Title: "To Make You Forget"

Summary: Chichiri had his heart broken, and his mind ravished ¬ what can help him forget? Takes place before the summonings take place.

A/N: This is a "WHAT-IF" fic, in that I realize that this isnºt how it originally wentand I know that Miaka didnºt find out about Chichiriºs face until right now - but I am hoping that you will be kind enough to forgive the creative license that I have taken with this story. This was inspired by reading great stories pairing Chichiri with the other Suzaku SeishiWhile those stories are awesome, I firmly believe that Chichiri likes women

Disclaimer: I donºt own any of the original characters, they are all copyright Yu Watase and Shogakukan comics. Koikokoro is owned an copyrighted by me

Miaka looked at herself in the mirror by her bed. She grabbed her brush from her bag and began to comb through her now messed up hair. She turned as she heard a soft knock on the door.

"Itºs open!" She cried out.

Tamahome opened the door, and timidly looked inside. Miaka looked back at him through the mirror. Her light eyes darkened soberly, as she kept looking through the reflective glass.

"I want to know what you meant, Miaka."

Miaka played innocence. "What?"

Tamahome frowned. "I want to know what you meant when you said that you didnºt return my feelings." It was more of a statement than a question.

Miakaºs face looked like stone. "I donºt know what you mean, Tamahome."

"Yes you do! " He came in and grabbed Miakaºs shoulders, turning her to face him. His eyes painfully searched hers. "You do know!"

Miaka was shaking, but closed her eyes. "Tamahome, I just donºt feel for you the way that you thought I did. Iºm sorry that I led you to believe" She had no chance to finish her apology, for Tamahome held her tightly against him and put his mouth over hers. His tongue searched frantically for answers that her eyes would never say.

Her tongue started to obey his, but she quickly forced her mouth to close, pushing his tongue out of her mouth. She tried to pull her face away from his, but his hand was on the base of her neck, making it nearly impossible. She finally was able to get her hands free and put them on his chest, pushing him away.

His body resisted, but her force was stronger than his at the moment.

He let her go. "I see now" His eyes were opened frighteningly wide. He looked as though he had just been struck. He turned away from Miaka and dejectedly walked from the room. "Iºll leave you alone, if thatºs what you want." He closed the door behind him.

Miakaºs body crumpled to the floor once her adrenaline left her. She covered her face with her hands.

"Oh Tamahome" She moaned.

Chiriko was in the emperorºs chambers with Chichiri. They were discussing the ways that they were going to go about finding the Shinzaho ¬ now that the scroll was gone.

Chiriko closed his large eyes thoughtfully, as Chichiri spoke.

"I think the best way would be straight through the pass, ya know that way is quicker, ya know."

Hotohori frowned. "I donºt like the idea that you are going the difficult way. I would prefer if you went by way of the canal. With Miakaºs health the way it has been" His voice trailed off.

Chiriko opened his eyes and then looked at the map before them. It had just been a couple of days since he had shown up, but it felt more like mere hours. After the ceremony, he had been taken almost immediately into private conference with the emperor.

"I agree with Chichiri on this one, your majesty. I think the best way is the quickest way. We can be sure that the Seiryu Seishi will take the easy way"

Hotohori started. "How can we be sure of that?"

"Well, your majesty" Chiriko began, "We know so far that they have lost one of their own warriors, while we do not know the role that Amiboshi had in their plan ¬ we know that they placed him here under the guise of me. So we do know that they are relatively simple-minded."

Chichiriºs mouth dropped. "Chiriko! We know that they are anything BUT simple-minded! They turned Tamahome after all"

Chiriko blushed slightly. "True, but look at how they did it! Their moves are done out of fear! Iºm absolutely certain of that! They knew that they couldnºt win Tamahome to their side under usual circumstances ¬ so they drugged him They were nervous because you had found nearly all of the Seishi ¬ so they infiltrated the group. Their actions show nothing but a fear that we will get it first. They have no other option, in their own minds, besides trying to sabotage our group!"

Hotohori grimaced thoughtfully. "And do you agree, Chichiri?"

Chichiri turned from Chiriko to the emperor. "Hai, I do."

«Chiriko is really smart to have figured that much out after just a little while hereº He thought.

Hotohori smiled. "Then that is the way that you will go." With that, he rolled up the map. "You are both free now to spend your last night in Konan how you wish."

Chiriko just smiled. "Iºm going to the library! Itºs so huge and itºs filled with so many choices! Maybe Mitsukake wants to go too!"

Hotohori smiled at the youngster. He turned to Chichiri, who was very quiet. "And you, Chichiri? Nuriko, Tasuki and Miaka are going to the Stargazing festivalWill you join them?"

Chichiri just replied, "Iie, Iºve got some planning to doSo Iºll just retire to my room, ya know ¬ if thatºs all right with you." He added.

Hotohori smiled his most endearing smile. "If you are sure that you want to." But inwardly, he was thinkingºwhat is on your mind lately, Chichiri.º

Mitsukake was sitting on the floor in his room, working on his medicines. Tama was playing with a tie that Mitsukake had left abandoned near the bed. He looked at him and smiled.

"You having fun, Tama?" Tama mewed in response.

"Good, Iºm glad" He turned back to his jars. He was mixing some extra potions to take with them on their journey.

Someone knocked on his door, timidly. He turned and stood up to walk to the door. He opened it to see young Chiriko looking brightly up at him.

"Chiriko! What are you doing here? I thought you would be going to the Star Festival with Miaka and the others."

"Iie, Mitsukake-san ¬ I came to see if you wanted to go to the library with me? His highness has so many books ¬ and told me that I could explore them all I wanted!" His eyes twinkled causing Mitsukake to smile.

"Gomen, Chiriko-chan, I need to finish up on these potions." Mistukake looked honestly regretful.

Chiriko looked downcast briefly, but then his eyes lightened up again. "Well, another time then! Promise?!"

Mitsukake grinned. Chiriko was so endearing. "Hai, I promise!"

Chiriko giggled and ran off.

The sun was still bright.

Nuriko glanced back at the girl they had with them. «Sheºs so quietº Nuriko mused. He looked over at Tasuki ¬ or rather where he used to be He stopped in his tracks, which made Koikokoro stop as well. Nuriko turned to her. "Did you see where he went off to?"

Koikokoro just stood there shaking her head, her pink hair swaying with the wind that suddenly picked up. Nuriko groaned in exasperation, casting a second look at Koikokoro. «This girl certainly doesnºt look like she belongs in a brothelº

"ACK!" Nuriko freaked out as he felt something pull at his pant leg. Looking down, he saw a red-haired miniature Tasuki sitting on the ground. Tasuki quickly resumed his full height and started laughing at Nuriko. Nuriko had to resist the urge to wallop him in front of Koikokoro. Instead, he laughed along with Tasuki, which caused Tasuki more trouble than if he had just walloped him, Nuriko noted with interest. "Where WERE you?"

Tasuki looked at Koikokoro, then said quietly to Nuriko ¬ I was bringing up the rear"

Nuriko couldnºt resist any longer. He punched him, shouting "You were bringing up WHOSE rear?!"

Tasuki gurgled in response, while Nuriko clapped his hands together. Koikokoro sweatdropped.

Nuriko glanced back at her. "Gomen." Looking at her closely, Nuriko noticed the sudden weird look in her eyes, but as quickly as it appeared ¬ it was gone again. The girl smiled.

Nuriko sensed that she had a question ¬ and he figured that he knew what the question was. "Uh, no, youºre not for him" Did he see relief in her eyes ¬ or was it disappointment?

Nuriko glared a little bit. "You CAN talk, you knowYou donºt have to be quiet. Besides" He sauntered over to the girls side "It will make the trip pass by more quickly."

Koikokoro didnºt know what to say. She was usually pretty reserved anyway, but sometimes she could talk a lot. But now, she was so nervous. She knew that she hadnºt seemed nervous in the house ¬ but that was then and this was now. She had never been with a man before, and she was feeling sort of trapped. She didnºt want to do this ¬ it was bad enough in the safety of the housebut there her mother had never let her do this. Why had she opened her big mouth? She knew why though, the house needed the money that these guys had offered. And the red-haired guy had said that the large amount was only half. They were willing to pay so much for her. She knew that she had talentbut she had never been with a man before ¬ only standing in the hallway by the occupied rooms. It had seemed like such a good idea at the time ¬ but now it was closer to that time. Where she would be defined not by who she was, but by what she did. It was a moment of reawakening, excitement, anxiety and self-pity. She wondered if her mother was thinking about her. But somehow, with these guys she didnºt feel endangered. She felt reasonably safe. Particularly with the purple haired man.

Man! She would never have guessed thatShe ¬ er he ¬ was so pretty. But the red-haired man scared her a little bit. He seemed almost more scared of her than she was of him, so it shouldnºt have mattered. But with how he was acting, she had expected that she was for him. So she had built that up in her mindso that when she found out she was for him, she wouldnºt act weird. But then Nuriko had said that she was not for the red-haired guywhat was his name again.Tasuki? So who was she for? Nuriko? She closed her eyes for a moment. That wouldnºt be so bad ¬ he was attractive, after all.

When she opened her eyes again, she found Nuriko and Tasuki staring at her. She closed her eyes when she smiled, "Nani?"

Nurikoºs own eyes smiled. "You were staringand drooling"

Koikokoro turned bright red and looked shamefaced at the ground. «Oh no, Okasan would be mad if she knew that. She couldnºt let herself get attached.º

Nuriko, as if reading her thoughts, put his arm around her shoulders. "Itºs oklots of people stare at me. They canºt help it, Iºm just so danged beautiful!"

Koikokoro sweatdropped, while Tasuki fell over.

Koikokoroºs present hoping that she was meant for Nuriko was interrupted by their arrival at the Konan palace. Her mouth opened in awe, as she looked the palace over.

A stunning masterpiece of art and building combined to form the magnificent palace of the Emperor of Konan. Three stories tall, each story smaller than the one beneath ¬ with itºs own roof. Surrounded by gates on all sides ¬ the palace gardens were beautiful. As they walked through the gate to the palace steps.

Here they stopped. Nuriko looked at Tasuki and they both nod. Nuriko looked back at Koikokoro one last time before heading up the stairs. «Sheºs almost as pretty as meº At the top of the stairs, he turned and gave them both a huge wave of his hand.

Tasuki and Koikokoro both sweatdropped. Tasuki included a grumbling in his. "That idiot." Turning to Koikokoro, "Follow me."

"Hai, Tasuki-sama"

Tasuki turned around and gave her an odd look. "Please donºt call me that. Just Tasuki." He rolled his eyes at her surprise.

"Hai, gomen" Koikokoro looked nervously around her.

Tasuki led her around the gardens towards the back of the palace and up some stairs to the first floor. She hesitated on the last step, but, swallowing her fear, she followed him into the palace.

They entered directly into what she supposed to be the main hall. «One half of this room was larger than the houseº Her eyes danced up the walls stretching nearly to the sky, or so it seemed. The white textured patterns on the walls extended a certain beauty and warmth to what would otherwise seem a cold room. The columns were what was most imposing. They had carved designs of birds and other animals. She closed her eyes to regain her composure. When she opened them, Tasuki pushed her against the wall gently and told her to stay out of sight.

Chichiri was talking to Mitsukake in his room about certain potions and the effect that they have. They were comparing notes about magic.

Poor Tama couldnºt decide which shoulder to hop on ¬ so he went between the two. But, even that proved too much for him, as he wound up sprawled out on the floor, his eyes swirling.

A knock came on the door, and Chichiri went to open it.

"Nuriko? Daijoube?" Nuriko was breathing very heavily.

"Nothingºs wrong, I just canºt run for too long." He grinned up at Chichiri. After he had taken several breaths to calm himself, he spoke again. "Chichiri, Tasuki wanted me to tell you that he wants to talk to you in the great hall."

Chichiri looked a bit surprised. "Did he say why?"

"No, he just said that he would wait for you at the first column." Nuriko shrugged as though he didnºt know anymore.

With an apologetic look at Mitsukake, who just nodded that he understood, Chichiri excused himself. Nuriko followed after him.
