chapter 8

Inside the apartment Irvine and Squall now dressed again, were sitting close to each other on the couch. "So you still pickin' up young guys tryna make 'em into champs." Irvine said more as a statement than question. "You mean helping them reach their full potential, yeah but I'm thinking of retiring." Squall slid himself down on Irvine's chest resting his head.

"Retire? why you're good and your little trainee seems to like ya a lot." Irvine said petting Squall's hair. The only response he got was a shrug. "So is he gay? cute little guy." Irvine said. "Yeah he is." Squall said tiredly. "Cute or gay?" Irvine said playfully. "Gay, what about that guy you were with?" Squall said and yawned.

"Never thought about it before but yeah he is pretty good lookin." He laughed when Squall grumbled. "The boy's confused if you ask me, don't know what he wants. Gets on my damn nerves sometimes." Irvine said yawning himself.

"So why don't you dump him? Have you fucked him too?" Squall said a little tightness in his voice. Irvine frowned "Come on Squall that was years ago and you know it wasn't true. Those assholes were just tryna ruin my reputation and us, looks like they succeeded." Irvine said, he put his arms around Squall and squeezed him a little.

Squall put his hands on Irvine's arms and sighed. "No they didn't," Irvine raised an eyebrow. "I did. Look Zell's gonna be back soon you should go." Squall got up from the couch and Irvine's grip. Irvine sighed and got up slowly. He went over to the door where Squall was standing holding his hat.

"Yeah its getting kinda late I guess," He gave Irvine his hat "I'll see you later then." He kissed Squall on the forehead and left putting his hat on. Squall sighed and closed the door.

Half an hour later Zell comes in quietly singing the song from the gym that got stuck in his head. When he went inside the lights were off but their small TV was glowing. Zell stopped his singing and looked around. "Squall?" He locked the door and threw his jacket on the table.

He went to the kitchen and got himself a drink, taking it to the small hallway where the bedrooms were. He walked into Squall's room squinting through the darkness. "Squall, you in here?" He whispered. When he saw a figure lying on the bed he went and sat down on the edge of it. He took a sip of his drink almost choking on it, being startled by a low voice.

"Where were you?" Squall said not moving. "Geez don't do that I thought you were sleep. Anyway I was at the gym, its really cool you should see the place." He took another drink.

"Do you know what time it is?" Squall said still not moving, he was lying on top of the blanket on his stomach. Zell put his drink down on the dresser beside him. "Yeah its only 11: 20, move over." He went to the top of the bed and Squall slid over enough for Zell to lie beside him. He lied on his back making sure to keep his sneakers off. "You should have been back before eleven, like you said crazy locals."

"Nah the people were cool, besides I'm fine and it is Saturday." Zell waited but got no response so he stood up. "Eleven next time, go to bed." Zell smiled to himself when Squall finally answered and he picked up his drink and patted Squall on the leg before going to his room.

He flicked up the light switch to reveal a room that looked like a garage sale. "Ah Squall, ya could have done my room too." Zell mumbled to himself. He walked to the bed that had the newly bought sheets and things on it. He opened them up and began fixing the bed happily with the thoughts of the night running through his mind.

"I gotta stop acting this way, I'm not some love sick school girl," He finished the bed and ran a hand across the soft dark blue blanket. "Perfect. Guess I'll do the rest tomorrow." He said pulling off his clothes leaving only his boxers on. He turned out the light then climbed in the bed.

'I wonder if he's still there, maybe he's thinking about me. Ah fuck he doesn't even know my name yet.' He reached over the side of the bed and grabbed his nearby suitcase, opening it he pulled out the newspaper clip of Seifer. It was in an old frame from home, that Zell took the caution of doing before it wrinkled or worse.

He sighed sliding his fingers over the glass cover. Images of Seifer at the gym ran through his mind.

(Zell walked up to Seifer taking the cigarette from him and took a puff himself letting the smoke out slowly. Then Seifer took it from Zell's hand dropping it to the floor and pulled the smaller boy into his arms kissing him deeply. Zell wrapped his arms around Seifer's neck and he put his arms around Zell's waist then slowly slid his hands down the thin little body.…)

"Shit!" Zell said snapping out of his vision. He looked down at the bulge that formed in his shorts. Hesitating he closed his eyes and kissed the picture still in hand and lied it on his chest, then he used his other hand and closed it around his erection. After waiting there a minute he moved the hand slowly down his length and let out a shaky breath. "Oh Seifer." He squeezed the picture in his hand while squeezing himself at the same time and relaxed into what he was doing. Thoughts of his new found love going through his mind.

"First time for everything."

......................................

Sunda y passed without a thought of what happened the day before. Zell didn't see Seifer at all and Squall didn't see Irvine either. Most of their day was spent buying food, and driving around to get familiar with the place. Eventually Zell took Squall to the gym he'd been at the night before and they worked out for hours. The day passed quickly and now it was early Monday morning.

Zell stood outside the large school of Galbadia watching the other students and instructors file in. 'Don't be afraid you can kick anybodies ass that messes with you anyway right?' He thought to himself. He swallowed hard and looked over at Squall standing beside him.

"Are you sure I should still be going to school, maybe we could just train some more today." He said hopefully. Squall shook his head "You have to its the law, and if you want to stay in the league you have to go." He said looking around impatiently, not wanting to be there just as much as Zell didn't.

"Well..... I guess I'll see ya later then." Zell said solemnly and Squall patted his shoulder before he walked away. Zell looked back one last time watching him get into the rented car then he made his way slowly into the school.

The school was even bigger on the inside than it looked from out there. Zell stood at the front gate watching everyone casually go to where they usually did in the air conditioned school. "Hey!" A voice startled Zell and he slightly jumped where he stood. After calming himself he turned to see the guy from the furniture store walking to stand beside him.

"Remember me, Nida?" The boy said. Zell immediately felt relief and smiled for the first time since he woke up that morning. "Yeah, man am I glad to see you. This place gives me the creeps." They both began walking in step farther into the school. "Yeah it'll do that for the first few days. But hey you've got me to help you out right. Come on I'll take you to the office." Nida said and grabbed Zell's hand pulling him along.

When they reached the office Nida let go of Zell's hand and they walked to the front desk. Zell looked around with his eyes and had to do a double take when he noticed a familiar figure in a smaller office where the door had been left open. 'Seifer?' He tried to look harder but was jerked away by Nida and turned his gaze to an old woman at the desk.

"This is Zell, uh what's your last name again?" Nida asked. "Uh Dincht, D I N C H T." He spelled it out before the woman could even open her mouth. "So will you be getting a dorm here?" The plump woman asked. Zell turned confused to Nida. "No he has residence in Deling." Nida nudged Zell "Do you have the transfer papers?" He asked. "Oh right, here." He handed the woman the large envelope of papers Squall had given him that morning. She nodded flipping through them. "One moment please." She said and went to the computer against the wall beside her.

Zell took the opportunity to look back towards the room where he thought he saw Seifer, sure enough it was him and Zell tried to keep down the smile that was waiting on his lips and the slight embarrassment remembering the two nights before when he'd fallen asleep thinking about his crush.

"Here you are son," The woman handed him a freshly printed piece of paper. "This is your schedule for the year. I gave you a few new classes since you've done so well with the basics in your old school." The woman smiled at him and he politely smiled back. "That'll be all then I'm sure mister Kamiyo can fill you in on the rest today. Come back here if you need anything or get lost." The woman put on her glasses that were sitting in her pocket and went back to the papers in front of her.

"Well lets go." Nida said and Zell slowly followed him from the office. 'He goes to school? hm and here of all places, well guess that makes since. This might not be so bad after all.' Zell took one last look in the room, watching Seifer talk with another blonde man that sat in front of him at a desk. Then he ran from the office to catch up with his new friend.

Inside the office Seifer was about to get up and leave but the mans voice stopped him. "I'm serious Seifer if you want to stay in the league you need to bring your grades up or I'm afraid we'll have to pull you out." Martine said sitting back against his chair. "I told you I'll take care of it, what the hells is wrong with you people anyway. Ever hear of go for the goal and don't let anything stand in your way." Seifer said standing in front of the desk arms crossed.

"I'm sorry son but that doesn't apply here, so you'd better take care of it. We all want you to succeed in the game but you have to do good in school too." "Then why not pull some strings huh, they do it in movies." Seifer mumbled looking away from the man. Martine sighed and before he could open his mouth again Seifer left.

Squall was in the elevator waiting for the door to open and when it did he was pushed back inside against the wall. He almost put up a defense until he felt the warm lips of Irvine Kinneas on his own. Irvine reached back with a free hand and pushed a button then returned his hand to Squall's hip. The kissing lasted for a minute leaving them both breathless when they pulled apart.

Irvine smiled down at him. "Mornin darlin." He kissed his forehead and Squall blinked.

"......Irvine, we can't do this again." Squall said "Do what?" Irvine backed up and leaned against the closest wall crossing his arms. Squall sighed "You know what, fuck each other and act like a couple the next day." He looked away from Irvine's playful expression. "Who says I'm playin'? who said I ever was?" His tone became more serious and he cornered Squall again.

The elevator stopped and Squall made a move for the door but Irvine closed him in more and grabbed under his chin forcing him to meet his eyes. "You didn't ruin anything between us before, we were just scared or unsure of how things were goin'. Then people found out and scared you away making up shit about me a-"

"And I didn't believe you, then I pulled away and ignored everything that didn't have to do with boxing." Squall looked away after Irvine dropped his chin and he rubbed at his temples. "I'm sorry Irvine."

Irvine smiled and pulled Squall into a hug placing his chin on top of his head. "Me too darlin, so lets forget that and start over right now." Squall moved away and looked at him. "I don't know, now might not be the best time." "If its the championship thing don't worry about that we'll always be rivals in the game but hey we are just coaches. Come on it'll work trust me."

Irvine waited for an answer and instead got a kiss then he watched Squall leave the elevator. "We'll see." Squall said and motioned for Irvine to follow him. "I thought you were going up." Irvine said following. "Yeah until I remembered I have to pick up the schedule for the game matches and I'm sure you still can't drive so you might as well come."
