Chapter 2: Falling Through a Mist

Daniel appeared a few feet above the ground. He landed in a heap. “Hmenafuginingroun,” he muttered. He raised his head up and looked around at his surroundings. He appeared to be in a forest.
Small bundles of fungi were scattered across the ground. A squirrel stared at him inquisitively. “ So… Did I make it?” he asked under his breath. He began to get up when something stopped him.
He could he someone singing beautifully in the distance. Wanting to find people, Daniel pursued the sound of the person's voice. As he walked towards the voice, Daniel drifted in and out of sleep. “Why is the jetlag finally catching up to me?” he asked himself. He fell forwards onto something hard.

Mist rode her horse slowly through the woods. She took time to gaze at the different flora. It was only a year after the defeat of Ashnard. Mist had just turned 15 no longer that a few weeks ago. Her brother was18 going on 19. She had become lonely ever since most of the mercenaries had split up.
The original mercenaries had stayed in Crimea to work for Princess Elincia. A few of the first recruits and some others had stayed as well. The rest had gone back to their own countries after Ashnard's rein had ended.
Sighing to herself, she had her horse halt at a small clearing. She tied her horse up and removed her basket from the horse. She headed towards a patch of spices. They would help her make dinner for that night. She carefully picked spices from the patch and placed them in her basket. As she worked, she began to sing the heron's song.
After a few minutes, she heard movement from the woods to the left of her. She looked up just as a young man appeared. It was only a moment before he fell on top of her. She cried out in surprise. She fell to the ground with him on top of her. She managed to get a good look at the young man. He was unconscious. Worse, his head was between her breasts. She managed to nudge his head off of her boobs.
Mist blushed as she tried to figure out how to get the boy off of her. After a while of struggling, Mist managed to roll out from underneath the lad. Mist rolled him onto his back. He appeared to be 2 or 3 years older than her. He had short, red hair that came down in spikes. It was now that Mist realized that the young man was asleep, not unconscious.
Mist was unsure of what to do with him. She couldn't bring him home on her horse because he might fall off. She'd just have to wait for him to awaken. She was curious as to why he'd fallen asleep in the woods.

Daniel groaned. What the hell happened, he thought unhappily. Mist looked up from her sword practicing. She sheathed the sword and walked to the man. “Are you feeling better?” She asked politely.
Daniel looked around him and then looked at her. “I feel fine, but… what happened?”
“I was hoping that you could tell me,” Mist replied. “I was minding my own business when suddenly a boy falls on top of me, and then, he falls asleep.”
Didn't Uncle say that the machine would give me new memories? Maybe those could help me now… he thought. “Let me think…” he said. After a moment he continued, “I haven't had much sleep recently.”
“Why is that?” Mist asked.
Daniel didn't seem to hear her. He gazed at her for a moment. “Do I know you?” the asked. “You look familiar…”
Mist replied, “You don't look familiar to me. My name is Mist.”
Daniel's new and old memories screamed out at him. “Mist? Mist, as in the sister of Lord Ike, Mist?” he asked bewildered.
“Yes,” She replied blushing. People didn't usually know about her.
Dan's new memories seared at his mind. “You must take me to your brother. I must warn him of something,” he said.
“I guess you can see him,” Mist replied. “You can walk beside my horse as I return home.” Daniel gave Mist a peck on the cheek which she blushed at.
“Thanks for all of the help,” he said smiling.
