Fruits Basket Fan Fiction ❯ Lost My Sister in San Francisco ❯ Chemistry: More Than a Class ( Chapter 5 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Okay, let’s see...we’re chapter...what? Five? Yeah, that’s it. Barely? Then again, I did just start this fic. Well I guess it’s about time to get this show on the road. So here goes nothing.
----
“Remind me where Kokoro is driving us to.” Kyou growled as he sat in the back seat of the car. It was actually Anita’s car, but she had let Kasumi borrow it so Kasumi could take them somewhere since she didn’t have her own car. But Kasumi hadn’t gotten her driver’s license yet and Kokoro had been itching to drive a car since she got her’s.
“Hell.” Kokoro smiled, looking back at Kyou from the driver’s seat. “Yes. I finally get to drive. Can you believe I actually get to drive? You have no idea how badly I wanted to drive.”
“We’re dead.” Kippei sighed. “Kasumi, how the hell could you let Kokoro drive?”
“Well I don’t have my license yet and since we wouldn’t all fit in Dawn’s aunt’s car, I had to borrow Anita’s. And Sachiko didn’t feel like driving and Kokoro wanted to so...” Kasumi leaned back in the passenger’s seat.
“I think Kokoro’s doing a fine job.” Sachiko smiled, looking out the window in the very back of the blue expedition. “Hey...is it starting to snow outside?”
“It is snowing!” Tohru exclaimed excitedly.
“Tohru, you act like you’ve never seen snow before.” Kokoro teased. “But it is pretty. I gotta admit. Hey, turn on the radio, Kasumi.”
“Gotcha.” Kasumi leaned forward and turned on the radio. “Okay, take a turn to the right.” She instructed.
“I’m on it.” Kokoro made a turn to the right. “So is it gonna be snowing over there too?”
“It always does.” Kasumi nodded, smiling. “It’s so beautiful during the winter. Especially when it’s up close. Looking at it from the inside out is pretty, sure, but nothing compares to actually seeing the snow go on for what seems like miles and miles.”
“Where the hell are we going?!” Kyou yelled, getting frustrated. Kasumi and Kokoro seemed to know where they were going, but they hadn’t told anyone else. So where was it that they were going?
“Look! There it is!” Kasumi pointed to a large house down the road. It was three stories high, white painted with windows to every room. Nearby the house was what looked like a barn that was also painted white. There was a single window at the top.
“So that’s it, huh? The Hainsworth Horse Ranch?” Kokoro blinked. “Wow, their house is huge. Dawn and Anita’s parents live there?”
“Yup. Hannah and James.” Kasumi nodded. “And that’s the stable, where they keep all the horses.”
“You brought us to a horse ranch?” Kyou rolled his eyes. “For what?”
“Because we come here every other weekend. Dawn and Anita’s aunt usually takes us, but since I wanted all of you to see it, I asked Anita to borrow her car. You’ll love it. “ Kasumi insisted.
“Whatever.” Kyou sat back.
They drove up the driveway, into the garage. Kokoro parked behind two other cars, beside another. They all got out of the car, closing the doors behind them.
“This way.” Kasumi led them through the garage door that led inside. “Dawn! Anita! Amy, Hannah, James!” She called as she continued to lead the group through the house.
“Miss Kasumi.” One of the housemaids stopped by, holding freshly washed and folded towels in her arms. She had wavy blonde hair that went passed her shoulders. She was wearing a white and blue maid uniform.“I see you’ve arrived. They’re in the family room.”
“Oh, Debra. Here, let me help you with those.” Kasumi offered, walking over to take some of the towels.
“Oh no, Miss Kasumi. Mr. and Mrs. Hainsworth are awaiting your arrival. You shouldn’t keep them waiting just to help me.” Debra smiled. “I’ve got it all under control.”
“You sure?” Kasumi asked. “It wouldn’t bother me at all.”
“I’m sure. You go on and see them. And who’s this? You’re family?”
“Yeah, Debra this is Kyou, my brother. My cousins, Yuki and Shigure. And these are my friends, Tohru, Sachiko, Kippei, and Kokoro.” Kasumi introduced. “The family room, right?”
“Yes.” Debra nodded. “It’s very nice to meet you all. Miss Kasumi has told me all about you all.”
“Come on.” Kasumi ran to the other room.
“There she is!” A woman smiled as she saw Kasumi enter the room. “Kasumi, it’s so nice to see you again.”
“Nice to see you too, Hannah.” Kasumi smiled, going over and giving Hannah a light hug. “Where’s James?” She looked around the room, waving to Dawn, Anita, and their aunt Amy.
“James went to go unlock the stables for you. He knew you’d want to see the horses as soon as you arrived.” Hannah smiled. She looked past Kasumi to the others behind her. “This must be your family. Hello, I’m Hannah Hainsworth. Welcome to our home.”
“Kyou, Yuki, Shigure, Tohru, Sachiko, Kippei, and Kokoro.” Kasumi nodded to each of them. “Kyou’s my brother. You know, the one I always talk about.”
“Kyou. Wow. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” Hannah smiled, looking to Kyou. “I see the resemblance. I never thought I’d get the chance to meet you.”
Neither did I. Anita thought from her spot on the couch. She pretended to be interested in a book that she had placed in her lap. Occasionally she would glance up at them, trying not to let them see. It went well until she caught Kokoro’s half-glare directed towards her.
A man came in from the cold outside, removing his coat. “It’s cold out there. Kasumi, if you’re going to go see the horses, I suggest a short visit.”
“Hi James.” Kasumi smiled. “I won’t be long. I promise.” She turned around and grabbed Kippei’s hand. “Come on, you should see the horses!” She pulled him along with her outside.
“And just where are they going by themselves?” Kokoro blinked, watching her little brother follow Kasumi outside into the freezing cold.
“How many horses do they own?” Kippei looked around. Brown horses, black horses, white horses, horses with spots, horses with different colors. There were just horses everywhere.
“A lot.” Kasumi smiled. She looked around as well. “I wonder which one she’s in...” She put her fingers in her mouth and whistled loudly.
A horse whinnied near the back. The sound of hoofs lightly stomping on the ground could be heard.
“Tsuyu!” Kasumi smiled, running to the back. She opened the stable door and threw her arms around the brown mare’s neck. “I missed you!”
“I take it this one’s yours?” Kippei walked over. He reached out slowly and petted Tsuyu’s black mane. “She’s very pretty.”
“Very dependable too.” Kasumi smiled, petting Tsuyu. “Wanna hear a funny story from when I was little?”
“Sure.” Kippei looked to Kasumi, smiling. He leaned against the stable door.
“It was the first time Dawn and Anita brung me here.” Kasumi recalled. “I didn’t know it was a horse ranch, but when I saw all the horses locked up in their stables, well with me being a horse and along with my love for horses, I was kinda pissed.” She laughed as she remembered the memory. “I went and let them all out of the stables and tried to set them free.”
Kippei laughed lightly. “I bet you got in trouble.”
“Yeah.” Kasumi laughed lightly to herself. “But I was forgiven.”
There was an awkward silence as the two stopped laughing. There wasn’t any noise in the barn at all. Not even the horses were making any noise.
“So...” Kippei started, looking up from the ground to Kasumi. “I...got the letter you sent me.”
Kasumi looked to him as a small blush spread across her face. “Oh...you...did?”
“Yeah. Chemistry, huh?” Kippei smirked lightly.
Kasumi blushed brighter. “I–I...”
Kippei smiled, walking over to her as she stumbled over words. He thought it was cute, the way she did that. Especially because Kasumi was always so energetic that she never seemed nervous or embarrassed. He gently brushed his lips against hers.
Kasumi blinked, looking up at him. Her face was almost as crimson as her eyes as she stared into his brown ones.
“And here I thought chemistry was just a class.” Kippei said in a whisper.
Kasumi leaned in for another kiss but...
“Wow! These are such beautiful horses!” Kokoro interrupted their moment as she walked into the barn. “Hey, Kass, Kyou’s calling you.” She smiled innocently. She knew they were having a moment. She actually interrupted on purpose. But why?
“Oh, okay.” Kasumi rushed out of the barn, going back inside.
“What the hell was that?” Kippei growled, glaring at his older sister. “You knew that we were talking in here.”
“Yeah, I was also audience to the first kiss.” Kokoro tossed her black hair over her shoulder.
“So then why did you walk in here?” Kippei inquired. “I know it wasn’t on accident.”
“I have my reasons.” Kokoro sighed. “And maybe when you’re mature enough to understand, I’ll tell you.”
“You’re the one that would tease me about Kasumi being my girlfriend, and now you’re trying to stop it from actually happening?”
“I have my reasons, Kippei.”
“Of course you do.” Kippei headed out of the barn.
“Kippei!” Kokoro called after him.
“Don’t talk to me!” He yelled, going back inside.
Kokoro frowned, looking to the ground. “I...I’m just trying to protect you. That’s all.”

Yes! My writers’ block is gone! Sorry it’s been a while since I’ve updated, but I had a long case of writers’ block. For this fic at least. Meanwhile, I’ve been creating new ideas for future FB fics. Yes, they do have the Okurimonos in them too. Especially this one fanfic that I’m looking forward to writing, but it takes place way after this one. Well, keep reading.
