Chapter 1: The boy with the golden eyes

Cassandra Renolds woke up to a loud buzzing. It was her alarm clock going off like crazy. She turned it off and yawned.

“I can't believe I stayed up all night!” she thought. She got out of her bed and tripped on her half blonde, half red hair. It was so long that it reached about 3 inches past the soles of her feet. The impact made a heavy thud on the ground.

“Cassie!” yelled a voice from downstairs, “Are you ok?! I heard a loud bump!” Cassie ran downstairs to greet her aunt. She was a tall skinny woman with bright blue eyes and short dark hair. She was already dressed. “Did you fall?” she asked concerned. Cassie smiled and replied, “Yeah. But don't worry, I'm not hurt.” Her aunt looked at her skeptically but smiled. “Well as long as you're not hurt.”

Cassie laughed. “You worry way too much Aunt Rena! I said I'm fine. Where is Dennis?” “I think she he's still sleep. My son can be so lazy at times. Can you wake him up for me?” her aunt replied. Cassie said yes and went to do her task. A devious smiled formed on her face when she reached her Cousin Dennis' room. She was known around the house as a prankster. Dennis was just another one of her victims.

She crept slowly towards his bed trying not to make a sound. She almost forgot that the floorboard was squeaky. Dennis was 2 years older than she was but three years less mature. His dark hair was as black as his mother's. It was sloppy and sticking to his face. Cassie took out a noisemaker from her pajama bottom's pocket. She was just about to sound it off but something knocked it out of her hand. She was so startled that she fell backwards. Dennis opened his eyes and laughed. Cassie was still shocked.

“I'm surprised Cassandra. Usually you'd see that coming!” he said. He looked at her playfully with his blue eyes. Cassie eyed him evilly but laughed trying to play it off. “You just caught me off guard!” Dennis got out of bed and helped her up. They went to the dining room were her aunt was. On the table was breakfast. Cassie was about to eat when her aunt took away her fork.

“No no.” said her aunt. “You know the rules. Wash up first.” Cassie and Dennis complained but obeyed. They knew not to mess with her. Cassie went up to her room's bathroom and took a shower. She put on a sky blue summer dress with red roses and some sandals. After see thought she looked presentable she rushed downstairs to eat. After a few minutes of eating, Cassie went to wash the dishes. Dennis doubled her work load by eating on multiple plates.

“Dennis you idiot! Are you trying to take up my time!?” she yelled angrily. Dennis smiled and shrugged. “Maybe.” After a whole half hour of washing dishes she decided to go back to her room to study her alchemy. She noticed that her books were sprawled all over the room. “Cassandra Renolds!” she thought angrily to herself. “You know better than to do this! If Auntie were to come upstairs to come upstairs to wake you and find out you practice alchemy…” She quickly dismissed the thought labeling it to horrible to think about.
----------------------------------------------------------------- ----------
Edward and his brother Alphonse were walking down an unknown road arguing all the way. “I told you to ask for directions” said Al. Ed wanted to argue some more but he hadn't eaten in 24 hours. Plus it was 93 degrees outside. Half the time Al had to carry him because he fainted from hunger and dehydration. “Please Al. I'm not in the mood. “I'm dying over here.” he said almost in a whisper. He barely made 5 steps before dropping to his knees. “Are you ok?” asked Al full of concern. Ed smiled weakly. “I'm fine. Don't worry I'll be ok.” He struggled to get up. After about more 30 minutes of walking they saw a house in the clearing. “Finally, a house! I gonna finally get something to eat!” Ed cried happily. They walked up to the house and knocked on the door.
Cassie heard a knock on their door. She ran downstairs to answer it but her aunt already got it. She opened the door to find a short blonde boy with golden eyes and a metal suit of armor at her doorway. Cassie saw the blonde boy and blushed slightly. “He's kinda cute…” Her thoughts made her blush more. Her aunt stared at them with concern.

“May I help you with something?” she asked. “Excuse me miss I don't mean to bother you but I am starving. May I have some food?” he asked weakly. She smiled and ushered them in. Cassie noticed Ed's pocket watch gleaming in the sunlight from inside his red cloak. Her shy expression turned to a worried one. “If auntie sees that watch and finds out he's a state alchemist, all hell will break loose.” she thought. “As long as Dennis doesn't come down.” Al caught her staring at them. “Hello.” he said.

Cassie snapped back to reality and blushed slightly, shyness returning. “Hi.” Her cousin Dennis came down stairs. “Oh God. It's over now.” Cassie thought. Dennis looked at Ed. “Hey mom? Who's the short dude and tin can?” Ed fumed but was too weak to yell. “These are our guests so be considerate” his mother said angrily. Dennis looked at Ed with disdain and spotted his watch. Just as his mom was going to fix Ed some food Dennis yelled, “Hey Mom! That guy's a state alchemist!”
