Chapter six
Edward screamed loudly then paused. /What if it’s the Colonel. Do I really want that bastard to see me like this? / He thought struggling again with the bindings holding him. It had been ten minutes since the two had left him hanging in the middle of the room. He felt his cum pooled around his knees and shook his head. /The dirty bastard would joke about this... I’d never hear the end of it. / He thought as he hung his head intent on staying quiet.
Hawkeye heard the scream from behind the stone panel she had thought was off a little. "Ed. Edward are you in there?" She asked searching for the trigger to open the door hoping that the boy was safe.
/It’s not Mustang. / Ed would have pouted if he didn’t have the ball in his mouth. /Riza, / He struggled more yelling the best he could around the gag. He winced slightly as the metal bit into his left wrist and neck. /At least they didn’t take my arm and leg away.../
Hawkeye found the switch and opened the door.
As the door opened the floor above her started to fall. The blond woman rolled into the room, barely avoiding being pinned under a falling floor joist. She pulled herself off the floor.
Edward’s face went red as she saw him. /At least it’s not Roy.../ He thought as he watched her get up. The first thing she did was remove the gag in his mouth.
"Fullmetal, are you okay?"
"Does this look like I’m okay Hawkeye?" He asked with a small growl. Smoke started filling the room as she worked at tearing the rope from his wrists. "Colonel Bastard went overboard with the fireworks didn’t he?"
She nodded finding a blanket and tossing it at him. "Come on. Let’s get going before we can’t get up the steps."
Ed nodded. "Yeah." He thought for a moment, looking at the scraps that used to be his clothing. Riza watched him clap his hands and touch the fragments. His clothing mended it’s self and he gathered it up in his hands wrapping the blanket around his shoulders.
Riza noted the small hinted blush on the teen’s cheeks as he tried to walk as dignified as possible up the stairs. She helped him up the stairs staying the wall. "Damn it." She growled seeing that they couldn’t leave the way she had come in. The flames were higher there.
Edward glanced at her seeing the blisters starting to form on her shoulders where she had been burned. /She’s going to need to have that looked at.../ He thought seeing the pained look in her face.
/Shit... Where are Riza and Edward? / Roy thought as he came out of the building coughing. Brenda was a few steps behind him.
"I couldn’t find him sir." Brenda said when he could talk without coughing.
"Hawkeye!" Roy growled starting back for the door. Brenda tackled him down seeing something inside fall. /Edward! / His mind screamed hoping that the boy was safe.
"You go in there now and you’ll just get killed." Brenda said worried that she and Ed hadn’t returned yet. /They’ll make it out. Ed wouldn’t die on Al./ He thought.
Roy nodded having a feeling that Brenda was right.
Two figures came out a low window. The smaller of them landed with a tumble, the taller a little harder, but still safely.
"Hawkeye." Roy scrambled over to check on them.
Ed sat huddled in the blanket, coughing and gasping for air.
Mustang noted the red marks on his wrist and neck. /Please tell me they didn’t hurt you.../ He thought worried, about the boy. /He’d never take it as worry though. He’d think that I was pitying him because he’s short. /
"I think we’re okay." Riza said calmly standing after a moment. She hissed reaching to touch her burned shoulder.
"Brenda, help him." Roy ordered helping her up. /I don’t think I could handle being that close to him if they did hurt him. / Roy thought as he looked at the burn. "Sorry Lieutenant." He whispered to her.
"It’s okay Colonel sir. You didn’t know it would get out of control. At least the girl won’t have to worry about going back there. Did you find the second objective?"
"I’m hoping I did." He said patting his pocket lightly making sure the vials were still there. He fought a shudder, keeping his mask up, as he remembered what the husband and wife had done to him before. /I don’t need to think about that now.../ He thought as he watched Edward stomp off. /I’ll ask him to report later... Hopefully he won’t bottle up on me. / "Come on, let’s go back. Time’s almost up." /That was a little overdone, maybe he’s starting to tub off on me. /
The four looked up hearing gunshots. Riza and Brenda both checked their side arms.
By the time they arrived it was over. Hughes was gently patting Ritsuko’s back as she wiped her mouth with the handkerchief that he handed her.
"You better now?" The girl nodded slightly still looking pale. Hughes patted her back lightly. "It’s okay... It’s over now." He saw Ed pass and climb into the van.
/They won’t see me this way.../
Mustang watched the young teen. /He’s too quite. / He thought, hoping that Ed would be back to his old self once he was dressed.
"Brother, what happened?" Al started for the van, only to be stopped by Hawkeye.
/Great... how am I going to tell him that his older brother was molested.../ Ed thought.
"He’s fine Alphonse. He just needs a few moments to regroup." Hawkeye said as an explanation.
/Thanks I owe you one Hawkeye. / Ed thought as he pulled on his boxers. He fumbled with trying to get his pants on. When he had them buckled he pulled the blanket off him and his shirt on. He looked at his over shirt and jacket, opting to leave them off for the moment.
"What happened?" Maes looked at Riza as she spoke. He carefully scooped up Ritsuko, who was leaning against him still fighting the urge to lose everything else in her stomach. The urge subsided a little and she leaned her head against him closing her eyes a little.
"They were trying to get the young lady here. I couldn’t just let them take her."
Roy nodded. "I see." He pulled the vials out of his pockets. /Hope that we’re not too late. / He thought when the red head moaned in pain again, this time arching her back. Ed held the girl trying to calm her.
"I’m sorry. I had to, he would have killed you or worse." He whispered calmly. She nodded clinging to him weakly.
Roy took the black vial out, holding it to the light. "I hate to bother you ma’am, but what did they use to counter it?"
Ritsuko paled a little more. "It was a black vial. They’d scream a while before they went silent. A few days later they would wake up, but only long enough to..." She dropped her head shivering.
Roy frowned hearing her words. "I meant did they force them to drink it, or was it injected?"
"They... they forced them to drink it." She said biting her lip.
Roy nodded carefully picking up the young child. He pulled the cork of the vial out with his teeth careful not to let the contents touch his lips and he tilted her head back a little so her mouth would open.
Hughes held Ritsuko to keep her back seeing that his old friend was doing his best not to harm the child.
Mitsuko groaned as the liquid started through her blood. He felt the child tense up and mentally cursed realizing he had hurt her.
Ritsuko had pulled away from Maes and grabbed the small girl in her arms holding her close. "Mitsu.. Mits, please stay with me. I know you’re strong enough..." She whispered rocking the crying child. "I’m sorry, I can’t do anything to help you. I’m so sorry Mits." She gently patted her hair lightly.
"Falmon, drive." Roy ordered. /Why the hell are those two still alive? The military got involved too late, and who knows what he allowed to have happen to Fullmetal./ Dark eyes fell on the blonde boy, who sat quietly watching the woman and child. It was clear with how his gloved hands were clenched, the boy was pissed about the situation.
Alphonse stayed quiet, watching the others. He wished he could help calm the child down, her pained cries muffled by the woman’s shoulder.
After a while the cries stopped. The child’s body went limp. Maes looked up alarmed a second, but saw her shoulders hitch a little. /She’s just asleep./ He thought calmly. Ritsuko pulled Hawkeye’s jacket over her shoulders more.
"I... it’s my fault isn’t it?" She asked quietly. "If I hadn’t tried to escape then she wouldn’t have gotten hurt, nor would Edward."
"I’m fine." Ed growled slightly. "I just wish I was able to do more than just break one guy’s nose for what they’ve done." Gold eyes fell on her soft blue ones.
"He’s right. It’s not your fault. Those two should have been put to death for treason long ago." Roy said stiffly looking at the two of them.
"Why?" Ed asked interested in knowing what Roy knew. /Maybe it’ll keep my mind off what happened./ He thought giving a smug grin. /If nothing else, his voice is calming to listen to./
"Then, why were they sent to stop father’s project?" Ritsuko asked, still keeping her voice down as the red head clung to her sleeping.
"I don’t know. I’m sorry for the lapse in the Military’s judgment. If other branches knew what was going on, we would have come sooner and may have been able to save more lives." Roy looked at her. She looked back at the man. "They should have been locked away for war crimes. I would have preferred dead for what they did in Ishval."
"Like what?" Ed asked hoping to learn a little more about what Roy was like before the ‘shell’ he had put up.
"I’d rather not talk about it in mixed company." Roy said flatly. /Please leave it at that Elric.../
/They must have done the same thing to him./ Ritsuko thought noting the slight clench of the older man’s teeth. "That’s why you looked concerned when..." She looked to the floor. "I’m sorry Colonel." She said softly.
/How’d she notice?/ He thought thinking he had kept his mask up perfectly.
"We should get to the next town. The girls should really sleep in a bed." He said changing the subject before things got worse.
"I don’t know... Maybe an Inn would be okay for a few days, at least until the two of you are stronger to travel." Roy said mentally thanking Al for the change. "Does that sound okay to you Miss Ritsuko? If you don’t feel safe we can get you to Central as soon as possible."
/How am I going to repay them for this?/ Ritsuko thought rubbing her wrists lightly. /I don’t have anything that I can pay them with. I know that Mitsuko has some money, but I’m not asking her for any.../ She thought feeling a hand on her arm.
‘You okay?’ Havoc lipped seeing the worried look on her face. She nodded faintly. "If you want to get some sleep go for it.
Ed and Hawkeye were currently talking over him staying near them when they got to the next town.
"Fullmetal, you will be staying near us. That’s an order." Roy said looking at the younger boy. /I’d rather not have anything else happen to you./
"But I still have research to do." Edward whined. /At least I have to keep up the impression I’m fine. They’d worry if I didn’t pick a fight with the bastard Mustang, Hughes would know something was up./ Ed sighed slightly seeing the glare the older man was giving. /Right now though, all I want is a nice long hot bath. If I have to deal with him a while longer, it’s okay.
Roy looked over to Ritsuko waiting for her answer. "Would an Inn be okay?"
"I..." She nodded slightly. "I don’t know how I repay you though..." She blushed.
Roy Mustang gave a sad smile to her. "Don’t worry about it."
Falmon glanced back noting how quiet it had gotten. He saw Havoc, Maes and Mustang were talking softly. The older girl was laying down on a seat, holding her sister in her arms, her head resting on Havoc’s thigh. He was being careful not to wake her. Ed had crashed leaning against his brother, his metal arm draped over his stomach and his hair mussed almost falling from its braid.
Maes glanced at the girls pausing when he noticed a mark on the inside of Ritsuko’s wrist. /She’s one of them.../ He saw Roy was also looking at the mark.
/I thought that there weren’t anymore of them. Or did her ‘father’ just make her.../ Roy thought.
Al stopped Maes from waking his brother. "Let him be oblivious to it for now. I don’t think the two of them know either./ He whispered. Ritsuko stirred a little, pulling the arm back around the little girl.
Envy looked over at Jordan scowling slightly. "Give me one reason why I shouldn’t kill you."
Jordan finished patching up Jan and looked at him.
"Because we can get to him with ease. The nearest town happens to be run by another one that should have been put behind bars. Let’s just say we tend to help each other out." He said calmly. Give them a little time to feel safe and we’ll grab them."
"You’ll be giving them more time than that." A man said stepping out of the woods. "You’ve done enough damage to both girls to last a lifetime."
"Father Rem..."
"You did a mistake Jordan. Be lucky that I’ll need you alive for now."
Envy laughed. "You’ll stop us?"
"You’re the one called Envy right? You’re not one that I want."
"What do you mean?"
"You think you’re the only ones now? Be lucky there’s only two of us. We both have something in common though."
Envy looked at him. "What? Tormenting little boys?"
