Disclaimer: Do YOU think I own Final Fantasy or Square-Enix? Maybe if I got enough people……. Nah. I'm still Final Fantasyless.

By the way, go to FFRadio.net if you want to hear all the final fantasy music and some of Nobuo Uematsu's original band, The Black Mage's music. I think it's all instrumental though.

“Excuse me, Commander Leonheart? Rinoa Heartilly is here to see you.”

Squall looked up from the current SeeD mission reports to see Xu waiting by the door. “Sure Xu, send her in.”

“Rinoa-oh,” Xu was cut off by Rinoa walking purposely into Squall's large office. Squall's office was big, after all he was the commander, but looked twice as large since the only things in there were the picture of the `gang', taken shortly after Squall and Rinoa's kiss at the party. In it was Quistis smiling, Irvine with his arm around Selphie, Selphie trying to reach up to put bunny ears on Irvine but failing miserably. Rinoa was looking up at Squall who was at least looking straight at the camera, and Zell in front sitting in a chair with a half-eaten hot dog sticking out of his mouth.

Other things included a desk with a lamp on it, a chair, and, courtesy of Cid, a balcony. Nothing else was present expect a chair for visitors.

Rinoa walked straight toward Squall's desk. Squall knew the look in her eye, anger, the kind of anger that turns Ruby Dragons into nothing but cute, cuddly little Chocobos. Squall wondered what could be wrong. He was pretty sure he hadn't missed some kind of date. Was it her birthday? No, it's only July 17. An anniversary, maybe? No, it had only been two months since the end of Ultimecia. The only other thing he could think of was…….

“Do you mind explaining this?” Her voice was sickly sweet but could easily be turned dangerous at a moment's notice. She thrust down a piece of paper with Squall's signature. Squall took one look at the paper and immediately thought, Zell, I really hope you enjoy having every bone in your body snapped. It was immediately followed up by, shit, what do I tell her without getting burned to a crisp?

“Well?” Her voice was raising and now had a very angry tone to it.

“It appears to be a piece of paper,” Damn Leonheart, way to slip back into Squall mode at exactly the wrong moment!

Rinoa was now beyond angry. “Paper!? Damn it Squall! How could you agree to this? Especially without asking me first?”

“Rinoa, please, the garden is in need of money, and he's offering a lot of it.”

Rinoa calmed down a bit. “General Caraway? Why him?! I was so glad to be rid of him and now I have to go back?”

Confusion spread on Squall's face. “How did you know you were going?”

Rinoa looked down sheepishly. “I sort of threatened Zell if he didn't tell me.” She started scuffing her boots on the floor.

Squall shook his head and stood up to go over to Rinoa. Rinoa looked up and was surprised to see Squall coming towards her. Afraid of what he might do to her, she tilted backwards a bit. He stopped right in front of her. “You have to be one of the craziest people I've met yet.” She was shocked to see him bend forward and kiss her lightly on the lips. He had only kissed her twice after the party, and both times were when no one was around. She smiled before remembering why she came here in the first place.

“Wait, weren't we talking about that mission?”

“We were, but not anymore.” He kissed her again before walking to the door. Total count: 5. Hey, that's a huge step for him, she thought. She looked down at the unfinished SeeD reports.

“Don't you want to finish these?” She asked him before he went out the door. Squall looked over his shoulder and shrugged.

“Only if you would like me to Rinoa.” Rinoa smiled and shook her head before following him out the door.

“How can you do that to me?” Squall looked at her with a confused face. “You know, make me lose my temper then somehow calm me down?” Squall shrugged again before pressing the down button on the elevator. Once the elevator doors opened a happy looking Selphie ran straight into Squall and fell down, much like the first time they met.

“Owwww…” Selphie wined and rubbed her head. She looked up and grinned before bouncing back up. “Finally I found you two! I've been looking all over and even had to be sent to the infirmary because of a T-Rex, just to find you!”

“What's so important that you had to find us right away?” Squall asked, clearly thinking it important and serious.

Selphie grin just widened while she pulled an imaginary zipper across her mouth. Squall groaned. “Fine, please will you tell me?”

She started to do her awkward looking `happy' dance. “The carnival is in Balamb!”

“Really?” Rinoa asked. Squall was afraid to see if she thought that a good thing or not. “Hyne, I haven't been to one of those since I was little!”

Squall looked over at her. She seemed ecstatic about it. Squall tried desperately to change her mind. “Rinoa, do you remember the last thing that happened when anything fun was happening?”

She looked over at him with a sad look. “Yeah, but I thought you had a least a little bit of fun with me.”

“What are you talking-o!” Squall smacked his forehead. She thought I was talking about the Fisherman's Horizon thing. “Not that Rinoa. I was talking about the Sorceress thing. As I recall you and me were almost killed and afterwards we were trapped in the prison.”

“Ya, but this time there isn't an evil sorceress we are trying to assassinate, is there?” Squall knew there wasn't any point in trying to convince her. “Xu? Could you tell Nida to head to Balamb please?” Rinoa and Selphie both screamed and hugged him.

“How in the world did you put me up to this?” Squall groaned while he and Rinoa walked through the many games, ticket booths and concession stands. Squall, Rinoa, Zell, Irvine, Selphie, and even Quistis had just entered the carnival and had split up to find things to do. The carnival looked more like an amusement park than an actual carnival. The only thing that was missing was the pitfall. The day, to Squall's disappointment, was a beautiful day to go to the carnival. Warm with a few clouds and a gentle breeze the day was great for just about anything. Rinoa was wearing a white tank top with blue jean shorts. Her hair was down how she always liked it. Squall was forced to leave his favorite jacket in his dorm do to the warm weather and wore a plain white shirt with short cargo pants.

“I smiled and batted my eyelashes,” Rinoa replied while observing all the people who were playing games. “I also dragged you out of Garden by threatening to sell your Lionheart Gunblade.” Squall scowled. “How much Gil do you have Squall?”

He didn't like where this was going. “Enough, why?”

She smiled up at him. “Because, as my official boyfriend you have to win me stuff. Plus Selphie bet me that Irvine is better than you.” She saw him suddenly become more composed, less relaxed. Stupid Rinoa! Stupid, stupid, stupid! Now he's going to steel himself up again! Me and my big mouth!

“Whatever.” Squall picked up a ball and paid the man. He took aim and threw. The ball knocked over the top bottle. He kept throwing until all the bottles were knocked down. “Okay, which one do you want?”

“I didn't think you were that good with a ball.” Rinoa said, clearly impressed. Squall just shrugged. She pointed at the rather large stuffed moogle and thanked the man. Both of them turned around to see everyone looking at them. They all seem to be whispering. Rinoa heard things like “….sorceress….” and “….Ultimecia…” By now, though, they were both used to the gossip.

Rinoa's eye caught something. I wonder how strong Squall really is.“Come on Squall; let's see how strong you are.” She dragged him by the arm to the strength tester. A man with crazy looking blue hair and a cold, cool expression walked up to Squall and Rinoa. Blue veins covered his forehead and went down his eye lids.

“Excuse me,” His voice was accented in a weird way neither of them has heard. “Is that your friend over there?” He pointed with a longer than normal finger over to the strength tester to Zell looking extremely smug.

“Ya, why?” Squall asked, already not trusting this man. Everyone knew about the group who defeated Ultimecia. Laguna had made sure of that. He was beginning to wish he brought his Gunblade along.

The blue haired man smiled. “I merely wanted to know if you were as strong as him. Excuse me.” He bowed and moved through the crowd.

Squall watched him as he walked away. “Weird.” He heard Rinoa whisper. “Ya…..”

“Squall, how bout we go on the Farris Wheel instead? We should leave Zell to his glory.” Squall nodded his head, still looking at the direction the man went off to. He reluctantly walked toward the Farris Wheel with Rinoa.

Once on the Farris Wheel and halfway to the top, Squall let his steel covering down somewhat. Rinoa, seeing him relax, decided that he would allow her to rest against him. Once her head hit his shoulder, he tensed, but relaxed after a couple of seconds. Putting his arm around her, he rested his head into a comfortable position and thought. Not his normal thoughts, but thoughts filled with Rinoa. Though he wasn't ready to admit it yet, he loved the feel of her hair against his skin. He loved….pretty much everything about her. But his mind kept him from telling her, the one person it matters most to. The Farris wheel stopped when they were at the top to start letting people off.

After about 5 minutes of comfortable silence, Rinoa asked, “What are you thinking about Squall?” Inwardly she was thinking, please say you, please say you.

You, was the first thought that came into his mind. Of course, he wasn't about to tell her that. Instead he replaced it with, “About life, choices, minds playing tricks on you, the universe.”

Rinoa bit her lip. At least it's more than he used to say. “What about you?” That one caught Rinoa by surprise; Squall usually wasn't one for small talk. Before she could say anything, the Ferris wheel shook violently. They were both instantly snapped out of their `moment'. “What was that?” Rinoa asked. She saw Squall looking at something out of the corner of her eye. She looked in the direction he was and muffled a scream with her hand at the sight.

Off in the distance she could see a huge creature the size of 3 Jumbo Cactuars or more. It had a mask over its head and its arms were held together with chains. Half of it appeared to go under the ground. Its two large blue wings were folded around it like a cocoon. It tilted its head back and made a jerking motion that appeared to light up its eyes. The nearest building exploded into a heap of rubble. The explosion made the Farris wheel jerk dangerously back and forth. Squall desperately wished for a GF at that moment.

Was that a cliffy? Excellent. Ur just gonna have to wait till after FF7 and FF10-2 chapters.
