Chapter 15 - Unwanted Mission and Unexpected Protector

Nigenkai

" Calm down Heero!" Sally exclaimed as she tried to soothe the young boy. She'd come out of surgery to find that Seiji had been admitted into the Mental Recovery Ward for Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome in its severest form. Her colleague, Aria Baker, had been forced to after the blonde had a flashback from his years spent in captivity. It had shocked her when Quatre had described to her how he had suddenly regressed into a small child mentality from the overload of emotions trapped within his inner walls. He also explained to her how unhealthy it was for empaths when they are unable to release said emotions they had picked up from others.

Now the blonde was lying unconscious, sedated heavily, and his brunette brother was stalking back and forth with his hands clenching and unclenching from fists. She knew that he was unsure as of what to do to help his brother and it left him in a terribly uneasy state. He wasn't used to not knowing what to do about things and being trapped in said situation was eating him alive.

" Heero, you have to calm down so we can help Seiji," she told him. " I sent Duo home because both of you are too emotional right now." Funny thing, saying Heero Yuy was too emotional.

" He shouldn't be sedated as if he were mentally unstable," the ex-pilot pointed out, not even turning to look at her.

" He IS mentally unstable!" she countered. " You heard Quatre as well as I did, his mind is in turmoil. He hasn't had time to adjust, to heal, or even talked to a counselor about what he went through. He is trying to forget over ten years in less than a half a month and it's costing him."

" What do we do to help him?" Heero asked. He didn't like this. He HATED being so helpless while his brother was suffering.

" I have to know what happened," she said. " What did J do to you two while you were with him? Unless I know what I'm up against I can't really do anything."

The brunette stared at her in near shock. Tell her? How was he supposed to just tell her what he and Seiji had been subjected to during their young childhoods into early adolescence? It wasn't so simple as to do just that. He would have to go through the memories that he had locked away during and after the war, the ones he never wanted to visit again. The scars were still there, still stinging every now and then to prove their existence. He didn't think he could explain anything to her without closing off almost all of his emotions as he had done just ten months before during their fight against Marie-Meia.

" Heero?" Sally gave him a curious look.

" I cannot tell you, he would not want you to know," he answered. " He doesn't want anyone to know."

" What?" she stared at him. " This isn't some game, Yuy! I can't fight an uphill battle!" She could see the resolve in his eyes and in the very way he stood. He wasn't going to tell her. I didn't really expect him to, she sighed. " But you were there together, weren't you?" she questioned, not remembering if Wufei had said if they were or not. " You both were trained the same way, right?"

" I was trained for battle, for war, as was he," he agreed. " But he was also trained because of his abilities, ones I don't have. We were separated when I was almost ten. I don't know what training he went through during the time afterwards."

" Well, how did you put it all behind you?" she finally asked. " How did you let go?" Once again he was silent and she was confused for a moment. But then it was quite obvious as to why it seemed hard for him to speak of the things he and Seiji endured. Heero hadn't let it go. He hadn't put it all behind him, not yet anyway. He had seemed to have been healing, but in truth he was only hiding from what he was not ready to face, his past.

" Oh Heero…" she murmured. He was about to speak, about to tell her that it was none of her business, but something stopped him. He felt a strange sense of warning and apprehension in his chest. Something was going to happen and he didn't think it was going to be a good thing. That's when the undeniable sound of metal crashing to the floor rang out throughout the halls.

Outside - Ten minutes before

They found themselves in front of a large gray stone building in the middle of a busy street. Kayura looked around her in surprise at the large crowds of people that were walking about. She'd never seen so many in one place, let alone so up close. To their luck, Rajura had spun an illusion to keep them from sight upon entering the Nigenkai and they could go unnoticed about the moving masses.

" The boys are here," Yami Masho pointed out immediately. " I can sense Korin's broken bound with the yoroi. It seems to lead back to past where I first encountered him, his brother, and the other two."

" Then go," Rajura told him. " Kayura can capture the brother and I shall go get Korin." He closed his eyes and tried to sense the blonde in hopes of making his search easier, but didn't get quite what he expected. Pain, confusion, chaos, and fear struck him head on, forcing him back into his own mind. He faltered for a moment, the illusion around them almost slipping, but quickly caught himself.

" What happened?" Anubis asked him, concern in his voice.

Rajura shook his head for a moment to clear it. " Korin is in pain," he replied. " Something has happened to him that is causing him to be in great agony. I believe it is what Arago meant by him being weak and vulnerable."

" Has he not suffered enough?" Kayura wore a look of sadness and sympathy.

" It could be because his power if trying to release itself," Anubis suggested. " We need to bring him back to the Youjakai so that you can help him 'Jura." He closed him eyes and concentrated, his power slowly reaching out to connect with the broken energy pattern of Korin no Yoroi. He could feel it, the light that was his armor's direct opposition and yet pulled him to it at the same time. They were counterparts that would forever attract each other like the ends of two magnets.

" You go ahead and get the yoroi," Kayura told him. " We shall find a way to help Korin before we return. Come back here when you are done."

" Since when do you order me around?" he raised a eyebrow at her.

" Since we started wasting time," she replied. " 'Master' Arago will not like us being late. He's quite anxious to have these two."

" All right, all right," he waved her off, but then took a whiff of the air, his eyes cutting into slits for a moment. " Be careful you two, something familiar seems to be around here." And then he was gone in a whiff of smoke, following the trances to his intended target. That left only the two outside the building.

" Now where do you think the boys are?" Kayura looked to her oldest brother. But she noticed he wasn't even paying attention to her. His eyes were on two third floor windows somewhere towards the left. The curtains were closed, unlike the rest of the room on the floor it seemed, but one of the windows was open, also unlike the rest of the floor.

" I feel the power coming from over there," he pointed towards the left in the same direction as said room. " And that room seems to the only one of that floor inhabited. I believe he is there."

" Good for you," she said. " Now I have to find the other the old fashion way."

" Korin's 'Nii-chan' will indeed probably be close to his brother so start from there," the white-haired man suggested. " Now let's go." He jumped into the air and she followed, both making quick work of the height and distance to the window. He stood gracefully on the windowsill and then jumped into the room, his feet landing without a sound. Kayura did the same with no difficulties whatsoever. It seemed like no matter that the window was only two feet tall and two feet wide.

Rajura felt the pain slightly more solidified and turn his head. He could hear the sound of faint whimpering and turned towards what looked to be a diving curtain to one side of the room. Moving towards flimsy partition, he extended his hand, but then stopped. He turned towards Kayura, " Hurry, get to searching."

" Okay," she agreed and moved towards what appeared to be door of the room. Rajura turned back to the curtain and moved it to the side. To his shock and dismay he found the blonde, Korin, to indeed be there, strapped by his hands and ankles to the bed. He was twisting his head this way and that, a small distressed whimpering noise escaping his throat every few seconds even though he was indeed unconscious. The white-haired warlord couldn't believe that they had restrained the blonde the way they had.

" How could they do this to him?" Kayura wondered out loud as she stared at him.

" I'll calm him and then free him from his binds, you find the brother," he stepped closer until he was right beside the bed.

Kayura turned back to the indented outline that she believed to be the door, but could find no knob or handle to open it with. Just great, she sighed. Guess I'll have to make my own away out. Pulling out her weapon of choice, Sais, she raised them up and sliced through the steel entrance with ease. Slicing in the opposite direction, she smiled when the door broke apart in four different pieces and fell to the floor, causing a crash that echoed throughout the room and outer halls.

" Gods, Kay, could you be any less subtle?" Rajura glared at her, but took noticed that the boy on the bed didn't even seem to have heard it at all. He reached out to touch the blonde's sweat-soaked brow but the shouts from the corridor halted him.

" What was that?!"

" Oh my Gods, the door!!"

" Somebody get officers from the next floor!"

" Who would do this?!"

" Isn't there someone in that room?!"

Kayura frowned from just inside the door. " Nigen are so loud when they curious or surprised, especially when they're both," she sighed.

" Who are you?! What are you doing in there?" she looked to see a black-haired boy staring at her with a glare in his nearly black eyes. He was standing at the front of a small crowd of orderlies and such that had gathered to see what was the cause of all the commotion.

" Just collecting some people that my master wants to meet," she replied flippantly. " Nothing of your concern."

He immediately pulled a gun from his pocket and aimed it at her. " It IS my business," he told her. " Now drop your weapons and step away from the doorway and into the hall."

" What kind a little thing is that?" she asked with a laugh of disbelief in her voice. " Do you think that such a weak weapon can harm me? You're terribly mistaken."

" I said to get away from that room," he restated. " I don't like to repeat myself."

" We don't have time for this!" Rajura shouted her. " Just find the boy, 'Nii-chan'."

" Fine," she agreed and then looked back at the boy that had challenged her. " Gomen, but I can't play right now. I have a job to do."

Rajura stared down at the shaking blonde and reached out top touch him again. He brushed the stray locks of hair from in front of his face that had been matted down by sweat and rested his hand on his brow. He was shocked to feel the sense of ache that trying to reach to boy's mind brought. He has too much locked within his mind, he realized. It has to be what is causing his state of shock. I'll have to release some of the tension or he'll be no use to us, or anyone for that matter.

He closed his eyes and called upon the power of his yoroi, using it to find his way through the maze that was the boy's mind. He found himself standing on the one side of a wall with no ways of entry. How does he release the built up energy? He wondered. Figuring that there must not have been a way to enter the boy's blocked mind, he extended his hand to the wall and decided to create one. It won't be too difficult for someone like myself.

He touched the wall and was surprised to feel it bend instantly under the contact. Nani? He didn't understand. Why would it open up to me? The brick-like mental barrier started to crumble and then fell away completely, leaving a human-sized hole in its place. Rajura knew then that something was indeed wrong with the situation, but before he could do anything he was assaulted with memories and emotions that were on the verge of overwhelming him.

He could see life through the blonde's eyes, feel his depression from the sickness he suffered as a child, see the murder of the orphanage manager, and feel the pain from the first three days of experiments that the Doctor J had performed on him. He could even feel the agony of his first 'secession' and all the ones afterwards. He felt the sense of emptiness from being locked alone in darkness for so long until he was rescued by a black-haired boy and blonde woman. He could also feel the sense of betrayal from when he'd believed that his brother had abandoned him and the uncertain emotion of when he was reunited with 'Nii-chan', who he know knew was also called Heero.

It was all there, every emotion He had felt as a child until now and even the ones he had felt from others. Rajura could feel the sense of protection that He had always felt from his brother, the want from the white-haired and metal-clawed doctor that was mostly directed at Heero, and then there was the man Anold. Rajura could feel the blonde's immense fear of the man and the man's own desire and lust for the boy. He seemed to have taken it upon himself to hurt the boy just because he thought of him as some treasure to partake of religiously.

Gods, what kind of people have he and his brother lived with for most their lives?! It was shocking really, how many cruel, deplorable, and perverted Nigen could be together, left alone with two small boys who could do nothing against them. But as he felt all of the emotions, he could feel the blonde's own pain easing. It was just as he had thought, the need to release the overload of emotions and memories he'd collected over time had been fulfilled he seemed to be slipping into a finally peaceful oblivion.

Satisfied that he had done what he could to help the blonde at the time, Rajura pulled from his mind and began to unstrap the boy from his binds only to be confronted with a growling sound. He turned his head and could see two dark glowing red eyes that were glaring at him from the dark corner of the room. He knew it shouldn't have been so hard to see the creature that lurked there seeing as it was still daylight, but it was as if the beast or whatever it was knew how to pull in the shadows much like a brother of his own could. But he what he definitely wasn't prepared for the beast to leap from the shadows and attack him.

" I don't care, you're not going to do anything," the black-haired boy stated.

" You can't stop me," Kayura teased. " I am way too strong for you with such a puny weapon of choice."

" Wufei!" a feminine voice yelled from down the hall. Kayura turned her eyes immediately, not truly taking her attention off of the boy, to see a blonde woman running towards them with the exact person she was there to retrieve. " Well, this makes things a whole lot easier."

" What?" Wufei stared at her, but she seemed to have lost interest in him. Her eyes were trained on Sally, or more or less the person behind Sally, Heero. Her happy expression transformed into a smirk and she stepped over the rubble that she had created with her weapons.

" You are Nii-chan are you not?" she directed her question to the brunette. His eyes widened as he stopped in his tracks. Wufei was confused as well for he knew that Seiji was the only one to call him that.

" What have you done to my brother?" Heero demanded to know, a cold glare setting in his eyes.

" Why, I've done nothing to him," she stated. " I wouldn't dream of hurting him. My Master just wishes to meet with the two of you."

" What does that mean?" Sally asked as she aimed her own gun at the blue-haired girl who looked to be only nineteen or so at the most. " Who is your 'Master'?"

" The one that shall rule this world very soon," she acted as if it was the most known thing in the universe, even though she herself wanted to wash out her mouth after saying it. " Now, my brother has already gotten Korin, all we need is you."

" Who is Korin, and where is my brother?!" Heero was becoming irate with worry and confusion. Just who the hell was this woman and why was she after him and Seiji?

" Why he is of course and he's right in here with my brother," she said. " And if you'll come with us no harm shall come to any of the Nigen that are here."

" Leave Seiji alone!" Heero growled at her, pulling his own gun from his pocket.

" I thought I already told you that those things won't work on me," she sighed. " I guess I'll have to show you then." She raised her blades and looked as if she was about to attack. Wufei wasn't about to take the chance and quickly fired at her. To his shock, the bullet seemed to deflect itself into the wall when it came within mere inches of the girl's head. She turned and gave him an exasperated look.

" See, I told you," she seemed now irritated with him. " I may not have yoroi like my brothers, but I do have my own protection. And I don't have time for this."

Wufei could hear the shock and disbelief coming from the people behind him and turned his glare in their direction. " Get out of here!" he yelled. " It's not safe and you could be killed!" The people looked at him, but quickly listened by running away, some shouting in fear of the mysterious woman.

" You don't need to yell at the weak Nigen," she admonished him playfully. " They're just leading themselves to the slaughter."

" Why you're-" Before Sally could finished they were interrupted by a loud roar coming from the room.

Kayura turned around immediately to find that Rajura had been tackled to the ground by a very familiar black and gray creature. It was a feline and was a dark, dark gray/black color with even darker black stripes like that of a tiger. She instantly knew who the creature was. " Oh my Gods…" she whispered. " Kokuen-oh!"

Sally saw this as the perfect chance and lunged at the 'deranged' girl, catching her off guard and knocking her to the ground. Kayura stared at her in shock, but hadn't lost the grip on her sais. Heero quickly rushed by them and into the room, Wufei following after him.

" No one has ever knocked me down before whether off guard or not, save my brothers," Kayura stated. " You are very brave if you thought you could have won against me." With that she kicked Sally off of her using her legs as leverage. She knew she hadn't used her real force because the woman had only been knocked back into a wall. Sally felt her head crack against the steel wall and she slid to the floor, her eyes blurred in pain.

" You're strong in spirit," Kayura told her. " I admire that." But then she was gone in a whiff of smoke, leaving Sally to stare at her former position in shock..

Heero rushed into his brother's room and found a man in strange lavender-colored armor with horns on his helmet wrestling on the ground with a large black feline. If he hadn't known better he would have said it looked like a tiger, but it was black and gray so it was impossible. He watched as the man threw the beast off of him and then jumped back to his feet with a glare in his eyes.

" You! How could you be here?!" Rajura shouted at the creature, knowing he wouldn't get an answer. Unlike Anubis, he couldn't speak to the tiger or his brother. The tiger merely growled at him again before lunging at him, knocking them both straight through the reinforced stone wall and into the air. Large pieces of the building fell around them and the white-haired man could hear the people below screaming. He knew they were no doubt running to avoid being injured by the heavy stone blocks.

He jumped away from the tiger and landed on a light post that had just been beginning to light up. Kokuen-oh landed on a car a few yards away, still growling at him. " Wretched beast, you're ruining everything!" Rajura was far beyond being angry. How had Byakuen twin brother come to the Nigenkai when his master, the one he chose to follow after Anubis, was a demon lord of the Youjakai? And why had he decided to attack him?

" 'Jura!" Kayura shouted out when she appeared in the room just as her brother was forced through the wall by the force of his opponent. How had the tiger known they would be there? How had he even managed to even come to the Nigenkai? Realizing that her brother was too busy to complete their mission, she turned her attention to the two boys in the room. 'Nii-chan' was by his brother's bedside while still staring at the whole Rajura and Kokuen-oh had created. She could tell that he was shocked even if it wasn't plain on his features. With the other boy, Wufei, it was obvious he wanted an explanation.

" Who are you people?" he stared at her. " What kind of demons are you?"

" Demons? Us?" Kayura blinked for a moment. " We aren't demons. We're just as human as…well, maybe not as human as you." She gestured towards Wufei before turning to Heero. " But you and your brother are different. My Master wishes for your presence and he will have it." The brunette immediately moved back so he was closer to the peacefully sleeping blonde on the bed. Kayura could tell that all of the distress that she'd seen on his face earlier was gone and knew that Rajura had something to do with it.

" What does your 'Master' want with us?" Heero demanded to know.

" Oh, you'll see when we get back there," she replied and lunged at him. He instantly, reflexively, jumped out of the way. Kayura landed on the opposite side of the bed and Heero turned around only to see the blue-haired girl staring at his brother intently.

" Get away from him!" Wufei yelled and pulled his gun out once again.

" You already know that won't work," she laughed.

Heero made to move towards her and he found that he was frozen, unable to even twitch his fingers. He heard a gasped growl of anger and knew that Wufei was in the same predicament. " What have you done to us?!" he snarled.

" Just one of my many 'gifts'," she replied as she slid her hands beneath the white linen sheets and lifted Seiji from the bed. His tired form was pliable in her arms and she couldn't help but smile at his peaceful expression. It seemed strange for such a look to be on his face after all of the atrocities that she had seen him endure.

" Let go of him!" Heero yelled, trying his hardest to break free of the mysterious hold she held over him and Wufei. This wasn't happening. He wasn't losing his brother for a second time. The Gods weren't so unfair that they would do this.

" Do not fear," she told the brunette. " He shall be well cared for, as will you. You shall be safe and no one shall do harm to you ever. No one will ever touch you again."

Heero's eyes stared at her in shock. Does she know anything about what she's talking about? To his dismay, the look in her eyes said she did. Gods, who is she?! How does she know about what happened? Where did she come from and how can she hold me like this? What is going on?! He could only watch as she walked towards the large man-made entrance and looked down.

Kayura watched as Kokuen-oh and Rajura fought, the Illusion master actually having to work against the immense feline. But then again, both the tiger and his brothers were nothing if not formidable opponents in battle. But I have a trump card, she thought. Maybe now he'll back off and allow us to leave. She gave a glance back at the face of 'Nii-chan' and could see the fear in his eyes. She made sure her spell was in tightly held and then jumped, falling gracefully down to the battlefield below.

On the Street

Rajura felt it in his mind when Kayura placed the spell on the two boys in the room. Luckily, it didn't detour his concentration from his fight against Kokuen-oh. The beast seemed enraged by something and continued to fight with great determination. He seems to be protecting the two boys, Rajura concluded. But why would he be here, protecting Korin and his brother instead of in the Youjakai? He noticed when the black tiger jumped away from him and turned his head toward the building that Kayura and their two targets were in. He looked up and could see Kayura standing in the hole they'd created, Korin held in her strong yet gentle grasp.

She stared down at them before jumping from the room and down to the street that littered with rubble and other things left in the Nigens' dash for safety. Kokuen-oh growled at her and jumped from the top of the car so that he was only mere yards away from her. " Stay back beast," she warned him. " You wouldn't want harm to come to the boy, would you?" Rajura knew that Kayura was bluffing, but after acting for Arago's benefit for centuries, it was hard to tell.

Kayura hated sounded to callous towards the black feline. She'd been raised at the same time as he and his brother and could clearly remember when they would play in the magical fields of the other Realm together. She could tell that he actually believed her threat and back down, in stance still stiff with tension. She smirked for appearances and looked down at Seiji. He was still unconscious. Bu what she didn't notice was the faint flicker of a green symbol on his brow that disappeared as quickly as it had come.

A/N: How was that yall? Ooh, a little bit of a cliffhanger there for ya.

JC: Do yall like that we gave Kokuen-oh a bigger part? We really how they downplay him in the show and most other fics.

Kathrine: But why is he there? Where are the others? What about Duo with Anubis going to get the orb?

JC: You KNOW we can't answer these questions now! They have to wait until the next chapter!

Kathrine: But they won't get the one answer for like ten more chapters or something! I wanna tell them about… (JC beats her upside the head with the long lost BUBB. Kathrine slumps over the computer unconscious and JC pushes her to the floor so she can finish the Author's Note.)

JC: Hehe… Please review and we'll try to update a little faster.
