Chapter 3. The Accident

By: Gator Ri

Stretching and yawning Houjun woke up to the sound of guards yelling and cell doors slamming. Sitting up he stretched more, feeling stiff from spending the night curled up on the cold floor. He shivered a bit from the dampness as it seeped into his already cold bones.

"Well, look who's a wake," a gruff voice smirked.

Blinking his eye the blue headed boy looked up to see one of the other occupants looking at him. Narrowing his chocolate eye, Houjun scowled and ignored the comment, not really wanting to start anything.

"What's wrong are you too good for us?" the same gruff voice asked.

He shook his head slowly, long blue bangs swaying with the motion. He didn't feel like talking to anyone, especially strangers, his left eye was stinging sharply which was starting to give him a headache.

"Can you speak? Or are you too dumb?"

"Leave him alone, " a smaller man commented.

"Why should I?"

"Heh, can't you tell?"

"Tell what?" the gruffer man turned to look at the smaller one.

"He has that look, that look of never being in prison before."

Houjun looked at the floor, was he really that easy to read?

The gruff man looked back down at the top of Houjun's head as he shrugged, "Aw-"

The man was cut off by a guard coming up and looking into the cell, "Li Houjun?"

Houjun's head snapped up at the sound of his name, "Nani?"

The guard smirked, "It's time for you to go on a little road trip to home sweet home." He brought out his keys and unlocked the cell door. Coming in he looked down at the boy on the floor, "Stand up," he snapped.

Houjun started to get to his feet but with a headache coming and his muscles being cold and stiff he was having a hard time moving, but obviously the guard couldn't understand this as he literally drug Houjun to his feet. Whirling him around the guard pushed him roughly up against the wall.

"Hey why don't you be more careful with the poor kid," the smaller man spat.

The guard glared at the prisoner who would dare speak to him like that, "Because scum like you don't deserve respect!" Slapping the cuffs on Houjun's wrists, non-too gently mind you, he took the blue headed boy by the arm and drug him out of the cell backwards.

The two that were left behind looked after Houjun actually feeling sorry for him.

Houjun winced, the cuffs were too tight and they were rubbing against sores on his wrists from having the steel bracelets put on too often, but he bore his pain in silence not wanting to give the smart ass guard any more cause to treat him rougher. After being drug down a few corridors the guard stopped in front of a room and opening the door pushed his charge inside before him. "Sit down!"

Houjun stumbling forward from the shove looked up and saw a chair and a table in the room with a big mirror in one end. Walking to the chair he did as told.

"Now stay put." The guard said as he left, the door clicking shut behind him.

Houjun sighed as he let his chin fall against his chest, the stubble on his chin prickling as it touched the material of the prisoner uniform. Life wasn't looking good for him. He didn't know how long he could take this kind of treatment, his soul was too gentle for it all. The emotional overload of the last few months was starting to take its toll, heavily. He blinked his chocolate eye trying to beat back both the physical and emotional pain. Hearing the door open and shut he looked up to see the guard return with a clean uniform and a tray of food. The plates and forks were plastic of course.

"Here, change and eat." The guard said as he came to take the cuffs off, "Don't try anything funny either." He said as he pointed at the mirror, to let the prisoner know he was being watched, smirking the guard left.

Houjun blinked his eye looking at the dried out eggs and too crispy bacon, so this was his life. He rubbed his wrists gingerly, hating the ass holes who treated him and the other prisoners like scum. No matter what he had done he was still human, didn't that deserve a little respect?

Shaking his head free of his thoughts he stripped off the dirty uniform he wore. Picking up the clean one all he could think was *the least they could do is give out a clean pair of boxers* Donning the bright orange uniform he looked at the food. Not really hungry but knowing he should eat, he sat down and picked at the food he had been given. Besides the headache he was getting was starting to make him sick, which didn't make his appetite very good.

Coming back in about ten minutes later the guard curled his lip at the prisoner, "You're an ungrateful son of a bitch aren't you?" he snarled upon noticing that most of the food was still on the tray.

Houjun shook his head so slightly one had to strain to see it move, "Iie, sir."

"hmph," the guard grumped as he came over and made Houjun stand up. He put the cuffs back on, just as tight as before, "Well, it's time for the little birdie to migrate to it's new home." The man laughed meanly, "After all, we all know that little birdies belong in a cage."

Houjun scowled deeply, he was really beginning to feel irritated, which was a very bad thing.

Taking Houjun by the arm the guard opened the door and half drug him to where he had entered the prison the day before. Putting him in a cell with about ten other prisoners the guard left, after taking off the cuffs.

Houjun sighed in relief as he again rubbed the sores on his wrists, although he knew that the next one could be just as bad or worse.

A few minutes late three guards came over, "All right, lets get them checked off, cuffed, and loaded so that we can get this show on the road!" The Sgt. hollered at the other two.

Nodding the other two guards went right to work. One going and getting leg arms and the other standing at the cell, pulling out each prisoner to be cuffed, both arms and legs, as their names were called.

"Li Houjun!" the Sgt. Bellowed.

Coming to the front of the cell Houjun was taken out and given over to the guy with the leg arms.

Strapping a belt to Houjun's waist the guard, cuffed his hands in front, and then put the others on his legs, for once they weren't too tight. This made Houjun blink his eye slowly.

"Alright get a move on," the guard gave the prisoner a gentle shove towards the door where yet another guard waited.

The door guard looked at Houjun with a bit of a sad look, "Well, get walking boy."

Relieved that he was not being dragged for once, the boy readily complied and took the baby steps that the cuffs on his legs allowed him, out the door to the waiting bus with the guard on his heels.

Going up the steps he looked at the bus, with a cage wall at the front to separate driver from it's passengers and one in the back as well. The windows had wire mesh in them, the only thing that the upholder's of the law were afraid of were the law breaker's escaping.

"You sit there," the guard said from behind pointing to one of the foremost seats.

Shuffling down the aisle he sat in the seat that was appointed to him and slid to the window so that he could stare out it. He knew that there would be a long ride ahead and that this would be the last time he would see this much of the outside world for a very long time.

After another half hour of sitting there the rest of the prisoners were finally loaded, which tallied to a bout ten, and the three guards, that had been chosen for escort, had finally got their thumbs out of their ass and boarded as well.

Houjun sighed, happy to finally be moving, for just sitting there let his mind stew over all that had happened and he really wanted distractions at the moment, after all he would have the rest of his life to think about the actions that he had chosen.

As he watched the world whiz by through out the day the boy listened to the conversation that the guards held, being just close enough to hear it. Most of it disgusted him and made him want to punch them. All they cared about was dropping the load off, the prisoners, and going out for a drink. Plus they had to discuss each and every prisoner's crime and dissect it, with rude comments about the person as well.

"You guys should go check on the prisoners," the driver suggested as he watched the road through the help of headlights, since it was now just after sunset.

The two nodded and stretched as they got out of their seats. Digging out his keys one of the guards unlocked the cage door and they started to walk towards the back of the bus to check on the prisoners.

The driver gasped as he felt a pain rip through him and he couldn't breath. He grimaced as more pain ripped through him and he suddenly let out a soft cry as he slumped over the steering wheel, falling to the left as he went. His foot relaxed, pressing down on the accelerator making the bus gain in speed.

The sudden weight on the one side of the steering wheel caused the speeding bus to quickly swerve into the other lane of traffic, thankfully there was no one coming.

"What the hell is going on?!" one of the guards yelled as he grabbed on to a seat to help keep himself balanced. Looking towards the front of the bus horror struck his face as he saw the driver slumped over the wheel.

"Oh shiiiiiiiit!" the other exclaimed he lost his footing upon the bus hitting into a guard rail and running along side it at a precarious angle.

Houjun's eye widened as he saw the ground rushing up at him, the bus losing its balance as it toppled over the railing and rolled down a steep hill.

Screams of pain could be heard as the bus hit on each of it's sides, glass shattering and inserting itself into the bodies of the passengers as bones could be heard snapping, and bodies slamming into one another.

Houjun grimaced as he hit the sharp dented metal, making the headache that he had lived with through out the day worse. Tears of pain squeezed out from his eye as he was then slammed into a couple of the seats, a rib our two cracking on impact.

Sparks flew as the lights were smashed into and shattered, burning some of the passengers as they flew.

After what seemed like hours the monster came to rest at the bottom of the steep incline it had just rolled down, it's passengers groaning as they were allowed to lay still.

The guards tried to get up to help keep the prisoners at bay but since they had been standing they had taken the worst of the damage and lost themselves to darkness.

The prisoners that could walk and move, although in pain, took advantage of this and quickly relieved the guards of their keys and themselves of their restraints.

Houjun laid there in the mess, in pain and bleeding profusely out of his already injured eye, watching the others not caring whether he lived or died.

Coming over a big black guy undid the boy's restraints, "There you're free to go now," he said this without much emotion. Dropping the keys he and others that were just getting unlocked quickly made their exit out of one of the broken windows.

Houjun watched blearily as he was unlocked but he made no move to escape, if he was going to escape he would do it by death and death alone. He grimaced as his whole body throbbed with overwhelming physical pain. "Suzaku…" he forced out, not really realizing the name he called to as darkness over took him and he unwillingly went into the dreams of his sins, while his life's blood pooled around his head an body.
