It was a cold winter day in Central. Roy shivered lightly as he walked down the street. He heard some shuffling of feet over his head and noticed someone sneaking on the rooftop. Who ever it was they where wearing military blue so he ignored them.

“Get him!” a shout rang out and he watched the military guy slide down a drain pipe and tackle a guy.

“I have the suspect!” Came an almost angelic voice. Roy took a closer look at the guy in military blue. They guy shivered and looked over his shoulder. Right at Roy. Roy's widened in unison with the military blue. He had long blonde hair and boyish features. He looked to be at least 19 years old. The thing that caught him, the one thing that blew his mind away was the fact that he had one blue eye and one grey eye.

“Good job Grey,” the blonde looked up to his commanding officer.

“It was easy, sir, I just read his mind and figured which way he would go,” Grey told him. The commanding officer had short blonde hair and when he looked over at Roy he could tell that he had green eyes.

“I can take it from here, Major.” Grey saluted his commanding officer then made his way over to Roy. The look the boy gave him sent chills down his spine. So Readers still existed.

“Royivous Nathanial Mustang, 23 years old, no wait… 123 next month…” the next thing Grey read he kept to himself and smiled.

“Well you seem to know me, who are you?” Roy asked astonished.

“Edger Grey, or as they call me around the base Edger the Grey.” He said pointing to his grey eye.

“So Readers still exist, I'm impressed.” Roy said with a smile.

“So Vampires still exist, that is impressive in itself.” Roy laughed and raised his hand to shake Edger's.

“I can keep no secrets from you then,” Edger smiled at Roy's statement and shook his hand.

“Should I call you Royivous or Nathanial?” Edger asked him.

“Call me Roy,” was his response to which Edger laughed.

“So you want to go get a drink do you? Bourbon right?” Edger said as he pointed to a small bar.

“Don't you have to be getting back to the base?” Roy asked him.

“No, I'm a State Alchemist, The Hawkeye Alchemist to be exact,” Edger told him.

“What's your specialty?” Roy asked as they walked toward the Bar.

“I make weapons, sniping rifles to be exact.” Edger winked at Roy and he smiled.

“I'm good at one kind of alchemy, around a hundred years ago I was in the military,” Edger laughed.

“You use Flame Alchemy, nice.” Edger said as he opened the door to the Bar.

“How does that mind reading thing work? You see everything at once or do you just keep reading me?” Roy asked seriously.

“Well to tell the truth, yeah it's all at once, when I was little I almost went crazy because of it. I can choose who I want to read now.” Edger sat down at the bar and Roy sat down next to him.

“Two Bourbon on the rocks,” Edger ordered the drinks.

“Well if it isn't Edger the Grey,” a new voice piped in. Roy and Edger turned to see a tall blonde man with blue eyes. He had a glass of whiskey and in the other he had a cigarette.

“Havoc, what brings you here?” Edger asked him.

“Just got off work, thought I'd stop in and get drunk again,” Havoc smiled. Roy was young but he wasn't stupid. There was something odd about him that Roy couldn't place. He caught Havoc giving him the same look.

“Sorry, Jean Havoc this is Roy Mustang, Roy this is my best friend Jean,” Edger introduced them. They were glaring at each other as they shook hands.

“Ed can I talk to you alone for a sec?” Jean asked him and Edger nodded. They walked over to the far end of the Bar where Roy could barely hear them.

<i>`You know he's a Vampire right?'</i> Jean sent to Edger in his mind.

<i>`I'm a Reader remember, I'm not stupid.'</i> Edger told him.

<i>`You do know that Liken and Vampires don't mix right,'</i> Jean asked. Roy looked over at the two and noticed that they weren't saying anything. He shrugged and took a drink of his bourbon.

<i>`Jean listen, I trust him, he's not like the others, he's a Rogue Vampire,'</i> Edger told him and Jean smiled.

“You should tell him that I'm a Liken,” He said out loud cutting off their mind talk. Roy shifted in his seat. He knew what a Liken was, they were monstrous beasts that transformed into humans whenever they wanted to and they were immortal just as Vampires were. He resisted the urge to look over by gazing into his glass of bourbon.

“I trust that you will take my word and trust this one, please as my friend,” Edger pleaded with Jean and he sighed.

“If you say so,” Jean said as he walked up to the Vampire and sat down next to him.

“Is it true what they say about Liken?” Roy asked looking up but not in Jean's direction.

“Depends,” Jean said as he downed his glass of whiskey.

“Are you a wolf that turns into a man or a man that turns into a wolf?” Roy asked looking into sapphire blue.

“It depends,” Jean joked as he watched Edger sit down next to Roy.

“You optimistic or pessimistic?” Jean asked him. Roy relaxed and allowed himself to laugh.

“It depends,” they laughed together. Edger smiled brightly.

“Really you guys, you're acting your sexual preference,” Edgar said as he watched both me flush in embarrassment.

“I need to get going,” Jean said as he nodded to Edger then to Roy and left.

“Now that you have me alone, what are you going to do with me?” Roy asked as he looked Edger up and down. Edger's expression turned serious.

“Roy, do you know why a Reader is born?” Edger asked Roy and he shrugged.

“When the path of history is altered in any way, a Reader is born to fix the imbalance.” Edger told him and Roy quirked an eyebrow.

“What? You think the course of history has been altered?” Roy asked him.

“When a Reader is born with no sight in both of their eyes, it's a Human alteration, when the right eye is blind it's a Liken alteration, and the right eye like I have is a,” Edger started to tell him but Roy finished.

“A Vampire alteration,” Roy said as he sighed.

“Roy, tell me, why did you refuse the crown?” Edward asked even though he could pick up the answer if he wanted to but he wanted to hear it from Roy. Roy looked across the bar and into the bottles of liquor that sat on their shelves. He sighed and looked down at his glass.

“I have no desire to be Furor King,” Roy said as he looked over at Edger.

“But it's your destiny,” Edger said as he turned to face the Vampire.

“I don't want to hear this, especially not from you,” Roy said as he turned away from him.

“It's because of your Sire isn't it?” Edger said rather than asked. Roy was quiet for a moment then sighed again. He took a drink of his bourbon then felt like he was thrown into a prison for his soul.

“She didn't really give me a choice, she said you are a vampire now, Act like One.” Roy said as he set his gaze on his glass. He was startled at the hand that was placed on his back.

“You don't like the idea of killing to survive do you,” Edger asked and Roy finally looked up at him.

“No. Then after she turns me she says that it was my duty to assume the thrown, to tell the truth I was scared so I ran away,” Roy said as he laughed because now when he looked back on it, it was a foolish childish move.

“You will make a good King, the one that's on the thrown right now has abused his power, he has cast the world of the immortals into a war against each other.” Edger told him.

“So what you're saying is I should storm down there and take him out?” Roy asked him.

“Roy…” Edger said as he placed a hand on Roy's face.

“The Reader's duty is to protect the Righter, to comfort them, to love them. Why I wasn't born a female is not of my concern now, for I now know why.” He said as he gazed into Roy's eyes. Blue and grey into onyx.

“So the Righter is the one who sets history back on its course, I feel like Atlas.” Roy said as set his head down on his arms.

“You don't have to bare the world alone; you have me to stand by your side.”

“I knew there was something about you, that you were different from all the others.” Roy said as he sighed and placed his chin on his raised knuckles.

“And I felt it too,” Edger said as he turned Roy's face and kissed him on the lips. It was strange. It was like fireworks were exploding in his head and body. It was nothing like he had experienced before.

“That was weird, yet wonderful,” Roy said as they broke for air.

“You felt it too?” Edger asked.

“Yeah, now what's the plan? I have now idea how to get back into the castle,” Roy said as he held Edger's hand.

“Leave that up to me,” Edger grinned.
