Why don't you talk to him? Raven tried to reason with Ryoko.

Yeah, stop being so stubborn. Midnight put in.

Like you're one to talk! The she-cat known as Ryoko growled.

They are right, you know. Gabriel agreed.

Ugh! I can't stand you three! Ryoko yowled, and slunk off to her corner of Kyo's room to sulk. No one understands how I feel…

But I suppose I have to tell him. It's for the best, isn't it? Even if it'd never work out because we're so different. Oh, Shigure…

Ryoko's tail drooped, and she felt human tears threatening to spill forth. Midnight, who had lost some of her roughness in the past months, picked her way over toward her grieving sister. She placed her tail thoughtfuly on Ryoko's hunched shoulder.

A wise human once said, " This above all else, to thine own self be true." The she-cat quoted from one of Kyo's book-things. I don't necessarily think that giving away our hiding place is a good idea, but if you really love him…

Midnight let the question dangle in the air, hoping against hope that her sister would deny the charge. But she didn't. Midnight sighed, she had really been hoping that it wouldn't have to come to this.

If you really love him, prove it.

Ryoko stared, stupidly, at Midnight. P-prove it? How on earth am I supposed to do that?

Go to him. Midnight replied. Go and tell him that you love him more than life itself. That's the truth, isn't it?

Before Ryoko could reply, or even form a vaguely coherent sentence, Raven, Midnight and Gabriel were all shoving her toward the door. The door hung the slightest bit ajar, Kyo had forgotten to close it tightly.

Now's your chance. Raven urged her, hoping that her sister would have the guts to do it so that she could follow in those footsteps and admit to her secret crush. Go!

Ryoko shook them off and pawed open the door.

Fine, but if I get barked at, I'm blaming you three.

And with that, she slipped silently into the deserted hallway.

 

Um, hello? Ryoko padded softly into Shigure's study.

The Sohma Dog was glaring at his computer screen, obviously stuck for inspiration. His hair hung into his eyes, and his kimono was open a little. Ryoko sighed, he hadn't heard her. oh well.

S-Shigure, can you hear me? She bravely forced her paws forward. I-I wanted to talk to you about something important.

His back was to her now, and she saw him grab one of his other books and flip through the pages. " Speak up Kyo. I can barely hear you."

Ryoko took the invitation, and leaped into Shigure's lap. Startled, he tried to stand up and jump back at the same time. " Waaah!" Tipping his chair over backwards and landing on his butt.

" Y-you're not Kyo!" Shigure exclaimed, staring at the lithe Siamese cat that was perched on his chest.

No, I'm not. Ryoko meowed. My name is Ryoko. Kyo's been taking care of my siblings and I since the rainy season started a few months ago. A-and, we need to talk about something. Together.

" Okay." Shigure sat up, and Ryoko landed nimbly on the ground beside him. He cast her a skeptical look. " Out with it then."

i-i-i-i- I'm in love with you!

There was a pause, and Shigure turned beet red. " W-well, I've never loved a Cat before. Are you serious? You're not just pulling my leg?"

Ryoko shook her head. If only it was that. She sighed. I've watched you, and I've decided that, even if you don't care about me at all, that you're the one for me. I love you Shigure! I don't care how different we are! Please, all I ask is that you give me a chance.

" D-don't I get to think about it first?" The Dog exclaimed. This cat was serious. He sighed, this wasn't good news. Oh well. " Kyo's out for a couple of nights, so I guess I'll take care of you and your siblings. If you want, I'll let you sleep on my futon tonight. I do get lonely sometimes."

Ryoko's eyes widened, and she felt a blush start that went all the way from her ears to the tip of her tail. Y-you mean it? Really?

" Of course. I mean, it's the least I can do, right?" Shigure smiled, leaning back and inviting Ryoko into his lap. She oblidged hesitantly, gingerly picking her way. Shigure's long, piano fingers stroked her fur as she climbed into place. " Your heart's beating so fast." He murmured, half-lidded eyes fluttering as his fingers moved along her sides.

This is what I want. Ryoko's purring grew deeper. Just this, only this, only you, my Shigure. His skin against her fur, his fingers touching those places that only humans could touch, his pulse humming against her paws.

Shigure leaned his head back against his up-turned chair and closed his brown eyes. ' What a mess.' He thought, index finger scratching under Ryoko's chin. A tiny, human-like moan escaped her mouth and Shigure's brow furrowed in thought. ' Oh well. Ha-san's always telling me to live a little and go with the flow. Though, I get the distinct impresion that this isn't what he meant.'

' I'll humor the thought. It could be worse, one of the cats could be in love with Yuki! Ha! Now there's some food for thought.' He smiled. ' I'll see where this takes me, it can't be too bad. After all, it'll be fun to play around with Ryoko's fragile little heart before I fuck her so hard that I break it.'

An evil grin spread itself across the Dog's face. However, his moment of mental triumph ended rather abruptly.

" Shigure-san!" It was his precious flower wanting an audience with him.

" Come in Tohru-kun!" He called, ignoring Ryoko's huff of displeasure. " I promise I'm decent!" He could just see her blushing. " Or would my precious flower prefer me otherwise, neh?"

His door slid open and there stood his blushing onigiri, holding Midnight, Gabriel, and Raven. " O-oro, Shigure-san, I found them in Kyo-kun's room. What- oh! You already have one. Oh my, she's so adorable!"

Tohru sparkled and Yuki, who was behind her, blanched inwardly. " We don't need to keep them, Honda-san. The rainy season is over now, they can fend for themselves. Besides, one Cat in this house is enough."

" Neh, Yuki-kun, why the long face, neh?" Shigure smiled stupidly, petting Ryoko with both hands now. " I like them. And, besides, so does our precious flower, isn't that right Tohru-kun?"

If this girl sparkles any more, I think I'm going to throw up. Midnight made a face and Gabriel purred in amusment.

' They can talk!' Yuki thought, thunderstruck.

Onee-chan! Raven mewed from her perch atop Tohru's shoulder. What'd he say? Midnight perked up as well. Yeah, yeah, tell us!

He said, Ryoko purred in satisfaction, unaware of Shigure's inner thoughts. He said, 'Hai.'.

Raven jumped down and Yuki skittered backward into the hallway wall. Then I have resolved to speak the name of my secret crush.

Midnight glanced over at Gabriel, and Gabriel glanced over at Ryoko. This was bad news.

Out with it then. Ryoko meowed the words Shigure had spoken not ten minutes ago. She sat up and Shigure's hands fell to caressing her backside. Ryoko shivered in pleasure and warmth, and her pupils dilated as she tried to focus on her little sister. Is he trying to seduce me? She wondered silently, risking a glace back at the Dog. I'd stake my food bowl on it.

With a deep breath, taking in all the courage that she could possibly muster, Raven mewed out the name of her secret beloved. I love Yuki!

The room was silent, no one moved a muscle save Tohru, who looked, confused between the cats and the two Zodiac. ' What's going on?' She wondered, not sure if she should speak. Shigure's voice brought her back to reality.

He lifted Ryoko in his arms, depositing her onto his shoulders. Shigure stood up, brushing off his yukata and running a hand through his hair. He summed up the mood of the room in just two simple words.

" Oh dear."
