Jennifer's eyes grew wide, once again, at Mark's words, 'How could he say that?' she thought as she saw him back away, as if fearful of her. A smattering of a half-thought flew through her mind and her eyes narrowed. She took a closer look at exactly what Mark was wearing, and upon noting the obviously not-normal clothes she turned around slowly to see her surroundings. They were in the middle of a desert, or so it seemed and there seemed to be nothing around them, except for more dunes. Laying on the ground, very close to where she and Mark were standing, was a girl wearing far less than was socially acceptable anywhere. A pile of clothes, obviously the girl's, was lying on the ground a short ways away. Turning her head in the other direction, Jennifer saw the man who had grabbed her. He was covered in garish make-up and was wearing very strange clothes, even considering what Mark was wearing. She gasped in sudden recognition as everything fell into place. She slowly turned back to "Mark" and looked him in the eyes, "You're Amiboshi."

He seemed more surprised by her words than she herself was at finding herself in this weird perversion of the Universe of the Four Gods. He nodded his answer, obviously unable to speak. Her mind whirled in thought and confusion as she stood there, trying to remember what was supposed to happen next. She scoped the land surrounding them, not really seeing it, while she tried to think. She walked slowly over to the edge of the dune that was behind where Tomo had been standing. Looking down she was relieved to see Tamahome struggling up the other side, trying to reach Miaka. She turned back to Amiboshi. He was still at a loss and didn't seem to know what to do, so he just had his left hand cradled in his right and held close to his chest. Jennifer shook her head and walked over to Miaka, picking up the rest of the poor miko's clothes as she went. When she reached her prone figure, Jennifer turned her over and started redressing her.

The desert heat was just beginning to bother Jennifer, who still wore Mark's letterman's jacket, when Tamahome finally topped the dune. Jennifer turned to Amiboshi then and said in a tone that left no room for argument, "Use your link with Suboshi and try to figure out how far away he and Nakago are. They are coming here, I know that much, I want you to find out how much time we have." He nodded, he was still obviously confused, but thankfully he knew when to follow orders and when to ask questions. While she had been dealing with him, it had given Tamahome a chance to kneel before Miaka's side and attempt to wake her up. He looked terribly sad and desolate, as if he believed that they could never be together. Given what Jennifer knew about what had recently happened between them she wasn't surprised by the expression. She went back over to where they were and spoke quietly, as if speaking too loudly would draw Suboshi and Nakago to the place with greater haste.

"She was never raped by Nakago, and neither was Yui by those men. Nakago has only convinced them both of their impurity to suit his own ends. When she wakes up she will still believe that she has though... I'm not sure how to persuade her otherwise... I think that it is something that you could work out." He nodded at her words and gently picked his beloved off of the sand and together they went over to where Amiboshi stood, looking out at the desert.

"They are a ways away, as of yet. But they know where they are going. I think that we should leave here as soon as possible." Jennifer was a little surprised that he was able to speak without pain coloring his tone. "What are we to do now Jennifer-san?" She mentally sighed at the "san" but said nothing about it.

"I believe that we should go find the other Suzaku Seishi, they are over in that direction," She said pointing to the direction opposite to the one that Amiboshi faced, "they should be waking up from Tomo's illusions about now." The two men nodded and she continued after taking a deep breath, "I also think that you," she said pointing to Amiboshi, "should get a message to Suboshi telling him to stop following you."

Tamahome almost interrupted her and spoke loudly, "Exactly how is he supposed to do that? Just go wait for him here? Or maybe, he should play a tune and hope his brother hears and understands?" She glared at him with such heat that he backed away a step and a half. She stood with all of her dignity that she had trained into herself since she first became Drum Major more than two years before.

"He knows how, and it doesn't involve leaving him behind or doing some other such stupid thing," she practically hissed out the words. "And when we do, eventually, use Suboshi's help to aid us, you will be civil, or you will pay the consequences. He was in a trapped position and under Nakago's mechanisms could do nothing else." Amiboshi had a look of pure confusion on his face and Jennifer didn't bother explaining her words, only gestured roughly for Tamahome to start off in the direction that she had indicated earlier. He growled, but complied with her wishes, stepping off into the sand.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

<br&g t;
Amiboshi shook his head in confusion. He had absolutely no idea what was going on. Jennifer, this girl, straight out of his dreams was here and ordering Tamahome around like some sort of general. Of course, in his dreams he had always thought that others viewed her as so, though why was a little complicated. He also had no idea what she was talking about to Tamahome about his being civil to his brother and all of that nonsense about something that his brother had done that was supposedly not of his own will. He wondered what it was that Shun-chan had done and shivered at the memory of the look that Tamahome had had when she had first mentioned Suboshi's name. Obviously it was something very bad, but he couldn't imagine his twin doing anything that bad.

He noticed that he was falling a little behind and moved a little faster to catch up with them. He fell into step next to Jennifer and she walked a pace behind Tamahome who was trying to walk quickly without jolting Miaka very much. Amiboshi guessed by her expression that the slow pace was bothering her, along with who knew what else, but he didn't say anything. He was having a hard enough time trying to sort everything out on his own. He had no clue how Jennifer had manifested from his dreams and he was slightly worried because in his dreams, she hadn't known him as Amiboshi, she hadn't even known the name even existed as far as he knew. He was also confused as to how she knew all about what was happening around here, he didn't even know what was going on. But the piece of knowledge that bothered him the most what that she knew of the intimate link that he and Suboshi shared... She even seemed to know about how they shared injuries to an extent... He sighed before speaking.

"Jennifer-san, how do you know so much about this place? In my dreams you didn't know anything about the real me of my home or the affairs or anything and now you seem to know more than I do. I don't understand." She didnÕt answer him right away and Amiboshi suspected that she was contemplating how much to tell him.

"Ami-chan, it's hard to explain. Let me start by saying that I knew the whole time about everything that was going on over here, I just didn't know that... You and Mark were the same person... Sort-of. The world I come from is like Miaka's world except that the people in my world think that Miaka's story is just that- a story. Someone wrote it down and called it Fushigi Yuugi." She sighed, thinking of how to explain it, "It's a very popular story and thousands of people have read it. I asked, yo- Mark, if he wanted to read it, but he didn't, otherwise, I think that you would have known too." She put her hand on her head as if to rub the thoughts to the surface. She grimaced a bit, but didnÕt add anything.

"So you mean that in your world you have... documentation, of what happened here and what will happen here in the future?" He tried to comprehend the idea, but just couldn't grasp it.

"Sort-of... Not exactly though. We have documentation of what would have happened if I had never interfered. As of about an hour ago I've been walking blind and guessing what would work out best given what I do know. You know that I used to read a lot right?" She looked over at him, and he surprised himself by blushing, before nodding assent, "Well, after reading about so many things, I think that there is a good chance that certain things will happen if I make certain decisions. It's really hard though, because I don't know everyone well enough to judge their reactions." He was unreasonably upset when Tamahome interrupted the conversation.

"You mean you're thinking like Chiriko right? Like when he's doing tactics with Hotohori, just you're thinking of how people will react, not armies? Right?" She grinned happily at his words and Amiboshi felt a surge of jealousy. She was his Dream girl.

"That's it exactly. To tell the truth I was just thinking of Chiriko right now... We should be coming across them anytime now." She moved up, so that she was walking level with the other warrior, "How is Miaka doing? The shock must have been pretty bad." Amiboshi sighed; he had lost her attention for the time being. It was better to try to think of what Shun-chan could have done to make Tamahome get that look in his eyes.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~</c enter>

Jennifer talked to Tamahome a little about what she knew about what was going on with Miaka. He was shocked and very angry when she described the illusion that Tomo had put her under. She had been shocked when she had first read of it, so she wasn't very surprised to find that Tamahome wanted blood. She sighed and he looked down at her with surprise written all over his features. She explained herself, "Well, Tamahome, it's just very involved. Everything that is going on right now is more complex than it seems and you can't go riding on your emotions... That's how people get killed." She didn't even notice her own tone until Tamahome pointed it out.

"Why does that make you so sad? Have you lost anyone?"

"No, but... In the story of Miaka's time here... It said that everyone died in the end. All except for Miaka, Yui, Tasuki and Chichiri. Everyone else, you, Ami-chan, everyone just- died. That's how it ended." She looked mournfuly up at him. "That's one of the reasons why I'm glad that I'm here. I can try to stop most of the deaths, even if I can't save Nuriko." Jennifer felt a tear fall past her eye, but wiped it away before Tamahome could notice. But apparently Amiboshi noticed, because before she could react, she felt his right arm around her shoulders, his left still held to his chest. She looked gratefully up at him and leaned into him as they continued on their way, trying to find the other Seishi.

They continued like that, Amibohi's arm around her and Tamahome craddling Miaka close to his chest, until they heard very loud, fluent and profuse swearing coming from the other side of the dune that they were trying to climb over. Jennifer, being the most healthy and least burdened, ran up the slope and called down to them, "Hey Fang-boy! Shut your mouth and get the lot of you over here. We have some wounded that need attention pronto!" She could see Tasuki blink at her until Tamahome came up next to her. When he apparently saw his friend he let out an inarticulate yell and led the other three to where they waited. She looked behind her and sighed in relief that Amiboshi was staying on the other side for now. At this distance they would obviously assume that he was Suboshi and that would be very bad indeed. She walked over to him and looked at his hand herself. "Hmmm....."

"Umm.. Jennifer-san, why do you keep calling me Ami-chan?" She blinked a little in confusion and looked up at him.

"Oh, that. I call you Ami-chan because I've known you for a while... Sort-of, and you've known me just as long in that same strange way, and besides, there are too many Boshi's. There's you and Shun-chan, and Miboshi who we haven't met yet. He's the last Seiryu Seishi, I think." She shook her head and looked back over to where the Suzaku Seishi were hammering Tamahome with questions about what was going on. She smiled and then looked back at Amiboshi, "Why don't we go save him before they eat him alive?"

He grinned back, if a little evilly, an expression that she had never expected to see on his face, he was the good twin, "Alright, but only if you promise to tell me what Shun-chan did to Tamahome." Her expression fell a bit, but she turned away before he could demand an immeadiate explanation. She really didn't want to have to tell him. Jennifer knew that if he was told by anyone other than Tamahome or his brother himself, he would never truely believe... She only hoped that her not telling him wouldn't force Tamahome to do the job.

She walked up to the crowd of Seishi and almost flinched at their expressions. They obviously didn't know what to make of her and this late in the game, they didn't feel like giving her the benefit of the doubt. Miaka was stirring now, thank K¾lar, Jennifer's own patron god. Tamahome shooed everyone, except for Mitsukake, away from his fallen beloved. They then moved in on her and she tried as hard as she could to resist the urge to crouch down away from their eyes. They were all much taller than she was, Chiriko of course, was shorter, but that was to be expected. Tasuki stepped forward, red hair flaming and tessan brandished. She was quivering inside, but used all of her discipline learned from four years of marching band to stare him straight in the eyes and stand as tall as her short height would allow. "Who exactly, gave you premission to call me "Fang-boy"?"

She found the question so absurd and relieving that she burst out laughing, though it was probably a bad idea to make fun of the hot-headed, tessen weilder, she really couldn't help it at this point. There was just too much stress and tension. The other Seishi joined in with her laughter and Tasuki grinned widely. "Ya jus look'd like ya thought we were gonna eat ya. Had ta do somethin'." She flushed, embaressed, of course they weren't going to just kill her on sight... Besides, she was from Miaka's world... Sort-of. She tutned back to see Amiboshi shake his head before walking over to Mitsukake to get his hand fixed.

Chichiri stepped forward and turned her away from the group a bit, "Does Amiboshi know all that has transpired while he was gone, no da?" She looked into his masked face and sighed a little.

He knows most of it I think. I don't know how much Miaka told him before I found him. But he doesn't know about Tamahome's family and I didn't think that it was my place to tell him." Chichiri nodded.

"That was a good decision. He should hear it either from Tamahome or his brother himself, otherwise he might not believe it, no da." Jennifer tried and failed to guess his expression under the mask. "How is it that you know about all of this, no da. According to what Tamahome said, you just arrived here a few hours ago, no da." She sighed, she would have to explain again... And she would have to say how she had gotten there.

"Can you wait? I want to tell everyone at the same time... It's rather complicated and involved..."

"And painful?" Chichiri asked, completely serious for once. She could only nod. Her thoughts of Mark were hurting her head. She didn't know what was going on, between her world and this one, all that she knew was that when Mark woke up, he'd have bigger problems than her. Because, how does someone explain whatever happened to his girlfriend who "disappeared" after going to their house?

"Thanks to iloveredheadswithfangs for reviewing, once again. I'll try to keep Tasuki in as much as possible, but it's kind of up in the air right now. I know I said Sunday for this update, but I couldn't wait to get it out. Look for the next one by the end of next week!"
-Tk.DuVeraun
