Haru was sitting in the grass alone. This had been common practice for him over the last year, he was lonely but wasn’t seeing Yuki happy the most important thing? He was grateful to Tohru for making him smile again, and she was sort of cute in her own way. She was better for Yuki than he was, Haru told himself for what must’ve been the hundredth time, Haru didn’t deserve to get the guy. So he picked up scraps, stole the occasional kiss, and altogether basked in the prince’s presence whenever he could.
He would normally alternate between gooey romantic, self-deprecating, and self-pitying thoughts. But today was different, he had just gotten an unexpected call from Tohru herself. It had taken her a while to actually get the whole story out but now that he knew… it had changed everything for him. Yuki might actually be mine, he thought reverently. He had always loved Yuki, the perfectly RIGHT feeling he got whenever they were together and the swan-sized butterflies that tickled in his stomach whenever they touched. Now that he thought he had a chance, nothing would stop them from being together. He was sure of it!
Winter break from school was over on Monday, he had one weekend left of blissfully free time. And so Haru concocted a plan…
Yuki had been sulking, his normal perfect calm exterior was exuding an awful miasma of the pain that he was suffering. He’d really thought he loved her. The stupid cat didn’t even know yet, what was so good about that idiot anyways? At least the household apart from himself was out today. Tohru was out with Kyo, no doubt trying to muster up the courage to tell him how she felt. Shigure was with his brother, and the longer the better with those two Yuki thought. He slumped down on the couch but as always was too polite to put his feet up on the table, even if no one was watching. He was lonely even after he thought he was passed feeling much of anything. It was all that stupid cat’s fault.
Haru had been about to knock on the door to Shigure’s house when he heard a bang. Tohru had been kind enough to let him know that Yuki would be the only one home today, Haru suddenly felt an evil smirk boiling up from his belly and images of what he could do to Yuki flew through his mind. NOT NOW! Haru pushed the black side down, more easily than he thought it’d be. Looks like both of his natures knew that comforting Yuki was the priority today. He took a deep breath and knocked on the door.
Yuki’s eyes were red and his face looked thin and as always, much too serious.
“What do you want, Haru?” Yuki asked in a low voice.
“Aw, only to cheer you up cousin,” Haru said with a grin that made Yuki very uneasy and… something else too. He clung to Yuki’s shirt as he leaned in almost enough for their noses to touch, he could see Yuki’s pupils dilate and feel the other boy’s breathing quicken. Haru pressed their chests together and smiled even wider when Yuki didn’t push him away.
Yuki’s heart was beating at a rapidfire pace, he should pull away he knew he should. But this felt so good to swoon into Haru’s chest, No he told himself. I’ve been a little lonely, that’s all this is. Still, he couldn’t help leaning forward enough to cuddle his face into the other boy’s chest. Haru was giddy with delight and trying to hold back the urge to yank Yuki’s chin up and kiss him. However, the urge was short lived as Yuki suddenly slumped unconscious into Haru’s arms. But Haru just smiled and lifted his older cousin easily in his arms, Yuki was so little. He had a fierce, calm presence when awake and staring at you with those gorgeous purple eyes. But like this, he looked like a beautiful broken doll. Haru adjusted Yuki in his arms and carried him up to his room.
Laying Yuki on the bed, he rolled onto his heels and watched his sleeping love. Yuki’s eyelashes were so long for a guys, his hair was so pretty and soft… Haru ran a hand through Yuki’s hair and then down his cheek to finally rest on where his pulse beat in his slender neck. Haru stared at the spot fixedly, and then everything went black.
