Chapter 2: Getting the Gear and Expectations of the Bet

“You really didn't have to buy all this.”

“Well, I know you're going to win but I gotta be sure, right?” I told Freya as I lifted up her bags with a grin.

We had finally finished shopping and now on our way to drop it off at the hotel she's staying at. I told her she could sleep n the guest room but she said that would be too much of me. We just have one more place to go and we're done. Freya didn't want to go but she needs the best quality!

“HEY!” I shouted, walking down some stairs. “Are you guys here?!” Freya raised a brow at me but continued to let me pull her down.

“Rinoa!” A cheer voice called from down the stairs, after I heard metal hitting metal. “We're down here, alright!”

“Good! You'd better be, Cody!” I grinned, stepping on the last step noticing Cody standing there. He has short brown hair and golden eyes. He's almost like me; optimistic and cheery!

“Rinoa? What do you want?” A much deep voice asked from the deeper in the store. He came up, wiping his hands off, grease on his cheek. His flat black hair covered his hazel brown eyes slightly.

“Rude as always, Asher...” I muttered bitterly as he laughed at me. Asher wasn't always rude; it was only because he never really had friends other than us in his childhood. He was always so rude to everyone else but we looked past it.

“Asher, it is not necessary to be discourteous to Miss. Heartilly.” Another voice scowled the black haired boy who rolled his eyes and crossed his arms over his chest. I turned my head to the man. He had long dark green hair that was held back in a low ponytail and light blue eyes.

“Aw, thanks Espio!” I smiled at the man, who had just lightened up my mood. He's a smart one, that Espio. However, he's rather quiet and to himself, much like Asher. He's nicer and more polite though. “But I need a favor.”

“What?” Cody raised a brow, leaning on the wooden desk as I pulled Freya next to me. “Who's that?”

“This is my friend Freya Crescent.” I looked up at her. “Freya, this is Cody, Asher and Espio. They're blacksmiths.” I pointed to each of them as I said their names. “I need you to make her the best weapon. I'll pay any amount, okay? My butts on the line! Maybe literally...” I muttered the last part.

“For the Festival of the Hunt, right?” Asher asked as the Burmecian nodded. “Alright, we'll do it but I might not want Gil--OW!”

“You don't have to pay us that much, Rinoa.” The brunet told me as the green haired man smack Asher over the head. “It's not like we don't get a lot of business, anyway.”

“It will acquire about an hour or so.” Espio explained as I frowned slightly. An hour? That's like a day! “However, we will aim at our hardest to assemble it as fast as achievable.” I smiled again, and hugged the boy.

“Thank you!” His cheeks tinted red as he awkwardly hugged back. “Come on, Cody, Asher!” I opened my arm to them and the brunt grinned, welcoming it.

“Hell no.” Asher frowned, moving towards the back of the store as I frowned at him. Only if I have rubber powers...!

---------------------------

Less than an hour? Man, why is it so long?!

Freya left, saying she had some stuff to do so I was alone and bored. The sun was starting to set but I don't fear the streets at night so it's okay. Everyone greeted me as I walked past them. I'm not one of those stuck up brat princesses; I actually care so I waved back at them.

“Ah! Princess Rinoa!” A voice called from a house and I stopped as I turned to the house. A man had opened the door and I walked closer. It was Zackary. He was the Inn owner. He had short blonde hair and matching golden eyes.

“Sup, Zack?” I asked, as he let me in. “How's is it running your dad's business?” I smirked slyly as he groaned.

“Hell. Mia's not helping...” That would be his sister. She was younger than him by two years, I believe. He's around 25 maybe? I dunno, never really asked him. “What are you up too?”

“Nothing, really.” I shrugged, leaning against the front desk. “I have a bet with Zidane, though.”

“He's back?” Zack raised a brow as I nodded.

“Yep. Perverted as ever.” He and I shared a small laugh. “The bet was on the Festival of the Hunt. He won I have to do anything he says. If he loses, he can't flirt for a month.”

“I feel sorry for you.”

“What?” My head snapped towards him. “Are you saying I'm gonna lose?” He nodded and I smacked him across the head. “I can't lose, Zackary! If I do I am so screwed!”

“Literally...”

“Oh, shut up!” I smacked him across the head again and he held the throbbing wound. “I even got Cody and the others to make her a weapon which should be done in...” I glanced at the clock. “Twenty minutes passed? Aw man....” I crossed my arms and pouted.

“Rin, Zack! Hey!” Zack and I looked towards the door to see the monkey-tailed devil himself. He was grinning, his tail swishing around as usual.

“Staying here?” We both said, a brow raised as he nodded, making me laugh. Zidane, being a thief all his life, feels awkward sleeping or eating royally. Why? I dunno, I don't like it that much either.

“What are you guys talking about?” He asked, standing in front of us.

“About the be--OW!”

“Nothing! Nothing at all!” I laughed nervously, after hitting Zack on the head. Zidane glanced at the other blonde, then me and blinked. “It was just stupid-ness! Nothing important!”

“Well, okay.” He shrugged and handed me a paper. I gazed at it and looked at the monkey-tailed blonde, who was smirking.

Not a good sign....

“What is this?” I said, opening it.

“All the stuff I want you to do when I win.” I almost choked on air. “There's mostly likely more ... but I can't think of anything else.” My eyes scanned the paper.

First thing's first, YOU LOSE > =P

`Really, mature Zane...'

Second: You have to let me kiss you when I want.

`That's not too bad... but why would that matter anyway?'

Third: I can touch you where I want

`Okay, that's just....! Never mind....'

Fourth: I won't make you sleep with me, even though you want to, but tell the ladies you did if they ask and say I was great.

`....No comment.'

Fifth: Tonight, you have to sleep next to me in a bunny suit.

`I guess he means tomorrow... but a bunny suit?!'

“Zane, you are five kinds of crazy.” I shook my head as Zack started to laugh. “Don't read it!” I smacked him again.

“So you'll be prepared.” Zane said, snaking his tail around my waist. “Less trouble for me.” I sighed, placing my head on his shoulder as he moved closer to me.

ZACKARY J PHILIP!' All three of us jumped up at the voice. “WE'RE CLOSED NOW! HOW MANY TIMES DO I...” A woman ran down the stairs and noticed the three of us standing there. “Oh! Princess Rinoa! I didn't know you were here!” She bowed to me and I waved my hand.

“I'm no one special.” I smiled at her. “It's time I should go to get the--- I mean go to my friends' house....” I said as Zidane unwrapped his tail from around me. “Bye Zane, bye Zack, bye Mia.”

Yep, that loud girl was his little sister.

“Cody! Asher! Espio!” I called, walked down the stairs of their shop. At the end, I turned to my right to see Freya. “Oh, I didn't know you were here...”

“I just got here.” She answered as I smiled, walking towards the front desk. “Hey, Espio?”

“Yes, Miss. Heartilly?” The green haired man poked his head from the back door. “Oh, that is right. Your weaponry, correct?” I nodded and he went back in the door.

“Is he always like that?” The Burmecian asked, standing beside me as I nodded.

“Out of the three of them, Espio is the smartest and most polite.” I smiled slightly. “I mean, I've told him to call me by my name and he's all like `It's improper!'. So I just leave as is.” She chuckled. “Asher is an ass, no lie. But he has his moments. Cody... there's not much to say, seeing is better than telling.”

“Here.” We turned to Asher who standing in front of us. “This is an advance version of Partisan.” He placed it on the table. “Espio add grip so it won't be able to slip easily out of your hands when some one tried to knock it out of them.” The black haired boy explained. “Now, we sharpen the blade and added some extra blades make it do more damage so basically, a thin halberd.” Freya took it in her hands and tried it a few times.

“...It's so light...” The Burmecian muttered as Asher smirked.

“Of course. The blade is made of orichalcum and the rest of one of the best metals we have.” He crossed his arms and frown slightly. “However... the blade might not brake but the rest might if you bash it around too hard. Be careful.”

“Asher...” I said quietly and his hazel eyes flickered to me. “I LURVE YOU!” I leaped at him and he fell back, me with him. “Now I won't lose for sure! I'm saved!”

“Wait, what are you talking about?” Cody said, coming out of the back room with Espio. “Saved from what?”

“Well,” I got off of Asher and dusted myself off. “I have a bet with Zidane. If I win, he can't date for a month. If he wins, I have to do anything he says for a mouth.”

“WHAT?!”

“What?!”

“You're approving of this?” The green haired man asked as I glared slightly at Freya.

“If she helped me a bit I won't have this stupid bet.” I stuck out my tongue at her and she shook her head. “No, but if I didn't taunt him too, it won't have happened either.”

“Man, I would be scared if I was you...” The brunt shuddered as I took out the list Zane gave me.

“I am, look.” Asher took the paper from my hand and the three of them read it.

“I'll kill him.” The black haired boy crumpled the paper and clenched his fist.

“Oh, shit...” Cody muttered.

“Miss. Heartilly...” Espio said a little worried.

“But you guys helped Freya to win for sure!” I smiled at them. “How much to I owe you?”

“Nothing.” Asher said, making everyone looked at him surprised except Freya. “Just don't lose, Miss. Crescent.” His eyes narrowed at her and she smirked.

“Of course not.”

`She's up to something...'

==========================================

“It's pretty late...” I muttered, looking up at the night sky. “Time to check out my skills!”

Every night, I would usually go out and fight some monsters. Why? So I won't become so fat lazy princess. Not like I don't do it, I will become one but I mean I gotta keep my mad skills up, no?

“Princess Rinoa, out again?” A guard smiled at me as I grinned.

“I won't take long, don't worry.” I walked past him and towards the outside.

I always like the outside. It had the fresh smell of the ocean, since we were kinda close. Even though the mist covers the lower lands. I don't really go places, my father being scared unless some one I know is with me. Like Zidane or Cody or Asher or Espio or Freya. I really want to see the world for what it is but I have this unsure feeling.

Why?

Well, recently... I've been hearing things at night but the thing is I only hear them, no one else. Everyone says I'm crazy or stop joking. I'm not! It sounds a cry, or a moan. It sounds like it's in pain. It's really loud sometimes that I can't even sleep. But the cry makes me depress, like we have a connection and I can feel it's sorrow and pain.

I'm weird I know.

“CAAA!”

“Huh?!” I turned around to see a Axe Beak, a bird that can drill a whole through me if I let it. “Hey, birdie! Bring it on!” I grinned as I saw it's eyes glow red. My weapons are two long steel chains.

Yep, you can guess Zidane little comment on that.

“CAAA!” It charged at me from the air and spun my whip around, picking up speed. I jumped away from it's attack and smirked.

“Gotta be quicker than that, birdie!” I threw my whip at it and hit it's wing, causing it to make a loud screech. I landed on the ground and covered my ears. “Shut up!” I snapped and threw my chain at it again, but it hit something else.

...Shit.

A Carve spider blocked the attack on the bird. Even monsters help each other?

Ah... never mind.

It just ate the bird. Damn that sucks.

The spider turned to me and let out a roar and started to spit something at me. I rolled away and looked at the spot I was at.

A Web...

It called out again and I flipped away from it. I took out a black and purple eye cover and placed it around my neck. Slowly, I pulled it over my eyes and I could see everything about the monster.

Cool, huh? The three guys made it for me one day. Cost me a lot but it was worth it.

“Time to end this, spidie!” I spun my chains around as they were engulfed into a flame. “Chains of Flame!” I lashed them at it and it squealed in pain. It disappeared into a red blood and it dried into the floor. I smiled and pulled off my eye cover. Some one breathed in my ear and my eyes widen.

“Hey, wanna have some fun?”
