Chapter 1 - Meeting
Back at camp, Nephenee started to think.
What have I gotten myself into? What if I can't live up to the laguz's high expectations? I mean, I can't fight as well as they can…
What have I gotten myself into? What if I can't live up to the laguz's high expectations? I mean, I can't fight as well as they can…
A girl coming into her tent interrupted her thoughts.
"Wha? Who…who are you??"
The figure stopped, and gave out a loud purr.
"Relax. It's Lethe. They said you'd be in here. General Ike really knows you well."
Nephenee breathed a sigh of relief.
"I thought y'all were some sort of laguz traitor…"

Lethe let out a small laugh.
”Come on, I'm not that shallow. Anyway. What I'm here to talk about with you is my sister.”
”Ummm. Who?”

”Ummm. Who?”
Lethe sighed, and shook her head.
“Lyre, stupid! Can't you see the resemblance?”
“I, I'm sorry. Still trying to recover from you startling me.”
Nephenee started playing with her long green hair, but this couldn't hide the frustration on her face.
Damn. Come on. They look so similar!
Lethe sat down on one of the crates inside Nephenee's tent.

Lethe sat down on one of the crates inside Nephenee's tent.
"So. You want to team up with my sister for the next fight."
Nephenee flinched, but continued playing with her hair.
"Well, that was my intention."
"Listen. Take care of her. I don't have anyone else left. If I lost her…I don't know what I'd do."
Nephenee felt herself nodding in agreement. She too, had no-one else to go to, and knew exactly how Lethe felt.

"Listen, Lethe. I won't let anyone die. I don't think General Ike would let anyone die, either."
Lethe wiped a small tear from the corner of her eye.
Lethe wiped a small tear from the corner of her eye.
"Thanks."
Lethe got up, and made to walk towards the door of her tent.
"Lethe, wait."
She turned around.
"Hmm? What?"
"I know exactly how you feel; I've had no-one since I was about 7. However, when Brom, you know him? Took me under his wing for a bit, I felt like I could actually belong, rather than just be shunned all my life. Remember, you used to feel the same, when we first allied with y'all?"
Lethe stopped in her tracks, dropped her head, and clenched her fists.

Lethe stopped in her tracks, dropped her head, and clenched her fists.
But, it wasn't maliciously, it was like someone was re-bringing up a painful memory, that you swore you'd forget. When she finally spoke, her voice was shaky.
"Thank you, Neph. Just take care of my sister, 'kay?"
This time, she stormed out of the tent, wiping more tears from her eyes.

Poor girl. She only has her sister.
But, despite this, Nephenee couldn't help but feeling a little jealous.
I wish I had someone. Someone who could trust, even…love me…

Nephenee sighed, picked up the lance at her feet, and walked out of her tent.
Might as well go and join the feast. Won't do me any good moping around here.

Nephenee's stomach started rumbling.
Definitely won't do me any good. I haven't eaten anything since this morning.
She started to head towards the biggest tent, stumbling her way around.
The dark didn't help her visibility, but from the figures inside the tent, she could tell it was the main feast.
"So, what are you doing out here then, Nephenee?"

"So, what are you doing out here then, Nephenee?"
A dark figure was leant against the poles of the tent she had just walked past.
"Sh-Shinon? What are ya doing here? Shouldn't you be in the feast?"
"Sh-Shinon? What are ya doing here? Shouldn't you be in the feast?"
Shinon laughed.
"I could say the same to you. What are you doing out here?"
Nephenee muttered a silent curse. After all, he was out here first.
"I just needed some time to think for myself before I went to the feast, that's all."
Shinon let out a small laugh. It made Nephenee shiver.
Shinon let out a small laugh. It made Nephenee shiver.
"I saw that laguz girl come out of your tent. What were you talking about?"
Nephenee grasped her lance even tighter.
"You…you saw that?"
"Of course. I can see everything that goes on in this miserable little camp."
That made sense, Nephenee thought. He'd need good eyes to be that good an archer, for sure.

Nephenee pointed her lance at Shinon.
"What were you doing out here, then? Your circumstances are suspicious, at the least."
"Please." Shinon didn't even look phased that Nephenee had pointed a lance straight at his head.
"I just needed a breather. Also, I need to look over this stupid bastard."
Shinon kicked something at his feet. It groaned.

Nephenee recoiled in shock.
"What in the goddess' name?"
"Boyd had a bit too much to drink. Just look at him now. Pathetic."
"What in the goddess' name?"
"Boyd had a bit too much to drink. Just look at him now. Pathetic."
Shinon kicked him again.
Nephenee turned to walk toward the main tent.
"Hey."
"Hey."
Nephenee turned.
"What?"
"Be careful. I think there are more than a few traitors in this camp. Especially those laguz. I don't trust them."
"Thanks, I'll bear that in mind."
Nephenee walked towards the main tent, pushed the flap of the tent back, and walked in.

Shinon smirked. "She's a fool. Teaming up with those cats."
Boyd groaned from the floor again.
Shinon sighed.
"Come on, you. Let's get you back to your tent."
"Come on, you. Let's get you back to your tent."
