Chapter Thirteen:

Hiro and Shuu sat in the lamplight, on the couch Suguru had led them to, waiting for the boy to return. They could just hear the soft, muffled sounds of the shower as their band mate turned the water on. Other than that, the house was completely quiet. It wasn't long, though, before Shuuichi inevitably broke that silence.

“Soooo,” he began, turning to his red haired friend with a sly grin. “What did you two do last night?”

Hiro cocked his brow, “What are you talking about?”

“Come on, Hiro, don't play dumb! I'm talking about you and Fujisaki! You two were awfully comfy on your couch together when I came over today. So, come on, I'm your best friend! You know you can tell me!” Shuuichi pleaded to his friend, scooting closer in order not to miss a word of the juicy details.

Hiro leaned closer as well, almost conspiratorially, a grin spreading on his face. Then suddenly a heavy fist was crashing to the top of Shuuichi's skull, and the singer exclaimed in pain as Hiro answered, “Nothing happened. He fell asleep on the couch when I took you home. Then the phone woke me up in the morning and I was just too lazy to go back to bed, that's all.”

Rubbing his sore head, Shuuichi looked back up at Hiro disappointedly. “That's all? You had him all to yourself and you didn't do anything? Hiro, I'm surprised at you! I never thought you were the shy type!”

“Baka! How is not molesting someone sleeping innocently on your couch being shy?!”

“Come on, Hiro, I know how you feel about him. You could've at least told him.”

Hiro leaned forward, one elbow braced on his knee, resting his chin on his hand. “It's not that simple and you know it, Shuuichi.”

Shuuichi waved him off flippantly, “Yeah, yeah, I know, I know. He's our band mate, he's sixteen, he's Seguchi-san's cousin, blah blah blah… You can't use that as an excuse forever. Weren't you the one that said it doesn't matter who you fall in love with, as long as you're happy? Besides, even I can admit that, despite his age, Fujisaki is hardly a kid. If anything, I should make fun of you for wanting an old man!” Shuuichi laughed and stuck out his tongue, barely dodging another fist to his head.

When Shuuichi's giggles finally settled, Hiro sat back with a sigh. “Look, Shuu, it's not something I want to just jump into. Yes, okay, I like Fujisaki, I can't hide that from you. But that doesn't mean he likes me back. I don't even know that much about him outside the band, how can I even think about making a confession to him? Besides, he probably doesn't even like boys!”

Shuu rolled his eyes, “Are you kidding me?! If there's anyone in this band that's definitely gay, it's that guy!”

Hiro laughed at this, “Aren't you forgetting something? Like, maybe, the fact that you're the only one in the band with a boyfriend?”

Shuu waved him off, “That's just because I'm Yuki-sexual. Besides, you heard what he said when I teased him about getting a girlfriend. He's not interested! So, of course he's into guys!! And until a couple months ago, you didn't think you were either! So how can you judge whether Fujisaki is or not?”

Hiro opened his mouth to continue the argument, but then realized the shower had turned off and the floor was creaking as Suguru walked to his room to get dressed. Dropping his voice to ensure only Shuuichi would hear him, he said, “Look, can you drop it for now? Now is not the time or place to have this discussion. Let's just have a nice night out as a band, and not worry about my love life.”

Shuuichi crossed his arms and scowled stubbornly, but dropped it when he saw the honest pleading on his friend's face. Sighing he agreed, “Okay, fine.” Then they continued to wait in silence for Suguru.

When the boy finally came back out to the living room, he was all ready to go. He wore a simple tight, black mock-turtleneck t-shirt and blue jeans. Over his shoulder was slung a small bag with a change of clothes and some other overnight things he hadn't had the luxury of before, such as his toothbrush. Ah, how good it had felt to brush away the morning breath and beer tastes that he'd had to deal with all day at Hiro's.

Shuuichi made a show of gasping and exclaimed, “Who would have thought, Fujisaki Suguru owns jeans!”

Suguru rolled his eyes, “Of course I own jeans, Shindou-san.”

“How come we've never seen you wear them?” Shuu asked, genuinely curious.

“Because you pretty much only see me at work, and it's hardly professional to come to work in such attire,” the other boy responded, hinting in his tone that if jeans weren't appropriate for work, then Shuuichi's usual choice of dress was well below acceptable.

Shuuichi shrugged and countered, “Well, you should wear them more often. You actually look like a normal guy in normal clothes rather than some old stuffed shirt. Ne, Hiro, don't you think he looks good?” Shuuichi took a moment to waggle his brows at the guitarist, getting in one more suggestive comment between the two before walking back in the direction they'd come through the house.

Hiro and Suguru just stood there sort of awkwardly until Shuuichi called back to them, “Come on, you guys! I'm starving!!”

Hiro took a couple steps, then turned back to Suguru with an easy smile. “You look really good, Fujisaki.” Then walking away as quickly as he could without being obvious, not wanting the younger boy to see his slight blush from the admission, Hiro met Shuu at the door and put his shoes back on. In his haste, he missed the deeper shade of red that graced Suguru's cheeks at the compliment.

*~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~ ~*

Shuuichi was already impatiently stamping his foot and calling for Suguru when the teen finally joined his band mates by the door. Ignoring his lead singer's complaints, Suguru sat on the step by the door to put his sneakers on. While he was tying them, he thought he caught a glimpse of Hiro watching him out of the corner of his eye, but when he looked up, the guitarist was looking at Shuuichi again, telling him to be patient.

Shuuichi huffed for Suguru to hurry up, and walked outside to `wait in the fresh air,' or so he said. For some reason, Suguru got the feeling that he was purposely leaving Hiro and him alone. In fact, he was almost certain the pink haired man had given the guitarist a meaningful look that actually said, `stay here.' He thought it was odd (had something happened between them while he'd been in the shower?), but decided not to dwell on it, and returned to tying his shoes.

When Suguru stood, Hiro was still standing there. Leaning against the wall, arms crossed, waiting and watching patiently with a half cocked smile. Suguru noticed that the guitarist was wearing black jeans, with a white wife beater underneath a blue, faux silk, unbuttoned long-sleeved shirt. He had on a couple necklaces on leather cords, and a leather jacket. He had gone for sneakers tonight, rather than the boots he'd worn when they went out to Zepp the other night. Hiro noticed Suguru looking at him and smiled his usual friendly grin. Inexplicably, Suguru felt himself start to blush again, and quickly turned away from the other man to dig a coat out of the closet.

`What's wrong with me?!' he wondered with a slight shake of his head. Ever since the night of their concert, he'd been feeling more and more shy around the man, yet somehow more comfortable at the same time. `Is it because I've been spending more time with them now? If being more friendly is going to make me feel awkward like this, maybe I shouldn't go. I should just stay home and go back to how it was before, with us merely being coworkers,' he thought, completely missing the fact that he didn't feel that way around Shuuichi. However, thinking about what it was like before, he realized how lonely it had actually been.

He'd never realized before, because he'd never really had anything else to compare it to. Being seen as a child genius, things were always lonely. School and his music was all he'd spent his time on, and he'd never really been able to make friends, or even really attempted to since more often than not, other kids his age were far too immature for his taste. With his inception into Bad Luck, he'd even moved from going to a regular high school to meeting with a tutor three times a week to accommodate his work schedule, and pretty much cut himself off completely from all contact with teens his age. He hadn't thought he was lonely; it was already such a familiar feeling, he never thought about it. Now, though, making real friends with his band mates and hanging out with them, Suguru realized he didn't really want to go back. Even if it was sort of awkward right now, maybe he just needed time to get used to it.

`Yes,' he decided as he found his denim jacket and put it on, pulling his overnight bag back onto his shoulder. `I just need to get accustomed to having friends.' Finally ready, he turned back to Hiro and thought he saw a strange gleam in his band mate's eyes, but with a blink it was gone, leaving Suguru to wonder if it was ever there to begin with; and if it was, what it meant.

Hiro brought him out of his wondering, however, when he asked, “All set?” Suguru nodded. “Let's go then, before Shuuichi gets too cranky,” Hiro said with a grin.

Suguru agreed, knowing all too well what the singer was like when overly hungry, and the two of them headed outside to where Shuu was waiting by Hiro's bike. Hiro took Suguru's bag, putting it in a compartment for safekeeping. Then they all piled onto the bike, Suguru in the middle once again, and drove off to a casual dinner at Zenny's before heading out to the clubs.

*~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~ ~*

Tatsuha's bike roared through the streets as the teen deftly avoided traffic and cops, racing to his next destination: The Seguchi Residence.

He couldn't believe he'd been kicked out of Ryuichi's house… by Mika! Why the fuck did his sister constantly feel the need to meddle in the lives of her younger brothers? He just didn't understand it! Especially when she knew how he felt about Nittle Grasper's lead singer, and for how long; how could she just call like that and butt into their business, after he'd finally realized his dream of being with Ryuichi?!

Tatsuha just couldn't stand it! He wasn't going to take this lying down! He may not have been able to refuse Ryuichi telling him he had to leave, but he surely was no stranger to arguing with his older sister. However daunting an undertaking it may have been normally, Tatsuha was past the point of worrying about that. Right now, his only concern was getting to his sister's home and making her explain herself.

When he finally reached the condo his sister and brother-in-law owned, he wasted no time in parking and making his way inside.

“Aneki!” He called out as he made his way through the house to where he thought he heard her. “What's the big ide..a…oh…” his demand for explanation fell flat as he got to the sitting room and found his sister entertaining company.

“Tatsuha!” Mika exclaimed, apologizing to the Fujisakis as she got to her feet to grab her brother by the arm and drag him back to the door. When they were well out of sight and hearing range, she hissed at her brother, “What are you doing here?!”

Tatsuha pulled his arm away from her hand and scowled, “I came here to tell you to butt out of my relationship with Ryuichi. What right do you and Touma have to try to keep us apart? I'm finally living my dream, and you think you can just waltz in and mess things up and I won't have anything to say about it??”

Mika put her fingers to her temple, feeling a migraine coming on. Taking a deep breath, she gave her brother a serious look. “Tatsuha, I'm only trying to protect you. I don't want you to be hurt!”

“I can protect myself, aneki, and I'm not scared of Touma.”

Mika sighed heavily, dropping her head, “You just don't get it, Tatsuha. Look, there's more to it than just protecting you from Touma's jealousy. I don't want you hurt by Sakuma-san!”

“He won't hurt me!” Tatsuha interrupted.

Mika rolled her eyes at him, “You have no idea what you're talking about. You have no idea what the real Sakuma-san is like! You think spending a weekend with him means you know him? That you're together? Have a relationship? You are a fool, Uesugi Tatsuha! Go back home to our father and your duties at the shrine, and forget about pursuing Sakuma-san. Just be happy with the time you had, and that you have a good memory of your time together.”

Tatsuha crossed his arms, glaring at his sister. “The way you say it, it's like you think Ryuichi was just using me!”

Mika looked back up at her brother, tears welling in her eyes due to the compound of the alcohol she'd been drinking and the extreme distress she'd been building up over the past few days. Barely able to do more than whisper, she said, “That's exactly what I'm saying. This is a game for Sakuma-san. He does it all the time. However strongly you feel for Sakuma-san, or however much you believe he returns your feelings, I'm telling you right now, it's not the same story for that man. Please, Tatsuha, I'm begging you, just go home! I don't want my otouto involved in this anymore!”

Through a clenched jaw, Tatsuha gritted out, “You're wrong, Mika. You don't know Ryuichi as well as you think you do. He does feel something for me, I can tell, and he said he wants to see me again! I will see him again, and there's nothing you or Touma or anyone else can do about it!” He turned to storm off, but Mika caught him by the arm again.

“Where are you going?”

Tatsuha wondered that himself. He couldn't really just show up back at Ryuichi's after just having been asked to leave, but he would need a place to stay the night, and didn't have money on him for a hotel. Eiri would be home from his book signing tour by now, and if he hadn't already, when he found out about Tatsuha borrowing the suit (and possibly about what he'd done to Shuuichi, if Shuu told on him), it probably wouldn't be a good idea to try to stay there. He would admit none of this to his older sister, however. So, turning just enough to glare at her out of the corner of his eye, he answered, “That's none of your business.”

“Tatsuha, wait,” she begged, now clutching to him as tightly as she could with both hands. “I know you won't go back home just because I told you to, but please, stay here tonight. At least let me do that much for you.”

He cocked a brow at her. “Aren't you worried what your precious husband will do to me?”

Mika's eyes went off to the side as she answered, “That person… probably won't be back tonight.”

At this comment, both eyebrows went up, and Tatsuha suddenly wondered what exactly Touma was doing at Ryuichi's. He wondered what exactly the nature of `Touma's jealousy' that Mika had mentioned was. But before he could even think about asking, Mika was dragging him back into the house and down a hallway to the guest bedroom, where she left him to go say goodbye to her guests. When she returned, Mika brought a pair of pajamas for her brother. Tatsuha helped her open up the room for him and put fresh sheets on the bed.

He was beginning to muse to himself about how long it would take for him to get used to his futon at home again, having spent so many days in a row sleeping on a mattress, when Mika suddenly turned to him and asked if he would have some coffee with her. He didn't really want to, as he was still pissed at her for fucking things up tonight, but he saw the loneliness in her eyes and he just couldn't refuse. Uesugi Tatsuha was not a heartless bastard to his sister.

They had coffee together, though Tatsuha would have preferred a bit of whatever Mika was actually drinking, because it sure as hell wasn't coffee. They didn't really talk about anything important, mostly random small talk concerning Tatsuha's life at the shrine and how their father was doing, though Mika did mention Eiri's… displeasure in finding out Tatsuha had `borrowed' his Armani suit.

As his sister started to become inebriated, though, she seemed to drift off into her own world of thought. Then she began crying out of nowhere! Tatsuha tried to find out what was wrong suddenly, but he couldn't get a straight answer out of her. She merely kept muttering, “It's all my fault. I'm so pathetic.” Before too long, his sister had passed out in a chair while crying. When he was unable to get a response from her, other than a couple sorrowful moans in her sleep, Tatsuha sighed in defeat and carried his sister to her bed.

After tucking her, still fully clothed, under her covers, he noticed her purse on the nearby table. Taking another glance at his sister to make sure she was asleep, Tatsuha picked up the purse and rummaged through it for his sister's cell phone. Looking through the numbers in her directory, he found what he was looking for: Ryuichi's phone number. He found a piece of paper and wrote it down, slipping it into his pocket and returning the phone to the purse. Then he left his sister's room for his own.

He considered for a minute calling Ryuichi right then, but decided against it. No matter how much he wanted to talk to and see the man again immediately, he didn't want to seem desperate. Seeing the pajamas on the bed, Tatsuha scoffed at them and tossed them to the floor by the door. He normally only wore boxers to bed, if he wore anything at all; but even if he actually wore pajamas to bed, he sure as hell wasn't going to wear Touma's. Instead, he stripped himself of Ryuichi's shirt and Eiri's pants, leaving just the boxers that Ryuichi had also given him that day. Then he sat down on the bed and just thought.

It had been quite the weekend, and now that the experience had come to a (temporary) end, Tatsuha felt as if he'd been suddenly steamrolled over with exhaustion. He had a million thoughts and feelings running through him, and his head was starting to pound. For now, Tatsuha decided perhaps it would be best to sleep. He could think about things with a fresh mind tomorrow.

*~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~ ~*

It had taken a bit of persuasion to get the club to let them in with Suguru. Even Shuuichi had been carded and refused entry because he wasn't yet twenty, which sent the vocalist into a loud bout of ranting. But after Hiro gagged Shuuichi, putting a quick stop to the scene the pink haired baka was beginning to make by clapping his hand over the singer's mouth, the guitarist was able to smooth talk their way inside.

They found a table in a darker area of the club, hoping not to draw too much attention to themselves and cause a riot of fans. Hiro went to order their first round of drinks, but Suguru stopped him.

“What is it, Fujisaki?” Hiro asked when the boy grabbed his arm in the middle of a crowd.

“Ano… I was just wondering… I don't have to drink… beer again… do I?”

Hiro chuckled, “Ah, didn't like the taste of it, huh?” Suguru nodded, then shook his head with a look of distaste, and Hiro smiled at him. “That's okay, it does take some getting used to. Anyway, tonight is a new lesson.”

“Oh… what is it?”

“Well, I was thinking,” Hiro began. “You still need to start slow, and despite you not liking the taste, you did really well with beer last night. So, how about we try some wine coolers for you tonight?”

“Wine cooler?”

“Yeah, it's malted like beer, and similar in alcohol content, but it'll taste a lot better to you. You like fruity drinks, right?” Hiro asked with a smile and a wink, directing Suguru back to the table with an arm across the back of his shoulders. With all the trouble it had taken to get in there, he wasn't risking the teen coming up to the bar with him.

“Y-yeah,” Suguru answered with a slight blush, remembering how easily he'd drank so much that first night, when the liquor was mixed into his fruit juice.

“Haha, don't worry,” Hiro assured, knowing full well what the boy was probably remembering. “I won't let you drink too much.” He sat Suguru back down in his chair, and turned around again to go get their drinks.

After drinking two fuzzy navels, which went down extremely easily, and which Suguru noted that he sort of liked the bubbly tickly feeling drinking them gave his nose, Shuuichi insisted that the reason to come to a club was to dance. So the pink haired boy dragged both of his band mates by the arm onto the dance floor and started to jump around to the fast music. Infused with Shuuichi's energy, Hiro couldn't help but join in, despite the music not really being the kind he preferred to move to. With more than a little encouragement from the other two, Suguru joined in as well, if rather reluctantly. After a little while, though, he was becoming more comfortable as he realized that, much to his surprise, he could actually dance! And it was fun! Feeling the energy of the music direct his body's movement was almost as thrilling as playing his own instrument on stage in front of the screaming crowd.

When the music began to slow down, the three boys returned to their table. Shuuichi kept giving Hiro meaningful looks that clearly said to the redhead, `Ask Fujisaki to dance!' Hiro simply frowned at him and left to get more drinks, returning with a beer for himself, a pina colada wine cooler for Suguru, and a strawberry Cosmo for Shuu. Shuu drank his down 2/3 of the way right away. Then he suddenly stopped, rested his chin on his hand as he looked over at Suguru, who was sipping away at his cooler.

“Oi, Fujisaki,” Shuu called to get the boy's attention away from where he was watching other people dancing. “Do you have a boyfriend?'

Both Suguru and Hiro choked on their drinks, and, coughing, Suguru sputtered out, “B-b-boyfriend?! W-what are you talking about, Shindou-san?”

Shuuichi shrugged, ignoring Hiro's glare, and replied, “Well, you said you don't want or need a girlfriend, so do you have a boyfriend? Or just like boys? In other words, what's your preference, and are you available?”

Suguru frowned at him sternly, “Why are you asking me this all of the sudden?”

“It's just a question, Fujisaki, jeez! You know, to get to know you better. Friends should know these kinds of things about each other!”

“Friends…” Suguru muttered, his eyes hazing over for a few seconds. Then he seemed to shake himself out of it, cocking a skeptical brow at the pink haired teen across from him. “You really just want to know more about me?”

Shuuichi nodded enthusiastically, slurping up the rest of his drink quickly before pushing the glass out of the way, wincing slightly from brain freeze, and leaning forward so he wouldn't miss Suguru's answer.

Suguru sighed, putting his bottle down. “Okay, if you must know… neither.”

Shuuichi gave a slow blink before voicing the first thing that popped into his head, “Huh?”

“I prefer neither. Neither sex.”

“So, you're bisexual?” the confused teen asked.

Suguru shook his head, “No. To put it even more bluntly, I'm not interested in having a romantic relationship of any kind, with a male or female. Love makes people stupid, and that's something I have entirely no interest in.”

Both Shuuichi and Hiro had their mouths hanging open now.

“So… what about sex?”

Suguru shrugged, picking his drink back up and gulping most of it down.

“Well… masturbation at least?” Shuuichi asked boldly

Suguru choked on the last bit of his drink, slamming the empty bottle down and glaring at Shuu. He had no interest in this conversation anymore.

“Don't tell me you're just going to ignore your body's basic need for sexual release! No wonder you're so uptight all the time!” At the thought of Suguru being `backed up' being the cause of the keyboardist's usual manner, Shuuichi suddenly started giggling uncontrollably. The two other Cosmos plus one fuzzy navel in his belly didn't help to control the laughter, either, and soon Suguru was walking away from the table in a huff.

Suddenly, Hiro smacked Shuu in the back of the head, admonishing, “Great going, Shuu-baka,” and got up to chase after Suguru.

“Fujisaki! Fujisaki!” He called through the crowd, but the boy just kept weaving his way through the crowd, headed towards the exit. Hiro quickened his steps, finally coming within a few large steps from the teen, and reached out to grab his arm, “Fujisaki, wait!”

Suguru struggled for a bit, but Hiro pulled him off course and towards the quiet hallways near the restrooms before the boy could get out of the club.

“Look, don't read too much into it, okay? He's already drank a lot more than either of us.”

“That's no excuse! Besides, that's not the reason, and you know it!” Suguru exclaimed. “He's always making fun of me, and you always give an excuse for why I should ignore it. Well, guess what? My sex life, or chosen lack thereof, is none of your business! I can't believe I even said anything! I must be losing my mind! You know what, I'm done. I should never have agreed to come here. No, let me rephrase that: I never should have agreed to drink with you at all! What was I thinking?! I'm getting out of here.”

Hiro stared dumbfounded after the boy that had just given a clearly alcohol-induced rant, considering how restrained his rants usually were. The dancing had probably made the alcohol move through his system more quickly. He shook himself from his musing and again chased after the boy, catching up to him this time at the coat check.

“Fujisaki, wait, just hear me out,” Hiro tried again.

Suguru, waiting for the girl to return with his jacket, gave Hiro an `I'm listening, but make it quick' look.

“You're right, I do make a lot of excuses for Shuuichi. I'm sorry that you feel I'm so unfair to you. I guess I'm so used to him that I sometimes forget how mean he could seem to people that don't know him that well. He really doesn't mean it that way, though. He just likes to joke around, and gets carried away. Look, I know it may be asking for too much, but please give him one more chance? The night was going so well. I mean, you were having fun, ne?”

Suguru looked at Hiro skeptically, but then conceded that, yes, he had been having fun. With a word of apology to the coat check girl, he returned with Hiro to the table, occupied by a now-done-laughing Shuuichi.

“Shuu,” Hiro said, getting his friend's attention, “Don't you have something to say to Fujisaki?”

Shuuichi immediately stood and, in almost Sakano-like fashion, bowed several times, pleading apologies to his youngest band mate.

Rolling his eyes at the overly dramatic singer, Suguru sat back down. “Okay, okay, Shindou-san, that's enough.”

Shuuichi sat down as well, “Okay, but I really am sorry. I didn't mean to upset you, I've just never met anyone that… well, you know…”

Suguru shrugged and sighed heavily. “It's okay, I know you didn't mean it that way,” he said with a glance at Hiro.

“Well, how `bout it, Fujisaki? You'll stay?” Hiro asked.

“Yeah, yeah, I'll stay,” Suguru said with an offhanded wave.

“Yay!” Shuuichi exclaimed, jumping to his feet and moving around to stand between Suguru and Hiro, putting his arms around the two of them. “This calls for a celebration! More drinks!” And he ran off to the bar.

“I… better… go help him…” Hiro said, slipping back out of the seat he'd just sat down in.

When they came back, Hiro was carrying a tray full of differently colored drinks, in very short glasses. There were also two more wine coolers, this time strawberry flavor. “Shuu insists the proper way to celebrate is with shots,” Hiro explained, seeing the confused look on Suguru's face, which immediately turned to apprehension. “Don't worry so much, Fujisaki!” Hiro said with a laugh. “You'll be fine if you just have one or two. The wine cooler's for a chaser, in case the liquor tastes too strong to you.”

He set the tray on the table, and he and Shuu sat down again with Suguru. He handed one wine cooler to Suguru and one to Shuuichi, then looked at the tray contemplatively. “What exactly did you get here, Shuuichi?”

Shuuichi shrugged, “I don't know. I just told the girl what colors I wanted on the tray, and to give me shots fit for celebration!! Don't you think she did a great job? The tray is really pretty.” He grinned and his band mates rolled their eyes, noticing that, indeed, the different shades of pink, blue, red, and green colored shots were quite `pretty', especially in the flashing strobes and black lights of the club. Shuu opened his wine cooler and picked up one of the pink shots, knocking it back and taking a swig of the strawberry cooler.

Suguru watched this with interest, then turned to Hiro. “You don't need a… chaser?”

Hiro shrugged, “Not really. I don't really mind the strong taste of liquor, and if I do need something, I can always steal Shuu's.”

Finishing a swig after his second pink shot, Shuu held the bottle to his chest protectively, “Oh, no you won't! Steal Fujisaki's!” He stuck his tongue out at the two of them and took another shot from the tray, this time lime green. Actually, once he tasted it, it was probably apple green.

Hiro stuck his tongue out back at him, then turned to Suguru with a friendly smile. “Well, wanna try one?” he asked, gesturing to the tray.

Tentatively, Suguru perused the different… colors… offered to him. Choosing an electric blue color, he sniffed experimentally. The smell tickled his nose, making him almost sneeze, but it wasn't unpleasant. He put it up to his mouth, and tipped it all the way back as he'd seen Shuuichi do… And promptly went into a coughing fit, face turning red. Hiro gave a little chuckle, patting his back, and handed Suguru his open wine cooler. The teen immediately took a drink.

“Alright, Fujisaki?”

Suguru peered at him through tear-blurred eyes, trying to stop his coughing, and nodded. “I just… wasn't… expecting it,” he gasped out. Then a look of realization crossed his face and he remarked, “But it didn't taste too bad.”

“Haha, well, that's good… wanna try another?”

Suguru looked skeptically at the tray and decided on a bright red one this time. This time he was somewhat prepared for what was to come, and barely coughed, though he took a long swig of his cooler afterwards.

“That was good,” Hiro complimented. “Now, you should probably stop though. After you finish that cooler I'm cutting you off for the night, okay?”

“Okay,” Suguru replied slowly, blinking at him, his belly quite warm and his head quite fuzzy suddenly.

Taking a momentary break from monitoring Suguru, Hiro chose one of the red shots. As soon as it hit his throat, his eyes teared up and he started coughing really hard, face turning redder than Suguru's had. He reached for Shuu's wine cooler, but just as he'd threatened, the pink haired boy wouldn't let him steal a drink. Suguru, however, watching with growing alarm, thrust his bottle into the guitarist's face. Hiro grabbed it and chugged, putting it down only after drinking half. He coughed a couple more times, clearing his throat before he spoke, “Thanks a lot, Fujisaki.”

“Are you okay?” the teen asked, brows knitted together in worry.

“Yeah,” Hiro assured him, then turn to look at Shuuichi, who was again laughing uncontrollably. “Damn, Shuu, I didn't expect there to be something so spicy on there!”

“Hahahahaha, gomen, Hiro, I didn't know either! But, look, you survived! This calls for another celebration! To the dance floor!!” And once again, he pulled his friends from the table.

At least an hour went by as the hyper, liquored up, pink haired boy got his friends to dance with him. A couple times, Shuu went back to the table to get another shot, but Hiro cut him off before the tray was finished. When Shuuichi began protesting, Hiro announced it was time to go. He gave the tray, still with several shots left on it, to a group at a nearby table, walking away before they noticed who he was. Then he looped his arms through the arms of both of his friends, guiding them to the coat check counter and out the door.

When they got outside, Shuuichi suddenly broke free, running ahead of them with his arms spread out like a plane. Then he just as suddenly stopped, turning around to them, and declared, “Let's do karaoke!”

“Shuu, didn't we already do that the other night?”

“But Hiiirooo,” Shuu whined, “I wanna do karaoke now!”

Hiro rolled his eyes and sighed dramatically, pretending to be put out as he said, “Oookaaaay…” Then he looked at the green haired boy still hanging to him and smiled warmly as he asked, “Is that okay, Fujisaki? Or would you rather I drop you at my house first? You look like you're about done. Did I let you drink too much? Maybe so much dancing wasn't a good idea—”

“N-Nakano-san,” Suguru interrupted, putting a hand up for the guitarist to stop rambling. “Thank you for asking, but I'm fine, see?” He let go of Hiro's arm, and stood straight, taking slow but steady steps in the direction of Shuuichi. Then he also turned to look back at Hiro. “Come on, let's go karaoke!”

Hiro chuckled to himself, watching as the pink haired boy took the green haired boy's hand and started dragging him down the sidewalk, in the direction of a nearby karaoke bar. “No drinking though!” he called after them, as Shuuichi forced Suguru into a somewhat stumbling run, eager to not waste a second getting to their destination.

Being a Sunday night, the karaoke bar wasn't too crowded, and they got to fool around with the machine as much as they wanted, going through at least twenty songs. By that time, even Shuuichi's energy was beginning to dwindle as the excessive amount of alcohol he'd ingested coursed through him, making him sleepy. Suguru was already lightly dozing between turns. Since he was only just over the line from buzzed to drunk, he behaved much better than he had the first night they'd done karaoke. In fact, he mostly tuned out the few other customers when they sang, and Hiro mentally breathed a sigh of relief that he wouldn't have to apologize for the boy this time.

However, Suguru didn't hesitate to stop Shuuichi during several songs and tell him that it sounded awful, and to take it from the top; to which Shuuichi would reply that Suguru's composition and arrangement skills were `severely lacking' in the song, `especially in the refrain', and other such comments. This served to spur laughter from the other customers, as then Suguru would point out, “I'm not the one playing the song, baka! Now sing it again!” and the two would continue their banter until Hiro went up to the stage and switched the song, yanking the mic from Shuu's hand.

Now faced with a table full of nearly-sleeping band members, Hiro decided it was definitely time to leave, but how to get them home…? It was one thing to have one sleeping passenger sandwiched on his bike, but two just wouldn't work. However, he did not like the idea of leaving his bike at the club and taking a cab. This left Hiro with only one other obvious choice, and he asked the manager to please keep an eye on his band mates while he found a quiet place to make a couple phone calls.

Fifteen minutes later, he was shoving Shuuichi into a cab, which Yuki would be waiting for when it got to his apartment. Then he and the practically-sleep-walking-Suguru made their way back to the club, and Hiro's bike. By the time they got there, though, the exercise and cold night air had revived the boy a bit, and he was not only able to walk on his own, but seemed in a rather cheerful and carefree mood. Hiro's eyes almost bugged out of his head when the green haired teen suddenly challenged him to a race to the bike, and took off immediately. Chuckling at how cute this unexpected side of Suguru was, Hiro ran after him, but the smaller boy was damn quick and was already leaning patiently against the bike by the time he got there.

“What is it with you small people and being so quick?” Hiro laughed, causing the teen to blush. Then they got on the bike and headed back to Hiro's house.

When they got inside, they shed their coats and shoes at the door, then went to the living room and collapsed on the couch. Though they'd felt quite awake on the motorcycle, with the wind whipping in their faces, now that they could relax their bodies told them how truly tired they were.

“We should probably get ready for bed,” Hiro commented from where he slouched on one end of the couch. “We do have work in the morning.”

“I know,” Suguru agreed, already practically laying down in the same spot he'd slept last time, but with his legs hooked over the front of the couch still, feet almost on the floor. “But I don't want to move.”

They stayed that way for several more minutes, until Hiro finally let out a big breath and threw himself from the couch onto his feet. He held his hand out to the sleepy Suguru and helped the other boy onto his feet as well. Then he retrieved Suguru's bag from where it had been dropped near the door, and sent the teen off to change and do whatever else he needed to ready himself for bed, such as brushing his teeth. Hiro changed in his own room, stripping himself completely, but donning a pair of pajama pants, and then he also went to the bathroom and brushed his teeth after Suguru finished.

He brought out a spare pillow and blanket for the boy, and turned to leave for his room, but paused. “Ne, Fujisaki,” he said as the boy made himself a bed on the couch.

“Hmm?” Suguru replied.

“Can I ask you something?”

“Sure, Nakano-san.”

“You know, we're friends now. You can call me Hiro.”

Suguru looked up from what he was doing to peer at him through the darkness, their eyes having long ago adjusted to it. “That… wasn't really a question.”

“I know, that wasn't my question, but I just thought of it. We've been band mates for months now, and you still address Shuuichi and I so formally. But you're our friend now, right? So you can call us more casually, you know?”

“Hiro…san?” Suguru tried experimentally.

“Heh, just Hiro, Fujisaki, just Hiro.”

“Then… I suppose… you could call me Suguru?”

Hiro grinned, “As long as that's what you want, Suguru-kun.”

Suguru blanched slightly at this, “J-just Suguru… is fine… Hiro.”

“Suguru.” Hiro nodded, “I like it.”

“So what was it you wanted to ask, Hiro?”

“Oh yeah,” Hiro said, almost forgetting his original purpose. “Well, it's none of my business, and you don't have to answer, but I was just wondering… Do you really feel as adamantly against love as you said? That it makes people stupid and all that?”

“Yes, of course. Just watching everyone around me, it's obvious everyone involved in love and relationships is either stupid or crazy… or both!” Then Suguru suddenly remembered Hiro was one of those people around him, and went to apologizing, “I mean… well, I don't think you're stupid or crazy, though. You're actually quite smart. So, you don't have to take my opinion personally against you and Usami-san, or anything.”

“Ah, don't worry about that, Suguru. That's not why I was asking. In fact, Ayaka-chan and I are no longer dating.”

Suguru felt even guiltier now. “Oh, I'm sorry. May I ask why?”

Hiro shrugged, “It just didn't work out. It's hard to make a relationship work when only one half of it is committed to it. Being second to the great Yuki Eiri-san is no easy task, you know, even if she isn't openly pursuing him anymore.”

“Ah, I'm sorry, Hiro. I brought up something uncomfortable.”

Hiro wagged his hand at Suguru, “No, no, it's alright. I'm fine. Taking a step back helped me realize I'd actually started getting over my infatuation with her anyway. We're still friends, and we're actually much better that way.”

“Oh,” Suguru replied intelligently, and wanted to smack himself for sounding so dumb.

“Well, that's all I wanted to know. Oyasumi, Suguru.”

“Oyasumi nasai… Hiro,” Suguru replied, bewildered. If Ayaka wasn't the reason he'd asked, then what was? Just another `getting to know him better' question? Pondering this, Suguru's mind did not let him fall asleep right away.

It was still dark out when Ryuichi woke from his uneasy sleep, tangled in the sheets due to much tossing and turning. A fine layer of sweat covered him, the result of both his fitful movement and his disturbing dreams. He couldn't really remember the dreams anymore; though as he lay in the dark the ghostly afterimages seemed to flash through his mind randomly, filling him with confusion and an undeniable fear of returning to that dream world. His eyes hurt, the skin around them tight and slightly crusty, due to the tears he'd continued to shed even in his sleep. It took a moment to remember why he'd been crying, but then a sigh from the sleeping Touma behind him reminded him.

When he heard the sigh, Ryu stiffened momentarily, wondering if Touma was going to wake up and want to have sex again. Ryuichi didn't think he could do it again so soon. He didn't want to. He didn't want to have sex with Touma while thinking of Tatsuha; it wasn't fair to any of them; not Touma, not Ryuichi, and definitely not Tatsuha.

Tatsuha who had no idea what kind of mess he'd been dragged into. Tatsuha who had just wanted to be with Ryuichi. Tatsuha who had wanted to go against Touma for him. Tatsuha who Ryuichi could lo—he stopped that thought right there. It would do no good to think about things like that. Tatsuha was gone and Ryuichi was with Touma again.

Touma who was always there for him. Touma who always took care of him. Touma who always cleaned up Ryu's messes. Touma who Ryuichi used to lo— `No,' he reprimanded himself silently, turning into the pillow as he shook his head no. `I still do. I love Touma. Of course I do.' He felt Touma stirring behind him and deftly shifted out of reach of his arm, searching for Ryu in his sleep. Then Ryu gave a soft self-deprecating snort. He still loved him, of course; he just didn't want to be touched by him.

Ryuichi took the pillow out from under his head and carefully placed it between himself and Touma. Touma's arm immediately wrapped around it, sighing in contentment before falling back into a deeper sleep. Ryuichi wished he could sleep so easily. He felt really drained.

“Kuma?” he whispered into the darkness, needing the comfort his plushie friend would surely bring him. But there was no reply, and he didn't see him in the room. So, slowly, carefully, Ryuichi left the bed and headed out to the living room to look for the rabbit, ignoring the slight pain the movement caused; and the dried stickiness between his legs.

“There you are, Kuma-chan!” he exclaimed softly, finding the pink rabbit waiting patiently for him on the couch. Ryu picked him up and cuddled him to his bare chest, nuzzling his cheek atop Kuma's head. “You can't sleep?” he asked, pulling back to look into the shining black eyes. “Ryu-chan can't sleep, either.” He held the bunny in the crook of his arm and went over to stand by the window, looking down on the lights of the city, still bustling below despite it being the middle of the night, or early morning depending how you looked at it. For awhile he just stood there, nude body bathed in moonlight and the glow of the city, until…

(You did it again.) The voice he usually liked to imagine as Kuma's spoke in his mind. (You let him use you again.)

Ryuichi's eyes grew a bit wide. “No! No, I was me this time! I was the one Touma wanted, not him! I'm the one that used Touma this time…”

Ryu turned the bunny back up towards his face, and the cold black eyes seemed to glare back at him chastisingly. (It's not the same and you know it. You didn't go looking for Touma to replace Tatsuha.)

Ryuichi shook his head hard. “No, but I still shouldn't have been thinking about Ta-kun when I was with Touma…”

(Personally, I'm glad you did. That bastard doesn't deserve your love. In fact, you should drop Touma right now and go for Tatsuha instead. You were happy with him.)

Ryuichi sighed, putting a hand to the window and leaning his forehead beside it on the cold glass. “I know… I know I was… but I'm an awful person. I don't deserve to be that happy.”

(You deserve more than you know.)

Silence reigned again for several minutes. Then Ryuichi spoke aloud again. “I need a shower.” Kumagorou accompanied him to the bathroom, taking up his usual perch on a metal shelf hanging above the towel rod right outside the shower. Slowly and carefully, Ryuichi washed his sore body. The warm water felt good and helped relax him. He hissed a little while cleaning certain areas, feeling regret on two ends of the spectrum again—regret with longing, and regret with loathing—as he remembered both of the men who had caused the soreness; only one of whom he wanted to remember, though he knew he should forget.

(You won't erase either of them just by washing, you know.) That voice remarked sardonically. (Besides, the one you really want to wash away will just put his filthy paws all over you again as soon as he wakes up. And you'll let him.)

Ryuichi paused what he was doing. “Ne, Kumagorou…”

The bunny silently waited for him to continue. “Sometimes I'm glad you can't really talk. You can be really cruel.”

The bunny said no more.

Not even a minute later, the shower door opened, and Ryuichi tried not to show the scared shock on his face as a naked Touma stepped inside. The blonde smiled as he came up behind Ryuichi and put his arms around him, placing kisses along the column of the singer's neck. “I thought I heard you in here,” he said between kisses. “You worried me when I woke up and you weren't there.” His hands started traveling downwards, and Ryuichi gave a start, pushing Touma away from him. Trying to cover his current disgust, both with himself and with Touma, Ryuichi turned and smiled sheepishly, “I'm… kind of sore, Touma.”

Touma's eyes shone with a strange spark as he stepped towards Ryu again and purred out, “Hmm, I wonder who's to blame for that…” His fingers stroked along the soft skin of Ryu's flaccid cock, trying to bring it to life for him, but Ryuichi reflexively knocked Touma's hand away, pulling away from him. Touma gave him a weird look.

Ryuichi knew Touma's temper was bubbling near the surface due to his extended absence, and that he was walking a fine line of it with the keyboardist right now. So, to try to distract the blonde from getting angry, Ryu closed his eyes and smiled cheerfully, “Gomen, na, Touma. The warm shower made Ryu-chan sleepy sleepy, na no da.” He made a show of yawning, and found that it really wasn't fake. Touma looked disappointed but placated as Ryuichi finished rinsing the soap off his body and exited the shower. Touma followed close behind, joining Ryu in the bed again.

Ryuichi tried to relax again and go to sleep, but with Touma's arms around him once again he found he just couldn't. He pretended to go to sleep, though, so that Touma wouldn't try to start anything more. He had even put on a pair of pajama pants and a t-shirt prior to getting into bed, despite the fact that he usually slept in the nude, just to deter any advances the keyboardist would make. Ryuichi tried to mimic the breathing rhythm Touma usually kept while sleeping, and Touma easily fell back to sleep listening to it.

With Touma asleep, Ryuichi was able to relax a little more, and finally dozed off several minutes later, clutching Kumagorou. However, it turned out to merely be a catnap as he woke up a mere hour later, a little before 4am. Sighing tiredly, Ryuichi again left the bed, making sure to fill his place with his pillow and by bunching up the blankets. Then he quietly and quickly dressed in jeans and a t-shirt, grabbed Kumagorou, his shoes, and a jacket, and left the house. Maybe a walk would do him some good.

A/N: Woot, another chapter within a week! I rock, go me! *happy dance* Uhhh, yeah, aaaanyway… I noticed that my chapter size has gone from an average of 10 to an average of 18 pages lately -_-;; , but I guess you guys aren't complaining, nya? :p I actually had a lot more written for Ryuichi, that I thought would fit into this chapter, but then when I finally wrote the scenes for the BL guys (it took me awhile to write, because I was so in an angsty-writing mood and couldn't get into the HiroSuguru-ness), I decided it'd be better to cut the chapter off here, and put the other stuff (hopefully) into the next chapter… Well, at least most of it will probably go in… we'll see… because of my angsty-writing mood I wrote one of the major scenes I've been planning for near the end already. If you read into that correctly, it means that, yes, DA is coming to a close (finally!!). But don't fret, there's still at least two more chapters, possibly four(and hopefully no more than that! I really need to work on my other fics that I've been neglecting! *sob*). It depends how long all the explosive scenes I have planned end up being, and if any I didn't plan somehow sneak their way in (as they tend to do).

Oh, btw, in case anyone wonders: Yes, that restaurant name is Zenny's; the anime-bastardized version of Denny's! XD gotta love it, dude, gotta love it!

Japanese:

Aneki: (honored) older sister (much as aniki is for older brother)
Otouto: little brother
Oyasumi/Oyasumi nasai: goodnight (nasai adds more politeness)

..hopefully that's all I needed to translate… I can't remember and don't feel like looking again :p

Total for all: 132

Wow, look how close DA is to catching up to UA!! And UA has 18 chaptersalready!!! If I get 7 more reviews on gurabi for DA, it will take the slot for most reviews on one site!! 18 more reviews altogether and it'll beat out the total for all sites!! Interesting fact: I got a total of 7 reviews for the last chapter already; 8 in total. That means, in all likelihood, DA will break the one site review total record with this chapter!! I want to do something special, like write a fic for the lucky 7th person… but then I don't know if I should say that because I have sooo many other projects I should be working on instead. :p then I thought, maybe fanart, but I'm still not happy enough with my work to give it as a “gift” yet (Oh My Tezuka, I really suck at bodies still.. particularly limbs..), plus it'd only be in pencil (as my main media is on paper still, and I'm lacking good pens…) like this:
http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y50/ladygizarme/My%20Sketc hes/?action=view&current=nurseshu2.jpg (see how badly I suck?? *cries*) but, uh… lucky 7th person, if you show up and have an idea for what your gift should be (something internet do-able, obviously), let me know and I'll see what I can do. ^_~

Review Replies:

Chihiro1985: Indeed, Touma is quite fucked up ..but I still love that stupid asshole XD

sakuma_sonnet: I'm glad you liked the angst, cuz there's more comin', let me assure you! And as for Ryu not coming to his senses in the middle of sex… I considered it, but then all the other stuff I wanted to have happen wouldn't have fit quite as well. I probably could've made it work but… honestly… maybe I just wanted to write ToumaRyu >:D

Michelle: Oh my, Gravitation, better without Touma?? *gasp* Nooonononono… well that's my opinion at least. :p I love the evil he infuses into it. XD And he's so pretty!! *pets* *ahem* but, yeah, that's okay lol, hate away at him!! He totally deserves it :p Glad you love the story and the pairings!! Hope this up'd was quick enough for ya!!

Lamia: The drama got to ya, did it? Then there should be a wild ride ahead of you with the next couple chaps! Heheheheh >:D Glad you liked Touma getting a ticket. I hoped that would at least make up a little for not killing him in some horrific car crash lol.. As for having a more cunning Ryuichi… hmm, I'm not sure if I'd describe it as cunning, but he'll soon become less of a pushover I suppose you could say… as much as I want to keep everyone in character, I also need to fit those characters into the situations I want them in… I'd say more to explain where his attitude in this is coming from, but I think I'll just let you read it… eventually… :p

rinaiki: Yay for new reviewers!! *glomp* Ahhh, the Touma-hate abounds! *basks in Touma-hate* As for Mika, I hope I explained a little better in this chapter where she's coming from. It's not that she doesn't want Tats to be happy, she just doesn't think Ryuichi can make him happy. At least not on a long-term basis, which she knows is what Tatsuha wants. I'm sorry I made you sad with the practical-rape-of-Ryu; he was a willing participant, just that his heart wasn't in it *sniffle* As for the Yuki room… I'm going to try to explain a bit more about that in upcoming chapter(s), but if I don't do a good enough job, I'll explain in future author's notes.

hirokine: Woot! Another new reviewer!! *double glomp* Up front, I just want to say: Yay! Someone that still loves Touma even though he's evil!! *happy dance together, yay!* Glad you love the pairings and the smut! Hope you keep enjoying it!

Jules: What's this? Another new reviewer?? *triple glomp!* Damn, I'm on a roll, nya!! Glad you're enjoying the story… sucker for happy endings?? (psst: I am too!)

Houseki: It's about damn time, woman! Tezzie damn, I thought you wouldn't read it for another month lol!! Glad to finally have your official beta stamp on Ch. 12 and Distraction!! And look, tons of the BL boys like you wanted! Hope it's enough for now, cuz I'm not sure if there'll be time for them to show up next chap… we'll see how things pan out when I put all the pieces I have written together with what I haven't written yet :p For all your other comments… *squeeee* why do you have such a way of making me want to tell you my secrets?? Tezuka Ryoma and Fuji!! It's hard for me to keep my own secrets!! Hard, but I still keep them (so far) :p

Ren: Yay, you finally got to read it too!! I know just what you mean about switching from PoT back to Gravi… and dude, I know just how hard it is to pull yourself away from that particular fic too!! Learning to Land is like the best sequel ever to the best PoT fic ever, Learning to Fall, and it's sooooo damn long!! The Never-ending Story is certainly the perfect subtitle for it, and I don't want it to end either!! :p believe me, I know how hard it is to stop reading it XD But I'm glad you did, to read my new chap!!! You know I do the same for you!! *hinthint* ^__~ *ahem* but on to my actual reply… I know you love twisted Gravi charas, I do too!! Heheheheh, and, yes, Hiro and Suguru are so freakin' cute… oh my, I'm trying not to make it sickening :p but, uh… Ryu havin' Yuki suits… well you may not think it's so cute later… but I guess we'll hafta wait for the verdict on that :p

Oh yeah, and on a final note, I still love the infusion of Yuki and Ed into the PoTized sign-off dude. Love it nyaaaa!!!!

To All my Reviewers: Arigatou Gozaimasu!! *glomps, huggles, and pocky all around!!*

P.S. On a final random note, I want to share with you guys my current desktop wallpaper (why? …IDK… cuz it's hot and I want to share the hotness!? Who cares why?!! It's Ryuuuuu!!! *drool*)
