Chapter 3: Grieving in Secret

I hug Max back; I can not bear to see someone cry for someone they hold so dear," Max, you're making me cry," I said as I joined him. We must've stayed there for the longest time as Sir Gilliam was outside. Maybe he wanted to cry too. Only if I had paid more attention to mother.....That's why I cry.

A cleric came in an hour after her bleeding. She said that she would still be alive but she couldn't go to the battlefield, ever. Her wound was quite vital, it left a vital scar on my heart. I felt some joy to see she was still alive; she's strong. Max and I headed to the village to find supplies and food for us. The UMTM needed us in another battle but they gave us time to say our goodbyes; they also mentioned it was risky. As the both of us were wondering around, I noticed Max wasn't really talking.

" Um..." I said as I broke the silence between us.

" Yes?" he asked.

" I was... wondering," I said nervously," Would you do anything to kill for a good laugh?"

" What do you mean?" he asked me. Five minutes later, we were near a lake while I took out a fire book," What are you going to do?"

I looked at him and smiled," A little magic trick," I was reading the book with one hand as the other was slowly had fire right on top of it. I held the fire next to my hand as he slowly got close to me. Right when his face was aligned with the fire, I blew the fire away and the black smoke went towards both of us. I caught him in surprise. Our faces were black as I continued smiling. I stuck my tongue right at him as he started to laugh.

" That's it!" Max said," You're going to get it!" He started to chase me as we ran around in circles around the lake. Somehow, we both ended up in the lake, splashing each other. At the end, we laying on the grass, soaked and tired, and still laughing," Man, my stomach hurts from all this laughing," he said as he was still laughing.

" It was worth it," I said laughing. We both stared at the sky for 10 minutes," Don't you think we'll catch a cold out here? I can worry your father."

" You're right," he said as he stood up. He offered his hand in front of me," Come on, Jira. We still need to get the supplies," I got his hand he helped me get up.

" Where have you two been?" Sir Gilliam was interrogating the both of us," Does it take you 2 hours to get the supplies? And why are you two wet?"

" We were--," Max started until I decided to explain.

" Shopping!" I said in excitement.

Max stared at me and Sir Gilliam walked closer to me," How do you explain your wet clothes?"

Me and my imaginative mind came up with something uncommon," There a Mage who was performing magic. For one of his acts, he did a wet show."

" Why didn't you move out of the way?" he asked me again.

" Because you know how tiring it is," said Max.

Gilliam turned his back against us," I am only asking because your mother would do the same."

I admit that there are times when I go out of control that I don't know what I'm doing by just hearing something that has so much meaning. I ran outside the hospital, in tears. She may not be my mother and I hadn't really known her, but I can't stand someone who was so sincere being in so much pain. I ran into the mountains of Carcino, tripping along the way. I got myself up and continued running. I stopped when I saw a strange figure appear, like the thing I saw when I was running to see Max. Motionless, I stood there until it revealed itself completely.

" AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!"
