Fruits Basket Fan Fiction ❯ East Side, West Side ❯ Rain, Rain ( Chapter 3 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Here’s chapter three! Whee! Guess what! This is the chapter where the families have their first little collision. Well, more like second, seeing as the first was kinda explained in the last chapter. But yeah. Still don’t own Fruits Basket! Or Peter Pan and Wendy!

----

“Kyou! Play with me!” Kasumi whined.

“Play? Are you out of your mind?” Kyou asked, looking to Kasumi with another one of his annoyed looks. Three days already. He’d put up with her for three days and she still annoyed him to no end.

“Maybe. Come on! Play with me!” She whined again.

“Play what, exactly? You’re fifteen-years-old! What exactly do you ‘play’?” He questioned.

“Hide ‘n Seek!” Kasumi smiled playfully.

“...No.”

“Aw, but Kyou!”

“Kasumi, grow up!”

“Never! I shall go to Neverland and never grow up! With Peter Pan and Wendy!”

“...You’ve lost it.”

“Lost what?”

“Scratch that. You never had it.”

“Kyoooooou!”

“Just get lost!”

“Awwww...” Kasumi walked out of the room. I’ll show you ‘get lost’. She slightly narrowed her eyes and walked outside. “I’ll go for a little walk.”

“Sachiko, I’m gonna go for a walk. Explore around a little bit.” Kippei announced as he headed for the door.

“Alright, Kippei.” Sachiko called from the kitchen. “Take an umbrella, I think it’s supposed to rain today. And don’t get lost. If you’re not back in two hours, I’m sending a search party.”

Kippei laughed. “Alright. I’ll be back later.” He grabbed an umbrella and walked out.

“We’ve been here for three days now. Why does he want to suddenly go exploring now?” Sachiko asked herself out loud as she looked through the cabinets. “Mizuko! Where’s the mustard?”

“What for?” Mizuko walked into the kitchen and grabbed a bag of chips.

“I’ve run out of yellow paint.” Sachiko smiled.

Mizuko walked out without a word.

“I was kidding! I’m gonna make something to snack on!” Sachiko called.

“The fridge, you idiot! On the shelf!” Mizuko called back.

“Oh, right.” Sachiko smiled, going to the fridge. She got the mustard out of the fridge and looked around sneakily. She snickered to herself and headed out of the kitchen, mustard in hand.

“Your ‘snack’ is not in your studio.” Mizuko said, leaning against the wall next to the kitchen entrance as Sachiko tried to sneak away.

“But...sister! My art! It shall be left unfinished!”

“It’s not fair that you can still work and I can’t, even though I want to.”

“But I do wanna work!”

Mizuko took the mustard from Sachiko’s hands and headed back into the kitchen.

“Agh, I shoulda brung an umbrella.” Kasumi said to herself as the rain started to pour down. “Oh yes, ‘I’ll show you get lost’. What the hell was I thinking? Now I really am lost.”

A car quickly passed by, going through a puddle of water. The water seemed to jump out of the way onto the sidewalk.

“Lucky me, I’m on the opposite sidewalk.” Kasumi sighed as she watched from across the street. She looked forward, spotting a small roof that extended over a store that she could hide under. The store was closed, but at least she could hide under the roof. She shivered and shook some of the water from her hair. I’ll just have to wait until the rain stops. Or at least lightens up a bit. Woah, head rush! She suddenly became dizzy from shaking her head so hard. “Wait a minute, who’s that?” She asked aloud as she saw someone walking down the street, heading her way.

“Aunt Sachiko was right.” Kippei said to himself as he walked down the street, the umbrella over his head. “And it’s coming down pretty hard.”

The umbrella gave him a lot of protection from the rain, but he was still getting a little wet from the sides. At least the rain wasn’t coming down hard enough to penetrate the umbrella, but still...

Maybe I should head home. He thought. He smiled lightly to himself. What’s this? Calling this place ‘home’? Home’s in America, Kippei. The rain’s getting to me. I’d better get...now just wait a second. He blinked as he saw a girl around his age, hiding from the rain underneath the roof of a closed store. “I’ve seen her somewhere, but where?”

The girl was staring right at him, but turned her gaze away quickly after he looked back at her.

Don’t stare, Kassie. It’s rude to stare. Kasumi averted her eyes away from the boy down the street.

Now he was only a few feet away from her and coming closer.

Maybe he’ll just pass by and continue on his way. Kasumi thought. Or maybe he’s some perverted freak that’s gonna kidnap me and...do stuff! Ooh! I knew I shouldn’t have left the house.

“Excuse me.” The boy said as he approached.

Kasumi jumped at the sound of his voice and looked at him. His voiced sounded familiar to her from somewhere. “Er...um...hi!” She smiled.

“Do I know you from somewhere?” He asked, blinking.

“Not that I know of. I don’t live here, I’m just visiting.” Kasumi said quickly.

“Me too.” He said. “I’m Kippei. Kippei Okurimono.”

“Kasumi Sohma.” Kasumi smiled.

“Wait a minute...you’re that girl from the airport!” Kippei smiled lightly.

“Airport...? Oh! You’re that boy I bumped into! I thought your last name sounded familiar. I think it was your cousin or someone who said it.” Kasumi smiled back.

“What’d they look like?” Kippei asked.

“Black hair, brown eyes. I bumped into her too while I was rushing past them.”

“Oh, that was my sister, Kokoro. She’s the only one of the girls with black hair and brown eyes.”

“Oh.”

“So what are you doing out here in the rain? And without an umbrella.”

“I...didn’t expect for it to rain.”

“You’re soaked. You’ll catch a cold, you know. Why don’t you come back with me to my place, maybe you’ll fit into some of my sister’s clothes, or Ariel’s.”

“Um...” Kasumi gulped. Back to his place? I barely met the guy! Should I go?

Kippei laughed lightly as if reading Kasumi’s expression. “Don’t worry. I’m not gonna do anything to you. I promise, just get you a change of clothes and maybe you can hang out there until the rain clears out. It’s not too far from here.”

“Well, I’m sure I can make it back to Shigure’s if I...no, I can’t. I’ll will be completely soaked by then.” Kasumi sighed.

“Come on. Trust me.” He smiled, holding out his hand.. He had a friendly smile, one that Kasumi couldn’t resist.

“Okay...” Kasumi nodded, taking his hand. She stood next to him under his umbrella and walked with him back to his house.

“We’re back!” Kippei called out as he entered the house and put the umbrella next to the door. He slipped off his shoes and walked further inside. “Aunt Sachiko? Aunt Mizuko?”

“Kippei-oniichan!” Hinako ran over and hugged Kippei tightly. “Sachiko said she was already about to send out the search parties! She was so worried!”

“I’d only been gone for not even an hour.” Kippei laughed, knowing Sachiko had been joking. But, as always, Hinako took it a little too seriously.

“Kippei-oniichan? Who’s that?” Hinako asked, pointing to Kasumi.

“Don’t point, Hinako. It’s rude.” Kippei ruffled her hair. “This is Kasumi Sohma. A...friend, I guess you could say.” He looked to Kasumi.

“Yeah, a friend.” Kasumi smiled.

“Hinako, why don’t you go show Kasumi your toys while I get her some clothes from Kokoro’s room to change in?” Kippei suggested.

“‘Kay!” Hinako nodded. She took hold of Kasumi’s hand and led her into her room. “Come on! I got lots of toys!”

“Okay.” Kasumi laughed lightly, following Hinako.

Kippei headed for Kokoro and Torrence’s room. He went in and walked over to Kokoro’s dresser, rummaging through her shirt drawer.

“You let an outsider into the house?” Kokoro asked from the doorway.

“That’s the girl that I bumped into at the airport, Kokoro.” Kippei said, not even bothering to turn around.

“‘Hey Kokoro, can I borrow some of your clothes to let this girl wear because she’s completely soaked from the rain?’ Sure, Kippei. Thanks for asking. You’re such a considerate little brother.” Kokoro rolled her eyes.

“Thanks for your consent.” Kippei shrugged, picking out a shirt.

“You’re such a brat.” Kokoro glared.

“You’re the one that said ‘Sure, Kippei,’.” Kippei got out a pair of jeans from one of Kokoro’s other drawers.

“Yes, and just take a random shirt and jeans that may just happen to be my favorite. But hey, you don’t know. You don’t even care.”

“Okay, nope, and nope.”

“I hate you.”

“I know.” Kippei walked out of the room, past Kokoro, and to Hinako’s room with the clothes in hand.

Well? How’d you like the third chapter? Yeah, I know, it was basically surrounding my characters and not the show characters, but it was just this one chapter. Just to get the meeting out of the way. Opinions?
