Chapter Two
The danger of a Feeling
"Please sit down" Aime pointed to the chairs around the table "can I pour any of you a drink? Wine perhaps?"
"I could really use sake!" Tasuki said, and the others agreed.
"Oh no!" Aime said "I'm not pouring Sake to a child"
"No" Chiriko said "I would like a glass of water, to much sake is bad for you anyway"
"Ah, a smart child" Aime grinned at Chiriko "May I ask your age?"
"Sure!" Chiriko answered her "I'm 13"
"My… so young and so wise" Aime said, but as she saw Chiriko's sad face she tried to cheer him up "Come on, Doukun, if I remember right?"
Chiriko nodded as Aime continued "Being young isn't bad, I mean, you can still do so much, see so many. Cheer up!"
Her warmth effected Chiriko, he began to like her.
But at that very moment he realized there was something fake to her kindness.
Chichiri also noticed "Shall I help you to pour the wine and carry the glasses, no da?"
"How kind of you Houjun, I would appreciate that!" Aime answered
Actually it wasn't just Chichiri's kindness that made him offer it, more his fear of what would end up in the drinks if he didn't.
Chichiri and Aime came into the kitchen, and Aime gave Chichiri a bottle of wine, a can of water and 5 glasses.
"Would you please be so kind as to pour them in for me Houjun, then I can look for the scroll in the mean time.
Chichiri first made sure the glasses where perfectly clean, before pouring the water and wine in them.
Aime opened a small drawer in a chest that stood in the kitchen.
Chichiri's suspicion started to grow "Why would one hid such an important scroll in a kitchen drawer?" Yet, he didn't ask a thing of her, the most important thing now was getting to know Shinzahou's location.
In the mean time in the dining room, the other sat talking about Aime.
"I don't think we should trust her!" Chiriko said "She just is to kind, letting her into her house…"
"….And she just happens to know Shinzahou's location" Mitsukake filled in.
"So, we're in luck! Dontcha think?" Tasuki didn't understand what the problem was.
Aime had been treating them so sweet, even thou everything he did to her.
"Anyway" Chiriko continued "We should inform Chichiri as well to be careful, as soon as we can speak with him private"
"And even thou you trust Aime, watch your guard!" Mitsukake told Tasuki
"Alright! You guy's can stop lecturing me now… geez, like I'm some child!"
At that moment Aime returned with Chichiri, and a scroll.
"Ah, so we can finally get to business" Tasuki said to her, and got hit by Chiriko's leg under the table
"Act nice!" Chiriko whispered to him
"I thought you guys didn't like her!?" Tasuki whispered back
"We have to act like we do, at least in this stage of the game" Chiriko explained
"Is there a problem?" Aime asked
"N-no, not at all, actually we where gossiping about Houjun!" Tasuki answered as he grinned to Chichiri.
Aime sat down and rolled out the scroll "This scroll used to be my grate-grandmother's she has witnessed the ceremony, from the outside at least"
Aime started reading the scroll and after that she displayed a small map of the county on it, and pointed to a spot at the east of it.
"This is where Shinzahou should be, thou… do be careful, it has been guarded not only by the palace guards, but by Byako spirits as well, or so it says here."
After the words the seishi wanted to hear where out, a conversation about several subject followed.
Thou everyone went to sleep early, with the thought Shinzahou would be theirs, tomorrow.
No matter how much Tasuki tried, he couldn't get a wink of sleep. Something bothered him, not just the thing that he owed this girl 500 golden ryo. That could have been the least of his sorrows, but she just seemed so… nice… Even thou he burned all that fruit, she hadn't been mad for long. Was it just her kindness, or was there more to it? And what was it about the introduction…not safe to give his name? He had to be careful.
Tasuki stood up, sat on the edge of his bed for a moment, then walked out of the room quietly, scared to wake the others. Carefully he opened the door to the kitchen and got blinded by the sudden ray of light.
"Who's there!?" It was Aime. Quickly she hid something in a drawer, then turned to face Tasuki.
"I just went… um… you couldn't sleep as well, could you?"
"Well," Aime told him. "It was something about meeting you guys today that I just couldn't get out of my head."
"Oh no," Tasuki thought. "She must have figured out we are seishi…" He felt an uncomfortable atmosphere, as if something was wrong.
Aime took a step closer toward Tasuki. `Okay Aime, now or never,' she thought. `I might never find out what it is if I don't do this now…'
Tasuki poured in a glass of water and began to drink as Aime took another step toward him. She put her hand on his face, and wiped away a drop of water on his chin.
Her face was really close to his, and she put her other hand around his waist and kissed his lips.
As soon as Tasuki started kissing back, she knew what the feeling was… it was love, it felt so right, but she knew it was wrong.
Aime kept holding onto Tasuki for a short moment, but she realized, she would hurt them both if she would react to what she was feeling.
As tears welled up in her eyes she whispered into Tasuki's ear "I cannot do this… farewell, I love you"
She shortly squeezed his hand and ran away crying and slamming with the door behind her.
