Chapter 11
Kyou’s Questions
After they finished dinner, Tohru was standing at the sink doing the dishes. Yuki had went up to his room, obviously upset about the gift that Kyou had given her. She felt guilty for some reason. She appreciated the gift and was a very cute necklace but she could get the feeling out of her head. She saw the hurt in Yuki’s violet eyes when she joyfully lifted her hair to allow the necklace to be place around her neck. She wanted to give the necklace back to Kyou. She wanted to apologize and give the jewelry back to Kyou. But, she didn’t want to hurt Kyou’s feelings. “Ahhh…Mom, what do I do???”
Lost in thought, Tohru didn’t hear Kyou come up behind her. He tapped her on the shoulder and she nearly dropped the bowl she was washing.
“Oh! Kyou you surprised me!”, Tohru said with a nervous laugh as she set the bowl carefully on the towel next to the sink.
“Sorry about that…” Kyou said in a quiet voice.
This tone sent a chill down Tohru’s spine for some reason. She turned around and looked into Kyou’s eyes. They trembled a little at the corners.
“Are you alright Kyou? Is anything wrong?” she said with concern in her voice.
Kyou took her by the hand and led her out the back door, “ I need to talk to you about what you told me earlier…” he said gently.
“Ano…okay…” she mumbled nervously drying her hands on her apron.
They walked over to a large boulder in the garden and sat down. Kyou cleared his throat and said, “I just have some questions I need answered…about the baby…”
His voice trembled and Tohru could tell this was hard for him to ask calmly. That was understandable.
Tohru smiled and said, “Okay…whatever you want to know…”
When Tohru told him that she was pregnant Kyou at first thought he must have heard her wrong. He wished he had heard her wrong. But, he knew, he knew what Tohru had said was true and all he really wanted to do was shake her. Demand to know why she kept this from him. Didn’t she think he could handle it? But, he knew the truth. He couldn’t handle it. He never had been able to control his temper, except around her. And now, he knew, he had to be strong for her. So, as much as he wanted to scream and yell he had run off and tried to calm down earlier.
Now, after he had decompressed and ate dinner he led her out to this rock to ask her what actually happened.
He took a deep breath and said, “Did this happened the night you were attacked?” as calmly as he could.
He thought to himself, as he looked her over, ”How could I have missed her tummy…it is really growing…and her change in gait…I’m such an idiot.”
Tohru looked into Kyou’s fiery eyes and she could see the rage boiling beneath the surface. She knew he was really fighting to keep control and she appreciated that he was trying to be composed for her.
“Yes, it happened that night. And I wasn’t the only victim. The rapist was a victim too…it was someone you know.“
Kyou tried to keep his anger bottled up as Tohru told him about the rapist being a victim too…what the hell did she mean by that? He asked himself with confusion.
Through gritted teeth he said, “What do you mean he is a victim too? What do you mean I know him? Who is it? I’m gonna kill ‘em!”
He stood there shaking with his fists down at his side obviously trying to hold back the ire that threatened to overwhelm him.
Tohru grabbed his arm and he swatted her hand away.
“Don’t, don’t touch me! I can’t believe you would try to protect the man who did this to you!”
Tohru broke down crying, “No! Kyou! It wasn’t his fault! Akito drugged him! He didn’t know what he was doing!” Tohru shouted with despair and wrapped her arms around his legs.
“Who is it? Is it that filthy Rat? Did he do this to you? Don’t believe him Tohru…you know he has been out to beat me somehow since the day we were born! He knows how much hurting you would hurt me!”
Tohru shook her head no and sobbed out, “It wasn’t Yuki! It was Hatori! He didn’t mean it! Please, if you love me you won’t do anything to him! Please!”
She pleaded as tears rolled off her face and wet the edge of Kyou’s slacks. The primal Cat side of Kyou wanted at that moment to leap off the roof and find the Dragon and slit his throat. But, Kyou felt for Tohru and knew if he did that she would be crushed and so he patted her head and he promised he would not hurt Hatori.
All the while his Cat side screamed in fury, “WHAT! He defiled her! WE have to kill him! Kill!” But the rational side of him knew whom he would kill. He had promised not to harm Hatori. But, he sure-as-hell never promised not to kill Akito. He had to make a plan. They never let him near the Main House.
