Fruits Basket Fan Fiction ❯ Lost My Sister in San Francisco ❯ Competition ( Chapter 4 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Wow, I have realized that I write better and faster either in the early AM or really late PM. Or both! Yeah, my last chapter, I started it at about 11:30 last night and wouldn’t stop until it was done at around 5:30 this morning. Woo! That means I pulled my first all-nighter for the summer! I’ve been wanting to do that. Anyway, yeah...so here’s chapter four.

----

“Kassie!” Kokoro knocked on Kasumi’s door loudly. “Kass! Com on! Cut Kyou some slack! I’m sure he didn’t mean to forget your birthday!”

“I didn’t forget. It’s November twenty-fourth.” Kyou said.

“Hey, what’s going on?” Two girls walked down the hall. One was wearing a sea-green one-piece swimming suit, wearing some blue jean shorts over the bottom half. She had matching colored eyes and dirty blonde hair that was tied back into a wet, messy ponytail.. Probably around Kyou or Kokoro’s age. She had a towel wrapped around her shoulders and a drink in her hand.

The other was younger, around Kasumi’s age. She was wearing a blue swimming suit but her towel was wrapped around her body. Her messy brown hair was let loose just above her shoulders. Her hazel eyes looked at everyone, then darted to the door of Kasumi’s room. She walked over to the door and knocked. “Kass! It’s me, Dawn! I need to get in!”

“Satsu, what’s going on?” The older one walked over to Satsu.

“Kasumi’s upset again.” Satsu sighed.

“Again?” She sighed. “We just finished getting her in a better mood.”

“Yeah, if you call a better mood still feeling depressed and empty.” Kippei scoffed. “Oh yeah, better mood alright.”

The older girl looked from Satsu to Kippei and slightly glared. “And just who are you?” She turned back to Satsu. “Satsu, this is an all girls’ school, what is a boy doing here? Hell, what are four boys doing here?”

“Kyou’s my brother, Anita.” Kasumi said quietly as she stepped out of the room. “That one.” She pointed to Kyou.

Anita looked to Kyou and blinked. “Oh. Your brother. That’s right. You have...a brother. The one you always talk about. So there he is.”

“Sounds like you wouldn’t believe her when she did talk about him.” Kokoro mumbled under her breath. The way Anita reacted seemed like she thought Kasumi had made Kyou up.

“Guys, this is Anita. Anita, this is my family. My cousins, Shigure and Yuki, my brother, Kyou, and my friends, Sachiko, Kippei, and Kokoro.”

“Kippei. Kippei...where does that name sound familiar?” Dawn looked to the ceiling, thinking. “Some actor?”

“The one Kassie said she has a cru–...” Anita started.

“I’m going to the beach!” Kasumi announced loudly, over Anita. “Yeah, I think I’ll go to the beach.”

“You have class in less than thirty minutes, Kasumi.” Satsu looked to Kasumi, crossing her arms. “I would hope having your family here would change your attitude.”

“Tch.” Kasumi walked past Satsu. She walked by Kyou, heading for the elevator.

Kyou grabbed Kasumi’s arm, preventing her from going any further. He wasn’t going to let her skip class again. Not while he was around. “You’re going to class, Kasumi.”

Kasumi stopped and sighed. She looked to the floor for a few seconds and then back at Kyou. “Fine. But can we go to the beach after I finish class?” She asked.

“If you don’t have any work.” Kyou said. “But you are going to your classes and you are going to do your work.”

“What? Are you gonna follow me to class and watch me?” Kasumi rolled her eyes.

“Do you want me to?”

“Are you kidding me? Hell no.”

“Then get to class.”

Kasumi took back possession of her arm and went into the elevator. “Fine. I’ll go to class.” She growled, closing the elevator doors.

“So you’re the wonderful Kyou that Kassie brags so much about.” Anita looked at Kyou, walking circles around him. “Hm. I guess.”

“You guess what?” Kokoro watched Anita walk around Kyou, slightly angered. She wanted Anita to get away from him.

“I guess he’s looks okay. Not the hottest guy I’ve ever seen. And what’s with the orange hair?”

“Hey, my cousin has blue and she has green.” Kokoro pointed to Sachiko. “People like their hair different colors.”

“Uh huh.” Anita stopped circling Kyou and went over to Kokoro. She looked Kokoro up and down, analyzing almost everything about her appearance. “So I take it you’re Kyou’s girlfriend?”

“Yeah right!” Kyou and Kokoro both yelled. Kyou yelled because it wasn’t true, Kokoro yelled because she wished it was.

Over the past few months, her feelings for Kyou had grown. She realized it wasn’t just a hypnotic-pegged-into-her-brain-because-Sachiko-kept-insisting-it thing. It was the actual thing. Kokoro Kandis Okurimono had real feelings for Kyou Sohma.

“Anita, you oughtta get dressed and get to class.” Satsu said. “You’re sister’s already ready.”

“Alright, alright Satsu.” Anita stepped away from Kokoro and walked down the hall to another room.

“Sorry about that. Anita’s just very protective of Kasumi. She and Dawn treat her like a sister.” Satsu looked to Kokoro.

“A sister?” Kokoro tilted her head. She turned around and looked to Kyou with a smirk on her face. “Well, Kyou, it looks like we got some competition.”

“Competition?” Tohru asked.

“We’ll see who’s better suited as Kassie’s ‘siblings’.” Kokoro nodded. “Whaddya say, Kyou?”

“What’s the point?” Kyou shrugged. “I’m already her real sibling.”

“But the question is, do you act like a better sibling than Dawn and Anita?” Kokoro smiled at the challenge. “Come on, Kyou. This is your chance to prove to Kasumi that you really care about her.”

“Fine, whatever.” Kyou sighed.

A few hours later

After sight-seeing around the city for a while, the group returned to the school to see Kasumi again. They went up to the thirteenth floor and knocked on Kasumi’s door. No one answered.

“She’s not there.” Tohru blinked. “Maybe she went with her friends.”

“Doubt it.” Shigure shook his head. “My guess is she never came back here after class.”

“Where could she be?” Sachiko pondered. “She should’ve come back by now.”

“I know where she is.” Kokoro said. “Come on, Kyou!” She grabbed Kyou’s hand and pulled him with her to the elevator.

“Why is it that she always takes that stupid cat along?” Yuki raised an eyebrow as he watched Kokoro and Kyou leave.

“She likes him.” Kippei and Sachiko both shrugged at the same time.

“Where the hell are we going?” Kyou asked as he followed Kokoro.

“The beach.” Kokoro looked to him and smiled.

“The beach?” Kyou asked. “What for?”

“She wanted to go, remember?” Kokoro looked forward as they arrived. She looked around the shore and in the water until she finally saw Kasumi wading knee deep in the ocean. “Look.” She lightly jabbed Kyou’s arm and pointed to Kasumi. “I’ll be right back.” She said, going into the water.

“If I swim fast and far enough...” Kasumi said to herself. “I’ll be home.”

“Kassie!” Kokoro called as she approached Kasumi. “Hey!”

“Hey Kokoro.” Kasumi looked to Kokoro, smiling lightly.

“Feels good, huh?” Kokoro smiled. “The ocean waves, the water.” She sat down. The water wasn’t too high still. It was barely around her chest area.

“Yeah.” Kasumi nodded, sitting down next to her.

“Hey...” Kokoro looked to Kasumi. “Kass, you gotta cut your brother some slack, okay?”

“But...he forgot about–..” Kasumi started.

“He didn’t forget your birthday, Kass.” Kokoro insisted. “He didn’t. I swear. Kasumi, you’re being a little too hard on him.”

“But–!”

“He’s new to the whole older-brother thing, Kassie. Last time you two were just kids and you didn’t stay for long so he didn’t feel obligated to watch over you. Now you’re sixteen and a beautiful young girl and he has to protect you from all those guys out there that want to kidnap you and take you away.”

“What about you? Do you feel you have to protect Kippei from girls?”

“With every second of my life. Come on, you need to apologize.”

“Alright.” Kasumi sighed, standing up. She was all wet from sitting in the water.

Kokoro got up with her and smiled. “I’ll race you.”

“Race me? I can run way faster than you!” Kasumi playfully stuck out her tongue.

“Ah, but we’re in water. That’s my turf.” Kokoro smirked. “On your mark...get set...go!”

Both of them took off towards the shore. They ended up with a tie as Kasumi raced out of the water where Kyou was waiting for them. She hugged him tightly with no tears this time.

“Sorry, Kyou.” Kasumi apologized as she looked to him.

“You’re all wet!” Kyou yelled as Kasumi got him wet. He looked to his little sister and smiled lightly and hugged her back. “It’s good to see you again, Kasumi.”

Kasumi smiled.

Kokoro watched the two siblings and smiled to herself. Mission complete.

And there it is! Chapter four! Agh, I hate my laptop, it’s all retarded. Anyway, yeah. In the next chapter, Kasumi and Kippei get to have a little “moment”. Not to mention Kasumi has something planned for all of them. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll think I’m crazy! Keep reading!
