Chapter 2: Alterations and Disregards

Sanzo went into the room and swiftly climbed onto bed. He felt that he'd made the right decision. Soon, he fell asleep.

Outside Sanzo's room, Gojyo, Hakkai and Goku were having a conversation.

"Did I hear correctly?! Sanzo invited Kaize to travel with us?!" whined Gojyo.

"Relax. Sanzo should have a reason as to why he did it," said Hakkai, though he wasn't accurate on what he said.

"If he did.. Didn't he know the risk involved? Bringing Kaize along could be an advantage for Homura to strike!" said Goku, who obviously wasn't his usual self.

"You're right! But hey! How'd you know that?!" said Gojyo in frustration.

"Easy.. Maybe I'm just.. growing up.." said Goku miserably in reply.

Hakkai was astounded with Goku's current attitude towards Sanzo. Just a few hours ago, Goku was worried sick about Sanzo. Now, it's like his heart turned to stone. The three got off the jeep and walked around until they sat down to chat some more.

Sanzo, having heard the three talking, was a bit annoyed because he was being blamed for quite a few misunderstandings. He clenched his fists and pounded them on the jeep. He got out of the jeep and goes to an edge of the cliff. He looks down and sees that it's a long way down.

"Ku so!!" said Sanzo, punching the ground with his left fist until he noticed the ring.

Back at the jeep, Kaize was confused a bit. Hesitantly, she stepped out of the car and approached Sanzo.

"Ne. Sanzo. Dousta? Dai jyo bu?" asked Kaize.

Sanzo looked blankly at the ring he had gotten for Kaize and himself. He then remembered why he got the rings in the first place.

"Yeah.. I'm fine.. But could you leave me for a while? I need to think.." said Sanzo miserably as he sat down on the edge of the cliff and stared at the horizon.

"This is just too weird," said Kaize.

Meanwhile, Hakkai, Goku and Gojyo were chatting how and why Sanzo had been acting abnormally right now.

"So, Sanzo's been like this because?" asked Goku in a matter that seemed mature.

"You think we'd know the answer, baka saru?" said Gojyo, smoking a cigarette.

"Nande?!" said Goku, now trying to start a fight with Gojyo.

"Maa, maa.." said Hakkai.

Kaize went to the three, but was uncertain if she would explain why Sanzo was like that.

"Alright, listen up guys. The reason why Sanzo's changed was because there was something that opened a door," said Kaize, taking a seat on the ground in between Gojyo and Hakkai.

"Door?" asked Hakkai.

"Yeah. It's like, Sanzo's been locked inside himself all this time. That was the reason why he's always vulgar, unpleasant and mysteriously in a bad mood almost all the time. The only time he was open was with Komyo Sanzo, his master," explained Kaize.

With confused looks, Goku and Gojyo stared amazingly at Kaize. But Kaize was watching Sanzo's actions at that moment before continuing.

"Demo, Kaize? Sanzo's been `open' at times on our previous trip," admitted Goku, who was playing with his fingers.

"He was?!" gasped Gojyo.

"Uruse na! Kono eno kappa!" screamed Goku.

"Nan dato?! Baka saru!" said Gojyo in furious reply.

Kaize and Hakkai witnessed the two begin fighting. They both were displeased with the frequent fights the two have had ever since they started the ride to the cliff.

"Kaize? I'd agree with you that Sanzo has been locked away from the world. Demo.. I don't understand why," said Hakkai.

"Well, after Sanzo witnessed his master's death, it elicited a sort of, switch off in his positive side. He's been happy with his master, though he had no idea of his real parents. But he'd grown to love Komyo Sanzo as a father. It must've been hard for Sanzo, though. Struggling all his life, following a dead master who'll never come back.

But in reality, Sanzo's felt that he couldn't trust anybody, or any human being who doesn't have that certain, eminence that Sanzo can see in a person. In his master, Sanzo was able to see a person liable of giving him support and guidance. But to others, all Sanzo saw was an uncaring eminence. He needed to find somebody who would be able to pull him out of his misery. To pull him out of his loneliness. To pull him out of his solitude," explained Kaize.

"Wow.. I'm impressed, Kaize!" said Hakkai.

Meanwhile, Sanzo was thinking about various things..

~~Sanzo's POV~~

I don't know what to think anymore. There's always been a meticulous eminence that I've always needed to find in people. But I can't help feeling that only two people in my life has had this eminence, this inimitable eminence.

But why do these people have to be total strangers until I can distinguish their true self? It's always been bothering me why I never seem to cope with the fact that whenever I find a person who's been a trustworthy person to me, I get to become more and more closer to my solitude.

But when I look at this ring and this necklace, I feel that I've changed. Kaize Yumezo has changed my life. Changed my personality. It's like the agape is becoming more of a bigger advantage in my life. But maybe..

~~/Sanzo's POV stops here/~~

Just as Sanzo was thinking to himself about his current situation, Homura and his party came. They were fighting Hakkai, Goku and Gojyo.

"Konzen! Are you going to just sit there and hold it to yourself?" said Homura, who had been avoiding Goku's attacks.

Sanzo stood up and took his gun out. He pointed it at Homura.

"I should tell you Konzen. That gun won't work on me," said Homura.

"I know that. But I ain't using it," said Sanzo, who had began to approach Homura.

"Remember Konzen, you're not ever going to defeat me!" said Homura, as he took out his flame sword and started swishing it in different directions toward Sanzo.

Sanzo had been cleverly evading Homura's sword and hitting Homura with the handle of his gun.

"Good Konzen. You've learned to fight me with that piece of crap," said Homura, bragging.

"Kono!" said Sanzo, as he came at Homura.

Suddenly, Homura merely swerved his sword from the side to his front, slicing Sanzo's chest, which brought Sanzo to mid-air. Kaize screamed in terror as Sanzo began to descend from the lofty cliff toward the ground beneath them.

Sayonara, Konzen," said Homura, as he called Zeon and Shien to retreat.

As they retreated, Hakkai, Goku and Gojyo swiftly ran to the edge of the cliff and watched Sanzo falling closer and closer to the ground way below them.

"What are you waiting for?! Get in the jeep! Now!" said Kaize.

The three said not a word as they all climbed on the jeep and Hakkai drove down the cliff at miraculous speed.

By the time they had arrived at the spot Sanzo had fallen, they quickly got out of the jeep and checked on Sanzo.

"Sanzo! Shikaiste!" screamed Goku.

Sanzo came to consciousness and put a hand on his forehead. They all noticed that Sanzo's temple was dripping blood.

"Sanzo! You're alive!" said Goku.

"Sanzo.. Dareda?" said Sanzo.

"Nan dato?!" said Gojyo.

"Amnesia.." said Hakkai and Kaize.

"Uso.." said Goku in despair.
