Title: "To Make You Forget"

Summary: Chichiri had his heart broken, and his mind ravished ¬ what can help him forget? Takes place before the summonings take place.

A/N: This is a "WHAT-IF" fic, in that I realize that this isnºt how it originally wentand I know that Miaka didnºt find out about Chichiriºs face until right now - but I am hoping that you will be kind enough to forgive the creative license that I have taken with this story. This was inspired by reading great stories pairing Chichiri with the other Suzaku SeishiWhile those stories are awesome, I firmly believe that Chichiri likes women

Disclaimer: I donºt own any of the characters, they are all copyright Yu Watase and Shogakukan comics.

"I love you Chichiri", purred a low voice. It sounded familiarBut whom did it belong to?

Chichiri had only once before felt this kind of passion, and it scared him. Bubbling over like lava from a volcano ¬ it was ecstasy. With one arm, he positioned himself around his partner; with his other hand, he reached down to move the strong chin closer to him. His loverºs eyes were closed, and the smile, so beautifully worn, conveyed contentedness and trust.

This man in his arms, the emperor of his country and of his heart moved closer towards Chichiri ¬ his face looming larger as he came closer. Chichiri could feel his pulse quicken and his palms sweating. This is how it always felt to be near to his emperor ¬ a completely overwhelming experience. How could he have known that the emperor could be so sensuous? As if answering his question, Hotohoriºs face disappeared into Chichiriºs chest. His eyes grew hot, as he felt the devouring lick of Hotohoriºs tongue. It was so raspy, it nearly hurt him so raspy, like that of a-

Panting, Chichiri sat up in bed.

"Tama!" He picked Tama up and set him down on the bed. He wiped the beads of sweat from his forehead and stared off into the distance. Why was he always having those dreams? It was usually Tasuki, but sometimes it was his highness too. They excited him in some way that he didnºt want to think about. It made it difficult being around the rest of the warriors ¬ because he had been having dreams, erotic dreams about two of them.

Just to make sure, he looked at one side of his bed. Empty, he sighed with relief. That means that there was no one in his bed, nor was there last night.

For the past several months, he had been having these sexual dreams, but at first it was about Miaka. Then it stretched to include the rest of the warriors as well. He pushed his legs over one side of the bed and just sat there, staring at nothing, yet thinking about everything.

He had known Miaka for what seemed to be a long time, and from the time that she bit into his hand when he had rescued her from Kuhto warriors, he had known that he loved her. He had just never understood in what way he loved her. He supposed it had to have been lust at the time. He had always worn the smiling mask, so that no one could see what he was really feeling inside. For a long time, it worked, but lately Lately, he had noticed the others acting differently around him ¬ more concerned, more compassionate and caring towards him. To be truthful, he didnºt like it.

He had done so many terrible things in his life, things that he didnºt deserve sympathy or understanding for. He had killed his best friend.

Thatºs why he couldnºt shake these dreams. They were so out of the ordinary. He knew the others were trying to cheer him up ¬ but they were making his dreams more and more erotic. He wasnºt attracted to men, was he?

Tasuki was leaning over Nurikoºs shoulder, vainly trying to understand what he and Miaka were working on. Pieces of hard paper with hearts, diamonds and two other designs that he didnºt recognize were divided into seven piles descending downward in front of Nuriko.

"So I go down from the kings all the way to the "A"s right?" Nuriko looked confused, Tasuki noted with interest.

"Right" Miaka nodded, forcing a smile. "Every time you find an Ace in the pile, you want to put them into piles up here." Miaka pointed to a spot above the seven piles. "And build up from there"

"Why do I want to build them up again after Iºve brought them down?" Nuriko asked, thoroughly confused. Tasuki leaned back and laughed, causing Nuriko to glare playfully at him.

"Because in order to win at this game, you need to build the cards back up in their appropriate suits. The reason that you bring the cards down in this way, is so that itºs easier to win." Miaka said patiently. Nuriko interrupted with his groan.

"Hey Tasuki, isnºt the stargazing festival tonight?"

Tasuki nodded. "We should all go, since we gotta leave tomorrow to look for that shinzaho thing" He prodded Nuriko in the side with his elbow, causing Nuriko to give Tasuki an uppercut in the jaw, sending him flying.

Nuriko clapped her hands to dust them off. He opened her eyes to catch Miaka staring dumbly at him. "Whaa--!?"

Miaka started to reply, but stopped when she saw someone walking past them.

"Good morning, Chichiri. How did you sleep?"

Chichiri had been listening to them from the shadows for a while, so that he could put his mask back on.

"Oh, morning Miaka! I slept fine, ya know. How «bout you?" His voice was tense as he tried to stay nonchalant. He was clutching his fishing pole tightly in one hand.

Miaka paused for a minute before answering, as if considering the question.

"Fine, I suppose." She stood up and walked to Chichiri. "Can we take a walk?" She asked when she was closer to him and out of earshot of the other warriors. Silently, Chichiri nodded.

Nuriko and Tasuki looked at each other knowingly.

When Chichiri and Miaka were out of sight, Nuriko turned to Tasuki.

"Wow, wonder whatºs eating him? He hasnºt been acting the same goof-ballish way weºve all come to expect from him. What do you suppose is the matter?"

Tasuki shook his head, bewildered. "I dunno, but I sºpose if any of us can find out, itºs Miaka. Sheºs so good at being nosy." He finished with a grin to let Nuriko know that he was joking. Nuriko was so protective of Miaka, Youºd think he was in love with him, though no one knew exactly who or what Nuriko was attracted to anymore ¬ it had been a while since he was gung-ho on the emperorstill, ya never knew.

Nuriko paid no attention to Tasukiºs comment or his eyes on Nurikoºs back. All he could think of were his friends.

"Why donºt we stop here, Chichiri?" Miaka plopped herself down on the stone with her feet underneath her.

"Sounds good to me, ya know." He responded cheerfully, sitting down beside her, putting bait on his line. He sobered up when he saw her looking so downcast. "Whatºs the matter, Miaka? You look upset about something. What happened?"

Miaka was taken a little aback. She had expected to say that, not to hear it come from him.

"Iºm fine Chichiri, I just didnºt sleep too well is all." she smiled at him and then turned to look at the water lapping on her ankles, "But, Iºm worried about you."

Chichiri didnºt move.

"Why is that?"

Miaka blushed. "You seem so sad lately. I remember you telling me about what happened with your friend and fiance. Is that still whatºs bothering you so much?" Before he could reply, she went on. "Because if it is, you shouldnºt worry about it anymore. All youºll do is hurt yourself even worse and make healing nearly impossible! And I donºt want that to happen to you, ya know!"

Chichiri folded his legs underneath his cloak and continued to stare at the water below. He was suddenly very glad that he put his mask on. He had tried to go without it for a while, because Miaka had asked him to, but he didnºt like being so open with everyone. And to tell the truth, he was still embarrassed about his scar making his left eye stay shut. He lightly bit his lower lip. "Why would you think that?"

She didnºt respond, but took his right hand and lightly kissed his fingers. "Because I know you," She said, his hand still in hers.

"What are you doing, Miaka?" Chichiriºs voice was dangerously low and monotone.

Crushed, her eyes widened and she put his hand back down. "Nothing. I-Iºm sorry, I thought I was helping" She stood up quickly, her eyes riveted to the ground, "I guess I was wrong" With tears in her eyes, she began to run. Chichiri stopped her with his voice.

"Miaka, why did you kiss my hand?" His voice was filled with concern. "I thought you loved Tamahome, ya know?"

"Please donºt tell him about this." Her lower lip was trembling. "I only did this because you looked like you needed a friend."

"Miaka, you know Iºve had feelings for you from the first time I met you. Theyºve been very strong, too. But youºre my priestess. I canºt be involved with you that way. I love you, Miaka, just like a sister. I wonºt tell Tamahome." He said quietly, turning back to the water. "There has just been something on my mind, that I canºt tell anyone ¬ not even my priestess. Iºm sorry Miaka."

A tear ran down Miakaºs cheek to the corner of her mouth. She turned back to Chichiri, with her arms open. "Then like a sister can comfort an older brother, canºt I comfort you?"

Without a word, Chichiri fell into a friendly embrace.

Nuriko and Tasuki were still waiting.

"Chichiri has been acting so strange lately, ne, Tasuki? I mean, he was always kind of the elder brotherbut now ¬ heºs so different. I hardly recognize him." Nuriko kicked a stone with his shoe.

Tasuki glared at something in the distance, and didnºt answer. Suddenly his eyes brightened as he quickly turned to Nuriko, who had been inching closer to him so he could see what Tasuki was staring at. His quick movement sent Nuriko reeling backward.

"AUUURGHHH!!!" Nuriko sat up rubbing his head with one hand, leaning his body against the other.

"What was that for, you lout?!?!" Angered by the image of Tasukiºs eyes closing in hyperactive laughter, Nuriko leapt at him and pummeled him with one fist, sending Tasuki flying into the wall headfirst.

"Ow HeyI wonder if the reason heºs been acting so dumb lately is because of a woman." Pleased with his idea, he smirked at Nuriko.

Nuriko groaned. "Why is it always a womanºs fault with you?"

Tasuki pouted. "It just is and he must have screwed it up pretty badly."

Nurikoºs eyes widened as his mind worked quickly. "Come to think of it, he was in a relationship a long time ago, before he became a monk"

"How do you know that?" Tasuki was surprised

"Oh no reason" Nuriko batted his eyes innocently. "But Miaka talks in her sleep, you know?"

Tasuki grinned, giving Nuriko a noogie. "Leave it to you, Nuriko"

Nurikoºs eyes once again brightened with the evolution of a plan in his mind. Tasuki looked at him suspiciously, yet expectantly. "I know what that look means, Nuriko, spill it."

Nuriko leaned in closer to whisper in his ear. "Well, Iºve heard of a building not far from the palaceand we should do it before the festival" As he finished his plan, Tasuki nearly purred with excitement.

"Letºs do it."
