddling back against him.
