Chapter 1. What now?

A loud scream echoed threw Central. From his desk, Roy hears it, Riza too looks up. At the Library, Scieszka pops her head up from a book. The scream is heard all over Central, it is that of Edward Elric as he is hit with the Illusion's attack.

 

From the station, everyone looks up as they hear it. A familiar face in the crowd also looks up, terror in her eyes. `No......ED!' she screamed and ran from the station, knowing something was wrong, she ran right to where she heard the terrifying holler.

Ed slowly opens his eyes, at first not knowing where he is. He sees two people hovering over him, and as he opens his eyes further he realizes that they are his brother and the Illusion Alchemist. `Get out of my face' he told them, and reached out to push them away, but when he realized there was nothing there to push, he sat up in a hurry.

 

`Brother! You're awake, we were so worried...' Alphonse leaned back alittle, though you could not see it - he was scared for his brother. `A-Al? What happened? Why....' Ed was clearly shocked, he wanted to know why he couldn't touch his brother, why he seemed to get further and further away. The Illusion Alchemist then explained what had happened, he said that he had been testing a new transmutation, but it had never worked. He called it the `Curse of the Small' a powerful spell that reforms the human body to make it smaller, so far it had only worked on plants. Ed's eyes widened as he realized that he had gotten in the way when the attack was called, `So I'm....' Al leaned over again, `You're about 5 inches tall, brother.'

 

Before he had time to react, Winry ran into the room and got down on her knees in front of the bed, `Ed! You're ok! You're awake! I was so worried!' She scooped him up in her hands and held him to her chest, `I was afraid....I heard you scream - everyone did...and I was scared I was going to lose you!' Al stepped closer to Winry, `Hey, Winry that might not be a good...' She stopped him and got defensive, `Shut up Al! I was worried! I thought you two were gone!' she screamed as tears poured down her face.

 

Ed was confused, everything was happening so fast, he couldn't take it. Then he realized where he was, being pressed against the middle of Winry's chest like a doll. He blushed and struggled alittle `Winry, put me down! Come on!' She set him back on the bed, `I'm sorry....' she mumbled, then ran out of the room with her face buried in her hands.

 

Then Illusion spoke up again, `As I was saying....I'm afraid, Mr. Elric, that since there has never been a successful test, I do not know how to return you to normal.......' Ed and Al looked shocked, Ed busted out, `What do you mean you can't return me to normal?! DOES THAT MEAN I'M STUCK LIKE THIS?!'

 

He looked back at the brothers, a sad expression on his face, `I'm sorry.......' Ed stepped back, almost losing his balance...Al only stood in shock. Winry, outside the door held her hand to her mouth, and slid down to the ground. Ed looked around, `This.....can't be happening.....there's got to be something we can do.....' Al kneeled down next to the bed, `What now, Brother?'
