Tooru couldn't help but wonder why Shigure acted so weird as she stirred the stew for Kyo's lunch. She got a frightened feeling in her stomach when she remembered the dark look in his eyes as he had stared at her, but not seeing.
She turned the burner on low to let the stew simmer, as she made her mind up to go to Shigure's study.
With a concerned frown on her face, she turned to march to Shigure and see what was wrong. Walking down the hall, her resolve faltered momentarily as she realized how forward she was being. Before she knew what she was doing, she was standing in front of the study door with her hand poised to knock.
Nervously, she cleared her throat. She realized that she had not prepared anything to say to him, when he did open the door. She stopped, her hand still raised in midair. In fear, she turned to leave.
Suddenly the door opened, and Shigure poked his head out of the door, his face level with Tooru's. His eyes were wide with surprise, but not as wide as hers.
"Yes, Tooru-kun?"
She watched Shigure's eyes, as they turned from aloof to the same shade of dark as they were before. She panicked a little bit as she was only able to stammer.
"A-a-a Nothing Shigure-san! I was only concerned because of how you were earlier."
Shigure saw his opportunity and jumped at it.
"How I was? How was I?" He smirked.
Tooru turned 3 different shades of embarrassed as she blushed at his open-ended response.
"Well, Shigure-san walked into the kitchen, and I was wondering if you were feeling all right? You seemed to walk with a limp, when you left."
Shigure frowned thoughtfully to Tooru, but inwardly, he was crowing loudly. She had taken his bait. Slowly, he took her hand and started to pull her into his study.
"Do you want to know why I was limping, Tooru-kun?" He tried to say this innocently, but he was certain that it sounded slimy.
"Ha-hai! If there is something that I can do for Shigure-san, I will do it. Because Shigure-san has let me live here without paying rent. I want to repay Shigure-san's kindnesses." Tooru's eyes were wide with worry.
Shigure couldn't help but ask, "I have a knot, can Tooru-kun get it out?"
Tooru nodded her determination to help. Shigure smirked. Carefully, he pulled Tooru inside of his study, closing the door behind them. He leaned against the door, and soundlessly locked it.
Tooru became somewhat uneasy as she noticed that Shigure-san's eyes once again turned that scary dark shade again. He licked his lips as he came towards her.
She didn't know why, but she got a horrible feeling in her stomach as she watched him approach, more like a lion than like a friend.
Shigure walked up to where she stood and met her toe-to-toe as he looked down at her.
Suddenly she bowled over in pain. Shigure's expression turned from one of darkness to one of shock and surprise.
"Tooru-kun! What's wrong?" He leaned in front of her, trying to determine why her face was scrunched in excruciating pain.
"i-iie, I'm just not..." Her words trailed off as she fell forward.
Shigure jumped closer to her, and very carefully caught her on his forearms.
He didn't transform.
Dragging her weight from the study into the living area, he set her down on the sofa very carefully as he went to the phone on instinct.
"Ha-san! Tooru's fainted." He paused listening to the response from the other end. "Uh-huh......yes....that's fine.... wakatta.... hai!"
Shigure went back to Tooru to check on her. Placing his hand on her forehead, he realized that she was running a slight fever, but nothing too serious.
Even though he was still looking at Tooru with concern, inside he was fuming. This meant that Hatori would be here sooner...and *he* would lose his chance at getting to Tooru first.
"Damn it all..." He muttered underneath his breath.
