Synopsis: Another stop along the way.
+++

“Are you sure the easiest way around this mountain is over?” Gojyo asked, only half bitching. Their current surroundings were youkai free and almost pleasant, if a little warm. “Maybe we're not going over the top, but we're still climbing a long way.”

“That's what they said at the restaurant we stopped at last,” Hakkai answered patiently. Jeep labored steadily up the path cut through the underbrush. The roadway was well maintained, but it had to be. The vegetation was thick where it hadn't been trimmed back. Or- perhaps that meant it wasn't frequently used?

“Quit whining. Otherwise you can get out and walk the rest of the way up the mountain,” Sanzo grunted. He sounded sleepy and grumpy, and considering they had been attacked three nights out of four these past few days, that wasn't too bad. “Stupid monkey! Stop grabbing the tree limbs! If you get stuck on one you can damned well stay there!”

Goku, reaching out to slap at the lowest hanging leaves, jerked his hand back. “I'm not trying to grab the branches! I'm aiming for the leaves!”

“Just stop or I shoot you!”

“Fine.” The next five minutes were blissfully silent, everyone off in their own world. Gojyo took the opportunity to light up a cigarette. By the time he finished it and dropped it behind them as they rode along, Goku was beginning to fidget in his seat. “Hey, how long until we get there? I'm hungry.”

Sanzo whirled with the harisen in hand and brought it crashing down on the monkey's head. Gojyo flinched as the blond began hollering. “We'll get there when we get there!”

“Ah! I think we're here.” Hakkai's irony tinged words drifted back, and all activity halted. Everyone peered forward as they approached a tall wall set with an equally tall gate, flanked with armed guards in spiffy navy and scarlet uniforms. They moved to block their entry past the gate. “Halt! Who are you?”

Long bows appeared on the either side of the gate at the man's yell, two apiece per side.

“Excuse us. We're trying to get past this mountain, and we were told there was a bridge across to the other mountain. Are we in the right spot?”

“You are. But you still haven't given us your names.” The guard crept up on Hakkai's side as though expecting some hidden attack, eyes scanning them in the Jeep. When his eyes fell on Gojyo, his mouth thinned. “A taboo child. Do you travel freely with them or are you enslaved?”

Gojyo arched an eye brow. “I'm my own man, no one owns me.”

Brown eyes narrowed even as his mouth thinned even further, and the guard turned the glare on the rest of Jeep's occupants as if he could force the truth out of them all. “Name, sir?”

“Sha Gojyo. Can we get some service or what?”

The guard stared at him again and then nodded. “You all may enter, but the bridge is used only with the master's permission. You'll have to speak to him first.” Turning sideways, he made a motion with his hand, and the rest of the guards stood down. There was movement from above where the archers had stood, and someone not dressed in the navy and red uniform appeared to peer out at them from the other side of the gate before darting away in a bright flash. “Momo will take you to see the master, if you'll enter.”

“Thank you.” Hakkai said, and inched forward past the gate.

Inside the walls was a vast courtyard before an even vaster house that looked more like a fortress. It climbed up the mountain side as though it had grown that way, with all the trees, and weathered stone steps could be seen at intervals in the rare open space. (This place looks like some ancestral home out of a movie or something.)

“Wow,” Goku breathed. His eyes were wide in an attempt to take it all in at once. “It's huge! I think it's bigger than the monastery back home.”

“It's certainly impressive,” The green eyed man said from the driver's seat. “It reminds me off those RPG games that start off with the entire household being slaughtered with only one left alive and the survivor sets off to seek revenge against their family's killers.”

“That's true. This place looks like it could have a few ghosts drifting around.” Gold eyes went even rounder from the corner of his eye, and Gojyo hid a smile. “Or maybe a zombie.”

“Ghosts? Zombies? No way!” The brunet protested. “Gross!”

Sanzo gripped his forehead but didn't say anything. The red head took that as a good sign. “You never know with these old buildings. If you hear something scratching on the door, don't open it. And make sure-“

“Shut up,” The blond finally said. “Stop teasing the monkey.”

“Hey, I'm just making sure he knows what to do when confronted with things that go bump in the night.”

“But Gojyo, you're the one he'll be sleeping with,” Hakkai said with a malicious smile in his voice. “Though if you're watching for ghosts, I don't think you will get much sleep.”

“Cheh! Like we'll be sleeping any way.” The whole atmosphere of the group froze for a moment, and Gojyo realized that this was the first off color comment he had made to the others about Goku and himself since they had gotten together. (Stupid, stupid! You've managed to keep your mouth shut until now!)

“Bastard, don't say perverted things like that in front of them!” A flush flooded Goku's face and he punched the kappa's shoulder. It wasn't very hard but Gojyo yelped and protested anyway- just for appearance's sake. “Ow! Hey!”

“Stupid kappa. You're supposed to think with that thing attached to your neck.” Sanzo pulled out his own cigarettes. (What the hell? That's it? I guess he doesn't mind if it looks like the monkey's punishing me? Bogus, sadistic priest… and here I thought he had been calming down.)

“Hello?” asked a soft voice. There was a young woman descending the broad steps toward them from the front entry way dressed in navy robes, hair and eyes just as scarlet as Gojyo's. A half grown human child trailed after her, the distinctive yellow and orange robes marking him as the one who had looked at them from the gateway. “I'm Momo, mister travelers. Wei De tells me you wish to cross the bridge thus seeking an audience with our master. Correct?”

“That's correct.” Hakkai answered, non-pulsed by her appearance.

Gojyo tuned out everything and just stared for a long moment. (It's been a while since I've seen anyone else like me. Is this a youkai stronghold? Or is she a servant here? Is she unaffected by the craziness?)

Her head turned and she looked at him, then smiled. “Hello. Is it such a shock to see another child of taboo?”

“…No. But there aren't that many of us.”

“Ah. If you please, everyone, follow me. Refreshments will be brought to you as you wait.” Stepping back, she waited expectantly for them to disembark. When Hakuryu transformed, the scarlet haired woman merely smiled, turned to the boy beside her and requested enough drinks for five. Wei De went in search of the snacks and Momo lead them inside the depths of the house.
+++

“Sorry to keep you waiting,” Momo's voice rang out past the partition just before the paper door slid open. A slender young man strode past her with a long pipe in one hand. He had very long, dark hair smoothed into a ponytail that draped over one shoulder, and wore patterned robes reminiscent of Japan rather than China. He was pretty to look at, if one could get past the bored, rather sly expression he presented to the world.

“This is our master, Tang Shou Ren.” She said as he crossed the room to flop on a cushion far across from them. Entering finally herself, she shut the door behind her and sat down to the side of it. “These are the travelers we spoke of.”

“Hello. I understand you wish to use my bridge. What are you willing to pay for it?” A lazy, dark gaze traced of each of them as they sat in a neat row on cushions, trays placed before them, and halted when he looked directly at the kappa.

“How much do you want?” Sanzo replied dispassionately, hands tucking themselves into voluminous sleeves. He was seated between the green eyed man and the monkey, with Gojyo nearest the door.

“I don't need your money. Besides, I thought Buddhist monks disdained such worldly things?”
Shou Ren shot back, still focused on the red haired man. It was beginning to creep Gojyo out. “I want what is of value to you personally.”

“Of personal value?” Hakkai echoed. His fingers scratched the dragon draped over his shoulder absently as he thought.

“Yes. May I ask what you are doing with a precious taboo child in your midst?” The pipe was raised to his mouth and he puffed on it.

(Precious? That doesn't really doesn't sound very cute coming from his mouth.)

“We're traveling west.” Hakkai answered hastily, earning a frown from Sanzo. “And he isn't a slave. Does such a thing bother you?”

“No. I find it fascinating. What is your name, mister traveler, if I may be so bold?”

(This guy is seriously beginning to creep me out. What the fuck is his problem?) “Sha Gojyo. Mind not staring? It's irritating the crap out of me.”

“Where did you get those scars?”

“Fuck you.”

A spark flashed in the man's eyes, and he threw his head back and laughed. “Unbroken! Another diamond in the rough!”

“Our master is a connoisseur of sorts. He has a preference for those who are taboo.” Momo broke in. “He has rescued eight of us who bear the taboo. Six of us reside here, one is abroad and one has gone to the realm of King Enma.”

Unpleasant emotion shuddered up Gojyo's spine, and he eyeballed the red haired woman hard before turning the same look on Shou Ren. “Look, we're heading west. We're trying to get there as quick as possible. The last people we talked to said it's faster to cross your bridge and follow the path down rather than go around, and we're not exactly carrying a lot that we can trade you, you know?”

“Ah- if I may suggest something?” The red haired woman said, and continued at a questioning brow. “Master, these men are suitable for your lens, are they not?”

“Models, you mean?”

“Excuse me, but I'm not very photogenic.” Hakkai smiled, hands lifting in an almost universal gesture of `wait'.

“Nonsense.” The master of the house snorted. “It's all up to the camera. Hummm- Momo has a point. And you're saying your time is currently your most precious commodity, right? Give me until the day after tomorrow and model for me. I'll provide food, lodging and anything else to keep you in comfort while you're here. Then you may have use of the bridge.” He clutched the lip of the pipe between his teeth and looked at them expectantly.

Gojyo looked down the line to gage Sanzo's reactions. Goku was turned the same way seeking the same thing. Sanzo looked blank despite the narrowed eyes, and Hakkai had stopped smiling. Instead, the green eyed man looked irritated.

“Sanzo?” Goku began tentatively. “Maybe we should just go around…”

“Sanzo? Are you the high priest Sanzo said to be on a journey to destroy demons?” Momo rose to her feet, looking as though she were trying to decide between the responses of fight or flight.

“Momo, most monks don't carry a sutra across their shoulders.” Shou Ren said gently. “Calm yourself. He hasn't attacked anyone yet.”

“But Master Shou!”

“Don't believe all the rumors that drift on the breeze, Momo. Go; make preparations for our guests and send Tian to open up the store rooms for costumes.”

“Hey, we haven't said yes yet!” Goku exclaimed, rising to his feet.

“That's right!” Gojyo seconded. “And you're fucking creepy as hell! We don't have to take your crap!”

“We'll do it.”

“WHAT!” Every face turned to the blond seated in the middle of them all, radiating calm. The red haired woman was waved out to do her duties by her master as the protests began to play out.

“No way, Sanzo!”

“What the hell, you no good priest!”

“Think about it, you idiots. Two nights here and then we leave or we spend a month and a half going around. Fuck that.”

“Sanzo, are you sure?” The older brunet was smiling again, much, much too pleasantly. “It's not like you to bow to the whims of others.”

“Huh,” The blond grunted. “He's footing the bill.”

“You cheap ass monk!” Climbing to his feet, Gojyo glared down at their leader. “Why don't you just sell us to the highest bidder!?”

“Gentlemen, I'm Tang Shou Ren, your host. If you've already had lunch, then I'd like you to pick costumes and begin as soon as possible. Momo will prepare your rooms in the meanwhile.” The long haired man smiled toothily. “You may go anywhere you wish in my home when we aren't working. Please forgive any oddities you encounter. I look forward to working with you all.”

Setting aside a half emptied bottle of water, Gojyo continued to rummage through racks of clothing for a black jacket. Sanzo, Hakkai and Goku were currently up on the list of Shou Ren's tender mercies. Modeling was a lot harder than it looked. The red haired kappa muttered, “The definition of `photographer' should be `fucking bossy bastard'.”

“What was that, Gojyo?”

Jerking around, scarlet eyes wide, he let loose with a few choice expletives. “You monkey- don't sneak up like that!”

Goku grinned at him. He was dressed like a club kid from one of the big cities in a layered, long sleeved tee shirt and vest, shorts and socks with a pair of the heaviest looking shoes the red head had ever seen. An open crown cap with long flaps graced his head and concealed the golden diadem. Stepping forward, the brunet continued to smile. “You shouldn't be so easy to sneak up on.”

“Is it time for you to change?” Turning back to the clothes rack, Gojyo began noting other items that were more suited to Goku.

“Yep!” The gold eyed brunet came up behind him and slipped warm arms around his waist. Standing still as Goku snuggled against his back, Gojyo closed his eyes to appreciate the warmth. “They still haven't showed us our rooms. Even if we have our own rooms, I'm sleeping with you, okay?”

“Yeah.” Turning in his embrace, Gojyo rested one hand on a slender shoulder as he lifted the other's chin with his other hand. The kiss he gave his lover was gentle and as he pulled away, the brunet followed him for another one. There was no pent up need in either of them; Sanzo had broken and gotten separate rooms when available. This was simply sweetness. “How's your head? Sanzo smacked you pretty damn hard in the car.”

“Nah. It wasn't as hard as he could have.” First one arm then the other twined around the kappa's neck. Leaning up, Goku pressed his cheek against Gojyo's unscarred one. “Sanzo's been acting weird lately. I wonder if Hakkai's holding out on him.”

The red head chuckled. “No way, monkey. And what are you thinking, to come up with that?”

“It's your fault.” The gold eyed brunet slid down and stepped away before stretching. “I'm supposed to find an outfit with a white shirt and dark pants and a dark jacket.”

There was a knock on the door before it rattled open. Tian ducked into the room, long scarlet hair braided back into a long rope. Another of Shou Ren's favored taboo children, he was a gentle giant with a faint stoop in his shoulders as though he were perpetually trying to make himself smaller. His voice was soft as he spoke, a melodious bass that matched him. “Gojyo San? Goku San? When you're ready, Master Shou would like you to wait in the lotus room.”

“Got it! Thanks, Tian San.” Goku answered, waving an arm. “Hey are Sanzo and Hakkai almost done?”

“It will be a little longer, sir. Master Shou is… having fun.” Tian said. One hand rose to press against one ear, an anxious gesture. “Your friends are more photogenic than they thought. If you'll excuse me, I would like to keep an eye on them. Master Shou can sometimes get… demanding.”

They nodded and the manservant left, the door rattling shut behind him.
+++

“Okay, this is officially boring.”

“The food's nice, though. Don't you want any?” Goku looked around from a table piled with food. The room was ascetically bare otherwise except for the floor cushions, and Gojyo had opened the door to the outside. Now he was sprawled out in the shade patched sunlight that made its way through, an unlit cigarette clenched between his lips and his feet bare as they dangled over the porch edge. “The apples are really good.”

“No. I'm tired of waiting for that photographer.” The brunet made his way over to him and settled beside him on the floor. “If he doesn't come in a moment, I'm changing and he can kiss my ass. What? Do I have something on my face?”

Gold eyes were staring down at him solemnly, head cocked just so. “No, there's nothing.”

“Of course there's something. You stare when you want to say something.” Sitting up, the red head curled a finger under his lover's chin. “What?”

“…You're being nicer to Sanzo. I was kind of wondering why. And we're alone.” Tilting his head into Gojyo's hand, he looked up at him through messy bangs.

“You're a spoiled monkey, you know that?” Leaning down to kiss Goku, the kappa was only aware of those eyes fastened on him.

“Only because of you,” Came the reply. Lips touched, parted then came back for a second time.

“We can't do this here.”

“Just shut up and kiss me.” Grabbing two fistfuls of lapels, Goku leaned back to lie on the floor, tugging his lover down to him. “I like it when you kiss me.”

Feeling a smile bloom on his mouth, Gojyo quit protesting and did as requested. Stretching out on his side, he leaned over the brunet to kiss him and felt fingers tangle in his hair. Soft, sweet, lingering- those were the kisses his gold eyed lover liked best in the beginning. Last night had been spent in the middle of nowhere in the Jeep, but the night before they had had a room to themselves at the inn, and they had started out almost like this. The only difference was that they had already shed their clothing.

“Well, I wasn't expecting this.” The voice was droll, but underneath that was a note of surprise as they broke their kiss and looked around. Master Shou stood in the doorway with his camera in hand. Gojyo wondered how both he and Goku had managed not to hear the rattling of the door as slid open. “Does this mean I can't persuade you to stay here with me? Are you already taken, Gojyo San?”

“It's none of your damn business, but yes, I'm taken. And I wouldn't stay here for anything. Who the hell goes around collecting people?” His lover's eyes were fastened on their host but Goku's fingers had tightened in his hair, almost painfully so, and there was nothing he could do about it that wouldn't cause a fight. (That possessive streak of his rears its head again. Asshole just had to say it in front of the monkey, didn't he?)

“You have no idea just exactly how rare and wonderfully precious you are, do you, Gojyo San? No idea of what you represent?” Dark eyes were sharp upon him, and he frowned at their host.

“Stop talking in riddles.”

“Your body is a fusion of magic and instinct superior to either a full human or full youkai. If you could reproduce, you would be a very dangerous creature, combining the genetic talents of youkai and activating the latent talents of humans. Unfortunately, all Taboo Children are barren. Though, shooting blanks is hardly a concern with your choice of partner, ne?” Shou Ren leaned against the doorframe, a decidedly disconcerting look in his eyes.

“First, my choice of partner is none of your fucking business.” Gojyo began, feeling something a little warmer than irritation and a lot less pleasant than lust stir in his gut- anger. It threaded through his voice as he spoke. “Second, the ladies of the world and I get along just fine. Third, I don't particularly like you, and fourth, that's just a few of several rumors spread by fucked up morons like you.”

“Did I make you mad, Gojyo San? My apologies, to both of you. If you don't mind, would the two of you be romantic in front of my lens? I would like to get a few shots of you together now that the air's been cleared.”

“Be roman- you can shove that lens right up your-“

“Gojyo?” Looking down, the red head halted his tirade. Gold eyes were wide, so wide that he noticed his form reflected back at him. His long hair was free again; when had the monkey let go and moved his small hands to his shoulders?

“Don't worry, he's not going to.”

“It's okay.”

(What?!) “What happened to not sharing?”

“Just a few, okay? And we get to look at them when they're done.” Goku looked back at Shou Ren. “But nothing perverted, okay?”

“I thought you didn't like to share.” The red head said softly, attracting the other's attention. He smiled up at him and replied, “This isn't sharing. This is me kissing you.”
+++

The door rattled open, and Momo poked her head in the room. “Master Shou, mister guests, dinner will be ready in five minutes. Please come to the dining hall and eat.”

“Thank you, Momo. We'll be there.” Shou Ren turned back to the room. “This is the last picture for a while, then. Hold it.” The four men froze and the camera clicked softly. “Okay. I'd like to try a few night shots in the garden later, after everyone's had time to refresh themselves, maybe around eleven or so until about one. Is that alright?”

“I need more cigarettes,” Sanzo grunted as they all rose from the seating arrangement and stretched. “Marlboros.”

“As you wish, Priest Sanzo.” The photographer made a beeline for his work table. “Tian, escort them to dinner then send a crew down to town with their orders. I'll catch up.”

“Yes, Master Shou.” The tall man made his way to the door and slid it wide. Ducking through, he stepped back to allow the others access. “Sirs, if you'll follow me, I'll lead you there.”

Darting a quick frown at Shou Ren's back, Gojyo followed the others after hesitating. (He said he wouldn't show those pictures to anyone else, but I don't trust him. I shouldn't have gone along with that stupid idea.)

((Oh, stop whining. You wanted to do it, too. You're just afraid Sanzo might kill you. Well, that and you're thinking Mr. Gold Eyes will regret it later.)) His consciousness answered him.

(Shut up.) He looked up in time to avoid running into Sanzo. The blond stood in the middle of the hallway, dressed in black jeans and a black button down shirt. His face was quiet and smooth, his eyes contemplative as he crossed his arms over his chest. The red haired kappa took a step back. “Wh- what, Sanzo?”

“…What does he see in you?”

Staring wordlessly, Gojyo didn't understand what he was talking about for a moment. “Who?”

“Goku.”

Gojyo stared for another moment. His mouth hardened, and he narrowed his gaze at the monk. “Damned if I know. If you hadn't been such a fucking coward, he'd be with you right now.”

Violet eyes widened, and Gojyo felt an unpleasant smile stretch his own face. “He doesn't know and I'm not about to tell him. Your little secret is safe, Sanzo Sama.”

“…It's not like that.”

“What do I care? Let's go eat; otherwise Goku will get it all.” Gojyo stepped around the blond, or at least tried to. Sanzo's words halted his progress.

“He's too young. And I'm not a pedophile.”

(Is that what it's really about?) “…And you think I am? That pretty face of yours, Sanzo- how often has someone tried to take what wasn't theirs? Been there, man, even with the scars and the taboo thing. But that's not what it's about with him, you know that?” (Besides, he'll leave when he gets tired of me- that, or when you get up the courage to ask him.)

“…You're making him happy.” Sanzo walked past him, silent on bare feet, hands tucked into his hip pockets. The blond monk turned the corner and headed right. “Let's go.”

Feet moving with the command, Gojyo followed even as his eyes widened in surprise. (I'm making him happy?)
+++

Sucking hard, nose buried in dark curls and Goku writhing against his pinning grip, the red head winced as his hair was tugged sharply in response. Pulling away, Gojyo caught the flushed erection in his hand as it left his mouth. His lover groaned in frustration. “Don't stop! Not unless you're going to fuck me.”

“You're too fixated on having my cock up your ass. I told you, there's more than one way to have sex.” He kissed the flared head, then laved the very tip with his tongue, probing the glans. “I told you, I wanted to see you like this, didn't I?”

Goku dug his fingers into the futon fabric. “You did, but I like- like it- like that. I like it when you tell me to- spread my legs for you. It reminds me of the first time you touched me like this.”

Gojyo drew back from his ministrations and looked up. A slow, teasing grin curled his mouth. “You like when I tell you to spread them? I never knew my pretty baby was so- kinky.”

“Don't say it like that!” The gold eyed brunet was suddenly bright red, and Gojyo laughed. “Don't laugh, either!”

Pressing a kiss to the inside of one thigh in a silent apology, the older man reached out a hand to his bag beside them on the floor and fumbled for a moment for the lubricant. “You can be such a prude sometimes, you know?”

“And you're such a pervert.” The tone was chastising, but his eyes were bright with anticipation as he watched his lover slick his longest finger.

“We're still doing what I want tonight, so you'll have to settle for this.” Gojyo smiled up at him, watching closely as he spoke. “Open your legs for me, pretty baby.”

Around him, slender strong legs parted further, and the expression on his lover's face went soft and unfocused. The subrosa shivered when he stroked it, then began to bloom as Goku moaned softly. Ducking his head, Gojyo drew the straining erection back into his mouth a few inches. Bobbing his head, he played with tongue, teeth and lips as he gained entrance to his lover's body. When his finger slid in fully, he engulfed the cock in his mouth and looked up at his lover's face. Goku looked strained and unfocused all at once as Gojyo combined the oral pleasures with the finger fucking, the passage squeezing at him tightly as he began to shove in and out of his body. Shivers worked their way through the body before him, and moans began to fill the air again, complaining moans that it wasn't enough; throaty moans demanding more- a symphony of moans that filled the kappa's ears. It made him feel gratified while at the same time it made him ache for the sensation of filling his lover, of kissing him while they moved together. (Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to refuse straight off the bat…)

Goku's body began tensing beneath him, and a familiar salty taste danced over his tongue. The red head sucked hard before releasing his cock and catching it in his free hand. He examined it carefully and ignored the brunet's cursing, noting its angry crimson color and the fine beading on the tip of it as it quivered for him. Smoothing the arc of flesh up against Goku's belly with a gentle touch, he searched for the spot inside his lover that would make him scream- and wasn't disappointed.

Clamping down tight around the digit he had buried inside him, Goku wailed loud and long as his body arched in his orgasm. Milked pearls scattered over his abdomen, the red head stroking fast as he fingered his prostate, ringing as much sensation as possible from the gold eyed man. Even after Gojyo stopped, his lover continued to shiver as he drew away and sat up. Eyes closed, breathing deeply and still flushed, Goku looked content and satisfied. It was this image Gojyo had wanted to see, and he leaned forward to kiss the swollen lips. Arms wrapped around his neck, and he chuckled a little as he drew away a bit. “I thought you were out.”

“We're not done yet. It's your turn next.” Gold eyes smiled up at him.

“Hey… are you happy?”

“Huh? Yeah, I guess so. I'm not sad or anything. Why?”

“Nothing, no reason.”
