[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Authors note: Sorry I didn't put this in before, but I do NOT own Fullmetal Alchemist. This story is a little boring, I know, but it WILL get better sometime during the flashbacks. [Hopefully] Sorry, no lemons, limes, or any kind of citrus in the stock market right now. Anyway, enjoy the story!!!

That night, Kate went to Pinako's house. She really had no other destination or company since Edward was at the office. Her belly began to grow with her baby inside. She and Ed bought a house a few years before. It was a cottage-like home, two stories with a couple acres of land. Kate slowly knocked the wood door, hoping and praying for a better way through this.

The old short woman opened the door with a rag in her right hand. “Hello Kate, nice to see you.”

Pinako didn't know that Kate was pregnant with Edward's baby. Kate was making a mistake by not telling her, in fear of what her reaction might be. Pinako welcomed her into her home and ushered her in the door.

Winry was sitting in the green recliner, when she rose. Her expression on her face was odd. Winry called to Kate, her expression still the same, and motioned her upstairs. She ran up to the second story when she shouted downstairs, “Granny, Kate's staying the night!” She and Kate went into her room, shutting the door behind them.

“Winry? What's wrong?” Kate said in a hoarse tone.

“Granny's going to have to know sooner or later, Kate,” said Winry in sort of a squeaky voice from tiredness.

Kate grimaced. “I know, Winry,” she said, “it's just… What's her reaction going to be when I tell her what happened? I'm only sixteen, Winry. She's not going to be too happy about it.”

“Then why did you do it in the first place? Just tell me that.”

“Well,” Kate's eyes moved away from Winry's, “We just… thought we were ready. That's all.”

“But you weren't, were you?”

Kate let a single tear slip from her eye. She hugged her sisterly friend tightly, having arms wrapped around her in return. She began to cry softly on Winry's shoulder. She spoke in a soft voice, “How can I get by with him not here?”

Winry stroked Kate's back calmly, hoping to sooth her tears. “It's okay. It'll be fine. You can do it, I know you can,” she said with a weak smile, “he'll be home in a few weeks.”

“That stupid idiot!” Kate sobbed.

Winry gasped. “What do you mean?”

“That jerk, he left me here knowing I was pregnant. I know he knew that I would need him sometime during his mission,” Kate squinted and held back the tears, but they came pouring out in sobs.

“Kateland, don't say that. He loves you with all his heart, you know that. He blessed you with his and your baby. He loves you more than anything in the world, Kate.”

“So why won't he come home then?” said the teary voice of Kate.

“Shhhhhhh…” Winry whispered softly. “It'll be okay. He's just busy. You know he has to follow the State's orders. He can't help it.”

Kate's puffy red eyes met Winry's. “So he will come home then, Winry?”

Winry smiled and held Kate close to her, just as a sister would. “Yes, you know he will. He loves you too much for him not to,” she said in a soothing voice to Kate, who nodded her head slightly.

The phone rang. On the third ring, Pinako answered it, “Hello?”

“Hey Pinako, how's in goin'?”

“Edward?”

“Yeah, how is everyone?”

“We're all fine. Winry's here if you want to talk to her. Oh, and Kate's here too.”

“Kate? Yeah lemme talk to her,” said Edward smiling, eager to know more about his pre-born child.

Alright, one minute. Kate?!” Pinako shouted upstairs to Kate, who came running to the first step. “Yes Pinako?”

“Edward's on the phone. He says he needs to talk to you.”

Kate gasped in excitement. “I'll be right there!” she yelled as she ran down the steps. When she got to the phone, she let a small squeal in excitement. “Hello?”

“Hey there.”

“Hi Ed, how are you?”

“I'm fine. Hey, I've got some news,” said Edward in an excited tone.

“Yeah?”

“I get to come home a week early.” Edward smiled

Kate gasped. Now she officially knew that there was hope, for her and the baby. “Really?! Oh my gosh, that's great!”

“Yeah, I know. So uhhh… how's our baby?” Edward smiled as he looked around to see if anyone else was listening, which appeared to be no one..

“Its fine,” said Kate putting her hand on her stomach. She realized that it wasn't safe to carry on the conversation in that room, so she ran up to Winry's room with the phone and shut the door.

“Good…” Edward warmed his smile as he thought of the baby being born and finally getting to see his love again. “Listen Kate… you don't regret ever doing this, do you?”

“No Edward. Why would I ever regret it?” asked Kate as Winry was watching with an `I-told-you-so' smile on her face.

“It's just that,” Edward sighed, “Mustang told me some things…and… Well, I know you're only sixteen and-”

Kate interrupted him, “It's alright, Ed… I'll be okay.”

Edward let a relieved sigh. “That's good… because,” Edward remembered what Mustang had told him, “there's no turning back…”
