Chapter 1: Building a Friendship

Wanna spend the day with me, Sanzo-sama? It may sound creepy to spend a day with a kid, but I'll make your day fun! Besides, I've gotta give you something! ~Kaize Yumezo

Sanzo thought about Kaize's invite. He doubts that she'd be making his day `fun', but he had exceptions. So, with the strength he had left, he got off the bed and wore clothes he seldom wears. [A/N: For once, Sanzo wears clothes rather than the traditional Sanzo outfit!! ^_^] He walked out the inn and found Kaize waiting for him.

"Ha! I knew you'd accept my invite!" said Kaize, as she grinned at the monk.

"Yeah.." was all Sanzo could say that time. Kaize held his hand and brought him into the forest. She brought him by the river and made him sit down.

"Well, Sanzo-sama. How do you like the scenery? I know that people used to call you, `Koryuu the River Drifter' during your childhood, but.." Kaize said until Sanzo interrupted her.

"Wait a minute. How'd..?" said Sanzo, curious.

"Easy! Like I said, I'm a big fan of yours, Sanzo-sama. I know everything about you," said Kaize.

Sanzo smiled a real smile a bit that Kaize had noticed. "Well, that's good to hear," he said.

Kaize paused for a while and took out a necklace from her pocket. She looked at it for a while and showed it to Sanzo.

"Na, na. Sanzo-sama," she said.

"Nanda?" asked Sanzo, who was looking at the river.

"Mite, mite!" she said, as Sanzo turned his attention to a necklace she was holding up.

"Nandayo kore?" asked Sanzo.

"It's called `The Necklace of Philos'. I found it at a marketplace and I bought it," said Kaize.

"'Philos'?" said Sanzo, curious of the meaning.

"'Philos is love in the form of friendship. It's known by pilgrims who set off on pilgrimages," explained Kaize.

"Wow.." was all Sanzo could say.

"I want you to have this. So that whenever, wherever, however, or whatever the reason that you'll lose yourself, or we don't see each other anymore, this memorabilia will help you find yourself again," said Kaize, as she stood up and put it on Sanzo.

Sanzo looked at the necklace Kaize had put on him and smiled. For some reason, he actually liked this certain kid. Unlike others like Goku, Lilin or any other kid, he'd be annoyed. But this certain kid made Sanzo feel uneasy with himself.

"Thanks, Kaize.. And.. Call me Sanzo. I don't want you to pay respect to me anymore. We're.. Friends.." said Sanzo.

"Honto?!" exclaimed Kaize, not believing what she just heard.

"Yeah.." said Sanzo, opening his arms and hugging Kaize.

A few days past and the four were still in the town. After a while, the three began to wonder.

"Hey Hakkai. Shouldn't we be leaving this town? I mean, it's been a week already!" said Gojyo during dinner.

"I'm aware of that Gojyo. But Sanzo wants to stay here until he's fine, at least.. physically," said Hakkai as he looked at Sanzo, who was getting remarkably well at a fast pace.

"Hey! Haven't you guys noticed why Sanzo wanted to stay? I mean, it might've been for another reason.." said Goku, before chomping down a big piece of beef.

"Well baka saru. What reason would that be?" asked Gojyo.

Goku paused for a while as he chewed his beef. He soon swallowed it and told Gojyo, "Kaize.."

"Oh.. her.." said Gojyo.

While the three were chatting, Sanzo was chatting [A/N: For once in his life besides being with his master, Sanzo gets to smile more often because of I simple girl!!] with Kaize.

"That just about raps up the case, I guess," said Hakkai.

Not far away from the town, Homura, Zeon and Shien where watching over the town, awaiting Sanzo and company to leave the town.

"Hey Homura! It's been one week late since they didn't leave the town," pestered Zeon.

"Yeah. So I've noticed. It seems that Konzen's been held back by a little girl," said Homura.

Back at the hotel, Sanzo and company went upstairs to hit the hay. Kaize was about to head back to her house until..

"Hey! Kaize!" came the voice of Sanzo. Kaize stopped right before the doors and turned around to see Sanzo coming back down the stairs.

"Yeah? Ngani, Sanzo?" asked Kaize.

Sanzo paused for a while and took out a pair of rings. He gripped on them for a while and soon held them out to Kaize.

"Wow! Sugoi! Kire!!" said Kaize, as Sanzo held his palm out revealing the silver rings on them.

"This is a present.." Sanzo said as he put one ring on Kaize's left ring finger and the other on his own.

"It's a ring that symbolizes eros, another greek term for love. Eros, meaning there is a form of love between two people. But eros has many faces. But eros between us would always show a positive side to it," explained Sanzo.

"Oh.." said Kaize, a bit shocked that Sanzo knew what she talked about before.

"Demo.." continued Sanzo.

"Demo?" asked Kaize.

"There is another greek term for love. The first two are eros and philos. The third one is agape," said Sanzo.

"Agape.. The love that consumes.." said Kaize.

"The one where both eros and philos are involved in," finished Sanzo.

Kaize and Sanzo were both dumbfounded that they both knew about that certain topic.

"Listen Kaize.. You're welcome to come along with us on our journey. We'll be leaving tomorrow at dawn for an early start," said Sanzo.

"Sure! I'd love to!!" said Kaize.

"Then meet us back here at dawn, okay?" said Sanzo.

"Sure thing!" said Kaize, as she hesitantly kissed Sanzo on the cheek and ran off.

"Hey Sanzo! Wasn't that fun?" said Gojyo, infuriating Sanzo.

"Hey Sanzo!! Did you plan that or something?" asked Goku, who infuriated Sanzo more.

Sanzo took a deep breath to let go of his anger toward the two. He's been at ease since he met Kaize. So, he let his scolding pass by as he passed the two and mumbled `I'll let it go for now.'

"What was that about?" asked Goku to Gojyo.

"Beats me.." replied Gojyo.

Hakkai began to wonder what Sanzo was feeling.
