On their way to the cafeteria Haru's orange haired roommate had found them.
“Watch where you're going orange-top.” Haru ruffled Kyo's hair sprightly and smiled.
“Shut up,” Kyo almost laughed. “Who's this?” Kyo quirked an eyebrow at Yuki.
“It's Yuki you idiot. I was about to take him to lunch with us.”
Yuki eyed Kyo, as he seemed to be considering something. “Kyo, it's been a while. How have you been?” Yuki looked up at Kyo.
“Umm…alright.” Kyo didn't make eye contact and was fiddling with a black and white beaded bracelet Tohru gave him in sixth grade that he'd worn ever since.
“I see you still wear that bracelet. So…uh…you still talk to Tohru,” Yuki questioned.
Kyo shook his head. “No, not really.” This time he looked at Yuki straight in the eye.
“That's too bad.” It was Yuki's turn to look down.
Haru found this a most opportune moment to suggest getting something to eat before lunch was over. “Hey, let's go get some food and find Tohru, then we can reminisce and catch up.” He grinned and did a thumbs up.
“Yeah sure,” Yuki and Kyo both agreed.
They got their lunch and found Tohru.
“OH MYGAWD!!” She was beaming at them, immensely happy. “Yuki! What are you doing here?”
“Oh. Tohru, it is so good to see you.” He gave her a hug then continued. “My mom thought it would be good thing to put on college applications.” He chuckled a little.
Tohru giggled and grabbed Yuki's hand, pulling him down to sit with her.
“Eh heh,” Yuki laughed a little nervously but sat by her anyway.
`She seems so eager and energetic. She seems different, but I don't know why. There's something about her; I can't put my finger on it.' Yuki was deep in thought when Haru's loud laughter woke him up. “What's going on,” Yuki asked.
“Oh well, Kagura nearly pounced Kyo and now he's all frustrated. “Haha it was hilarious,” Haru explained.
“Oh.” Yuki smiled at the pouting red head.
“Listen up,” Tohru spoke, “I want us all to catch up so we should each go around and let everyone know what's going on now since we don't know each other that well anymore. I want us all to become best friends like we were before.” She grinned. “Oh yeah, and Kagura too.”
“I'll go first,” Haru said. “Since I got into a bit of trouble back at my old school, my parents sent me here because they thought it would be a good place for me to get discipline Since I got into a bit of trouble back at my old school. HAH! As if. Umm…recently learned how to play guitar and I love it. As you can see I've pierced myself and I'm thinking about getting a tattoo. Oh yeah, my sis is getting married. It's really weird but eh…whatever. That's pretty much it. Who wants to go next?” He looked around at everyone.
“I'll go,” Tohru piped up. “I've been going here since we left middle school and all separated. Kagura was my roommate and has been ever since. Really, nothing has changed all that much in my life. Yuki you go next.” She fluttered her eyelashes at him flirtatiously.
“Erm…okay. I went abroad to study for my first three years of high school. In America. Really I haven't done anything interesting besides that. My mom decided to move me to this school because she thought it would be a good idea if I wanted to get into a good college.” He shrugged and looked around.
Haru and Tohru eyed Kyo.
“It's your turn Kyo-Kyo,” Haru teased.
“Don't call me that.” Kyo gave Haru a look. He heaved in a sigh and began to speak. “My parents and I moved back here a year ago and they thought I'd get a better education at this school…I think they just wanted me outta their hair.” He pulled a hand through his hair. “But, hey who's complaining, right? Well anyway here I am.”
They all nodded thoughtfully at Kyo's story.
“Wait…” Kyo said without reason. “Can I tell you guys something personal and you promise not to be judgmental or anything?” He searched their faces for some sort of answer.
“Yeah, of course,” they all agreed, wanting nothing more than to hear what Kyo was about to say.
“Alright, but remember you promised and I haven't told anyone yet so…yeah. Umm…I…I think I'm bi, you guys.” He looked at all of them trying to gauge their reaction.
An awkward silence followed Kyo's confession. `Fuck,' he thought, `I shouldn't have said anything. I should've just kept it to myself.' Kyo furrowed his brow and bit his lip as the silence continued. “Erm…just forget what I said. It…”
Kyo's sentence was cut off as Haru threw an arm over Kyo's shoulder. “Haha, no worries dude. Are you still you?” Haru stared at him seriously.
“Umm…I think so.” Kyo looked confused.
“Well then that's all we care about right guys.” He winked at Kyo and looked at the rest of them.
“Of course, Kyo,” Yuki said, sincerely.
“Yeah, of course,” Tohru replied, less than convincingly.
“If you say so. I'm just glad you guys weren't freaked out or anything.” He raised a doubtful eyebrow and exhaled.
“Why would we be Kyo-Kyo,” Haru questioned as he squeezed Kyo's shoulders reassuringly.
Kyo ignored Haru's question and went on. “Especially you Haru, cause I share a room with you.” He looked up at Haru unbelievingly.
The bell rang and they all stood up.
“Well, we'd better go,” Tohru stated. She grabbed Kagura's arm then looked at Yuki. “Hey, Yuki wanna walk with us?”
“Umm…sure. I'll see you guys later. Meet me here at dinner, yeah?” He looked at Haru and Kyo who were throwing their plates in the garbage.
“Sure, we'll be here.” Haru smiled and Yuki, Tohru and Kagura walked off.
“Kyo, why would that bother me? We're best friends. I don't care if you like guys, girls, whatever. As long as you're still Kyo I'll always be there for you no matter what. Got it?”
He stared at Kyo pensively.
Kyo couldn't help but smile. “Thanks Haru. I felt a little uncomfortable there for a while, but I'm glad I got it off my chest.”
“No problem.” Haru embraced Kyo then said, “We'd better get going or we'll be late for class. I'll see you after class roomie.” He winked at Kyo and walked off, hands in his pockets.
Kyo stared at him for a while then started walking in the opposite direction, toward his class.
Meanwhile, Kagura and Tohru, who had a class together, were talking about Kyo's confession at lunch.
“Wow! I can't believe he actually said that,” Tohru commented. “He didn't strike me as that type, but I guess it's because I don't know him that well anymore.” She shrugged her shoulders.
“Ugh,” Kagura groaned. “For some reason it just makes him seem even more out of reach for me.” She dropped her head into her hands dramatically.
“Kagura when will you get over your schoolgirl crush on Kyo.” Tohru shook her head in disapproval.
“Shut up.” Kagura shoved her playfully. “Besides, what about you? I could totally tell you were head over heels for Yuki.”
“Yeah so. Maybe I am. You got a problem with that?” Tohru eyed her.
“Haha, no. Then again he is pretty dreamy. But that Haru guy was pretty sexy, in a bad boy sort of way. Tohru how do you meet these guys?” Kagura sighed jealously.
“I didn't know they'd turn out this way. We were like five when we met,” Tohru laughed.
“You know I was getting a bit of a vibe from Haru though,” Kagura confessed.
“Yeah? What kinda vibe? You think he likes you? Who knows, maybe he does. I can never tell with that guy. But if he does than possibly you can finally get over Kyo.” Tohru grinned at her.
“Haha, shut up. I don't know how to describe it. It was like he…”
“Students,” the teacher shouted, “pull out your agendas so we can go over the syllabus.”
“I'll tell you later,” Kagura whispered to Tohru as they pulled out their school-issued agendas.
