Both boy’s entered the house once again, arms filled with bags and bags. And once again, no one was home.
“Well, I guess we should wrap these ne? I bought wrapping paper, we can go to my room and wrap the gifts.” Yuki suggested, ascending the stairs.
Kyou shook his head, and with a whispered ‘kuso nezumi’ followed Yuki into his room.
~Flashback~
“Kyou! Look, my kaasan made us dinner, she said you could sleep over tonight again, do you want to?” A younger Yuki cheerfully asked. He looked to be around the age of 6 or so.
“Sure. I’ll be there at 6, by Yuki.” A younger Kyou said cheerfully, as he walked back towards Kazuma’s part of the Sohma compound. Not aware of the pair of cold eye’s that watched him, watched him smile. They watched him and Yuki play together, smile together...And the owner of the eyes knew how close the boys were...The rat and cat? Friends?! No, it was wrong, he had to fix it. The mouse was his, his alone...
~End Flashback~
“Yeah! I told you 3 times already, Tohru will like it kuso nezumi!” Kyou yelled as Yuki wrapped Tohru’s present. Yuki’s love for Tohru, slowly and gradually went away, sure he still cared for her deeply, but he knew they couldn’t have a real relationship. Thinking back on how Kana felt, how broken she was...He just couldn’t let that happen for her.
“Hmm, well. I’m done wrapping everything, what about you? What’s in that bag?” Yuki asked as he reached for the bag that held Kyou’s present, Kyou leaped forward, guarding the bag with his life.
“Kuso nezumi! Stop being so nosy!” He yelled out, stomping out of the room, and into his own.
Yuki was still in the same position, his hand reaching out towards the bag that was gone, he blinked once, twice and put his hand down, reaching under the bed and pulling out a bag, the bag that held Kyou’s present.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
‘Kuso nezumi...I’m nice enough to get him something, and he has to be nosy?’ Kyou asked himself as he sighed, pulling out a frame, the same color as Yuki’s eyes, and in an envelope was a restored picture he guarded in his wallet a bit bigger, and the color fully there.
He carefully put the picture in the frame. And put the older on back in his wallet.
Yuki would definitely be surprised. He probably forgot all about that picture, all about that day...The day the picture was taken, was the day that they’d loose eachother forever. Yes, Kyou remembered it well.
~Flashback~
The doorbell rang, and a hyper Yuki ran towards the door and opened it. Kyou was standing there, holding his stuff. Yuki smiled and helped Kyou bring his stuff to Yuki’s room. They ran into the kitchen together, holding hands. Innocently, the way small children do.
“You two are simply adorable, smile. I want to take a picture!” Yukino, Yuki’s mother said as she reached for a camera. Both boy’s froze, as the camera flashed. Suddenly, there was a knock at the door, causing all three to look towards it. Yukino walked up to the door and opened it. There stood Akito and Kureno, Kagura not far behind.
~End Flashback~
Yuki sighed, starring at the restored picture. The same one Kyou had restored, only a separate one. Neither boy’s knew that the other kept their own picture close to them. Both thought the other didn’t remember, or threw it out.
Ha...How wrong they are ne?
“I wonder if he’ll remember that day. The day we lost eachother as friends. I can remember it so clearly.
~Flashback~
“Akito-sama, Kureno, Kagura? What are you doing here?” Yukino asked, both boy’s behind her were starring at the three people, Yuki standing a bit behind Kyou, because of his fear of Akito.
“Yukino, It has come to my attention, to our attention that those two have become way to close.” Akito said, letting himself in. Kureno and Kagura followed, closing the door behind them.
“So? They’re friends!” Yukino said.
“I know, but they’re the rat and cat. They shouldn’t be friends. And I’m here to break up their friendship.”
“No!” Kyou and Yuki yelled.
“You have no say in this! Kureno, take Kyou home...I’ll be there to talk to him after I’m done with Yuki.” Akito said, Kureno left with a struggling Kyou, and a seemingly happy Kagura.
“Akito-sama, who care’s if they’re friends? Didn’t you here about the last two rat and cat?” Yukino said, Yuki had no clue what she was talking about.
“No! I won’t allow it! And I won’t allow you to get in the way. You’re banished, you’re banished from here. You’re memories will be erased, and you won’t remember any of this!” Akito yelled out in fury. For a 9 year old, he was surprisingly mature.
And in the background, unnoticed stood a 16 year old Ayame...
“No! Akito, please don’t!” Yuki yelled out. His mother, she loved him so much. She didn’t want her gone.
“You have no say in this either! I think I need to teach you a lesson Yuki.” Akito said as he slap Yuki, causing the boy to fall to the ground.
All seemed to go downhill from there. Yukino’s memories were erased, and she left. Ayame now hated his little brother because he blamed the lose of their mother on him. Akito now hit him, whipped him. And tortured the young boy constantly. Telling him stories on how much he should hate the cat.
Kyou’s mother committed suicide, people blamed him for his mother’s death, ridiculed him for being the cat. Kagura always yelled at him, saying how he should hate the mouse, and how he should love her.
And it was then, that they started hating eachother. Started fighting...
“Baka neko!”
“Kuso nezumi!”
~End Flashback~
Both boy’s stood in their rooms, photo in hand as the memories of their broken friendship filled their minds.
It wasn’t even their fault. It was no one’s fault but Akito, for being so stupid and greedy. Why had he broken them up? Why!?
They both looked at their door, remembering who made them become friends in the first place...
It was Ayame.
