Fruits Basket Fan Fiction ❯ East Side, West Side ❯ Saturday Night LIVE ( Chapter 9 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Okay, so summer’s almost here. (Only half a day of school left and I’m free!) My updates will probably be a lot faster. Anyways, this is probably going to be my favorite chapter to write. Why? Because I’m gonna have so much fun with it! X3 Enjoy!

----

“Come on, Kyou! We’re gonna be late!” Kasumi whined. “We were supposed to meet up with Kippei and Kokoro at their house!”

“I’m coming, I’m coming.” Kyou grumbled. He sat up straight and yawned lightly. “Don’t see why I have to go.”

“You promised.” Kasumi pouted. “You said you would when I asked you about it the other day.”

“Oh yeah.” Kyou sighed. “Alright, let’s go.”

“Okay!” Kasumi raced downstairs. “Yuki! Tohru! I got ‘im!”

“Good job, Kasumi.” Tohru laughed lightly.

Kyou joined them downstairs a few seconds later, shaking the sleep from his head.

“What? No change of clothes?” Kasumi tilted her head.

“No.” Kyou stated.

“Are we leaving now?” Yuki asked.

“Yeah.” Kasumi nodded. She headed for the door. “Shigure, we’re leaving now!” She called.

“Have fun.” Shigure said, peeking his head out of his office. “Don’t stay out too late. And no funny business.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Kyou inquired.

“Well let’s see...three boys and three girls...” Shigure smirked.

“You sick bastard!” Kyou yelled.

Kasumi giggled and pulled at Kyou’s arm. “Let’s go, Kitty kitty.” She pulled him out the door.

Yuki and Tohru followed.

“They’re late.” Sachiko stated as she noticed Kippei still in the living room.

“We’re late too.” Kippei growled. This is all Kokoro’s fault...He thought.

“Ready.” Kokoro announced, walking out of her’s and Torrence’s room.

“Wow, Kandi-kane. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you were going on a date.” Sachiko smirked.

“Aunt Sachiko!” Kokoro looked to her.

“Well, well, look at the time! I’d better start dinner.” Sachiko wandered out of the living room quickly.

“Hey Kokoro, who’s the lucky guy?” Torrence teased as she walked into the living room, picking a book up from one of the couches.

“There is no guy!” Kokoro blushed lightly. “Can I try to look nice without a reason for once?”

“Sure, considering there will never be a guy.” Ariel snorted as she passed by.

“Are you gonna do anything with your hair?” Torrence asked, noticing Kokoro’s hair. It was let loose as usual.

“I figured I could leave it down. I don’t know what else to do with it.” Kokoro shrugged.

“To the room.” Torrence commanded. “I’m gonna fix it up for you.”

“Oh alright, but no make-up!” Kokoro followed Torrence back into their room.

Kippei rolled his eyes and sank back into the couch. He dug his hands in his jean pockets and sighed.

The doorbell ringing caused him to slightly jump. He stood up and went to the door.

“Hey. Sorry we’re late.” Kasumi apologized as Kippei answered the door.

“It’s alright. We’re running a bit late ourselves.” Kippei said, opening the door wider to let them in.

“Where’s Kokoro?” Tohru asked.

“Torrence is fixing her hair.” Kippei sighed. “We’ll be stuck here a few more minutes.”

“We don’t mind. Do we guys?” Kasumi looked back at Kyou and Yuki.

“Egh.” Kyou shrugged, not really caring.

“I don’t see a reason to hurry.” Yuki said.

“Alright then.” Kasumi smiled lightly.

“Ladies and gentlemen!” Torrence called out, walking out of the room she shared with Kokoro. “Presenting the lovely and beautiful...Kokoro Okurimono!” She smiled, looking to the door.

Kokoro walked out of the room with her hair let down but slightly curled. And although she told Torrence that she would not allow make-up to be put on her, it was clear that she caved for a bit of blush and eyeshadow, plus a hint of lip gloss. Her clothes were casual, like the others’. A tee-shirt that stated “Nobody’s perfect...but me” with some jeans that were ripped at the knees and some tennis shoes.

“You like?” Torrence looked to the others.

“It’ll do. Can we go now?” Kippei growled.

“Sure, let’s go.” Kokoro grabbed her keys and her wallet. “Are we walking or should I drive?”
“Since when do you drive?” Kippei looked at Kokoro.

“Since I got my licence last semester, you moron. Shows how much you pay attention to my life.” Kokoro shook her head. “So? What’s it gonna be?”

“I say we walk. To hell if I’d get in a car with her driving.” Kyou said.

“Aw, Kyou. That’s not nice.” Kokoro frowned.

“You’re gonna have to walk.” Mizuko walked into the room and took Kokoro’s keys. “I’m gonna need the car.”

“Aw, Aunt Mizuko...” Kokoro whined.

“Go. You six are already late.” Mizuko practically pushed them out the door.

“We’re going, we’re going.” Kokoro said, following the other five outside. “Well, let’s get going.”

They started walking in silence. It was like at the park the week before. No one knew what to say.

“Hey Tohru, I like your outfit.” Kokoro said to break the silence. “It’s pretty.”

“Thank you. I like yours too.” Tohru smiled.

“Thanks. So what do you guys feel like eating? I don’t know about you, but I feel like a burger and some fries.” Kokoro looked to the others.

“Sounds good.” Kippei shrugged.

“Yes! Fries!” Kasumi smiled.

“Kyou? Yuki?” Kokoro looked at them.

“Sure.” Yuki nodded.

“Whatever.” Kyou shrugged.

“Well then burgers and fries it is.” Kokoro smiled.

They walked the rest of the way in almost complete silence again. Even when they got to the restaurant, the only thing they said was what they wanted to eat. When they got their food, they just munched at it quietly.

“I got a game.” Kokoro said to break the silence again.

The others looked up from their food to her.

“Oh no.” Kippei shook his head. “What crazy game is it now, Kokoro?”

“It’s like...hm...let’s see.” Kokoro began to think of how to explain.

“I don’t wanna play.” Kyou immediately stated.
“Aw, Kyou! You don’t even know what the game is!” Kokoro complained.

“I don’t care. I don’t wanna play.” Kyou said.

“Oh, you’re no fun at all!” Kokoro crossed her arms.

“He never is.” Yuki said.

“What was that?” Kyou glared.

“You heard what I said.” Yuki slightly glared back.

“Oh come on, you two. Don’t fight.” Tohru looked at the two. “What’s the game, Kokoro? I’d like to play.”

“Okay.” Kokoro smiled. “It doesn’t really have a name, but here’s how it goes. One person says something that they think is interesting about themselves, their lives, or their families. Then, we go around the table and whoever has shared a similar experience also tells us about it.”

“Sounds boring.” Kyou yawned.

“Aw, come on Kitty kitty. Play with us.” Kasumi pleaded. “Please? This is a way that we can all get to know each other better.”

“I thought that was supposed to be the point of the ‘get-together’ last weekend.” Kyou sighed.

“Yeah, but...now it’s just us and we can tell stuff we couldn’t with other people around.” Kasumi said.

“Fine.” Kyou growled.

“Okay! I go first!” Kokoro shot her arm into the air. She took it down and searched for an interesting fact inside her head. “Um...I’m the only cursed member of the Okurimono family with a middle name!”

“What? How is that interesting?” Kyou looked at Kokoro.

“It may not be to you, but to me it is.” Kokoro shrugged.

“It’s true. Her middle name’s Kandis. After our mother’s friend.” Kippei said.

“Which is where I get my beloved nickname, ‘Kandi-kane’.” Kokoro smiled.

“Can’t say I’ve shared a similar experience.” Kasumi shrugged.

“Me either.” Yuki shook his head.

“Not me.” Tohru said.

“Okay...um...Tohru, you go next.” Kokoro said.

“Alright. Let’s see...I’m not sure if you think it’s interesting but...when my mom was a teenager, she was in a gang. She was known as the Red Butterfly.” Tohru looked around at the rest.

Kokoro and Kippei looked at each other. They both laughed lightly.

“What’s funny?” Kyou asked.

“Nothing.” Kokoro smiled. “It just reminded us of our mom. See, our mom was not really in a gang. She preferred to hang out by herself. She was known as the Lone Wolf.”

“Wow, really?” Tohru blinked.

“Yeah. And, let me guess...then your mom met your dad and he changed her life forever?” Kokoro asked.

“Pretty much.” Tohru nodded.

“Yeah, same here.” Kokoro nodded in return. “Kyou, your turn.”

“Why me?” Kyou grumbled.

“Because I said so. Now go.” Kokoro urged.

Kyou sighed, trying to think of some random fact about his life that could get him out of the stupid game.

“Kitty kitty, you’re taking too long.” Kasumi sighed.

“Well then why don’t you go?” Kyou looked at her with another annoyed look.

“Fine. I don’t live with my parents.” Kasumi shrugged.

“Now how is that interesting?” Kyou raised an eyebrow.

“Most fifteen year olds that at least have one parent alive lives with them.” Kasumi said.

“None of us live with our parents, Kasumi.” Kyou said.

“Well see? There’s something we all have in common.” Kasumi smiled.

“Well both my mom and dad are dead.” Tohru said, looking at the others.

“I haven’t seen mine in years.” Yuki shrugged.

“Ours are...” Kippei started. He stopped and looked at Kokoro, whose cheerful expression from the entire night had suddenly faded and looked lost. “Kokoro?”

Kokoro blinked and looked at Kippei. “Sorry...um...I need to go...to the...bathroom.” Kokoro got up hurriedly and walked away.

“Did I say something wrong?” Kasumi asked.

“Nah. Don’t worry about it.” Kippei said. “What about yours, Kasumi? Why don’t you live with yours?”

“Well...mine and Kyou’s mom died years ago. And our dad...he doesn’t really like Kyou and doesn’t talk to him so I told him not to talk to me.” Kasumi said, placing her words carefully and occasionally glancing through the corner of her eye at Kyou to make sure she didn’t say anything to make him upset.

“Back.” Kokoro said as she sat back down. “What’d I miss?”

“Nothing really.” Kippei shook his head.

“Um, who’s turn was it?” Kokoro asked.

“Well Yuki hasn’t gone yet. And Kyou has yet to think of an ‘interesting’ fact.” Kippei informed.

“I told you that I didn’t wanna play this stupid game in the first place!” Kyou yelled.

“Then don’t play.” Kokoro looked at him.

“Huh?” Kyou looked back at Kokoro. “Hey, you’re the one that wanted me to play!”

“Well do you want to play, as of this moment?” Kokoro crossed her arms.

“No.”

“Then don’t.”

“...Fine.”

“Good.&# 8221;

“Something wrong, Kokoro?” Kasumi asked.

“I’m fine.” Kokoro said.

“You sure?” Kasumi blinked.

“I said I’m fine!” Kokoro yelled.

Four of them looked at her in surprise. Kippei was the only one that didn’t seem phased.

“We should get going.” Kippei stood up. “Come on, Kokoro.”

“I don’t want to go.” Kokoro stated.

“Kokoro...” Kippei took her arm.

“Let go!” Kokoro pushed him back forcefully.

Kyou’s, Yuki’s, Tohru’s, and Kasumi’s eyes went wide. They stared at Kokoro and then looked at Kippei.

Kokoro glared at Kippei for a while. Then suddenly, she gasped as if realizing what she had done. “Ki–...Kippei...I...I’m so sorry.”

“It’s fine, Kokoro. It’s fine.” Kippei insisted. “Let’s get you home.”

Kokoro nodded. She looked at the floor and silently walked out.

“I’ll pay for the food.” Kippei offered.

“Nah, I’ll do it.” Kasumi said. “You guys go ahead, I’ll catch up.”

“You sure?” Kippei asked.

“Trust me. I’ll catch up.” Kasumi smiled lightly. “Go on.”

“But–...” Kippei started.

“Don’t even bother.” Kyou sighed.

“It’s better not to disagree with her. She’s stubborn.” Yuki said.

“Alright...” Kippei said.

They walked out as Kasumi walked over to cash register.

“So what happened with your sister?” Kyou questioned Kippei quietly as they walked.

Kokoro was falling behind with her head still hanging low.

“It was nothing.” Kippei shrugged.

“Well does that happen often?” Kyou raised an eyebrow.

“From the way he wasn’t surprised by her actions, I’d say it does.” Yuki said.

“Who asked you, you damn rat?!” Kyou glared.

“Gotcha!” Kasumi slightly tackled Kyou from behind. “Told ya I’d catch up.”

“Yeah, now get off me.” Kyou growled.

“‘Kay.” Kasumi got off. She looked at Kippei. “Hey, what happened with Kokoro back there?”

Kippei sighed. “Kokoro’s...not really what she used to be.”

“What do you mean?” Tohru joined in the conversation.

“Oh sure, Kasumi asks and he answers.” Kyou rolled his eyes.

“Well...” Kippei started. He stopped when Kokoro rushed past him as they approached their house and went inside quickly. “I’ll tell you guys another time.”

“Oh, you guys are back so soon?” Sachiko came outside.

“Yeah.” Kippei nodded.

“Did something happen?” Sachiko looked slightly back inside.

“Not really.” Kippei shook his head.

“Kasumi, Kyou, Yuki, Tohru, why don’t you four come in for a little while?” Sachiko offered.

“We should be getting–...” Yuki started.
“Sure.” Kasumi nodded, following Kippei and Sachiko inside.

“Back...” Yuki finished. He sighed. “Shall we?”

Yuki, Kyou, and Tohru went inside after Kasumi.
