Chapter 1: Welcome Back and Bets
“Princess Rinoa!”
“Can I help you?” A young woman with shoulder length black hair among two brown streaks and chocolate brown eyes looked up at the knights. She wore a black spaghetti strap black shirt with black shorts and a very long blue duster over it with no sleeves. Her hands were covered by fingerless black gloves which matched her knee high black boots.
“Did you have something to do with this?”One knight twitched and tried to pull off his helmet but failed. I shook my head and they began to walk away until I burst out laughing. “It was you!”
“MWHAHAHAHAH!” I jumped up and ran the opposite way. The guards ran after me as I found myself in the loading docks. “MWHAHA—Ow!” I swear I hit a wall. I fell back on the floor, rubbing my head. A blonde blur hovered over me.
“Princess Rinoa—huh?” They stopped and looked at the newly landed ship. “That's an old ship…” Alright! They're distracted! Now, to make my dramatic escape... “Where do you think you're going?” Damn..!
“Um... to my room and locking everyone out?” I said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. The blonde chuckled and held out his hand to me. “Thanks.” I grinned and brushed off my clothes.
“Still bump into stuff, huh?” He smirked, letting go of my hand as I pouted and stuck my tongue out at him. “Hey--“
“...Keep it if you mouth unless you're going to use it. I gotcha Zane.” I said, cutting him off as he smirked at me and turned to the guards.
Zane's not his real name of course. Just a nickname I gave him. His real name is Zidane Tribal; he's my childhood friend. I've known him since he came here which was around when his five or six. I'd always bring him to the castle sometimes. He wasn't really used to royalty so most of time we were on the streets of Lindblum.
See?
Zidane minus id = Zane.
Pure genius.
He blinked. “What did you do now?” Zidane asked me.
“...Look.” I appeared behind the guards and tried to pull off one of their helmet. “I casted small on their helmets.” Zidane looked down for a few seconds then dropped to the floor laughing.
“What an abominable thing to do!” Someone yelled at me and I moved closer to the person. He was wearing old rusty armor and smelt worst than all the knights coming back from training. I circled around him and stopped in front of him.
“...Who are you?” I asked as I tilted my head to the side. “You're not one of my knights, are you?” Zidane's laughing died down a couple minutes before and he glanced at me.
“Rusty's with me along with them.” He pointed to a small boy and a girl.
The boy was a black mage, which was obvious. However, he seemed a little shy. His head was covered by a large hat but I could see his glowing golden eyes. Even though they looked blank, I could tell they held more than that.
Next was Garnet til Alexandros XVII. Yep, the princess of the great Alexandria. She had long dark brown hair and chocolate eyes. I don't know what she's doing here because usually they send a warning then come to Lindblum. Then again... Brahne, the queen of Alexandria, had been acting strange lately.
“Hi there, little guy!” I smiled, kneeling down to the mage. “What's your name?” He timidly played with his hat and looked up at me.
“V-Vivi, m'am.” Aw, how cute. He's so polite and adorable.
“I'm Rinoa Heartilly, princess of Lindblum~ Make yourself at home, okay~?” I stood up as he nodded slightly. Zidane pouted and I turned to him with a confused look.
“You never said that to me...” He muttered lowly, but I still heard him and laughed.
“Well, you were never the one for royalty anyway.” I explained to him as he nodded, crossing his arms. “However, what are you doing here?” His expression grew serious.
“I am Princess Garnet Til Alexandros.” The black haired girl bowed slightly. “I humbly request an audience with Regent Cid." Garnet asked as I turned towards her.
"You must be kidding!” The elite guard laughed. “No member of the royal family, let alone a princess, would ever ride in such a shabby airship. And look at the company you're keeping." He sneered, glancing at Zidane, Vivi and Rusty. Was that his real name anyway?
"How dare you accuse the princess of lying!?” The armor guy started to jump up and down. “The princess was forced to come here under extreme circumstances!"
“Calm your temper, Rusty.” I said, holding up a hand and gazed at the guards. “This is Garnet. I can tell from the Falcon Claw hanging around her neck.” Everyone looked at the princess' neck and the guards' eyes widen. “Hey,” I glanced at a guard. “I'll fix you if you get Artania for me.” He nodded eagerly and I snapped my fingers, reverting the helmet back to normal.
"If you weren't such a filthy-looking oaf, they would not be suspicious of us!" Rusty scowled at Zidane who didn't even look at him and closed his sapphire eyes.
“That's not true.” I said, crossing my arms as the knight looked at me. “I used to come here with him from time to time so I don't think he was under suspicion.”
“Princess Rinoa,” He started and I turned my head to look at him. “How were you acquainted with thief like him?” I glanced at Zidane then smiled.
“Well—“
"What is going on?" A new voice asked, making us turn to the entrance.
"Sir, we have unknown visitors who wish to see the regent. And one of them is carrying a pendant that looks like a Falcon Claw." The guard explained as I rolled my eyes. I swear I just told them... “And Rinoa's causing trouble.” I snapped my fingers and turned to the helmets to normal.
“I'll just make my leave~!” I zipped out of there faster than a chocobo.
----
“Damn that was close...” I muttered and sat on a stool. “Hey Bobo, can I have some soooup?” I asked as he raised a brow at me. He the owner of the bar I went into. He rather chubby and always wears an apron, even outside.
“If ya sing.” He said, drying glass as I titled my head to the side and crossed my arms. “The last woman that worked here broke all my windows and now I ain't got no entertainment.”
“Well, if that's the case.” I said, standing up. “But I'm not dancing.” Everyone turned to the stage as soon as I stepped on, like I was going to kill them or something. “Yeah, kick me off before I sing guys, real nice!” I pouted as they started to laugh.
As a kid I never stopped
Searching for a great tresure
I had a map in my mind
That I knew would lead me
Had to find my way to that place
Before someone could beat me
The promised land was in my grasp
And I wouldn't let go
Searching for a great tresure
I had a map in my mind
That I knew would lead me
Had to find my way to that place
Before someone could beat me
The promised land was in my grasp
And I wouldn't let go
(La, la, la, la)
My only dream
My only dream
(La, la, la, la)
I won't stop chasing it until it comes true
But if the world ever changes
I'll call out your name
We could return to the time
When everything's the same
As long as I'm with you
My memories won't fade
Waiting for that one true dream...
I won't stop chasing it until it comes true
But if the world ever changes
I'll call out your name
We could return to the time
When everything's the same
As long as I'm with you
My memories won't fade
Waiting for that one true dream...
I stopped and looked around. Everyone was silent and I sighed, waving my hand. They started to whistle and clap and I grinned. Hoping of the stage, I jumped back on my stool to see my soup. I grabbed the soup started to eat it.
“You did always have a nice voice, Rinoa.” I spit out my soup and looked beside me. A rat started to laugh at me as I dried my mouth. The rat races are called Burmecians usually. She was wearing a very large red coat and her blue eyes held amusement.
“Freya?!” I grinned and turned my body to her. “It's been a long time!” She smiled at me and nodded, drinking her tea. I met her with Zidane a couple years back, and we've been friends ever since. Everyone's just coming back.
"Yo, Pops. I'll have the stupid special." A masculine voice said as Bobo turned to the door with anger.
"Who said that!?” My monkey tailed friend grinned. “Zidane... I figured it was you." The chef grumbled as Zidane chuckled.
"How've you been?"
"Alright, I guess...” Bobo said. “Have a seat. Your soup'll be ready in a minute." Zidane moved next to me and sat down with his usually smirk.
“Pleasant voice you got there, Rinoa.” I glanced at him and laughed. I don't know... All his pervert jokes always did. Sometimes I would play along too. “I wonder how nice is will be when you--”
"Hey, monkey-tail,” Freya started, sipping her drink. “You're disturbing the other customers."
"What the--” Zidane glanced at the Burmecian and spotted her tail. “You've got a tail, too, rat-face!" He jumped out of his seat.
"Rat-face...” The woman muttered. “...After I finish my drink, I'm gonna kick your butt." She said calmly, and sipped again as Bobo turned to them, sighing.
"Hey, Zidane, take it outside." I fell off of my stool laughing as Freya turned to Zidane, who held a shocked expression.
"Long time, Zidane." She smiled and turned back to the counter as Zidane grinned.
"Hey! What's up!?” He stood there frozen as I got up off the floor. What an idiot... “Wait a minute..."
"You forgot my name?" The rat raised a brow as the monkey shook his head.
"No, I remember.” He tapped his finger on his chin. “You're Helga, right?"
"Wrong." Freya frowned as I shook my head. He was serious...
"...Christine?" She twitched in annoyance.
"No!"
"...Oh yeah! You used to live next door to me. How's it going...Ratchel?”He crosses his arms. “Man, you've really gotten...” He looked her up and down. “Big."
She turned to him in frustration."You nasty little--"
"Come on. I'm just kiddin'.” Zidane grinned widely. “You know I never forget a pretty girl's name." He winked at us as I shook my head and ate my soup. "So, how've you been, Freya?"
"...Same old Zidane." Freya said, as Bobo poured more hot water into her cup and she placed another tea bag in.
"How long has it been?" He sat back in his seat and turned to her.
"About three years, Zane." I said, pushing my bowl away from me and placed my head on the counter.
He glanced at me then looked at Freya."Hey, did you ever find out anything about your boyfriend?"
"No..." We flinched at her forlorn voice and Zidane decided to change the subject,
"So... What brings you to Lindblum?"
"The Festival of the Hunt. What else? It's a good opportunity to test my skills." She gazed at Zidane, a brow raised. "Aren't you participating?" He shook his head and began to eat his soup.
"...Nah. I think I'll pass."
"Lazy bum."
“He's scared he'll loose.” I grinned as I felt his gaze on me.
“Is that a challenge?” He smirked at me and continued to eat as I shrugged at him. “Okay, I except. If I win you have to---”
“Hey, whoa, whoa, hey!” I said, cutting him off. “I never said consequences! I was just saying!” I scowled, making his smirk widen. “Oh god, no. Freya help me~!” I cried to my friend as she shook her head.
Evil woman...
“As I was saying...” He persisted as I sunk my head on the table, waiting for the stupid ordeal. “If I win you have to do anything I say for a month.”
“Hell no.”
“Hell yes, unless you're... to chocobo to do it?” He grinned as I twitched at his antics.
Damn you monkey... damn you...
“Fine, but if you lose, which you will against her,” I pointed to Freya. “You have to... go a month without flirting~!” His sapphire eyes widen as the Burmecian laughed.
“Harsh one, Rinoa.”
“Alright! You're on!” Zidane said, jumping out of his seat and ran out the door. I looked after her and sighed, shaking my head.
What did I get myself into...?
“He didn't pay!” Bobo sneered, noticing him gone and I smiled, paying for his meal. “Rinoa... you ain't gotta be so nice.” I just shrugged and jumped off the stool.
“C'mon Freya, time to get you in some gear!” She sighed, jumping off the stool and followed me as we left the bar. Freya's gonna beat Zidane! She had to!
....For my sake~!
