Tohru lay in bed thinking back to the day of the endurance run, she didn’t even know why. She was still recovering from the incidents with Kyo and of course the fateful encounter at the main estate with Akito, she hadn’t even left her room to make dinner for everyone yet. She was worried about Yuki, now Tohru was the first to admit that she could be a little (ooooor maybe a lot) slow sometimes but she could tell he was hurting. They all were. She heaved a sigh, she had chosen Kyo but hadn’t told him that yet. She stifled a giggle, Kyo could be even more clueless than she was sometimes. Yuki knew though and his smiles didn’t reach his eyes any more. And then there was Hatsuharu… The writers really glossed over the whole ‘first love’ thing, Tohru thought.
After the endurance run when Yuki was sick, Haru watched over him all night. She had walked by multiple times to see him sitting against the door frame in that punk way that he had. But you could tell he really cared especially after the story he told her about he and Yuki and even more so in the flash of hurt in his eyes when Yuki brushed him off. Tohru had been trying to wait up to in case he needed some soup or anything at all, she had been nodding off just a little bit when Haru tapped on her open door. Yuki’s fever was gone and he was heading back to the main estate. How would things be now if Tohru hadn’t offered to accompany him home, all the while babbling that it was no trouble. Well for one he might not have made it home for another few days, they walked in silence for a while.
“I’m trying to be thankful to you,” Haru said with a feigned disinterested tone. Tohru just looked at him in confusion so he continued, “He’s happy now. I told you I’ve never seen him smile like he does around you. I still love him but… I couldn’t protect him or make him as happy as you do. Please just take good care of him.” At this time they reached the leering front gate of the main Sohma estate. Tohru had been too stunned to say anything coherent so Haru left her standing on the path with her thoughts.
Since then she watched them more closely when they thought no one else was looking, she had even seen Haru lean in and kiss Yuki right on the lips once! Yuki hadn’t pulled away but he did blush profusely and storm out afterwards. But there was a tenderness in the way Yuki looked at Haru sometimes, an easy comfort that they shared. They would be so cute together! Tohru wished she could have told Haru that she didn’t like Yuki that way, she wished she could’ve told Yuki too… Coming out of the memory back to her bedroom still struck dumb in the aftermath of everything, she wished she could stop babbling and just tell people what she felt.
She pounded a fist into her other hand. She WOULD help them, everything would turn out okay if it was the last thing she did!
