“Oh, you left?” Shigure asked as Kasumi entered the house. “Sorry, I didn’t notice you were gone.”
“I went for a walk.” Kasumi stated.
“I see. And by the looks of it, you got soaked.” Shigure noticed Kasumi’s hair still a little damp. “Where are your other clothes? I know you weren’t wearing that earlier.”
“They’re at a friend’s house.” Kasumi said as she sat down. “His aunt offered to wash them for me and she’d send someone to give them back tomorrow so they could come for Kokoro’s clothes too.” She pulled at the sleeve of the shirt she was wearing.
“A friend’s house? His aunt?” Shigure gave a playful grin. “You’ve been here for three days, hardly out of the house, and then the one day you decide to go out for a walk you just happen to meet a boy.”
Kasumi laughed a bit. “Yeah, yeah. He was really nice. But um...Shigure?”
“Yes?” Shigure looked at Kasumi.
“The boy, Kippei, he was the same one from the airport. The one I told you I had bumped into.”
“Mm-hm. So they were staying.”
“Yeah, they’re visiting for a few weeks. But he didn’t say anything awkward about anything. We were really just talking and then I left after the rain stopped. I borrowed some of his sister’s clothes because mine were drenched from the rain. So I guess that means he doesn’t suspect anything.”
“Well that’s good. So why did you decide to go for a walk?”
“Well, Kyou told me to get lost so I went and...got lost. It wasn’t on purpose though! I was just going out on a walk and then...I just remembered that I didn’t know where I was going or where I was.”
Shigure laughed lightly and shook his head. “As long as you’re safe. We wouldn’t want anything bad to happen to you, now would we?”
“I dunno, maybe it would get Kyou to actually care.” Kasumi grumbled.
“Kasumi, he does care. You know Kyou...well...actually, you kinda don’t. But he’s not good at showing emotions. He really does care about you.” Shigure smiled.
“I guess you’re right.” Kasumi stood up. “I’m gonna go get into some of my own clothes and put Kokoro’s into the wash. I hope it’s okay if they come tomorrow. They’re just gonna pick up the clothes, drop off mine and leave.”
“It’s fine. Even if they stay a little while. I think I want to meet these people. Just as long as they don’t accidently stumble upon our little secret.”
“Thanks, Shigure.”
“No problem at all, Kasumi.”
Kasumi smiled and left to her room.
The Next Day...
“Kyou! It’s the weekend! You don’t have school! Let’s do something!” Kasumi smiled.
“Not again.” Kyou mumbled. “Do something like what?”
“I dunno. Let’s go to the movies. Or the park! Yeah, can we go to the park? Pleeeease! “ Kasumi begged.
“Later.” Kyou said.
“Really?” Kasumi’s eyes lit up.
“Maybe.”
“Awwww!”
8220;Hello! Is anyone home?” Kokoro called from outside.
“Kokoro!” Kasumi smiled, instantly ditching Kyou and racing outside. It wasn’t just Kokoro, but Kippei, Sachiko, and Hinako.
“Hey Kasumi.” Kokoro smiled. “Here. All nice, clean, and dry.” She handed Kasumi her newly cleaned clothes from the day before.
“Thanks. Um, your clothes are in my room. You guys wanna come inside while I go get them?” Kasumi asked, looking to the other three.
“We’re in no hurry.” Sachiko smiled.
“I wanna see your room!” Hinako giggled, following Kasumi inside.
“Okay.” Kasumi smiled.
“You must be the friends Kasumi was telling me about.” Shigure walked into the room.
“Oh, hey Shigure.” Kasumi smiled at Shigure. “Um, this is Kippei.” She nodded towards Kippei. “His sister, Kokoro.” She looked to Kokoro. “Their aunt, Sachiko.” She smiled at Sachiko. “And they’re relative, Hinako.” She patted Hinako’s head.
“Nice to meet you all.” Shigure smiled. “Would you like to stay for a little while? Or are you just coming and going?”
“Nice to meet you too.” Sachiko smiled back. “Why don’t you three go on to Kasumi’s room? We don’t have anything to rush for.”
“‘Kay!” Hinako smiled.
“Come on.” Kasumi lead the way to her room. Kippei, Kokoro, and Hinako followed.
“So Kasumi tells me you’re a novelist.” Sachiko looked to Shigure.
“Yes, I am. And you?” Shigure asked.
“Artist.” Sachiko said.
“Interesting. Do you like it?” Shigure inquired.
“Love it. Yourself?” Sachiko asked.
“I have fun driving my editor insane.” He joked.
“I probably drive my sister insane.” She laughed lightly.
“Sister?”
“Mizuko. She stayed at the house in her office seeing as it was my turn to watch Hinako today.”
“Ah...”
“Well, this is it.” Kasumi looked around her room.
“Not bad.” Kokoro nodded. “At least you don’t have to share.”
“You’re not the only one at the house that has to share, Kokoro. We all do.” Kippei said, looking around the room. “You’re just lucky you don’t have to share it with one of the younger members of the family.”
“Oh yes, poor you has to share your room with little Takeru.” Kokoro said in a fake-dramatic way. “I have to share with Torrence. But it’s better than Ariel, I suppose.”
“I’d watch what you say about Ariel. You know what Sachiko says about the day Ariel graduates from high school.” Kippei warned.
“Oh don’t remind me.” Kokoro sighed.
“What’re you talking about?” Kasumi blinked.
“Oh nothing.” Kokoro lied. “It’s just an inside joke in the family.”
“Oh...” Kasumi shrugged.
“There’s lots of space to run in!” Hinako laughed, running around the room.
“Kasumi, what’s all the noise in here?” Yuki entered the room.
“Oh, hi Yuki.” Kasumi smiled. “These are my friends: Kippei, Kokoro, and Hinako. They’re Aunt Sachiko’s here too, but she’s talking to Shigure.”
“Oh.” Yuki blinked.
“Whee!” Hinako giggled, continuing to circulate the room. She ran just by Yuki when she slipped and began to fall. Quickly, she grabbed onto the nearest thing to keep herself from falling...Yuki’s leg.
Both Kokoro and Kasumi’s eyes widened as they watched.
Poof!
When the smoke faded, where Yuki stood was now a little mouse. Where Hinako had stood once before was not only Hinako, but another little girl. She had curly black hair that was held on bunches on each side of her head, and curious dark brown eyes.
Kokoro and Kasumi looked at each other, they’re eyes wider than before. “Y-You’re cursed!” They both pointed at each other at the same time.
“Shigure!” Kasumi stood up quickly and raced out the door.
“Sachiko!” Kokoro did the same.
Kippei looked to the two little girls, then to Yuki, then back at Hinako and the other girl. “Hinako...”
Hinako frowned. “Hina-chan did bad?”
“Very.” Kippei said. He looked to Yuki. “So...you guys are cursed too, huh?”
“Yes.” Yuki sighed. “But...yours is different, isn’t it?”
“I’ll explain...” Kippei nodded.
“Shigure!” Kasumi ran into the room that Shigure and Sachiko were sitting in, out of breath.
“Sachiko!” Kokoro came from behind her, out of breath as well.
“Woah, where’s the fire?” Sachiko asked, looking at the two girls.
“What happened, Kasumi?” Shigure blinked.
Kasumi and Kokoro stood there for a few moments until they caught their breath again. At the same time, Kasumi pointed to Sachiko and Kokoro, and Kokoro pointed to Shigure and Kasumi. “They’re cursed!” They both huffed.
Sachiko looked to Shigure. “It seems like we both have a little explaining to do...”
“Ladies first.” Shigure looked to Sachiko.
Sachiko took in a small breath, preparing in her mind what she was going to say: wondering if she should lie or tell the truth; make it seem like a joke or be serious.

And there you have it! The Okurimonos are cursed like the Sohmas! But wait a minute...that’s not the Chinese zodiac! So what’s going on? You’ll have to read the next chapter to find out!
