It was going to be a long day. At school Kyo swore he could feel Yuki's eyes on him, but every time he turned, the rat was looking anywhere but at him. He shifted uncomfortably in his seat desperately trying to pay attention to the lesson.

“Kyo? Kyo?” Mayuko-Sensei asked. “Would you please answer the question?”

Kyo's heart stopped. `Oh shit!' “Um… I'm sorry, I guess I musta drifted. What was the question?” He asked, cheeks burning.

“I asked for the answer to question six on page 172.”

“Oh,” `Page 172? We're way past that chapter!' He thought. Kyo suddenly realized he had out the wrong book. He shuffled nervously through his papers. “ Um… 2/3 + 5/3x” He mumbled nervously.

“And what did you get for you original equation?” She asked.

“Um… -x/3 + x2/2.” He mumbled.

“Close,” she said, “ but does anyone know what he did wrong? Anyone? Yuki, what about you?”

“X should be negative. So it will be 1/3 + 5/6 (2-x).”

“Very good. Pay attention Kyo.”

Kyo snapped around in his chair to glare at Yuki, expecting to see a smug look gracing his features. Instead, he was staring strait ahead, paying no heed of the disgrace he just inflicted upon his rival. Kyo growled at him and flopped back around toward the front of the classroom, watching the clock ticking arduously by.

The bell finally rang for lunch. Kyo hopped up impatiently. “Hurry up guys, I'm hungry!” He exclaimed.

“Are you coming Yuki?” Tohru asked brightly.

“No, I think I'll skip out and get some work done for our trip.”

“Yuki, you need to eat. I know you've been down lately, but it's really important that you eat right. Maybe you'll sleep better if you do!” She exclaimed.

“I'm fine, really Miss Honda. I appreciate your concern but…”

“I miss eating lunch with you. We all do.” She said

“Speak for yourself.” Kyo muttered.

He sighed, smiling sweetly at her. “Well, when you put it that way, I suppose the class trip can wait.”

“Good!” She handed him his bento and led the group to a nice shady spot outside.

`Stupid rat.' Kyo glared at the back of his head.

“Kyon-Kyon,” Uo teased, “you seem a bit off today, is something wrong.”

“Quit calling me Kyon-Kyon!”

“Kyo said he didn't sleep well last night.” Tohru added thoughtfully.

“That is too bad.” Hana interjected. “Perhaps if you sorted out those conflicting waves of yours…”

“Hana, cut it out with the wave report thing.” Uo said offhandedly. “So why couldn't you sleep?”

“Ah, I don't know. Bad dreams I guess.”

“AWW!” Uo cooed, “Did you forget to leave the nightlight on last night?”

“NO IT WASN'T LIKE THAT!”

“What was it like then, huh? Where are you going?”

“TO THE BATHROOM!”

“You gotta piss? Do you need someone to hold your hand while you go?” She asked.

“I SAID IT WASN'T LIKE THAT, FOUL MOUTH!”

“Shigure said something about it being about wanting some guys attention.” Tohru added innocently, trying to defend Kyo.

“Oh, so it was that kind of dream! And with a guy?”

“SHUT UP YOU DAMN YANKEE, IT WAS NOT!”

“Who's the lucky guy?” She asked.

“I wonder.” Hanajima added.

“THERE WAS NO GUY, IT WASN'T LIKE THAT!”

“TOHRU, TOHRU!” Momiji called waving brightly when he and Haru spotted the crew.

“Hi Momiji!” She waved back.

“Will you come here really quickly, I have something I wanna show you!” He exclaimed.

“MOMIJI, YOU STUPID BRAT, CAN'T YOU SEE SHE'S EATING!” Kyo yelled, forgetting his intended sabbatical to the bathroom.

“Oh, no. I don't mind! I'll be right back, guys!” She scampered off, following the bunny back into the building.

Kyo was huffing over his food, doing his best to ignore those around him when some gossiping, giggling girls appeared behind them.

“Oh MY GOD you guys, did you hear?” One of them asked.

“Yes.” Hana said.

They stopped giggling momentarily, gave her a strange look, then left.

“What the hell was that all about?” Uo asked.

“Hmm…” Hana began. “It isn't really my place to gossip.”

“Oh come on, it's not like we're going to tell anyone.” She pressed

“It seems one of our classmates has become pregnant, that girl who usually sits behind Tohru.”

“Ah, that sucks!” Uo exclaimed. “Didn't she know how to use condoms?”

Kyo snorted. “I swear, sometimes I feel like the only person in the world who hasn't had sex.”

Haru almost choked, but immediately started smirking contentedly.

“Oh shut up you dumb cow; we all know you've had sex.”

“Well, there's Yuki!” Uo exclaimed.

Haru snickered loudly. Yuki said nothing; he continued to eat with his head down.

“You're KIDDING ME! PRINCE CHARMING GOT LAID!”

Kyo gasped, he never imagined…

“Who was it?” Uo asked. “If it was Tohru, I'll kick your ass.”

“It wasn't Tohru!” He asserted.

By now Haru was laughing out loud, slapping Yuki on the back. “Are you going to tell them?” He asked through his snorts.

Yuki glared at him. “No!”

“Oh come on!” Uo urged, “You can't drop a bomb like that and not tell us the details.”

“First, it was a mistake, so it won't be happening again. Second, she wasn't anyone you guys would know anyway.”

“Well, give us some context!” Uo pleaded.

“She was in our family.” Haru teased.

Yuki glared at him.

“WHAT? Pervert!” The Yankee exclaimed.

“Aww, give him a break, it's distant.” The ox assured them.

Kyo stared dumbfounded into his food. Suddenly, he wasn't hungry, and he couldn't figure out why.

“When was this?” Uo asked.

Yuki remained silent, but again Haru answered for him again. “I don't know exactly when it started, but it ended abruptly about four months ago.”

“That explains a lot. So someone did break your heart!” Kyo snickered. He paused. “Hey, why the hell did I get left out of this? DAMNIT, WHY DOESN'T ANYONE EVER TELL ME ANYTHING?!?”

Yuki ignored him. “Like I said. It was a mistake.”

His fatalistic response signaled the end of that conversation. Kyo sat fuming over his bento. `Never tell me a goddamn thing, damn family, always leave me outta shit like this, Haru knew, that damn dog, even Tohru knew…'

Tohru and Momiji returned shortly, babbling about some sort of European castle Momiji made for class. Kyo glared at the bunny, but decided not to yell, he was too worn out. Once again, Kyo felt Yuki's eyes upon him. He snapped his head up quickly, but Yuki's head was sunken, picking aimlessly at his rice. His eyes were dark, and he looked genuinely sad. Kyo almost felt sorry for the rat. Both sat in silence for the remainder of the meal, receiving worried glances from two members of their party.

The bell tolled, signaling the end of their lunch break. The group filed back into the building.

“Hey Yuki!” Kyo heard Haru call. “Did you mean what you said? Do you really think it was a mistake?”

“No, I don't regret anything that happened.” He paused. “It was a mistake to think that I would ever be permitted to be happy.” He added solemnly.

Kyo swallowed. `Akito.' He looked straight ahead and made his way to class. He decided to pretend like he never heard anything said today. `That damn rat's got it made. He doesn't deserve any sympathy.'
