Final Fantasy - All Series Fan Fiction ❯ Yin and Yang ❯ First Breath ( Prologue )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Intro

The moon lit up the entire thick forest. The trees glittered and sparkled in the silver moonbeams. The soft grass on the path whispered a chant in the light wind. The soothing sound of a rushing brook could be heard off in the distance. Vincent failed to hear or see any of its beauty.

He walked at a fast pace, almost jogging. A bulging backpack rested on his back, slung over his broad shoulders, stuffed with his cloak, which he had shed long ago. <I> He slowed down to peel off his black t-shirt, balancing the backpack on one shoulder, then switching it over again. He threw the shirt aside into the brush. His pale skin glowed in the moonlight. Without looking back, Vincent began to run through the beautiful Sleeping Forest, heading towards the mysterious City of the Ancients.

The normally calm and clear pool in front of the shell building was bubbling and frothing wildly. A pale green glow of light shined up from deep beneath the water. Down below, a body preserved in a green barrier stirred. Her eyes fluttered open, and green orbs peered out into a green tinted world. Without warning, the green bubble shattered, and the woman closed her eyes against the harsh sting of the water. She went to take a breath, and ended up with a mouthful of water. She tried to cough, frantically kicking up to the surface. Her oxygen was running out. Everything was beginning to turn a lovely shade of gray...

Vincent reached the edge of the water, skidding to a stop. He threw his bag to the ground and dove in, opening his eyes once under the clear water. Searching frantically, his eyes stopped on a lifeless body suspended in the water. He swam to her quickly, and grabbing her body to his chest, he swam toward surface. He laid the girl's fragile body on the grass, and checked her for breath. Her chest was still and her skin was a palling gray. Vincent took a deep breath, and opened her mouth, lowering his own to her. He exhaled into her lungs, proceeding to pump on her chest hard. He inhaled again, and exhaled into her mouth. The woman began to cough and sputter into his mouth. He moved away, watching the girl take her first breath in almost two years. His eyes rested on her long chestnut hair, her beautiful round face.

"Aeris..." He whispered gently. She gazed at him with her emerald eyes.

End.
