Fushigi Yuugi Fan Fiction / Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Birthday Girl ❯ "Tails" of Old. (wow... i make way too many stupid titles) ( Chapter 5 )

[ X - Adult: No readers under 18. Contains Graphic Adult Themes/Extreme violence. ]
Woot! Fourth chappie! I think I've developed a sort of plot, but I'm not sure. For those of you that are curious about Kumi and Kiki, they're just based off me and my friend Kevin. Kevin's such a sweetie and I can be such a sarcastic bitch ^.^
Anyway, this'll be Boushin attempting to get to know his fiance better! This might be a tad difficult cuz she has Hiei's tendency to not like people for ages before she opens up to them...
Just as a reminder /..../ is thoughts and would be responding through telepathy =^.^=

It had been almost a full month and Boushin wasn't very much closer to knowing anything about Natalie from where he started. All he knew was the basics he'd been given by Kumi or Kiki. They wouldn't go into much detail, saying that he needed to find out this stuff on his own and from her.
"Why didn't anyone tell me this was going to be so damned difficult?!" He asked himself as he sat at the desk in his guest room mulling over the very few things he knew about his bride-to-be in his head. "So I know she likes flowers... That she's half fox demon and a quarter of each ice apparition and fire demon.... She only has plant powers from her fox demon half, and flame from her fire demon part.... Appearantly she likes unicorns.... She focuses a lot of her life on training while the rest is used as spare time for learning and friends... That's it. Nothing that actually tells me much about her personality. Or at least the one that everyone but I seem so see. Perhaps if I can actually manage to spend more time with her it might help..." He mutters and drops his head onto the desk.
"Talking to yourself is something you should trying to avoid, Shin-chan," Kit's voice replies.
Her voice was followed by Nuri's, "People might think you're crazier than we are. Believe me, that's probably not the best thing."
"So! How's it going with 'Operation Flower'?" Kit asked with a chuckle.
"Operation Flower? Where the hell do you two come up with stuff like this, Kit-chan? And it's going horribly, just so you know. I can't seem to find anything about her that aren't just little tidbits of information from either Kumiko or Kiki."
"Well that sucks! But maybe you'd like to know the little tidbit that we found out..." Nuri suggested casually as he sat on Boushin's bed and grinned at the future emporor.
His head picked up at that and he glanced over at his two innocent-looking friends, "Well? Out with it! I haven't been able to figure out anything all bloody month!"
"Awww! Our little Shin-chan is growing up, Nuri! Going to be getting married in the spring and now he's chasing after his fiance like a love sick puppy! I think I'm going to cry!" Kit exclaimed melodramatically, laying her head on the crossdresser's shoulder.
Nuri sweatdrops before answering, "She's planning on spending the day home for once instead of going off and training. Appearantly, she's developed enough to earn her third tail and her parents are making her stay inside and relax for a while. I'd say that's a pretty good time to talk to her and get to know her better. There are only six months left until spring and you'll need them all to get to know each other."
"Hai... Demo... I want to learn as much as I can about her before then. There's just too much about her to be able to even learn a fraction before spring. Especially since she seems to be a never-ending maze of personality changes and quirks. I think I'll have a permenent headache by the time I have her even a quarter of the way unraveled."
"I have to agree, she's quite the puzzle, but you'll figure her out eventually, Shin-chan!" Nuri replies cheerfully before picking up Kit and heading towards the door. "Just make sure you spend as much time with her as possible without annoying the shit out of her! C'mon, Kit-chan. Let's go find Chiri!"
"Nuri-kun! I can walk, you know! That's what these two things sticking out of my lower body are for!"
"What what is for, no da?" Aforementioned monk asks confusedly.
"My legs, Chiri-koi. They're made for walking, not being carried by my crossdressing best friend," She clarifies with a pout at Nuri.
This earns a chuckle from the blue haired man, "I'll take her from here, Nuriko, no da. I was planning on spending time with her today for once, na no da."
Nuri just smiles and tosses her into his arms before glancing back at Boushin, "Just go with it and you both can learn more about each other, Shin-chan."
He nods before standing and following them out, separating to go to different rooms. Making his way to Natalie's room, he knocks on the door and waits to be allowed in.
"The door's open. Come in."
"Hello, Natalie..." The prince started hesitantly. "I was thinking that since you're going to be here for a while that I might come up and get a chance to know you better.... I mean, we only have about half a year to learn more about each other, and marrying a complete stranger probably doesn't sound all that great."
She seems to consider this for a minute from her place sitting on the window seat facing the garden, "You're right, I suppose. Marrying one I know nothing about might seem weird to other people. Come and sit over here, then." She adds, patting the spot next to her on the seat without looking away from the window.
When he sits down she finally looks away from the garden and gives him a critical look before noding to herself. /I wonder what she just decided on.../ He thought to himself.
"I've decided that I like you, Boushin," The kitsune states looking him in the eye. "And since I've decided this, it means that you need to stop tiptoeing around me as if I'm going to bite your head off. It also means that I'm not going to be a complete bitch to you or around you any more, seeing as I don't think there's a reason for it."
Boushin can only sit in a semi-stunned silence after that mini speech for a few minuites. He blinks before finally remembering to say something, "Thank you. I'm glad you feel that you can trust me enough to open up so quickly, but how did you decide to tell me this when you've only seen me occasionally during the day?"
She shrugs a little before answering, "I didn't until just now. You're one of the few people who have actually come to me and openly expressed an interest in getting to know me, despite the fact that I was occasionally nice, but most of the time I was a bitch. Doing that, you've proven that you realized that side of me wasn't the actual me."
With that, she turns back and looks out over the garden, seeming to give each plant a warm look. Boushin watches her for a minute in silence before finally speaking, "You really like plants, don't you?"
Smiling, she looks back at him before answering, "I love them. They've been my friends and protectors since I was little. I planted that garden myself a few years ago. It bloomed nicely and has stayed that way, growing a bit more every year. I think I'll plant climbing ivy this year around spring. The only thing that bothers me about living in the ningen-kai is that I won't be able to take care of my garden..."
After that she seems to sadden slightly. She goes back to watching over her beloved flowers and sighs slightly. He decides to hopefully lighten the mood a little and make her feel better, "You can always replant them in the castle's garden and take care of them. Or you could create your own garden somewhere on the grounds."
She gives him the first genuine smile he'd seen from her since he'd arrived, "I'd like that. Thank you, Boushin."
"It's no problem, Nat. I don't want to to be miserable and worrying about your flowers until you came to visit...." He starts before pausing a moment in his statement. "I want you to be happy at the palace, hence why I really don't care who you practice your thieving skills on."
"I think I'll stick to swipping things from the advisors you and your father seem to hate so much. They do at least have challenging locks, right? I can't exactly hope to find entertainment in simple locks that any first-try lock pick could break into." Boushin nods just as Aisu jumps into his lap and looks balefully at him. The small fox tilts his head at the prince and almost seems to pout a little. Natalie chuckles before replying to the questioning look Boushin was giving her, "That's normally where Aisu curls up when I'm sitting here. In his eyes, he probably thinks you're trying to kick him out of his spot. Come here, Aisu." She finishes, patting her lap to indicate that the fox should curl up in her lap. He does this and purrs as she scratches behind his ears.
"I didn't know foxes could purr. I thought they were a kind of dog, not cat," Boushin states somewhat confusedly.
"I think they're a combination of both more than just one. They can purr, but they can also bark, strangely enough."
"Then they're just small, strange creatures to me, I suppose. So what're we going to do? Just sit here and do nothing, or is there something specific you have planned?"
"Actually, I was just going to relax until later tonight. It's the full moon and I'm getting my third tail. A few of the people who're here are invited to see if you wanted to come," She suggested casually, seeming to not really care what his answer was.
"Ok, I don't have anything else planned for today. What time is it at? Midnight or something?" He asks as a joke.
"Actually, yes. Midnight tonight in the clearing just outside the Den," She replies with a small smile, secretly happy that he said he'd be there. True to what Kiki and Kumi had told Boushin earlier that month, Natalie had begun to like him soon after he'd arrived, but wasn't going to be the one that started even a friendship between her and her betrothed.
"So what to do until then? There's not much else to do but sit here until tonight."
"Daddy told me that I have to stay in my room for the rest of the day. Said I should be relaxing. I swear that he'll work himself into an early death if he keeps freting over everything I do. One would think that he was the one that was the mother, instead of dad," She answers with a roll of her eyes.
Later that night, after spending the rest of the day getting to know each other more, Natalie had Boushin leave so she could get ready for later. She layed out the loose, almsost robe-like clothing she would change into and runs a bath while she gets her candles and insence so she could relax as much as she can before midnight.
"Only four more hours. Time to get this little part of the ritual over with(1)," The fox says to herself before adding some bubble bath and getting into the tub.
After lighting the candle and insence, she relaxes into the tub and just enjoys the scent of the soft combination of the vanilla candle, rose insence, and lavender bubble bath as they wash over her. A few minutes of just leaning against the edge go by before she washes her hair and body and gets out to dry herself off.
She walks back into her room wearing a fuzzy blood red robe and flops into a chair with a book and reads for the next few hours before standing and getting the clothes she pickes out from on top of her dresser. Slipping on the flowing black pants and the deep red tank top, she lets her hair down from the pony tail she'd put it in while it dried.
The others wait downstairs for her. Boushin stares a little when she finally comes down, looking and acting graceful compared to her usual violent self. She smiles at him and then at the others, "Time to go, then?"
Kurama smiles and answers, "Yes, let's get going."
The small group consisting of Kurama, Hiei, Kiki, Kumi, Boushin, and finally Natalie walk out the door and into the little field that's out hehind the den. Kiki, Kumi and Boushin stand off to the sides while Hiei, Kurama, and Natalie move to the middle. Everything is still for a few moments before Natalie strips completely and changes into her fox form. The few quick seconds that she's nude, Boushin blushes deeply and looks to see if either of the other two teens had any reaction. They didn't. /Must be something about demons to not have modesty about their bodies or something.../
Once again, everything was silent for a couple minutes before the full moon was directly over the field and was shining above Natalie who was laying down serenely between her sitting parents. Barely a second after this happens, Natalie herself begins to glow, surrounded by a greenish halo of light. A soft screech comes from her before a third tail joins her other two, twitching slightly. A few minutes later, the light ends and Natalie turns her head to look at the new addition to her small, yet growing, collection. She then turns and looks at Boushin with green eyes that look like they should be too large for her head before collapsing and falling unconscious.
Kurama picks her up gently and walks over to Boushin, offering the prince the sleeping kitsune so he could carry her back to the house. He accepted her in his arms and is careful not to wake her as he walks back into the house.
"Gaining a tail takes a lot of energy. Especially when you're already going through a slightly emotionally confusing time. You've stumped her, Boushin. She's never known a human aside from Keiko and my family who has been so accepting of her, let alone actually making an attempt to know her better," Kurama says to him with a warm smile. "Keep it up, and she'll openly tell you that she likes you soon enough."
Givign a small smile of his own, Boushin strokes the fur on top of Natalie's head as she sleeps, "At least I made friends. That's all I was aiming for so far."
He carried her upstairs and as he got near her room, she changed back into her human form. Blushing the entire time, he dressed her in the set of pajama's set out on her bed. When that was done, he pulled back the blankets and set her down on the matress and covering her up. He sits down in the chair next to her bed for a few minutes and just watches her sleep. Smiling, he stands again after a few minutes and kisses her forehead.
"Good night, Natalie. I'll see you in the morning."

So! That's chappie four! I'm sorry to my actually dedicated readers that it took so long, but I have a research paper to do. So don't be surprised if it takes me even longer to do the next one.
(1.) Whenever Wiccans perform rituals, a lot of them like to take cleansing baths with bubble bath, candles, and incense. It's used as a symbol of washing away any stress or negative emotions you're feeling. I just happen to use that particular combination when I'm doing this ^_^
