Chapter Twelve: Crash And Burn

Yuki walked through the large double doors to the hospital once again. It was his turn to watch Haru today. As he walked down the hall towards the elevator he stared at the floor. He thought about everything that had happened for the past two years and sighed.

 

“Good morning Yuki.” He looked up and spotted Hatori coming down the hall.

“Morning.” Yuki said calmly.

“Off to see Haru again?” Hatori asked calmly.

“Yes.” Yuki said.

“Good. I'm sure the more you visit the sooner the situation will change. I can't stay and talk Akito is expecting me. I'll see you later.” Hatori said as he glanced at his watch.

“Okay.” Yuki looked a little confused Hatori casual attire at work today. Yuki stepped into the elevator looking baffled. He pushed the button for the fifth floor. When the elevator doors opened he headed towards Haru's room. The door was open and he could faintly make out a conversation. As he walked into the room he could see Kagura talking to Kyo. “Nobody told me you both were doing the same shift”

“Oh hi Yuki.” Kagura said a little startled.

“It's about time. You're late. What were you doing?” Kyo looked at him.

“I ran into Hatori downstairs.” Yuki replied.

“Hatori?” Kagura looked confused. “But it's his day off.”

“It is?” Yuki looked confused. “Did he come visit Haru?”

“No.” Kyo said calmly.

“Then I wonder why he was here.” Yuki looked at the floor.

“I just got here. I was telling Kyo that Isuzu hasn't come home for days.” Kagura said calmly. “And she hasn't been here to see Haru.”

“That's unlike her.” Yuki looked at her.

“I know. I'm so worried.” Kagura said nervously. “Hiro's been taking her shift but nobody knows where she is.”

“That's weird.” Yuki crossed his arms.

“Yeah.” Kyo said calmly.

“Where's Miss Honda?” Yuki asked.

“I don't know.” Kyo shook his head.

“Hi! Everyone!” Momiji yelled from the doorway.

“What are you doing here?” Kyo glared.

“I came with Hatori to visit Kana!” Momiji said brightly.

“What!” Yuki, Kyo, and Kagura said in unison.

“Didn't you guys hear? Kana's husband was abusing her. He really beat her up. She's in the critical care unit.” Momiji said.

“So that's why…” Yuki looked sad for a moment.

“Yeah. They aren't sure she's going to pull through. Hatori's been trying to help as much as he can. But he also has to take care of Haru.” Momiji walked over to Haru. “Hi Haru!”

“That's terrible.” Kagura looked sad.

“It's not too bad.” Momiji said calmly. “Hatori's okay.”

“Momiji? Why did Kana and Hatori stop hanging around each other?” Yuki asked. Momiji walked over to the door and closed it.

“Don't tell Hatori I told you. But him and Kana were engaged at one point.” Momiji said calmly.

“Are you serious?” Kyo listened intently.

“Yeah but when they went to get permission from Akito to get married he because furious and threw a vase at Hatori. That was the day Hatori lost his eye. After that Akito made sure that Kana blamed herself for what happened to Hatori. He also convinced Hatori to erase her memories. Akito said that it was what Kana wanted.” Momiji looked back at Haru. Yuki sat in the chair and stared at the floor. “After that she got married to her husband and Hatori just watched her from a distance. But… When Hatori found out the reason Kana was in the hospital he started to cry. He said something about Akito saying she would be happier without him. But if that was true why is she in the hospital dying of her injuries.”

“Oh no…” Kagura covered her mouth and then suddenly she turned to Kyo. “Kyo don't let Akito find out about you and Tohru.”

“Do you think I'm crazy? I know better.” Kyo looked up at her.

“So I was right…” Yuki mumbled. “Hiro told me about the incident with Kisa the other day. Akito was hurting everyone.”

“We need to do something about this.” Kyo looked over at him. “I remember when he purposely took my bracelet just so he could tell me how gross I was.”

“Oh Kyo your not gross.” Kagura said calmly.

“You're right Kyo. Something needs to be done. I wont let him hurt Miss Honda.” Yuki frowned.

“Yeah I know what you mean.” Kyo looked at him seriously.

“So why did you guys insist that Hatori needed to let you stay with Haru twenty four seven?” Momiji sat in a chair. When they didn't answer Momiji continued. “It was Akito wasn't it? What did he do?”

“It's better that you don't know Momiji.” Yuki answered.

“What are you going to do in three months from now?” Kyo asked suddenly.

“What do you mean?” Yuki looked at him.

“My birthday is in three months from today. You're going to have to tell someone else.” Kyo looked sadly at the floor.

“Kyo you are not getting locked up. I wont let it happen.” Yuki said. “I don't wish that on anyone. Because it's terrible.”

“I will run away with you if I have to.” Kagura said suddenly. “I'm not letting it happen either.”

“Sounds almost worth it.” Kyo smirked.

“You do remember you are engaged right.” Yuki glared slightly.

“Stop doing that. You look like Haru.” Kyo said. Yuki blinked a few times. They heard a slight knock on the door and it opened slowly. Tohru popped her head around the door and smiled happily.

“Hi everyone!”

Hatori walked through the main gate to the Sohma estate and sighed. He walked toward his house with a look of sadness in his dark eyes. He glanced up only when he spotted Shigure sitting on his porch waving at him. He slowly walked over, sat down beside him, and lit a cigarette.

 

“Tough day?” Shigure asked calmly. Hatori said nothing and stared at the ground in front of him. “How is she?”

“She's not well.” Hatori said calmly. “They don't think she will make it through the night.”

“What do you think?” Shigure asked with curiosity.

“I think they are right. I looked over the charts. I even tried to put dents in their diagnosis. But in the end everything they had was right on the dot.” Hatori said.

“That's a shame.” Shigure frowned. “Especially considering that she was supposed to live a long happy life.”

“Or so Akito said.” Hatori mumbled.

“I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said anything.” Shigure also pulled out a cigarette and lit it.

“No. You're right.” Hatori said suddenly. “In fact you were right from the beginning and I should have listened to you.”

“Don't blame yourself.” Shigure said. “It's not your fault.”

“Then why do I feel so bad?” Hatori said calmly.

“You just feel guilty. We all do about some things.” Shigure shrugged.

“So when did you plan to tell me about the wedding?” Hatori looked over at Shigure.

“I see you figured it out.” Shigure smiled. “Actually some of us were worried about Akito finding out. But it wont matter anyways.”

“So you all thought I would tell Akito.” Hatori said.

“Well yes.” Shigure said calmly. Hatori sighed heavily and looked back at the ground again.

“I would never say anything about Kyo and Tohru. I want to protect them.” Hatori said with a blank stare. “I don't want them to suffer the same fate.”

“This coming from you?” Shigure looked stunned. “You're the one who is always saying we need to tell Akito.”

“I didn't tell Akito about you plans to break the curse.” Hatori looked at him again.

“True.” Shigure took a puff of his cigarette once more.

“But I guess I can't blame you for worrying.” Hatori said.

“Well even so…” Shigure was cut off as Hatori's phone rang.

“Hang on a second.” Hatori ran inside to answer his phone. Shigure watched from the porch and sighed. A few minutes later Hatori came back out to the porch. “I'm going to the hospital.”

“What happened?” Shigure asked.

“Kana… Her heart stopped beating. They're having a hard time resuscitating her.” Hatori jumped in his car and drove off.

“Shigure! We're home!” Tohru said brightly as her, Yuki, Kyo, and Kagura walked through the door. “Shigure? Huh… I guess he's not home.”

“Must not be. It's too quiet.” Kyo said calmly.

“I'll make some dinner.” Tohru smiled and ran into the kitchen.

“Can I help?” Kagura ran after her.

“Oh no. We're going to have another fire in the kitchen.” Kyo sighed.

“At least it isn't me.” Yuki said calmly and sat on the couch.

“Yeah.” Kyo almost laughed.

“Miss Honda is so thoughtful.” Yuki looked up at the ceiling.

“When are you going to call her by her name?” Kyo sat down next to him.

“Kyo look at this!” Kagura said happily.

“What is it?” Kyo stood up and walked into the other room. Yuki continued to stare at the ceiling with a frown on his face. He blinked a few times before he realized Tohru was standing there staring at him.

“Yuki… Are you okay?” Tohru asked as she walked over to the couch.

“I'm fine Miss Honda.” Yuki replied.

“I wish you wouldn't tell me that.” Tohru looked at the ground.

“What?” Yuki looked at her.

“I wish you would open up and tell me things. Yuki if you have something to say to me I wish you would say it. It makes me sad when you don't.” Tohru frowned.

“Miss Honda… No…” Yuki felt a knot in his chest. “Tohru… I… I'm sorry.”

“Oh no I didn't want you to apologize! I just wanted to tell you how I felt and…” Tohru corrected herself and sat down on the couch next to him.

“Tohru… I haven't been honest with you. And I have been angry for a long time and I still haven't explained myself. Tohru…” Yuki grabbed cupped her hands in his and stared her in the eye. “I have been trying to say something to you for a while. And up until now I have been afraid… Tohru… I… I love you.”

“Wha? What?” Tohru blinked blankly.

“I love you.” Yuki looked down. “But I can't have you.” He let go of her hands. “That's why I've been upset.”

“Yuki…” Tohru covered her mouth.

“I know it's unfair.” Yuki stood up and turned away from her. “You're marrying Kyo. You're in love with him. I can't change that. And I probably shouldn't have said anything.”

“But Yuki… I.” Tohru stood up.

“Tohru.” Kyo suddenly appeared in the doorway.

“Yes Kyo?” Tohru looked over to him while Yuki looked over his shoulder. “Can we talk a minute?”

“Sure.” Tohru looked back to Yuki. “I'll be right back.” Tohru went to walk into the other room but Kyo remained in the doorway.

“Do you love me or Yuki?” Kyo suddenly asked her.

“What?” Tohru looked confused. Yuki turned and looked strangely at Kyo. “I love you Kyo why would you ask.”

“Tohru I want you to be honest with yourself.” Kyo said calmly.

“Kyo why are you asking her…” Yuki asked.

“Quiet and minute.” Kyo looked at him. “Tohru when I asked you that question just now who did you think of?”

“I thought…” Tohru glanced over at Yuki and then back at Kyo.

“That's what I thought.” Kyo said calmly. “Tohru… Lets be honest with each other. We're great friends but we're not a great couple. Neither one of us is in love with the other.”

“Kyo what are you saying?” Tohru looked at him sadly.

“Tohru… What I am saying is we shouldn't get married.”

The rice ball pops on the screen next to a black and blue paper fan surrounded by a pool of blood.

 

“I only hit you cos I love you! Get it fan abuse!” The rice ball whacks the fan.

 

End Chapter Twelve

 

Okay here's the next chapter. I take forever to get some things done. Even so I will finish this story in fact it is coming close to its dramatic ending. I would say about four or five chapters more. Who knows it might even end up being six. Either way the worst has yet to come. Anyways read and review and I will be sure to get some more of my projects done. Hopefully it will be my stories.
