Kyo woke in a panic for the second time that night. He sat up, breath heavy. It was the same dream as before, but each one was a little more vivid. Kyo could see Akito's wicked eyes, brimming with hatred. Yuki was alone on a foreign hard wood floor. He was afraid yet brave. He stared straight ahead, no tears, no emotion, while Akito… Well, Kyo always woke up when Akito's cracking whip tore into Yuki's tender flesh. Kyo sighed. `Akito can't that bad.' He convinced himself. `I know he lashes out when he's surprised, but he wasn't even angry in my dreams.' His fallen god's laughter still rang in his ears.

Suddenly it seemed very cold in the room. Kyo longed for some tea. He crept silently down the stairs, pausing fearfully when he realized the downstairs light was on. He peeked around the corner. Yuki sat by the lamp, quietly reading a book. Kyo could clearly see, in the exaggerated angles of the yellow light, the dark shadows that plagued Yuki's tired features. His lack of sleep was taking more of a toll on him than he allowed the world to see. Yuki looked up from his book. He nodded at the kitty and continued reading.

Kyo entered the kitchen. It wasn't until he was halfway through boiling his water that he realized Yuki acknowledged him. He stopped mid-step. His heart sped up; he realized his hands were shaking. `What the hell is wrong with me?!?' He wondered. The kettle sounded and he pulled two cups out of the cupboard.

He sat down across from Yuki, nodding at the second cup of tea when the rat glanced up from his book.

“Thanks.” He said quietly, exchanging his book for the steaming cup of tea.

Kyo could feel his heart pounding in his chest.

A tiny smile played across the mouse's lips as he took a sip. “You didn't poison it, did you?”

Kyo smirked. “Not this time, but thanks for the idea.”

“Anytime.”

Kyo savored the delicious warmth of his tea. The rest of the house seemed so very cold.

“Bad dreams again?” Yuki asked.

Kyo nodded slightly. “You?”

Yuki shrugged. “I suppose so.” He looked pensive momentarily. “Are you cold?”

Kyo nodded. Yuki stood, and stooped next to the seated cat. He pressed his cheek against his forehead. Kyo sucked in his breath. He found Yuki's nearness to be utterly intoxicating. `What the hell is wrong with me!?!' Kyo screamed internally. His head was swimming, basking in Yuki's attentions.

“I thought so.” Yuki mumbled, disappearing into the kitchen. Kyo could hear him rustling through something or other. He reemerged with a white little bottle of pills. “You have a low-grade fever, if you take one or two of these you ought to sleep just fine.” He tossed them at the cat.

Kyo popped the lid, watching Yuki as he finished his tea and cleaned up his little powwow by the lamp. Yuki started upstairs. “Thanks for the tea.” He called. He smiled, but the motion didn't even touch the rugged pain he wore in his eyes.

“Anytime.”

“Hopefully Akito will go away now.” Yuki added as he disappeared into the dark hallway.

Kyo took two of the little pills, draining the remainder of the tea. He sighed and headed back to his bedroom. `Hey, how did he know it was Akito?' He wondered. His thoughts were of no consequence, however, because his fatigue was quickly overtaking him. He dragged himself into his bedroom and flopped exhausted onto his futon. He groaned and finally slipped away into the realm of his subconscious mind.

Kyo's dreams were filled with Yuki. Such pleasant times the cat and the rat shared in Kyo's sleep. This Yuki was much less assertive. He was timid and nervous, almost afraid. They stood at a school soccer game. With shaking hands, he grasped Kyo's sweaty palms, lacing his slender fingers through those of the cat. Kyo could feel his heart pounding as he looked nervously at his cousin. Yuki smiled, but quickly averted his embarrassed eyes. Squeeze, he latched onto Yuki's fingers, hesitantly tightening his grip. `I'll never let go.' He thought. Everyone disappeared, the shouts, cheers, and whistles faded into oblivion. All that remained were the two skittish boys.

Somehow, Kyo knew this was a dream. The events weren't unfolding in quite the right sequence. They were but fleeting images, snapshots of what Kyo perceived could have been happy memories. But they were not.

The boys stood before each other naked, again, both timid and afraid. Kyo sized up his new holistic view of his cousin. His eyes were shyly downcast, yet shining in the moonlight. Said moonlight illuminated the faint blush that stained his flawless complexion. Kyo's heart was pumping his hot blood through his veins as hard and fast as it could. He realized his own blush was spreading throughout his body, originating in his gut. Yuki peered bashfully at up Kyo, his chin remaining tilted downward. Kyo smiled at this virginal image of his… blushing bride? This was not at all how Kyo imagined his first time. Somewhere in the recesses of his consciousness, Kyo realized that Yuki was not the timid virgin he appeared to be. Anger swelled in the pit of his stomach as he silently cursed Haru for being the first receptor to Yuki's touch, his attention. Yuki reached out, he placed his shaking arms behind Kyo's neck. Suddenly, his anger vanished. He reveled in the sheer ecstasy of the soft, supple stratum encasing his being, brought to life by the touch of another. Nothing can compare to the intimacy and comfort of skin pressing against another's bare flesh. He kissed Yuki. His lover moaned softly into his open mouth. They moved to the futon, entangling limbs and erections pressing against the other. Kyo's breath was heavy as he pulled Yuki on top of him. He traced his sides with his rough hands. Yuki shivered and claimed the lips of his lover, rocking his hips gently. Kyo groaned and arched his back, begging for more friction between their two throbbing shafts.

“I want you to go first,” He whispered into the mouse's ear.

Yuki pulled back. “Are you sure?”

Kyo nodded, handing him the jar of lubricant. Yuki timidly took the jar from him, and coated his throbbing penis and fingers with the slick gel. He slid his fingers inside Kyo's deep chasm as the kitty shifted uncomfortably. He moved them in and out of his lover whispering his prayers that it wouldn't hurt. Finally, he drew Kyo's legs apart and placed himself between them. He waited for the telling nod of his cousin before easing himself in slowly.

Kyo stiffened, the pain was unbearable, but the intimacy was worth it. He could feel the body of his lover above him quivering with pleasure, struggling to control his urges. He kissed Yuki, silently urging him to continue. His own erection swelled as Yuki rocked back and forth, stimulating him to no release. Kyo panted happily.

A gentle knock on the door disturbed Kyo from his pleasant dream. “What?!?” He barked.

Tohru's soft voice penetrated the door. “Um… Kyo?”

Kyo suddenly felt terrible for his hasty snap. “Yeah?”

“Um… it's late, are you coming to school today?” She asked.

“Oh, yeah.” He glanced at his clock. He'd be fine if he cut out his morning training. “I'll be down in a minute. Thanks.” He called.

He realized that his alarm clock was beeping relentlessly. He shut it off with a huff. His erection was still pitching a tent in his sheets. He'd have to do something about that before greeting that damn rat at breakfast. `That damn rat!' He thought swallowing, remembering the homoerotic qualities of his dream. `What the hell is with me?' He wondered, comforted slightly by Shigure's reassurance that he was simply craving Yuki's attention. `I'm not a fruit.' He assured himself. `WHY THE HELL DO I WANT YUKI'S ATTENTION!?!' He screamed in his head. Kyo hopped out of bed, and started to change for the day. His looming erection demanded immediate attention, however, so he started stroking it gently. He quickly pushed away the graphic imagery from his dream, and focused on his real fantasy: Tohru. He imagined her lying on her back, awaiting his entrance into her depths. Kyo started panting, sweat dripped on his forehead. He came to her and swiftly penetrated her into her core. She moaned his name, and started bucking her hips in response to his throbbing manhood. Kyo grunted as he picked up his pace, he'd like to spend more time developing this fantasy, but school beckoned. He imagined her biting his neck, pleading for release. She screamed loudly as Kyo emptied himself deep into her womb. Kyo sat down briefly, trying to regain his composure. He caught his breath, cleaned up his mess, and quickly changed into his uniform and headed downstairs.

Kyo was already mad at Yuki when he sat down for breakfast. He was mad because he was nice to him last night, he was mad at him because he invaded his dreams all pervy like, but mostly he was mad at him because when he sat down across from the quiet rat, he acted aloof and indifferent, as though once again, Kyo had drifted off of his radar screen. Kyo smirked, today that damn rat was going to pay! `TODAY THAT DAMN RAT IS GOING TO PAY!!!' He thought. He ate his cereal excitedly, waiting for Yuki to stand so he could challenge him to a duel, a battle to the death. `TODAY I'M GOING TO BEAT THAT RAT!!!' Kyo realized he finished his cereal before Yuki and sat drumming his fingers impatiently on the tabletop. Yuki didn't even look up.

“Can we help you with something, Kyo?” Shigure asked, giving him a sideways glance over his newspaper.

“No!” Kyo snapped. `Wait for it…' He thought.

Finally Yuki stood, gathering up his dished along the way.
Kyo waited for him to reemerge. He immediately hopped up and started spouting his usual rhetoric like, “TODAY I'M GOING TO BEAT YOU, YOU DAMN RAT!!!” or “I'M GOING TO BE A REAL MEMBER OF THIS FAMILY!!!”

Yuki sighed, and ignored him.

“WHAT THE HELL'S YOUR PROBLEM?!?”

“I don't feel like fighting.” Yuki mumbled, getting his books together for school.

“Hey, he spoke to him!” Shigure noted, elbowing Tohru happily.

“FACE ME LIKE A MAN!!!” Kyo shouted.

Yuki turned and faced him head on, but he made no move to fight him.

“AREN'T YOU GOING TO FIGHT ME?!?” Kyo taunted.

“No.”

Kyo swung his arm back to punch. He watched as Yuki sighed, taking the punch without flinching.

Kyo laughed. “WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR RELFEXES THERE, GIRLY MAN?!?”

Yuki sighed. “This is a waste of my time.” He turned to go upstairs.

“YEAH, BECAUSE YOU KNOW I'LL WIN!”

Suddenly, SMACK! Something flashed before his eyes. Yuki's hand was within millimeters of the kitty's nose, clutching an orange.

“I thought so.” Shigure said, eyeing Yuki with suspicion as he continued on his way upstairs.

“Um… what the hell just happened?” Kyo asked.

Ignoring him. “AWW, Yuki, won't you give me back my orange?” Shigure begged.

“No.”

“Why not?” He cried a little.

“You're the one who threw it at me.” The rat replied.

“Well, technically, he threw it at Kyo!” Tohru added.

Yuki shrugged and disappeared.

“So cold!” Shigure cried.

“WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED?!?” Kyo repeated.

“Pay attention Kyo,” Shigure began. “I threw an orange at your face.”

Kyo punched Shigure, sending him across the room. “WHY THE HELL DID YOU DO THAT?!?” The fuming cat demanded.

Leg twitching, he replied. “I was just curious, don't hurt me.”

Kyo put the pieces together. Yuki realized what was happening, turned around, and snatched the orange out of the air a millisecond before it hit Kyo square on the nose. Through all of this, Kyo didn't even have time to realize something was flying at his face. Not only that, Yuki had taken his punch like it was nothing! He didn't even blink! He hadn't beat Yuki at all. “THAT DAMN RAT IS ALWAYS HOLDING BACK ON ME!” He yelled. He grabbed his shoes and stormed out of the house, muttering angrily the entire way to school.
